This was our first time at curryland. Came due to the previous reviews. We have been to most of the curry houses in RI. The restaurant is BYOB. There wasn't a lot of people inside of the restaurant Itself, but a lot of takeout orders. We ordered the cauliflower 65, paneer 65 as appetizers. They were great and flavorful. For the main course I ordered the Goat vindaloo and garlic naan. My wife ordered chicken makhani. The goat had a lot of bones in it. And was fatty. It wasn't overly flavorful and the portion wasn't that big so kind of disappointed in the size of the bones in the meat. The naan was baked well. A little overly buttery but not a big deal. Over all I think I'll try something else if we go again. My wife was kind of expecting white meat for the chicken. And usually other restaurants always provide that, so we kind of seen it as maybe lower quality than other Indian restaurants that we go to regularly. If I didn't venture off the island I'd say curryland is a good choice especially if your new to Indian food. Otherwise there are way better options in providence etc. that provide better quality. We will give the location another chance, seems like it's a local favorite but doesn't mean that it's the best in RI haha. The waitress seemed like she didn't want to be there, and wasn't unfriendly but wasn't outgoing either haha. Either way if I had to give a number out of ten I'd say a 6.5-7/10 read more

Is this as good as it gets for Newport/Middletown? I guess so. Not going to totally write this place off since we love Indian food and have to get our fix somehow. I hate to say how I've had indian food in so many great places, but as the military moves us...I have had fantastic Indian food in DC, Japan, Hawaii, and even Singapore, but nothing beats the real thing. The flavors were pretty good, my only real complaint was the meat. The meat (goat) in the korma was all bones (see pics) and super tough. I had to spit it out after chewing for about 5 minutes on one side. I was afraid I would break my crown if I used the other side of my jaw. The lamb in the lamb vindaloo was also really tough Maybe go with the vegetarian options? The naan was good, and the rice was too. Kheer for dessert tasted off to me, like it was spoiled? read more

Is there anything less than one star? waiter was rude and insisted that he couldnt possibly take an appetizer order and it had to be done all at once. Had an issue with my order and was told i still had to pay even though it was below sub par and told that the issue was with me not the dish. Do not ever frequent this establishment unless you enjoy disappointment. read more

We order takeout from here frequently - we love the Butter Chicken as well as the vegetarian options. Our favorite vegetarian meals are the Hara Palak Paneer and the Paneer Tikka Masala. They have great naan (we love the cheese one in particular!). Don't forget to order some samosas as well! read more

Phenomenal food and extraordinary service. The restaurant is beautifully appointed and clean. You can carry out or eat in, and they are prepared to give you a fine dining experience for a reasonable price. Curryland is a new favorite restaurant for this well traveled person. The crispy chicken tikka was the most tender chicken I've ever eaten. The serving size was huge. Definitely worth the price.

But I've traveled overseas and sometimes the names of businesses can sound well...you know! I had the Lamb Curry and my friend got, I forget the name but it was chicken with pieces of cashews in the mix. We also had the pesto Nan and cheese nan. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is that some nights we get food that is just a little different (less or more spicy, less or more seasoned) that others. Case in point, after Christmas, we got our usual (chicken tikka masala - a staple and hard to mess up), and the chicken was a little too chewy and the sauce was bland. We've lived in SW Asia for several years and had access to amazing cuisine, so we've had great Indian and this was a miss (which was weird because Curryland had always nailed it) We're jonesing for Indian recently and went back - and the meal was tremendous. Got the chicken tikka masala and they nailed it. Server recommended a different kabob dish for our kids since we're trying to broaden their palate and it was out of this world tender and spiced perfectly) Sunday's seems to be the best night to order - so maybe it's a chef on duty thing. I was pretty excited to find an Indian restaurant closer to home, but wasn't very impressed. If my entree hadn't been so good, this would be a 1 star review. The atmosphere is...meh. Unimpressive. The chairs were wobbly, "art work" was cheap, plates dirty, we weren't greeted in a friendly manner and the service in general was far from good. The dough of the vegetable samosas was under cooked and the filling was dry. Not sure how that was accomplished. The mango lassi had large bits of what I think was cardamom in it, which wasn't very pleasant to have show up in your drink. And it was served in a paper to-go cup. Weird. You can't even give us a glass when purchasing a drink for $3.50? My boyfriend got the goat korma. The flavor was really good but there were a lot of bones and grizzle and large pieces of spices in it, that again, weren't very pleasant to bite into. I am glad they are using whole spices...but biting into a piece of star anise and having to spit things into our napkins while eating...not cool. On the plus side, I ordered chicken malai kabob and it was out of this world! I would definitely order that single item again, but probably only for take-out. If you're in the mood for curry, drive the extra distance to EG or Providence and you'll have a much better experience. read more

