I must have hit up this spot at the right time! Men was my fish and wings fried to perfection.The food was not greasy and I must have gotten there right before the oil for the deep fryers were changed.There was no old flavor... like some fried foods get when the oil is older. It was a Saturday morning and I was hungry for some fried food.I saw the Groupon, and took the opportunity to get $10 off of the deal. The food could have used a little more seasoning...but again the freshness of it all was awesome!The ambiance could use some work.Not much room to dine in and the restaurant could have been a little cleaner. I will say that you get a lot of food for the price, in that it is better then Mac's fish and chips. I ordered carryout on a Thursday night, and they had it ready in 20 minutes. I had the D & J combo ($12) and 20 pc buffalo wings ($10). I got the combo with perch, it also came with shrimp, chicken, fries, bread, and the smallest container of slaw i've ever seen. I must say the only thing i ended up enjoying of all these things was the fries and wings. The shrimp was fried in a weird way so that you could say how they laid in the pan, hard to describe, look hard at the pics. The fish had a a sort of crunchy batter that for me was off putting, but my girlfriend liked it. I'm still on the hunt for my supreme fish and chips place. Alas, I am worried nothing will ever compare to my hometown Primo's. But, I will be back here and plan on trying out a different type of fish (they also have whiting, catfish, and walleye). For me its definitely worth another look. Bottom line, you get a lot of okay food for little price. Almost reminds me of a Chinese buffet. read more

I have always received good food from this place, but the last two times! Well, not so much! The fries were cold as Hell and old, but I did not complain! This was my spot! Thee last time is today, I say last time because I will not be going back! I ordered the jumbo shrimp dinner, the crust was harder than crispy chicken gizzards. They actually crumbled in my hand........crumbled in my hand! WTF! My mouth was cut all up in the inside! So, I took the crust off and the actual shrimp was just as hard and over cooked as the crust! I absolutely love the food here! Family owned, the energy is always warm and friendly. Unfortunately, every visit (well over 20) the restaurant is filthy. The tables are dirty, and disarrayed. The trash is usually open, the rugs are folded, and there are so many bugs inside. I've sat in a few times, and I always have to clean my table (or they clean it) and swat away pestering flies. The food is phenomenal. You would never think it was coming from a place that doesn't keep the lobby clean, which is the only reason I continue to come back. You can't deny the deliciousness. I highly recommend this place if your looking for a good fish fry, though everything is good. If they could keep the restaurant clean, it would be a 5 Star from me! read more

Really enjoyed my first experience with this place. Had the Philly with fries and some popcorn chicken. The philly was tasty, although slightly dry. The fries were pretty great and the popcorn chicken was standard popcorn chicken. None of these items stood out as being some of the best of the best, but they were solid all around. My dad was over and had the double cheeseburger and said he really enjoyed it. Prices are pretty fair and I think everything was delivered within 30 minutes of the order being received. That's always nice on a Friday evening. Will definitely order from here again in the future. read more

D&J Fish and Chicken is acceptable for what it is- a tiny street food type restaurant in a not particularly good neighborhood. The restaurant itself is tiny with inadequate seating. There are only four unevenly sized and irregular shaped booths. The booths are left to be cleaned by the patrons and not staff, so they are never completely clean and there is food in all the seats. In addition to the staff, there was a child behind the counter. He seemed to be a family member of the man in charge, and appeared to be around the age of 12, but he was certainly well below working age. The day I was at D&J Fish and Chicken, there was also a young couple who said they ordered a 6-piece fish meal and only received four pieces. Upon complaining to staff, they were told they were given only four pieces instead of six, because the pieces were quite large. In my opinion, that is unacceptable, and I would have demanded a refund. The food itself wasn't anything special, however better than some other places. D&J uses thicker cuts of fish as compared to the super thin fillets found in many other restaurants. The "family" meal that I ordered was supposed to come with fries and bread. A fair amount of fries were included, but only two slices of bread. This restaurant is not worth a trip for the sole purpose of eating there or venturing into its neighborhood, if you are not already familiar with the area. read more

Gizzards are 5 star. I also recommend the 3 wing, 3 piece fish dinner cuz it's a good value and can feed 3 kids or 2 adults. Sometimes when you call to order pick-up they don't answer or they hang up on you. They have also answered just by saying hello and I'm not sure if I've called the right number even though I found the number on Google. That is the only reason I gave four stars. The breading they use here is great. I really liked the gizzards and chicken wings. My friend liked the steak sandwich. The fries were also good. I recommend skipping the lemon pepper. They push it but the food is better without it. Ambience wise it's a hole in the wall but it's clean and the staff are nice. I recommend takeout if you don't like hard plastic booths. read more

Horrible they dont listen to what you order. Then when your order is wrong they dont offer to refund or fix it 16.00 for some food I didnt order when I got home because it took me a hour to get there its fucking rush hour! And that's when I noticed they said there is absolutely nothing they could do after giving me a burnt piece of food to top it off. Keep ur money go to hooks it's right down the street. read more

I've tried to order delivery on 2 different occasions and they said that their delivery driver wasn't there so they couldn't deliver food. Just got my delivery and it was piping hot! I got the fish, shrimp, and chicken combo. I loved it! The fish is breaded with cornmeal, a southern staple, and as a southern woman in Minnesota, this means a lot. Most places use beer batter for EVERY SINGLE DAMN FISH. Cornmeal makes for a light, crispy, not so greasy breading vs greasy thick batter that ruins the flavor of fish. I am so excited to order again and tell my family where they can get their fish fix. D&J's is surprisingly good. From my one experience, the food was delicious. I ordered the foot long Philly Cheese Steak sandwich with fries. They have a very straight-forward menu: burgers, all sorts of sandwiches, chicken wings, fish, fries, and gyros. I haven't had a chance to try their $1.99 desserts, but that will definitely be on my order the next time I visit them. They also deliver, which is a huge plus. Their take-out menu has a few misspellings, but who really cares if they're grammatically incorrect? The food is what's bringing me back. read more
