Great Place!! Polite and friendly staff all around, you really feel welcome going in. The place is light and airy and not once did I feel overwhelmed by chemical smells like a lot of salons make me feel. I have my hair cut and highlighted by Rafael and he is awesome! This is the third time I had it colored and every time I go slightly lighter than the time before. I ask for the change to be subtle and he takes so good notes that he manage to get the color just right each time!! He is great about giving you suggestions ( when asked) but he will stick to what YOU want not like other stylists I had before that just feel they KNOW better. My suggestion is ask for his opinion on color and cut, he really knows hair and is sure to give you an awesome new look or accentuate the one you already have. This review is long overdue! I moved to San diego, dreading the process to find a new hair person and luckily my girlfriend did the work for me! She researched several companies on Yelp and came across Cut with a perfect Yelp score. I was still skeptical because I'm picky, however, when I stepped into Mark Reyes's chair all my worries were put to rest. This guy knows what the hell he is doing! I have been with Mark for a few years now and I can honestly say I have never walked out of there without a perfect haircut! Not only is Mark a perfectionist, but he is super personable and friendly so I really enjoy my trips to the Salon. The rest of the Salon staff seems to be on top of their Sh** too! I always see the same customer faces and it's not like this place isn't busy as hell, so you know others are happy too. I've never really been blown away enough by a particular stylist to stick with them no matter what. I usually have a favorite person I go to, but if they don't happen to be available then I'm not opposed to seeing someone else...until now. I previously went to a salon by my house because it was convenient and affordable. Long story short, I walked away with a horrible, brassy ombre that my stylist couldn't correct because she was on her way out on vacation so I tried to fix it myself with box color. I lived with it for a few months but decided I wanted to love my hair again, not just tolerate it...so I went to July. July came highly recommended by friends and family. They didn't even need to sell me on how good she was. Their hair looked fantastic ALL THE TIME, so her work spoke for itself. She let me know what to expect right outfront, no surprises. Along the way, she explained each step and how it would help to achieve the look I wanted. We talked hair trends, work, and family. I got plenty of tips on how to maintian my new style. By the end of the appointment, I walked away with a look that I absolutely love. The color was spot-on, it blended well, and was the perfect shades of brown and blonde. July was very attentive, took her time, and didn't make me feel rushed. She worked until she thought it was perfect, and nothing less. Why did I ever think to go anywhere else?!? Overall, Cut is a great salon with some fantastic stylists. I brought my two year old son with me to the appointment and they were all super sweet to him despite him running around the place. I'd recommend Cut Hairdressing, and specifically my favorite stylist July, to anyone. You get what you pay for, and you can't ask for better quality than July. I visited cut for the first time in 12/13/14 and was greeted with big smiles and a friendly welcome...very busy salon but yet felt very warm and inviting...Tori a newer stylist did my hair for the first time in the salon...I am older and have lots of grey...she did an asymmetric short cut with a darker root base and Balayaged (new word for me!) dark and light highlights in my hair...it looked fantastic and made me feel and look younger...she had to help me with tips on how to style the more trendy look but I couldn't be happier and I will most definitely be back! read more

I needed some serious help after a failed balayage when I visited a different salon :( After reading reviews on Yelp, I decided to call CUT and try to book a "fix-it" appointment ASAP. Luckily, they had an appointment the very next afternoon! :) My hairstylist was Telima. She is absolutely AMAZING! After showing her my hair, and explaining what I wanted, she was very understanding and talked through the process with me. The way that she spoke with confidence convinced me that she was going to really fix my hair. Throughout the whole appointment, she kept me informed about what she was doing, what products she was using, and gave me tips on how to keep my hair healthy. She is funny, relatable and lighthearted too! I would definitely recommend her for any kind of hair service, but I can tell you that she not only fixed my hair, but really improved it! I already have my next appointment booked! The salon itself is very modern and chic. They give you a type of resistant robe to put over your clothes to protect from color or whatnot. (Huge thumbs up!) They also have complimentary drinks, (coffee, tea, water, etc.) and they are served in glasses and ceramic coffee cups! When you get your hair washed, you also get a nice head and neck massage :) The owner of the salon was there during my appointment, but