I ordered Grubhub delivery for lunch. AWFUL!! I ordered at 11 and didn't get it until 1:30 even though it said 30-45 min delivery. I called Grubhub confirmed the driver picked up food 20 minutes ago - cold as can be by the time I got it. So good... Good flavor was great, garlic naan and pamper tikka masala. I did come across a piece if metal in tikka masala which is concerning. Veggie app left much to be desired - very soggy but I blame that on the horrific delivery not restaurant. We went to Rhode Island for a visit and while returning to Stamford , CT we went here. We ordered Chilli Chicken,Samosa Chat,Garlic Naan,Chicken Korma,Chicken Biryani,Mango lassi. and here goes the review of these items. Chilli Chicken - Very less quantity. Taste is good. Samosa Chat - Surprisingly it was cold. We asked them to reheat. But they agreed to give us another one. It was cold as well. When we asked about it , the person behind the bill counter responded that it's management decision to serve cold Chickpeas in the chat and cancelled the order. We observed that his tone is very formal to Americans(sitting in the next table) and rude to us(Indians). Chicken Korma - Excellent. Chicken Biryani - It was more like a pulao. Taste is ok ok.. Garlic Naan - Taste is good but very less(or no) garlic. Mango lassi - Decent Over all, the taste is decent.Wait time is too high. P.S: We felt that the management was more friendly towards American's that Indians(may be because Indians know the real taste of Indian food). read more

I am so glad we now have an awesome local Indian restaurant on Aquidneck Island. I have eaten here with friends three times and have always been pleased with both the service and food quality. Curryland has recently switched to a digital ordering app that servers can use to track orders; this has increased their ability to track custom orders with accuracy. As a fairly new restaurant, this lets me know that they are always improving and listening to polite customer feedback. This place is the real deal! We have needed an Indian restaurant on this Island forever...and one of this quality is a super bonus! The food is super authentic, super fresh and so tasty! The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is very clean and airy. I have flashbacks of my friends grandmother cooking for us on several visits to her house and this brings back all those memories! Soo, soooo good! One of the joys I've experienced traveling to India is the food. I could order small amounts of many different things at the same setting; an entree, rice and dahl, curry, bread and dessert all at a reasonable price. Not at Curryland. You need to order a full order of each dish. This could easily price out at $50 or more. I would be a repeat customer if I didn't feel repeatedly ripped off. read more

Delightful to find a new Indian restaurant here in Newport! We are fortunate to have this new home for Indian cuisine right here on the island; and though it sounds like a chain, it is it's own privately owned business. Furthermore, in addition to it being convenient and local, it's good stuff: the particular flavors of the each dish stood out as special and distinctive, which is not the case at all Indian restaurants. The vegetarian dishes were all delicious and with just enough spice to be awakening without being overpowering, and we finished the meal with that happy kind of feeling that comes from a yummy Indian meal. PS: if you like Naan bread, try the ONION NAAN, OMG it's heavenly! So yes I highly recommend to give it a try, and we will definitely be coming back for more! read more

I was very excited to try the lunch buffet BUT it didnt have a great selection probably because it doesn't have the foot traffic just yet which is understandable! I had the butter chicken which was so good and a few other items. The location is great, great staff. A few of my friends have tried their takeout and are very happy. They didn't have my favorite - chicken tikki masala at the buffet so ill have to order it to try it out! I will update the review soon! read more

