These guys are awesome. Took my shiny new Porsche 718 Cayman S in after I hit a pothole and the dealer wanted $5300 for 2 new rims and balance. I called Custom Alignment and Allan was super helpful; he talked me out of spending the money on a new set of rims, and to see if they could be repaired first. Once the car was in the shop, they noticed that 3 wheels were actually bent (not just two), and they were able to have 2 of the 3 wheels repaired and refinished instead of replaced. They handled all the repair work (outsourced to Pacific Rim), and had the presence of mind to ensure the refinishing was done all at once, so as to achieve a color match on all 4 wheels. By going with them, I saved $2,800 vs the dealer quote -- *and* I got the 3rd wheel fixed as well. Their shop is full of Porsches, Mercedes, and other cars that are obviously well looked-after by their owners. I'd absolutely go back to Custom. read more

I was referred to Custom by friends at Team Shelby and did not leave disappointed in the least. Dave scheduled me, greeted me, and had superb communication throughout the process. I was getting my GT500 ready for a track day event and the tech, Charlie, took the time to understand what I wanted from the car and went to work dialing it in. They set expectations kind of high in terms of the amount of time/expense but came in under on both. I left an extremely happy customer and recommend Custom with the highest regard. They did front-wheels alignment and put 4 new tires on my 2008 BMW 335i coupe. It was 3 hours wait time and $250 charge. On the way back, after three/four miles of driving, DSC and DBS brake system malfunction light came on. I thought it might be not related to what they did and since I have my car on warranty, I went to BMW service nearby next day to check it. After several system reset attempts and test drives they did, the BMW technician was pretty sure it's an alignment not properly done causing the brake systems malfunction. I called Custom Alignment and told them this. They didn't want to deal with the system reset themselves and proposed a refund for alignment work they did. It took me two days at BMW service (I got a loaner car though) and $300 charge for 4-wheel alignment work. Custom Alignment did refund $120 seeing BMW service invoice and the alignment report. They tried to argue it was because I didn't want to the rear wheels alignment at the time (which was within the specs in the BMW report before they did anything) while BMW service technician clearly indicated it was alignment not properly done by Custom Alignment causing the problem. Not the worst experience you can imagine, but obviously not good at all! read more

Had my new wheel and tire setup sent here from tire rack. These guys lived up to their reputation. Though I didn't have a wheel lock key, they magically produced the exact socket for it. (Well, that was probably just lucky.) Then after showing me how badly bent my rims were, they didn't charge me for the full balance on the old wheels. I was in and out in about an hour. These guys are top notch..if you own a high end vehicle and want precision work done that exceeds anything your dealer would ever deliver, these guys are for you. Overkill if you're fixing the family van..they're not cheap. But if you want the best, these guys will do the job right, the first time. I've been back here a few times now, and while they aren't the best value in town, they do perform good work and are pleasant to deal with.

If you value your car, understand that you get what you pay for, know a lot about suspension or not a whole lot like myself: This is the only place in the South Bay to bring your Ride. I brought my EVO X in back in January after having Ohlin Coilovers installed over at Fftec (will review at some point too!) Dave, the older gent, takes care of the paperwork and clearly has years of experience with regards to suspension... performance/track or daily driver. I worked with Jim, who is quite educated and knowledgeable about everything suspension. I would suggest that if you have some preconceived ideas about what will work with your particular vehicle that you relax and keep an open ear and mind with what they tell you. Jim educated and explained to me the rational behind NOT going too low or "slammed" if I want to maintain performance... "Oh really come on Jim want that slammed look.... ignorant me :) " But what I really liked is after considering my options regarding lowering and handling performance we struck a nice compromise. Reasonable lowering while not compromising too much on the handling. And that they did. I love the look and I love the handling, though clearly I now understand why these EVOS (probably most imports) should never be slammed on stock suspension with aftermarket coilovers. I did compromise a little, but my EVO is on Rails and clearly a different beast :)) read more

Totally honest and straight forward. These guys set a very high bar for everybody else. All my questions were answered with an imformative, thought out answer (and how many times do they hear these same questions?). I have a 1990 Toyota Corolla, with 370,000 miles that I beat and drive hard on rough rural roads, doing things to my car you should probably only do to a rental car (I'm a hiker and mountain climber), 3 of my alloy wheels were so bent out of shape they couldn't properly balance and align them. I was advised of the best course of action and also told that my alignment really didn't look that bad. And they said they also needed to advise me that the bulge in my rear tire wasn't safe. So, I'll be back with new wheels from tirerack.com. I like what another guy said about shipping your wheels right to the store. read more

