Had a good experience. The atmosphere was great. Waitresses dressed up in Mexican attire. Food was great, margarita was perfect!

The environment was pleasant and clean, and the staff was all super nice. When you're seated they give you chips and two salsas. Later they come by with fresh tortillas and butter. The chips and tortillas were great; the salsa in the black bowl was good. The main entrees, however, were entirely mediocre. I ordered barbacoa tacos, as they're only served on the weekends. The meat itself was tender, but the actual taste was lackluster. The rice and refried beans were incredibly bland, and honestly tasted like the tap water. Some other guests in our party ordered the nachos, and they were okay. After many years of searching I have found my holy grail of huevos rancheros!!! The eggs were cooked perfectly and the sauce/onions on top were line none I have ever had! As soon as you are seated you are welcomed with a green and a red salsa, chips, and homemade flour tortillas with butter. Customer service is excellent! Can't wait to explore the menu further. The sodas were in cans the waitress was horrible we waited about 20 minutes for a straw and silverware and when we finally got out food it was disgusting. Best place to get good authentic Mexican food! They give you these tortillas with butter that are the bomb & chips and salsa to begin with. Everything is super fresh. I especially love their gorditas & their green chicken enchiladas. They also have the traditional Mexican drinks and I always get the horchata. This is a solid little neighborhood joint with all day breakfast. In other words, it was exactly what the doctor ordered on the last day of a recent visit to Dallas. It was around 1pm, we had stayed up late the night before and really really wanted the Mexican breakfast that we're used to back home. The moment we arrived we noticed it was crowded with families not unlike my own. Score. I knew we had lucked out when I noticed few patrons were speaking English amongst themselves. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated, but once we were led to our booth, everything went very quickly. This restaurant was worked like a well-oiled machine. The server greeted and took our drink orders quickly after the hostess seated us at a freshly cleaned table with menus. I had a limonada to drink while my dining companion ordered coffee. Along with our drinks, we were brought chips, salsa, a couple of hot corn tortillas and some butter. I had taste of the chips and salsa, but really wasn't interested. The fresh tortillas is where it's at. The butter just melted beautifully on the steaming tortilla. I ordered papas con huevo. I want to point out that is potato with egg not egg with potato and that's exactly how it is served at Cuquita's. The potatoes are tender on the inside with lightly browned crisped outside. Perhaps a little more oil than is preferable, but it's as close to what I would've made at home as any restaurant has gotten. It's also really obvious that they use real eggs and not the carton eggs based on the way the color and consistency of the egg in this dish. This plate came with refried beans and my choice of corn or flour tortillas. This is where I made a mistake. I wanted to try the flour tortillas to see if how they were compared to the corn. They were pretty generic, bland, dry, and hard; basically, they tasted store bought, but not the good kind from HEB. Do yourself a favor and get the corn. The beans were a bit oversalted, but not terrible. It did make me drink quite a bit of water. My fried opted for the machacado con huevo. This is shredded dried beef that has been scrambled with eggs, tomatoes, onions and chiles. I had a bite and it was quite tasty. He was smart and got the corn tortillas. He was so happy that he cleaned his plate. Overall, Cuquita's will be a great breakfast stop for future trips to this area. read more

This place was hyped up like you wouldn't believe. I thought being on D-Magazine's "Must Go-To" places and voted #1 Best Mexican Restaurants in Dallas, it was a complete fail. Let's start with the basics, chips and salsa.....runny...watery..store bought chips. Not what you'd expect from a high honor review....I mean I think you could have been better off heating up a bottle of Pace Picante Sauce and some Doritos. Next we come to the highly talked about Flour Tortillas, I remember someone telling me they were the bomb especially with butter and rolled up ready to eat....nope...store bought from the get go. How do I know? Well...let's just say that when your raised in a household where your everyday fork is replaced by a homemade fresh off the grill tortilla...you tend to recognize these little details. Off to the appetizer, their "Queso Flameado" or better described as melted Qoaxa and sometimes Monterey mixed with some crispy cooked Mexican style chorizo..served with a hefty dose of sautéed onion, bell peppers...and sometimes jalapeños. Now typically when your served this Queso Flameado you'll get a sweet table side presentation....the waiter will