They are happy to help you troubleshoot your problem and very willing to save you a buck by sharing another solution they've discovered. I've gone in a number of times looking for some "thingy" and someone on staff will know exactly the "thingy" I was in search of. The staff at Curry Hardware is very helpful and knowledgable. They are ready and able to provide advice on just about any product selection or home project you could imagine. The paint folks are even happy to consult on colors and have given excellent advice. I try to tackle home projects with green and healthy materials, and the staff has had ready knowledge about my more niche concerns. Curry has a good selection of products in a wide variety of hardware departments, but you still need to hit the evil, orange neighbor for greater selection or products like lumber, piping, or plenty of other products - the only reason Curry gets 4 stars instead of 5. Prices are competitive with Home Depot... sometimes lower, sometimes higher, but almost always in the same ballpark. read more

One of the few of a dying breed - the old-fashioned hardware store. A decent selection - the TrueValue in Hyde Park is larger - but they have most things in stock. Screen replacement is shockingly expensive, and there are times when they could be more personable, frankly, but it's a great resource and better than the Depot. read more

Hooray for the small locally owned business!! This is a quick-in-and-out hardware store. They are open workingman type hours Mon-Sat 7AM to 6PM and Sunday 11AM to 4PM. I agree with Kristin G. that some hardware stores can make a female feel a wee bit unwelcome but I don't feel that way here. The store is bright, well organized and clean. Someone always asks me if I need help but I don't feel overwhelmed by it. :) Located across the intersection from Biondi's garage. Near where Willard Street goes under the highway. Huge shout out to CJ and Russell at Curry Ace Hardware in Quincy! I needed a new set screw for a door knob original to my 1930s house. Russell helped me figure out that it's a non standard screw (of course!) and that I could replace the spindle instead. HE spent 10 minutes helping me figure it out and I got a history lesson to boot! Curry Ace Hardware has great customer customer service. It doesn't matter how big or small your job is, they take the time to help you find what you need and offer solutions. As soon as you enter the store, there is someone in hand to help should you need it, but they are not pushy salespeople. I prefer to shop here over Home Depot, where the lines are long and you can never find someone in the store who knows what they are talking about, much less help you find something. read more

Rude! I was surprised to be completely ignored while waiting in line for help as two customers who hadn't waited in line were walked up by sales people and were assisted. I was directly in front of the employee so there is no way to suppose I wasn't noticed, so after almost 10 minutes I left. If there was a reason, the employee could have acknowledged me. read more

Curry is a locally owned hardware store that has been in business for many years, I'm guessing at least 50. This is a store that when the big box store moved in just down the street they didn't miss a beat and just kept doing business. I don't usually write reviews, but I felt that my recent interaction really warranted a review. I've always gone there over the past 20 years and always thought they were top notch. Today, however I truly got a glimpse at how much better they are than the other hardware stores. Today I went out to start my snowblower, and I broke the pull chord to on it. I called Curry and spoke to Rick. He talked me through how I could fix it, in a way that a 2 year old could do it! Unfortunately I am not that 2 year old. I took the assembly apart and brought it to Curry. I showed Rick the problem I was having and he told me that there was nothing I needed to buy from the store. He got some tools and fixed it right in front of me. The best part is it was a Saturday and I couldn't find a repair shop that could look at it on this day, and we were in the middle of our first storm of the season. I am completely inept when it comes to hardware & "fixing things up." Then I got the idea to refinish my patio set. I went in to get some supplies and despite the crowd, was greeted immediately and was directed to someone who would help me pick up the items I needed (& to actually TELL me what to buy, because I had no idea). They provided instructions on the best way to sand and stain the furniture and did not try to "up-sell" or confuse me. Everything was organized, and the cashier was friendly too. Also, free popcorn! They have great collection of Benjamin Moore paints, my preferred brand as I know it is quality paint. Staff was very helpful and walked me through the paint types and available options for my bathroom which has a small vent and where ventilation will be a problem. Got good recommendations for cleaning materials that will be effective but less corrosive. I am a female with little knowledge of home improvement projects. read more

These guys (almost) always have what I need. There's actually been a couple times that they didn't have what I was looking for, so they special ordered it for me! Staff is really friendly and helpful. It's nice to just be able to comfortably browse in a normal sized hardware store, as opposed to a gigantic warehouse, ie. Home Depot/ Lowes. I've been going to the Quincy store for years and they are the best. Everyone who works there is pleasant, knowledgeable, very helpful, and professional. The staff's enthusiasm and fun interaction with everyone who comes in is unique. Unlike most stores where once you enter (if you can find a staff person) they ask if you need help, you say no, and the staff person proceeds to follow you and continues with questions; the staff here ask if you need help, and if you say no, they fine just let any of us know if you have any questions. If you have questions, the staff has the answers. This kind of customer service is rare. read more

I used to spend about $80k a year at the whorehouse down the street (Quincy Adams HD). Now when I need most things I go to Curry. You don't have to wait for one guy to find another guy to help him get a fork lift and fence off areas all over the place just to find out the thing you needed was not what they took down. At Curry there is always someone to help when you need it. As soon as you walk in the store you have help if you need it. Most times if I need a part they will run and get it for me saving me lots of time. Browsing is easy too. If you need help while browsing just look up and you will find someone to help you right away. No hunting for orange vests. I told my father and his friends about the new Curry and after trying it they said that they would never shop Home Depot unless they were desperate. Home Depot QA might have been good at one time but in the last two years they have gone way down hill. read more

I love, love, LOVE this store. I happily drive right past the Home Depot and go here for everything I need from paint to tools. Yes it is a litle more expensive, but their staff is amazing and knowledgable. If they don't know something, they'll find someone who does. They don't BS you like the dolts at HD. They are so incredibly helpful. 99% of the time, someone greets you within steps of the door and asks you what you need. The store is bright and clean and incredibly organized. And they offer to carry your purchases to your car!!! I will happily spend a little more at a place like this instead of giving my money to the shareholders of HD. I've brought my dyson vacuum here to be repaired a couple of times. They got it working, but it never really worked perfectly. They're pretty good at servicing customers. Not a large store and may not have everything you need, and a little on the pricey side, but overall a nice option to Home Depot. read more

Although more expensive then the big box stores like HD and Loews you get what you pay for here and that is service the people here are very knowledgeable and know everything about your home improvement needs. It's like stepping back in time when customers meant something to a business where they didn't just see dollar signs but people friends and neighbors ( yes they actually care!) I went just the other week to get a new shade for my bedroom I gave the employee the measurement she cut it per my specifications I took it home it was off just slightly I went the next day told them I was wrong which I was they didn't even ask for a receipt they cut me a new shade right away no questions asked even though it was all my fault which I admitted to. I'd like to see that ever happen at any other hardware store. I'd pay the slightly higher prices here any day just for the amount of service you get. read more

Home Depot was out of a product one day, and i decided to check out Curry Hardware. The customer service was top notch. I can't say enough about this store. I skip HD to come here instead. We just spent over $300 in paint and the staff could not have been more helpful and honest. They said we could get by with one pack of rollers rather than trying to oversell us. We went to a fancy paint/decorating store (Babel's) and we're treated so rudely we took our business to Curry. Nice neat store very helpful employees, but there prices are ridiculously high. From one ace hardware to this one a gallon of Benjamin Moore paint is $12.00 more. I like to support local businesses rather than big chains. I will not be shopping for anything in Curry again. I could see a couple or few dollars more, but not &12.00. Feel like I was robbed.
