Ah, Cupcakin' Bake Shop, you've got me by the short hairs. Especially now that we're SIP, I've been ordering at least once a week. At least. These cupcakes are superb, second to none. Came here yesterday, and I tried the mini red velvet and carrot cake cupcake..OMG amazing! I am not big on red velvet, but these were good. They were not too sweet, moist, and had the right amount of flavor and not too sweet. I was going to buy a dozen and said I would come back in a few hours. Ugh! Bad move on my part. They were pretty much sold out l. However, I did buy 2 chocolate with vanilla frosting cupcakes. I can't wait to try them. I gave this place a 4 star instead of 5, not for the flavor, but for the customer service. The customer service was okay. Flavor 9/10 - strawberry one is made with real strawberries, but I would have liked more strawberry flavor Texture 10/10 - some of the most tender, moist cupcakes I've ever had Sweetness 9/10 - I don't like super sweet frosting. I found the cream cheese frosting on the strawberry cupcake to be a bit too sweet, but I loved the whipped cream frosting on the other flavors. I have been on the hunt for the best cupcake in Oakland and Cupcakin Bake Shop was the last spot on my "must try" list. (Angel Cakes won hands down, James & The Giant Cupcake Jack London came in second, if you're wondering. I didn't review the ones that did poorly because they're small business owners and well, karma.) First off, I didn't go to the shop, I got them via DoorDash from the Old Oakland location so my review is strictly for the cupcakes. A note on DoorDash - it's $8 and change for TWO cupcakes, I didn't realize that at first, thought it was $8 for 1, so it took me a few weeks until I was having a major cupcake craving and didn't care about the price to order from there. Now, I'm a basic betch when it comes to dessert, so I ordered the funfetti cupcakes (vanilla on vanilla with sprinkles baked in and on top). The packaging was perfect, super thoughtful making sure the cupcakes were spaced out enough that they didn't touch and even finger holes so you could lift the cupcakes out without messing up its presentation. I'm pretty sure the cupcakes were still a little warm when they arrived, that's how fresh they were. The frosting to cake ratio was perfect (if you're not a big frosting person, it may be a bit much, but whatever, you can always take some off) and there wasn't an overwhelming amount of sprinkles, which is nice if you're big on texture. The cake itself was good and moist. I like to refrigerate my cupcakes and these stuck to the paper and crumbled a bit after a couple hours in the fridge. I would order from here again if my faves were closed, but not my first choice. That said, they are the best place I've found on DoorDash so if you're feeling lazy, I'd say this is your best delivery option. read more

During October and November they had a cranberry flavored cupcakes with a vanilla frosting, which was thick an creamy. It was super moist inside and the texture of the almonds and softness of the baked carrots inside was perfect.