I feel that is a very good thing, as it shows that he is very involved with the business. After my stylist moved I needed to find someone to do a keratin treatment on my hair. I knew a friend who had it done with her long time stylist so I got Christina's info and tried to schedule a appointment. She was booked but later I was able to get in on a cancelation she had. When I got to my appt. she was surprised to see me and said that I couldn't have an appt. with her. Well I did and she finally realized it. She was not ready for me and didn't know what she was doing on me. She was harsh with handling my hair, pulling on it with her gloves and almost burning me at times with the straighting iron. She told me she didn't usually do these treatments this late and seemed to be rushing. She kindly pointed out that I had many grey hairs. Waiting the 3 days to wash my hair had me anxious as everyday I had to restraighten my hair which is not normal. Then when I finally washed it (waiting an extra 1/2 day) it was the same frizzy, curly hair! I was so disappointed. I've had it done before and it came out straight without any frizz so I knew what to expect. I left on vacation the day I washed it and came back the day before Thanksgiving and then played phone tag with her for 4 days. She said I should have come in right after so she could have looked at my hair. Umm, I'm calling as soon as I can. She blamed my hair, the non-sulfate shampoo I have always used, and said she did not want to waste "our" time to do it again since it would come out the same. $280 down the drain along with the no frizz hair I was promised! After doing some (minor) stalking for a few years, I finally booked an appointment with the famous Mark Reyes from Diesel and Hairlab!!! :::insert cheering here::: I'm quite familiar with Banker's Hill so I was excited when I learned the salon was smack dab in the middle of it. It's really easy to find and there's a lot of street parking. First off, the salon is spacious, really clean and simple with minimal decor! It doesn't need all the STUFF because it has an AMAZING view!!! Wow. Seriously, I wish this were my apartment! Nestled on the corner of 5th and Grape, it has an amazing view of Banker's Hill and Downtown. I have been to SEVERAL hair salons all over San Diego and maybe I'm just picky, but I have yet to find one that I am 100% happy with. Upon meeting Mark, I felt like I was Dorothy and he was the Wizard! An untouchable master: Lord of Hair! I could instantly tell that I was in good hands! Mark immediately offered me something to drink and had me take a seat. I quickly updated him on the fact that I hadn't cut my hair in almost 2 years because I had been growing it out from a terrible Rachel haircut that had been given to me (not by request). It also happened to be my graduation so he played with my locks for a few minutes and threw out a few suggestions. I had complete confidence in him so I said that he could do whatever he felt necessary. We chatted about the usual stuff: family, jobs, crazy nieces, etc. He's hilarious and really easy to carry a conversation with. An amazing shampoo and several snips later, he started to style my hair. He used all these amazing Pureology products which added a lot of volume and lift to my hair, which is difficult to do because my hair is so heavy. Being that it was my graduation, he added extra product and after blow drying each section, he pinned it to set the curl. Once he was done, he took the pins out and I LOVED what I saw. Tons of layers, while still keeping my length. I felt like I had just gotten off a makeover show! I truly loved it! As I was leaving, he handed me some business cards and told me about his referral program. As soon as I got to my car, I sent my B/F a picture of my hair and he LOVED it! I need someone who could cut AND color hair well, and a lot of times, I just find someone who would do one or the other better. So..I came here and I almost didn't want to love my $90 haircut. LOL. It is the most expensive I had ever paid for in my life! I've had the pleasure of having Raphael Alvarez, the owner, as my stylist. Whenever I ask for side swept bangs, almost every stylist would just give me the Rachel look, you know, that look with lots of layers . But Raphael did NOT give me that. He cut more bangs than what I was used to in the front and it framed my round face better. My caramel highlights looked amazing on me too. He was careful with parting my hair on the crown, and I also liked how he didn't give me chunky highlights so the color gave me more dimension while still having that natural look. What people are saying about Raphael is true, he is amazing at what he does! Just watching him is like watching an artist working! If you want to see his work, look him up on youtube and you'll see that he can turn any hair into a masterpiece. He is very passionate about his profession, and you'll sense that right away once you start talking to him. His salon is undeniably gorgeous. He serves wine, water, beer, alcohol while you wait. Parking is not that bad either. There's plenty of meter parking around the building too. When my appointment ran longer than 2 hours, Raphael had even paid for the additional time in my meter!
