Victoria was a FOUNTAIN of knowledge when it came to bike gear. I'm new to bikes but she made everything very easy to understand while she explained why I should or shouldnt get something. I was in the store for an hour or two and I went up to her multiple times to hear her opinion. I never once felt like I was bothering her, she was very approachable and easy to talk to. Sean (I believe, if I find out the name was wrong I will update it) talked my ear off in a good way about bike helmets and told me extensively about the testing each company does when calculating the safety of helmet. Xander made my purchases easy to check out and helped with price matching which I really appreciate because I ended up spending about $1000 to get all my gear. I completely concur with @Quinn O's opinion of this store-terrible customer service and I won't spend another dime at this Kearny Mesa store. I recently bought a scooter, my first 2 wheel vehicle ever so I needed ALL the gear...gloves, helmet, jacket, goggles, who knew that the gear was such a fun part of riding! I have visited this store 4 times in the last thirty days and today was the first time I walked out without buying anything and swore never to return. I was greeted upon entering 1 out of 4 times that I came here. I was asked if I needed help 1 out 4 times, the other three times I had to "interrupt" groups of employees with today being the straw that broke the camel's back when my "interrupting" an employee, who was actually not in a group but solo at the time, with my question about shoes seemed like a big bother. The employee told me that I would need to wait for the guy already helping someone else with their helmet fitting. Exit stage right for me. I initially wasn't going to give any Cycle Gear another dime but Fun Bike Center was closed and I really wanted a visor and boots for a ride today so I drove to the Chula Vista Cycle Gear store and WOW, what a difference. I was greeted immediately and asked if I needed help with anything. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the employee who helped me but he saved Cycle Gear for me. When I need gear in the future, I will drive out of my way to the Chula Vista store or buy it online. read more

Bought a cardo pack duo yesterday on a whim, when I found it on sale at Cycle Gear. However, it turns out to not be that great of a sale since I find it $60 cheaper online. Initially I just found it on Amazon, then many other stores. When I called the 800 number the guy at the main line says Amazon is the scourge of the internet and killing mom and pop shops everywhere... well what does that mean since I am pretty sure Cycle gear does not count as a mom and pop store when you have a full on purchasing department and like 80 stores in a bunch of states?? They won't price match, issue store credit or return the item because they installed it in a helmet (Cardo Pack Talk Bold Duo's) and they are claiming they need to know if the other retailer has more than 5 of them?!?! What kind of price match is that where they need to confirm inventory level of the other retailers? $60 I guess in the grand scheme of things is only 12% so maybe I should just accept the poor pricing? Funny thing is if they issued store credit, I'm looking at $1200 carbon fiber helmet and they would have surely earned that business too. Crazy. So I guess to the Corporate guys point shop at mom and pops and get your gear at GP Cycles, or Forza and skip this chain store. read more

Favorite motorcycle store in San Diego! Okay, so one thing that bugs the hell out of me is that MANY places don't carry an abundance of gear for women and if they do, it's usually ONLY in pink (whyyy). I went on a hunt all day to find some Alpinestars gloves in a size small that were black and white but couldn't find any that were in stock until I came to this store! It was my first time and I was blown away by how much inventory they had for both men and women. There are fittings rooms where you can comfortably see which items of clothing will be best suited to your body type. The staff here are super friendly and helpful. I'm also new to the riding community so a lot of things made me feel intimidated or overwhelmed but this place had a very chill vibe. It was about an hour till closing when I visited on a Wednesday night but everyone was still cheerful (especially the two cashiers I chatted with!). I didn't feel rushed and took my time shopping. The female cashier also went on to give me advice on lowering my motorcycle (I'm pretty short ). I love it here and will definitely be coming back! P.S. I now have both the pink gloves and the black and white ones because I couldn't choose between them. read more

Let's just say that I stopped here immediately after picking up my CA Drivers Handbook and the CA Motorcycle Handbook from the DMV. I want to get my motorcycle license and a motorcycle, and this store came well recommended by some friends. I've never purchased any gear before nor do I or have I ever owned a bike. One of the employees (Justin?) was more than helpful and explained the differences in helmets. I never felt like he was trying to over sell or get me to buy the latest fad. Instead, he helped me find a stylish, DOT and Snell approved, well fitting, name brand helmet. And, even better, when I got home and compared the price with the best I could find online, I saved $110 by buying at Cycle Gear! The same applies for a couple of other basic necessities that I wanted to buy. Their prices were very reasonable, and they have a 10% discount for active duty military (which I am), so even better. Also, if you're shopping here for the first time, pick up a copy of the Motorcycle Handbook at the DMV first - the inside cover is a 20% off coupon on your first purchase at Cycle Gear. The candy store. The wife and I go here often. Being on the street and in the dirt, we always need something. You cant beat this places prices or sales. Just had another great experience at cycle gear in Kearny Mesa. I bought the two pack of the Cardo Bluetooth communicators, and the two young ladies and the bearded gentlemen today have taken amazing care of me. Not only did the ladies install the Cardo on my first helmet, they did it after installing another brand that I did not like. They did it with a smile on their faces. Today, I brought back my second helmet and the young man with the beard installed it without question very quickly and did a great job. Came in here today because I've both gotten my motorcycle license and bought a bike in the last two days. I came in looking for some gear. I was helped by Cameron (If I remember correctly.) Cameron gave me the pros and cons of different types of jackets and materials. He was extremely helpful. This place has a very large selection of....you guessed it......motorcycle gear. They have everything from leather racing suits, jackets, helmets of all kinds, parts and accessories, etc. Behind the counter I also saw some items with names on them. They may be able to order what they don't have. They seem to give a discount to military, police, and fire. How to pick a place to find riding equipment and make sure that I have a spot to have enough selection for me to find what I liked and this was the spot I ended up going to. I am glad that I did because I was able to find what I was looking for same day and with a really short amount of time to shop. they carry all the name brand and quality riding equipment and they are centrally located in San Diego. My brother-in-law made the recommendation for me to come down here and I will also be bringing my wife and other friends whenever they ask my recommendation for a place to pick up riding gear. Horrible customer service. Was ignored for a good 20 minutes. I finally got someone's attn by daring to ask for help. I was in plain sight the entire time and right by the register. I wanted a helmet and accurate size. They were out of the size I needed which was fine. That happens. They didn't offer to order it for me. I then asked if they could suggest an alternate manufacturer and if I could please be sized for accuracy. Another customer came up and was helped while I was being ignored. There was another staff member there 5 feet away doing nothing who also did not offer to help. This is the 2nd time this has happened. Unless you have a dirt bike or street racer, they have 0 interest in you. My experience was a carbon copy of Quinn O so this was not an isolated instance. Won't be back. read more

