Lifebooker deal for $39--Eyelash perm and Crybaby Mascara application (semi permanent mascara) WHY SHOULD YOU DO THIS: First off. THIS IS A GREAT DEAL. Eyelash perms cut your morning routine in half if done correctly..but if done incorrectly will cause you some annoyance for a good couple of months. I should know. I followed some yelp reviews to some lash perming spots and had little faith left in the whole process. Until Yuki. THINGS TO LOOK FOR IN A GOOD LASH PERM: You really can't just go ANYWHERE for this. Chemicals are near your eyes for about 45 minutes and if you are one to value your sight take caution to less meticulous places. You need someone who has nimble hands and is not rushing, but also important is that esthetic eye for what looks good, ie the SHAPE your final perm will be (J shape, L shape, C shape...and also the spacing between lashes). One place I went to was terrible. They used a one size fits all roller (they basically put a tiny roller near your lid and clip the lashes backward onto the roller to perm it) and my lashes came out basically making a full circle which truncated the look of them and made applying mascara a NIGHTMARE (all the lashes went every which way which caused major clumpage issues) ATMOSPHERE: Curvy Lashes is in a very inconspicuous run-down building. The elevator appears to be broken, so I took the stairs and halfway up I heard the elevator finally arrive-so the thing works but you have to wait. If this were night time I might have been scared being in the building. The actual place was SUPER SMALL. You start to doubt whether you are doing the right thing going to such a small operation, but once Yuki took me into her room I felt instantly relaxed. Her room is small but clean. YUKI: Yuki herself has a great low-key demeanor. She instantly put me at ease. Doesn't talk too much, but she understands that we are basically helpless once she starts putting chemicals on our eyes. Much like going to the dentist, you cannot open or move your eyes once she starts which might be frightening to some. Whenever there is an extra noise or contraption she is using, she will gently give you a little notice (ie. Turning on the timer for 7 minutes could startle people when it rings) I definitely fell asleep during the procedure...she is very gentle. What I liked the MOST was that she did not seem to be in a rush and I was the only person on her schedule for that time slot. Nobody waiting in the waiting room (although I saw her schedule and it is jampacked lately due to this deal. Therefore it is VERY important for clients to be ON TIME). Felt 100% of her attention devoted to me. WHAT TO EXPECT: 1. Don't wear makeup to the appointment 2. Sign a waiver 3. Briefly discuss what shape you want 4. Lay down and relax while closing your eyes shut and let her work 5. She will show you a mirror with the final product of the perm 6. THEN she begins the Crybaby application. She took time to discuss that the lashes will feel stiffer. I have it on right now and it feels the same as mascara but actually less stiff. 7. Lay down and relax while she works 8. She will show you the final product 9. She will give you a HOME-CARE printout. Basically I had no idea what crybaby was. For most people it fades in 2 weeks or more, but some people opt to go in and get it taken off by Yuki after 2 weeks. Overall, I will return to Yuki. I've been coming here a while, for about two years. This review is not about the perm (which is acceptable but pricier than other places - I used to go somewhere cheaper I liked better but they hired people who were horible and you never knew if you'd end up with one of them) but the customer service. I have been a good customer. $70 eyelash perm plus tip is not cheap. However, today I had to canxel because there is no electricity on the entire L train, which was announced after I had been waiting almost an hour. There is no other close train and I can't afford a $30 cab ride into Manhattan, to say nothing of how I would get back home since fixing this will likely take hours. I called Yuki and apologized profusely for cancelling and explained the situation which is out of my control, and got yelled at. So on top of losing the money I already paid for the scheduled perm which I'm missing thanks to the MTA I get yelled at, by someone who knows me as a good customer and knows I had no control of this situation. That sort of behavior is unacceptable. Needless to say, I will never make an appointment here again. I'm taking my business elsewhere. UPDATE: I came back to update this review because Yuki actually wrote me a letter apologizing and refunded my money, both of which I much appreciate. I am still baffled at her behavior but it takes a big person to acknowledge they were in the wrong and that is much appreciated so I'm adding back a star. read more