Last fall I brought my Audi RS6 here to have them look in to a slight vibration I was feeling on the road occasionally. Troubleshooting is expensive so instead they suggested that they rebalance the wheels.. to do so they had to unmount and remount 2 tires to get them to balance correctly. Who does that? any other place would have simply added extra weights to the rim and let me ride off thinking all was well. Would take my wifes car and other cars here anytime. The only thing for me is it is not close to home or work which means getting a ride or scheduling super early.. still worth it. read more

Brought my Dodge Dakota in yesterday. It was drifting to the right and had been into another shop that said it was within spec. Because it was still drifting, I had to try again. My mechanic who doesn't do alignments recommended Custom Alignment. Their technician put it on the equipment and immediately determined that the caster was "backwards" on the front wheels. This is truly one of the fine service providers in the Bay Area. They are all about getting the job done perfectly. My first encounter with them was for a 76 Ford Van, which had terrible tire wear. For that vehicle, you had to bend the axle to align the wheels!! They did it to a tee. Guess that means I've been going there 35 years. I bought 4 tires online from TireRack.com and had them shipped directly to Custom Alignment for mounting and balancing. As Dave had suggested, I called to make the appointment as soon as I got an email confirmation from Tire Rack that the tires have been shipped. I brought my car in on time. Joe immediately processed the order, courteously offered me a ride to the nearest Starbucks, and an hour later got a phone call that the job was complete. Upon pick up, Joe answered at length a few questions I had, which provided me good advice and education about tires. Custom Alignment's pricing was not especially competitive, but the quality of the work and the service and the attitude of the owners were superb. read more

i had another shop change my ball joints and sway bar bushings. After the work was completed, a new noise in the front suspension appeared so I took it back to the shop who found nothing wrong. I decided to have Custom Alignment look at the truck. In an hour, they had diagnosed the problem as improper torque and lack of grease in the new parts. Although the original shop changed the parts (in my 3rd visit), I should have had Custom Alignment do all of the work from the start. If CA would have done the original suspension work, it would have save me a great deal of time, angst and trouble. read more

These guys are freakin' great! I recently put wider rims and new tires on my car, as well as coilovers, strut braces, beefier sway bars, endlinks, new tension rods, control arms, tie rods etc. Even with having the wheels road force balanced I was developing a shake in the steering wheel between 60-67mph, as well as an out-of-round tire feeling at 50-55mph so I knew it was a balancing issue. I do a lot of highway driving, so having any sort of insecure feeling at these speeds was unacceptable. I brought my wheels back to the original place that did the balancing and had them rebalanced and the shake moved from 65-72 and the out of round feeling at 55 was still there :( . I then went to another reputable tire shop in my neighborhood and had them road forced balanced again, and had the same problem. I was beginning to think my new wheels were bad, and had them checked out and no one could find a problem. As happy as I was that my wheels checked out, I was beginning to get extremely frustrated, but still, I brought the wheels to three more different shops in marin and had the same problem again and again. I parked the car for two weeks because I didn't know what was going on and was just plain fed up and didn't have the time to deal with it. Then a friend told me about custom alignment, which I had heard about before through multiple forums, and decided to make the 100 mile round trip down to mountain view. The tech who was working on my car, Charlie (Thank you again, Charlie!) and myself took the car out for a test drive where he confirmed the car shaking at 55mph and the steering wheel shake at 60+mph. We talked about my concerns and right away I had the feeling that he knew how to solve it. He brought the car in the shop, took the wheels off, took the old weights off, cleaned the goop off from the old weights, and started with a clean slate. He was meticulous in getting the wheels just right, and took his time, I was happy just seeing the amount of time he was putting in and the perfection in the whole shop. He let me know exactly what was going on step by step, and sure enough all my tires were out of balance and out of round. Basically, My conclusion is that all the shops I had taken my wheels to previously had no idea what they were doing and not only wasted my time, but also wasted my money. It was a learning experience, and custom alignment is my go-to suspension shop from now on. The feeling of getting on 101N after leaving the shop was a night and day difference. People may say Custom Alignment is expensive, but for perfection, and for doing it right the first time, I say their price is pretty fair! :) Thank you again and again to every one at Custom Alignment! read more