I've visited Cycle Gear on three different occasions to buy a Street and Steel Scrambler Jacket, Dainese Street Biker Air Shoes, and CRG Hindsight Lane Splitter Bar End Mirrors. Each visit was a pleasant experience. Staff are friendly and very knowledgeable about the products they sell. Each question I had didn't go unanswered. Staff really know their s^%#! Cycle Gear keeps firing on cylinders with the selection and staff (a little engine humor for you there). This location is one of the larger locations here in the San Diego area. They have a massive apparel and helmet selection as well as a pretty rad clearance area if you are looking for a deal or an impulse buy. Even though this location is roughly the size of a grocery store, I have had good luck with the service here. There is always a staff member in or near each department and able to help answer questions and such. They also do a rad "bike night" once a month with a free BBQ, music and a ton of bikes to hang out and ooogle. Get in here! read more

I don't normally write reviews of retail stores like this, but this was an amazing experience! I bought a pair of boots back in February of 2016 (4+ years ago). The outer layer on the leather had started to peel away on both boots. These were waterproof boots so I was a little concerned but figured that there was no way that they were still covered under warranty. They were the Sedichi brand which is Cycle Gear's house brand. I didn't have the receipt anymore so I called the corporate office. They were super helpful and emailed me a copy of my receipt and asked that I bring the boots in to the store. I brought them in and was helped out by some very cool people. They looked at the boots and then invited me to go find a replacement pair. Oddly, the exact same brand and size didn't fit me right so I settled on a different brand. Although these new boots were about $75 more than the retail price I originally paid on the Sedichi's, they just did an even trade and I walked out with a replacement pair. All along the way the staff was very helpful and friendly. I regularly shop at Cycle Gear but I will definitely go out of my way to keep doing so. read more

This is the BIG store. I stop by here often as they have the best clearance racks. Bike parking is easy but car parking can be a hassle. As with all Cycle Gears, there is plenty of selection and the prices are competitive. Watch out for some Bilt products (boots) as they are not up to standard. Most have been fine. I had some great help from a gentleman (I'm terrible with names!) in the helmet department, who helped me pick out a Shoei and gave me some advice on gloves. Seems like a pretty good shop with knowledgeable and mostly helpful staff. Except... I went in to buy a Shoei Neotech II helmet. They only had one left in my size (Medium) and style, and that was the showroom floor helmet. My gut instinct told me to keep looking for a boxed one...if I'm going to drop $700 on a helmet, I want to know it hasn't been dropped on the floor or worn by every greasy head in the city. Ended up getting a boxed helmet from BMW Motorcycles nearby, and so glad that I did since not only was it protected and new, but, in addition to product literature, it had ALLOT of important and valuable accessories for this particular helmet. I feel that if you're going to try and get rid of your floor merchandise, you should be upfront with the customers about what they are or, in this case, are NOT getting, and do business accordingly. read more

Most of us have experienced the day that we walk out to our vehicle (motorcycle in my case) go to turn the key and hear "click, click, click" Damn battery! I had purchased a battery a few years back so I pulled it to take it back for the core charge. I was a little bummed thinking that I had to spend 100 bucks on a new battery. Oh well!! I walked into cycle gear (one of the many times) and walked straight to the parts department in the back. One of the employees greeted me and seemed eager to help. He asked when I had purchased the battery. I told him "a long time ago." I just figured they would sell me a new one. He started looking up my account and I was pleased to find out that I had purchased a battery with a lifetime guarantee. What?! After a few moments on the computer the young gentleman grabbed a new battery from the counter, walked me over to the front register, had the manger sign off on the replacement. Now this all may seem normal to you some but I never asked for a free replacement. I walked in ready to spend money. The staff here took it upon themselves to take of me, took the time to figure out if I had a free replacement. They could have easily have sold me another battery and I would have walked away happy. This is just one occasion that cycle gear has impressed me. I've been buying their gear and used their services for both my bikes. One of the best shops in town!! read more