I chanced upon Curly Lashes on yelp while searching for eyelash perm salons. The online booking system was very easy to use. Sayaka permed my lashes and was very nice to be although I was 30mins late. I got the C curve lashes which is supposed to look more natural. The perm was supposed to last 3-4 weeks and Sayaka gave me specific instructions to follow to ensure the curls last. However after one day my curls flattened! I have very flat Asian hair and normal curls on my head don't last. I called Sayaka and told her my situation and she arranged for another appointment to fix my lashes for free. It has been 1.5 weeks since my perm and my lashes are still curled :) Very satisfied with the service and thank you Sayaka for fixing my lashes!! read more

I've had great experiences here until today. I got my usual tint and perm, but am really disappointed with the results. I scheduled in advance, but another person came in the middle of my service and the one technician was going back and forth between us both. I'm usually so happy with the results but today, I'm really upset. The perm is SO curved that the lashes are curling back so tight that they almost wrap back and touch the base. The result is that my lashes look shorter!! The tint is also uneven so I have short, slightly tinted lashes. Insult to injury was waiting the extra long time with your eyes forced shut while the clinician bounced between two people. Not worth the $90 read more

Well, today is April 7th. I had my lash perm done Jan 17th and I have about 5 curled lashes left, so I'm sad, but just wanted to let you all know that I thoroughly enjoyed the perm during its first 2 months. What a treat! read more

Went in yesterday for a lash perm with Yuki and I went in with some pretty high expectations given the reviews here. I've had lash perms before and I know how well they can come out, but that did not happen here. My lashes are now too curled to the point that some lashes curl into itself and are hidden beneath my eyelid. Some of them are not a smooth curl and look very jagged. I can do a much better job just curling my lashes with an eyelash curler but I wanted to get a perm done because I am going on vacation. Really disappointed :( read more

Absolutely loved my perm with Yuki! She's very gentle and patient in making sure she understands what you're comfortable with. Unfortunately I missed the online voucher and paid full price for it ($75 + tax) which is a bit pricey, but I was so satisfied with the results that I wasn't too bummed. I'd love to go back the next time she has a deal going on. The owner dedicated the entire 1.5 hours on my lashes, which I felt was worth the price I paid from Lifebooker. I did the eyelash perm and crybaby procedure. I was happy with the results! The other place had my eyelashes crimped the wrong way the first time around, but with Yuki, they were perfectly curled! I love the crybaby as well, I look like I have a thin coat of mascara on. I have very straight, very blonde lashes and have allergic reactions to the glue used for eyelash extensions. I was about to try extensions again with hypoallergenic glue when a friend recommended a lash perm instead. I got a lash perm at Curvy Lashes yesterday and I am beyond pleased with the results! I've been going to Yuki for about a year now for eye lash perm. My lashes are on the shorter side and grow straight down. Curlers (metal or heated wand) don't work for me. Once I get the perm, I literally only have to use mascara. The perm will last me about 3-4 weeks. Yuki is very sweet and dilligent about her work. Yuki did a fantastic job! My eyelashes were very neatly, and carefully, done, and looked more natural than they have when I've had them done at other places. I got one of those discount vouchers and got the eyelash perm and semi-permanent mascara done for $39 (it's normally $100). The space is very small, but relaxing. Yuki has permed my lashes about 8 times now. She is extremely professional and an excellent listener. The process takes about an hour and she literally combs your lashes to prevent that spider look. She understands how to curl lashes without leaving ridges or hard lines. I get compliments every single time I see her. I can skip the mascara and curler and look done. She charges $75 per perm and offers discounts a few times a year. Each perm lasts about 2.5 months for me- probably because I don't need to wear mascara and curl them I notice I lose less lashes. When I explain the process to other women I end up saying- do yourself a favor go see Yuki and wake up cuter in the morning. read more