Ordered appetizers (samosa, aloo tikki and pakoras) around 8:00pm for pickup. I came home in 15mins to find stale and spoilt aloo tikki along with equally stale pakodas (fritters). the food smelt horrible. Had to trash/compost everything. -Upon calling the restaurant for refund and to suggest not serving these Dishes to others, I was treated as though I was trying to get a free meal out of their service. -They told me the aloo Tikki was freshly made in the morning!? & that I drive back and return the items for a replacement. to which I requested them to deliver to me instead and pick up their masterpiece instead. which they obviously refused. -I understand sometimes mistakes happen, but the treatment I received, along with being curtly told to figure out the refund issue with door dash, has motivated me to type this lengthy review! -Update: After 20mins of being on the phone with Door dash I was finally refunded, oh but only for the alootikki, despite telling them that I will not be consuming any of their food. we drive past this place every day on our way to and from work, but never stopped in because the location is in a shopping center and who knows ... but, we did stop for dinner tonight, and are so glad we did! the decor and ambiance inside are much nicer than the exterior and location might suggest ... clean, open, warm (on a cold winter evening), nicely illuminated space, welcoming waitstaff. the vegetarian selections are ample, and we ordered whole wheat rotis, paneer tikka masala, dal makhani, and chai, without specifying heat level or anything in particular. everything, without exception, was perfectly made, flavorful and spicy without burning the house down, and we found ourselves feeling wolfishly hungry because it was all so yummy! (i don't even get food this nice in india, most of the time.) evidently, during the winter months they offer a 10% discount to dine in, 8% on take out (which seemed to be a brisk flow) ... and our host and waiter were very kind and helpful, striking a good balance between being attentive and subtle. we were happily surprised by this place, and look forward to many more lovely dinners on the way home. thank you again ... read more

Not a lot of variety on the lunch buffet. The naan bread was just ok. It had too much butter flavor. The rice was too dry. But all of the other food was pretty tasty. I had a zucchini dish that was pretty good. It tasted like potatoes which is not a bad thing. I don't understand why they didn't mop the floors. The floors were grossly sticky. The chef came out to talk to a couple of guests about his escapades around the world. The chef was wearing shorts and a food stained apron. It was a sure turn off. I couldn't look at him and eat my food. He was a very nice man but it was bad etiquette. I guess for RI this place will do but they have nothing on Rajput Indian Cuisine in Virginia. read more

A friend of mine recommended Curryland for their delicious food, and took me to dinner there on Sunday night of Memorial Day weekend. I called to make a reservation for 5:00, as we had tickets to see a play in Providence at 7:30. The man on the phone made it clear that we should be there right at 5 because they had several other reservations that evening. We arrived promptly at 5 and were greeted by a rather rude young lady at the register/desk who just stared at us. After I said we had a reservation, she pointed to a section of tables and told us to sit. We saw the menus on another table in front of the desk so we grabbed 2 and sat down. There was only one other group of diners there at that time. The waiter came to our table a little while later and, same as the greeter, just stared at us. I said hello, and he started by saying they were only serving entrees that night, no appetizers or desserts. Strange for a holiday weekend, but we ordered 2 sodas and our meals. The waiter was not friendly at all and we both felt rushed while ordering. He brought us over 2 semi-cold cans of soda shortly after but no glasses or ice. In the meantime, a group of teenagers had come in and been seated. After about 15 minutes of not being acknowledged, they left. We got our food (shrimp biryani and chef special biryani) and ate every bit of it. It was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!! The flavors were just perfect, everything was cooked just right, it was amazing. When we were ready to leave, we looked at the waiter and tried to politely gesture to him that we were ready to pay, but he ignored us until I just got up and went over to the desk. I said that I wanted to pay, and the young lady told me that the system was down, and I would have to wait. I told her (and now the waiter who had joined her) that we are on a tight time frame so if it wasn't up and running shortly that we would have to write a check. It ended up taking about 15 minutes. Since the waiter didn't visit our table once after the food was brought to us, we didn't leave a great tip. The customer service and general attitude of employees there was poor at best, so I don't recommend Curryland for the experience, but I do recommend them for the food. I will definitely be getting take-out next time though! I've never been to a restaurant that I felt so much like my dining there was an inconvenience to the staff! read more