bust out some tequila...or some 151 and pour it over the dish and light it... Then twirl it around to get it all melted and mixed together.....but no...not here. This presentation was more like "ok now this is all I have to give to you...didn't wash my finest serving dish now eat it cause I'm running late to the club" type of presentation.....it was blah and hella greasy. So now for the main course...I ordered Beef Fajitas Al Carbon...was more like Beef Fajitas Al STEAM-ON....those fajitas seemed old, had that flavorless taste to them..rubbery...as if they were kept warm in a steam table...the rice and beans were tasteless...bland..no flavor...overall bad portions...horrible. Ordered a kids taco plate....figured it at least come with cheese...nope. The homemade corn tortilla fell apart...wasn't even soggy...was more of an old brittle textur to it. Now the waitress was attentive...that I will say was a plus. The ambiance was simple...just like what you'd expect from any other Mexican restaurant. It was located in a shopping mall strip next to a Fiesta...honestly you'll better tasting food at a Michoacana Meat Market or at Traders Villiage. Now what needs to happen is try not to trust D-Magazine's word and their grading system....it's obviously never on point. Seems like they like to hire people who do nothing better than to bust out their smart phones and give crazy close up camera angles on dishes and call it art, a few of these so called "Food Bloggers" are just in it for free food.....and get the establishment's attention by dropping some names....just for a comp...you comp me and I'll give you a good review. I've been in the Mexican Food scene for years now....so whe it comes to the cuisine I grew up with I kinda take it personal, for the best bang for your buck here in Dallas? I'd go with Herrera's Mexican Food or El Ranchito down in Oak Cliff, but if your out a little far west then make a pit stop at Chuy's #5 in Haltom City (Look For The Big Heffer on Top Of The Building)....or Campesinos Tex-Mex Cafe over in the East Side of Ft.Worth in Poly. I was torn between Taco Bueno and Cuquitas today for lunch. This was my first time eating at Cuquita's after reading all the good reviews on here. I have to say this food sucks. There are many other better mexican food places to eat. I wish I had gotten Taco Bueno because it would have for sure been better. I ordered 2 beef enchiladas with red sauce and a side of chips and salsa to go. The salsa is definitely NOT the best as one reviewer stated. I've had better at pretty much every mexican food place I've eaten at. The enchiladas had zero flavor - they didn't spice it up at all. The beans were blah - runny, the rice - meh nothing special by any means. I really thought I was in for a treat but I'm disappointed. Definitely wouldn't eat here again. We came here because our friend from Mexico City said this is where she comes to feel like she's at home. And I'd say that's a pretty good description. This is authentic, simple home cooking. Not fancy in any way, and not going to win any awards in Mexico for their food, but it's simple and good food, with all the right ingredients and flavors. This is generous, the two stars I mean. I went there with high hopes, and was completely let down. Firstly, the item I wanted to order was out for the evening by 7 o'clock. It was the pork ribs in green chile sauce. No big deal, I had a backup plan. I had the chile relleno, this was not gross just pretty flavorless. My wife had the flautas, kinda the same deal, not gross just not close to good. We had the queso flameada and it was good, but that was by far the highlight of our meal. So all in all. My favorite authentic Mexican place in town. Everything tastes like home cooking. Some of my favorites are the pozole, the tacos with red sauce, and the costillas de puerco. Never had a bad thing from the menu. When you sit down, they bring you a fresh hot corn tortilla made in-house. It melts like butter in your mouth. And everything is $10 or less. This is the absolute WORST Mexican food I ever had. Myself and (2) co-workers went for lunch, the meat was soured, the chips were hard, and the cheese enchiladas tasted like they were (3) days old. We complained and had no acknowledgement from management. Came back to work and checked the health score from the City of Garland and hey only scored a 70. I have gone to Cuquita's for the last time today. Actually the only thing that I like are the corn tortillas. Today I had 2 Gorditas. One had nopalitos and the other one was suppose to have cheese. The first one was $5.75 and it included rice, beans and what was suppose to be a salad, which consisted of just plain lettuce leaves, without even dressing.The second one was an additional $3.25. The stuffing in the Gorditas was so HOT and Spicy that it made my eyes water, and needless to say I only ate the shell. The rice and beans were bad. I ordered 3 corn tortillas, and I had them with butter. I also had iced tea. What a waste of $15.00! Any reputable place would have refunded the price of the Gorditas.
