Famous does not mean awesome! We stopped in here based on the reviews and were pretty disappointed. While the town is quaint and there is tremendous potential, this place felt past it's prime. I expected old-timey feel and instead it looked dirty and run down. The bathroom is disgusting with no way to dry your hands and a door lock that does not work. The dining area is unkept and had supplies stacked up and bugs lurking in the corners. The food is served on the tiniest flimsy paper plates, and please do not watch them make the hot dogs. The cook uses his bare hands to place the food on the bare counter, where the waitress picks it up to put it on those plates. The cook is also the cashier, so after handling your money, goes back to making dogs. While the owner was friendly it did not make up for the lack of quality. The "everything" hot dogs are a simple thin dog with a streak of brown mustard, a forgettable chili "sauce" that seems related to the inside of a runny 7-11 beef and bean burrito, and wilty diced onions. If you are seeking any other options they also have ketchup and American cheese for toppings. We even tried other things on the menu to try and save the visit, but to no avail. We could not find anything redeeming about this place. The food was extremely simple to the point of being forgettable, seemingly no effort was put toward quality ingredients, presentation, or pride of ownership. If your idea of comfort food is a white bread sandwich with mayo and Velveeta then this place is your spot. I had hoped for the small town atmosphere and locally crafted goodness, but instead found the shortages of World War I and Great Depression era re-lived. Best Hotdogs EVER!!!! I am shocked that there is not one single review about Curtis's. I live in Baltimore, but my mom was born and raised in Cumberland, and my grandparents are still there. I have been going to Curtis's since I was born. If you have never had a hotdog with the "special sauce" then you are truly missing out. My entire family is addicted to them. Vanilla Coke's are the best too! The restaurant is very old fashioned and the staff and the owners are great! If for any reason I cannot make the trip to Cumberland, I always have my mom stop in and get 10 dogs "to travel" and bring them home with her. Although, nothing is better then getting them fresh in the restaurant! If you are ever passing thru town, I would make it a point to stop in. Every time I am in Cumberland and Curtis' is open, I will go in, grab a stool at the counter and order a dog with "sauce" fries and a milkshake all at unbelievably cheap prices! I have ridden the bike trail through Cumberland on several occasions and discovered this place on my first trip. It has become a staple of every bike trip since. Also worth mentioning is the super friendly staff here including Geno the man running the joint who posed for a photo for my bike journal. It is noisy in here, but in a good way. If you're like me and you love to eat wieners, then this is the place for you! I have been going to this fine establishment for over a decade and could not be happier with the service and products. Typically I eat anywhere from 7-9 wieners in a sitting, a real food orgy, and each one is better than the last. The special sauce is stored in a giant vat and really hits your taste buds. Today was shop small business day so we went downtown in Cumberland and went to Barkin' Basement and an antique store close by. Had a great time and walked away with half a dozen very full shopping bags.
