The olive oil cake which was moist and delicious

We found an early Saturday 5:30 reservation available which is ideal on crazy busy weekends when everyone is booked. This is central SLC location a great choice for seafood lovers. They have an excellent bar with good selection of cocktails. The four of us had appetizers including clam chowder, clam dip, focaccia bread and fingerling potatoes. For entrees we had sea bass, scallops, cod fish and chips and the fresh King salmon. For desert we tried their olive oil cake which was generous and delicious. The ambience at Current is casual yet classy with modern decor. Definitely one of our go-to favorites in downtown Salt Lake. You should expect to pay about $50 per person which in today's food terms seems fair given the quality of the offerings and the convenience of their location. Check out the photos. Forgot to mention that service is always attentive and friendly when we come here.

This is my go-to take-myself-out-on-a-date restaurant. Fancy, but reasonably priced! It's nice to get some fresh seafood out in Utah. The oysters can be small for their price, but in a landlocked state, it's hard to judge.

We went here last night and it was a disappointing experience. The food we had was good. We had burrata that was yummy but they only give you three toasts, we had crab cakes that was really one crab cake wish our server had mention this, oysters that were great, caviar service that was confusing to order and ended up watery from the ice . Our waitress seemed irritated from the beginning and neglected to mention when we're sat that they were out of clams, lobster and crab so we couldn't get the seafood tower or the clam chowder. One of our group needed soup because she had to eat soft food and there was no alternative. It was overall a disappointment

Trying out a seafood place could be challenging, but this place did break the challenge. I have to say the two plates we got to try were delicious; the food was so fresh. I was very pleased with the taste and the texture of the food. Very well, combinations. I also got the lemon oil cake, but I got it to go, and it was not as great as I expected, but I guess I'll try to eat it in the restaurant to see if there's a difference in the presentation.

Service was impeccable. The staff looks happy despite being super busy on a Saturday night. Everything we had was delicious, the oysters were small as heck but the mahi mahi was very good. Our waiter was very attentive. The vibe was energetic and fun! And our table reservation was waiting for us. My husband loved his affogato. We weren't asked if we were celebrating anything special, despite mentioning it was his birthday in the reservation. Overall, we would return. The burrata was great, and the mahi mahi was generous.

Salmon was perfect!!! Beans weren't cooked well, they were hard, not tender. My husband thought burger was ok, fries were great!!!

Salmon was cooked to perfection! Salmon was soft and moist on the inside, with a nice, seared crisp outside. Cucumber, greens with tzatziki was so refreshing. The beans were NOT fully cooked, they were inedible. Beans weren't tender or soft. Service was good.

As a vegetarian, I always feel like an imposter writing a review for any meat-focused restaurants. Although I can't speak to their seafood, which is what they're known for, I can speak to their vegetarian options and service. The service and environment here is amazing. Our server was so attentive and kind and helpful, checking on us the perfect amount of times, and refilling/replacing our drinks whenever they got low. I got the burrata appetizer and it was amazing - it came on a bed of greens and some sort of hummus I believe? Freshly toasted baguette was on the side. It was amazing. They actually had a couple of vegetarian options to choose from and I got one of their salads - the harvest salad service with root veggies and walnuts. It was really yummy. We got one of their cakes for dessert and it was so decadent and rich. Yummy! Will definitely come back.

I was in town for work and my co-workers and I made reservations here at 6pm. It wasn't super busy when we arrived but definitely filled up as we were leaving. The ambiance is chic, the decor is modern, simple, and classy. We ordered some cocktails and wine and they were all great! The food was also delicious! I ordered the seafood Cobb salad and it was actually so freaking good. My Cobb salad came with a scallop that was cooked to perfection so I didn't have to drool over the other dishes on the table, lol. My co-workers had steak and scallop entrees. They looked incredible. Also, I need a moment to talk about the bread and butter. It was fantastic. So crusty and flavorful. Like, wowwweeeee. How do they infuse so much flavor into it?! Y'all need to try it. Service was lovely, and I would love to come back! Give this place a try!

Such a great vibe to sit down with friends and have some drinks and yummy seafood! The waitress we had was pretty good and compensated us after she noticed the bill was wrong. Oysters are super yummy!

Took a bestie here for lunch for his birthday as he was craving crab cakes. The service was great. we started off with the crab cakes, they were good. And the bread plate, focaccia and butter were amazing!!! For mains we both had fish and chips. The other sauce options for the fish were great, fries were yummy, don't forget to ask for the vinegar!

The place is so cool looking inside. Loved the vibe. The ceviches was amazing and chips were so crunchy and definitely homemade. The oysters were good but tiny and not really worth it. I had the branzino which I thought was a full fish but wasn't. Still very tasty. The fish and chips was flaky and not oily and so good. The gin cocktail special of the day was great as well

after years of wondering what this place was like we finally tried it and it was pretty good! The ambience was wonderful and cozy with dark hues that made it more intimate. I will say, whenever a restaurant serves dishes that are $30-40 i would expect bread to be included but sadly it was extra. The oyster appetizer was pretty good, although i wish the oyster was reflective of the shell size. I did enjoy the focaccia bread, it was chewy and delicious. They do have unique menus for special occasions that say your occasion you are celebrating at the top which is a sweet detail. We got the fish stew (no longer served with mussels which i was excited for) and the shrimp & grits. The shrimp are HUGE. overall it was pretty filling and flavorful. The side of fries is also pretty large. i really enjoyed my experience and i think its a nice spot to return to for a special gathering or celebration.