I have heard that these 2 ladies do really great work with eyelash perming and I actually saw the lashes of one of the customers and it was done really well so I decided to give them a chance with eyelash extensions. I went with Sayaka, who has been doing extensions for the past 3 years but I get the impression that is not her area of expertise. The room in the office building that she and the other woman she works with is very small. It was clean but had just enough room for the 2 tables for customers and a small area that they use as a desk and keep supplies. They have an nice looking website but they don't seem to get the appointments you attempt to book online so it is best to call. Anyway, in spite of all this, and a language challenge when communicating with Sayaka, she was very sweet and professional. I do know that I have short natural lashes - however, having gone to no less than a dozen eyelash salons in the city, I know that for the right price and with the right technician, I can get a glamour look lash extension. Sayaka, however, only uses silk lashes - not mink, which give a more "natural" effect so in order to get a dramatic look, which I emphasized to her many times, more or thicker lashes were needed. I volunteered to pay above the Groupon for thicker lashes which she agreed to in our text messages. Once I was there, she told me that because of my lashes being short that she could only do a very natural look. That basically meant she was not willing to go with thicker or more lashes. I didn't argue. Oh, let me point out that she was doing a lash perm at the same tine she had me come in for my extensions so she had to go back and forth between the two of us. I am not a fan of this. Also, I had to smell the acrid scent of the perm they use to curl the lashes. There is no sink in the room so only twice during this back and forth did Sayaka use hand sanitizer and did not use gloves when doing the lady with the lash perm. So I ended up smelling the perm on her hands at one point. That is something she needs to work on. So at the end of it all, the lashes looked nice for what they were. A "natural" set of soft silk lashes that looked like I was ready to apply mascara. They did not have the lush look of extensions I have gotten from MANY of the other salons in the city. Again, I agreed to just doing it her way. I even gave her a 20% tip. I knew not to get them wet for a day or 2. I knew never to rub them. I don't wash my face with oil-based anything. I do not wear eye-make up except on rare special occasions. So nothing was done to hasten the lash fall-out. After 2 days, I had lost about 20 lashes. After I started seeing one or two on my pillow, on my sweater, in the sink as I brushed my teeth, I realized that I was loosing waaaaaaaay too many lashes way too quickly. In 2 years and over a dozen salons, NEVER have I lost over half my lashes within ONE WEEK of application. I gave her a 2 star based primarily on her lash perming but for extensions, I think she may need more practice especially when applying to short lashes. I was able to get in contact with her and expressed my disappointment. She was very accommodating to me and volunteered to fix them at my convenience. I chose not to do that because I am not confident that they wouldn't fall off again and with my vacation approaching, I need to ensure that my lashes are done right. I didn't want to have to go back again before the holidays if the fix didn't work out. So I told her no, but thank you. Because I bought a Groupon that included a refill, she refunded me half of the cost and for that I was very grateful. But I still give an honest review. read more

I basically don't put much of makeups due to my job, especially eye makeups, a mechanical eyelash curler never works on my lashes, because I always sweat and scratch my eyes, then ended up having a horrible raccoon-eyes from mascara too... So I tried this new combo set of "eyelash perm and cry baby semi-permanent-mascara", my friend said this is the one to go for, and WOW! my friend was right, my eyelashes are perfectly curved upwards since then, and I don't need to wear mascara anymore because this new mascara stays on my lashes 2-3 weeks with no smudge! I had a lash perm done here and won't be back. I have gotten a lash perm before with GiGi on 26th but I couldn't get an appointment before my trip so decided to try Curvy Lashes. I really loved my results with my first lash perm and didn't think it would matter where I got it done. I was wrong. I can barely tell if the difference this time and I think I may have either a bald spot or some how the lashes are bunched together so it looks like a bald spot. i have been doing eyelash perms for a long time and went to curvy lashes for the first time with lifebooker loot. yuki-san was very pleasant and worked quickly. the treatment room is among a suite of other professional services (shared sitting area). the bed is very comfy with a tempur-pedic pillow and frou-frou linens. yuki-san gets all her perming solutions from japan and she likes things with low chemical content. i am pleased with how my lashes look but the regular pricing here is a little higher than other places so look for specials. read more

My first visit was 4 wks ago. I had my lashes permed by Sayaka. I booked an appointment online with ease. I arrived to my appointment a few minutes late but she was still able to take me. I was expecting a salon but instead it's located in a tiny space (closet space) with 2 beds. It's very clean and organized. They use their space efficiently. Sayaka did her magic and about an hour later my lashes were curled. My eyes didn't sting or burn at all throughout the process. I was afraid of eye irritation because I wear contacts and have very dry sensitive eyes but I didn't have any problems. I have somewhat straight lashes (I'm Chinese) and getting them permed so I don't have to curl them every single morning is so worth it. I refrained from getting them wet for the first 24 hours. After that, I was able to normally wash my face with cleanser, moisturize, wear makeup, and rub my eyes. I love waking up every morning looking awake and not half asleep.