Now there are random scratch marks all over the walls, and honestly it looks very bad and low class. I would rather they kept the walls clean and simple with one color. The restaurant now feels cheap and dirty. In fact, the overall cleanliness was disappointing. I ordered a seafood bag and a gumbo soup. The gumbo used to be my favorite, but this time it was terrible. Even before tasting it, the color looked bad--like dirty waste water. After one bite, I could tell all the important flavors were missing. I could not continue eating it. The seafood bag was okay, but not great. Yes, the prices are lower, but it does not feel like a good value. Cheap prices are not everything. I would rather pay a little more for good food and a better dining experience. Unfortunately, I would not come back again.

Well the day finally arrived and I opted for takeout. I went with the "Make Your Own Seafood Combo" seafood boil and went with: - Shrimp (head-off) .5 lb - Snow Crab Legs .5 lb - Lobster Tail 6 oz You receive one corn and one potato with this particular combo. You can substitute the potato for an additional corn, and vice versa. You also can add on additional at an extra fee. You get several sauce choices along with spice level preference. I settled on Cajun with Fire (which is supposed to be the spiciest/hottest but I found it to be the weakest out of all the seafood boil restaurants that I've tried). Was definitely more medium spice level than the HOTTEST that I requested. The snow crab legs and lobster tail were both delicious and had a lot of meat to be found in both. The shrimp didn't seem to be cooked very well. Even after peeling and taking off the tails it was still quite a bit crunchy. I had requested utensils/napkins, and absolutely nothing was received (so I thanked God I had visited Red Lobster previously and they had given me a reusable plastic crab leg cracker with my previous meal there) otherwise I would have been stumped cracking legs all night long! For the prices at Hook & Reel Cajun Seafood, I really was not that impressed. The fact they only give you one corn (I couldn't care less for the one red potato) and the fact they don't include any utensils or napkins (as this meal is VERY messy) is a complete turn off because the restaurant can definitely afford to compensate. Overall I'd rate them a 3.5, but since that's not possible, I'll round up to a 4 as the lobster tail and snow crab legs were delicious.

I informed her that we had a reservation under my name, John, but she simply looked at her list, seemed annoyed, and told us to wait anyway. While we were waiting, we watched several parties of two arrive after us with reservations at 8:10, 8:15, and even 8:20, and they were seated before us. After waiting about 20 minutes, I went back to ask how much longer it would be. I was told it would be another 20 minutes. I reminded Carleigh that we had a reservation, and her response was, "Oh, you did?" She then asked for my full name and phone number, looked up the reservation, apologized, and immediately escorted us to a table that appeared to have been ready the entire time. This was extremely frustrating and disappointing. Reservations are made so guests don't have to wait behind people who arrive later. It felt like our reservation had been completely ignored until I spoke up a second time. Whether this was poor organization or a lack of attention, the level of service at the front desk was unacceptable. We came looking forward to a nice family dinner, but the experience started with unnecessary frustration and left a very poor first impression. Like many people, we were excited to dine at a restaurant led by a chef who has beaten Bobby Flay. We arrived for our 8:15 p.m. reservation and were seated promptly. Unfortunately, from that point on, the service became increasingly confusing. Our server seemed flustered from the beginning and even commented that she wanted to make sure everything was right for our experience. When ordering drinks, I asked for a root beer and was told they had one. A few minutes later I was informed they actually didn't and was given a Dr Pepper instead. No big deal--I didn't want to make an issue of it. The bigger problems started with the food service. There were three of us. Two ordered the filet, and one ordered the chicken. The first entrées brought to our table weren't ours at all and had to be taken away. When our actual meals arrived, they were still mixed up. I was served the chicken despite ordering the filet. The same thing happened with dessert. We ordered two Baked Alaskas and one Lemon Cake. Again, the desserts were delivered to the wrong people. These weren't major issues individually, but when they happen repeatedly throughout one meal, it takes away from what should have been an outstanding dining experience. Now for the positive... The kitchen absolutely delivered. The filet was cooked perfectly. The chicken was outstanding. Presentation was beautiful. The Baked Alaska was one of the best I've had. The food easily earns five stars. Unfortunately, the front-of-house experience did not. To make matters worse, after I finished the Dr Pepper that I hadn't originally ordered, my glass sat empty for roughly 45 minutes. No refill was offered, and I eventually had to ask for another beverage while dessert was being served. One final observation... The receipt included an optional surcharge for the back-of-house staff. I understand it could be removed upon request, but I don't believe guests should be placed in the position of deciding how restaurant employees are compensated. Pay your team well, price the menu accordingly, and let guests simply enjoy their meal. Urban Hill has one of the most talented kitchens I've experienced in quite some time. If the service can reach the same level as the food, this restaurant would easily deserve five stars.
