I'm a regular here... I usually get the Honey Green Tea. If I'm not restricting my diet, I take advantage of the tea time special and get a slice of chestnut cake and a drink for only $4. I love that cake. It's not too sweet at all. I'm a big fan of the curry puff, buo lo bao, and OH YEAH.... their sandwiches. D'ange's sandwiches are underrated, but so amazing. They're only $2, and you get a chicken or tuna, egg&tomato, cucumber sandwich all freshly wrapped in triangle layers of pure joy. Please check this place out. They are truly unique. Wrapping up the last of my wedding reviews with D'Ange bakery! We ordered our wedding cake from here for 200 people and it was delicious! They have a lot of different flavors that aren't offered at other places and their price is much lower than other bakeries. I've also bough their breads and other goods before and those are yummy too. When we started our search for the wedding cake we knew for sure we wanted a Chinese bakery. We don't like overly sweet cake and most of our guests would be Chinese. Chinese bakeries also tend to be more inexpensive than American ones too! We checked out all the other bakeries and the lowest price they could give us was $500. Limited flavors usually of strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, and maybe a few others. We finally ended up here and fell in love with their chestnut and taro cake! We did a tasting with my husband's parents and they approved it too! Better yet, for 200 people D'Ange would only charge $300! Chef Luu was wonderful in helping us out. I gave him a sketch of what we wanted the cake to look like and he took it from there. The only bad thing I can say is that the monogram I asked for didn't turn out as well as I wanted. It was a complicated one though and he made it so that it was legible enough. Other than that the cake was gorgeous and the spray of orchids on the side looked so pretty. We ended up with a three layer square cake with two layers of chestnut and the bottom being taro. It was funny but since chestnut isn't a common flavor most people thought it was red bean! One thing to keep in mind is that the cake slices they have in store are much more delicious than what you'll get for the wedding. The wedding cake itself will be yummy, but the cake itself is much thicker and so less proportion of frosting and filling to cake than a small cake slice. So if you're getting married, get your wedding cake from here! It'll be delicious and you'll save tons of money! read more

It's a small mom and pop shop but they crank out bread and cakes that are way better than the chains out there. They do not use preservatives so that is another plus. So far my favorite is the cream cheese danish, the cream is tangy with a little sweetness to it. My dad like their pineapple bun which says a lot considering he is a chef and a health freak. REVIEW ON ORDERING A CUSTOM CAKE I called this bakery to order a custom 3-tier cake early June. I spoke to Lou (the baker) on the phone and he gave me pricing for the cost of a 6-9-12 inch cake, they are $26,$33, $55, respectively. I stopped by the store since the price was quite reasonable. Mind you, he went out for a smoke, there were no customers at the time I placed the order. This is very important because he will contraindict himself later. I sat down with him and he literally wrote the amount and stated above. We went over the venue location, time of expected delivery, all the information needed. He asked for a $40 deposit for the cake pins. Fine. He also stated that the final payment for the cake needed to be made TWO Days before the event. I arrive on June 21st to make the payment and he states 1) it was HIS MISTAKE that he initially quoted me the 12-inch cake is NOT $55, but it is $80. His excuse was that it was a busy day the day I placed the order. I remembered that day clearly and it was NOT busy. There was a woman, seems like a manager or someone in charge, who did not want to get involved. She stated, she will refund my deposit and WILL NOT proceed with making the cake. ARE YOU SERIOUS? It is 1.5 days away from the event and they decided it's easier to back out of the contract than just honor the price that LOU quoted me. At any American business, they would honor the price, especially if it's quoted incorrectly. Not an Asian store. That's the unfortunate part of doing business with people who are not fluent in english. So we ended up paying the difference because we were crunch for time. Furthermore, at the initial meeting, I brought someone who was fluent in Mandarin. She explained to him how I wanted the exterior of the cake in his native tongue, I sent the inspirational photo to the d'ange bakery email address, and also one of the co-workers took a picture of photo on her phone. Lou said his phone does not accept text messages. Just a warning, if you decide to hire this baker and this bakery to do a custom cake for your big event, I think you should re-think your decision. This merchant deserves negative or 0 stars for their lack of professionalism and unscrupulous business practice. Cake turned out OK, nothing like my inspiration photo. I love a lot of things about this place. First thing is the location: right across the street from my favorite Vietnamese restaurant and just down the street from one of my favorite boba joints. Lots of other restaurants and markets around as well. Second thing is the pricing. The pastries here are quite large and mostly $1-2! Third thing is the selection. They have a good variety of buns/breads/danishes, and there are always some warm ones on display if you want to eat in. Some of my favorites are the pineapple bun, cream cheese danish, banana muffin, taro bun, sesame mochi bun.. the list goes on:) I have also tried the lychee cake and hope to try the taro cake and their cookies soon! If you're into egg tarts, theirs are very tasty and if you're lucky you might just get some right out of the oven! Their generous servings will appeal to the sweet tooth, but they also have options that are not too sweet and even some savory buns. This place is an Asian bakery, similar to the likes of 85c. It's located in a small plaza where parking is nearly impossible to find in the lot. The breads here are OK. Of course each bakery will have their own specialty, but I have yet to find this place's. I like the chicken bun. There is a large selection of sweet and savory breads. So why 3 stars? Well mainly the price. This place is 25-40% more expensive for not much better quality. One bun will easily cost $2. They also charge $0.50 for using credit card for purchases under $20. read more

We came in here this past weekend with sweets on our mind. We also happen to come from lunch, where we had two iced tea cups. Didn't want to leave it out in the car [due to it going bad] so we brought them into the bakery. Without really trying to upset the owner, we noticed the owner judging us since we brought in our cups. She did NOT help us. It was evident when she kept looking at us/rolling her eyes. And didn't even bother to say "How may I help you?" Or "hello." However, when another patron walked in, she said "HI" to them. However, 2 minutes into their conversation, they were having a shouting match with each other. The owner seems like a major Bitch. Come on, what happened to the "CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT?" My family and I love this place. This is our bakery of choice when it comes to birthday cakes now. Our usual is the chocolate cake with fresh strawberries. This was recommended to my mom the first time we ordered cake here and we were pleasantly surprised at how fresh the strawberries were, light and fluffy the cake was, and the just-right sweetness of the entire cake. My mom and brother are not cake people because they are usually way too sweet but my brother actually went back for seconds and my mom complimented the cake! If you're like my family and always end up scraping off the cream on and in the cake (I know, what a waste...), you can request for less cream! We ordered the vanilla cake with mixed fruits and less cream for my brother's birthday today and are excited to try it out tonight! My mom also bought a loaf of white toast when she picked up the cake today and wow is that thing soft and addicting. I think we'll be going back for more tomorrow... Lastly, the service has been phenomenal each time we have visitors the bakery. The lady who helped me with a cake order over phone last September, the lady at the counter yesterday who helped us choose and customize our cake, and (I believe) the head baker were all super friendly and patient. Also received a stamp card with a stamp, pretty cool. 4 Stars Came back here one night, was very persistent on pushing me to buy their food, not unlike a desperate car salesman. THIS REVIEW IS FOR THEIR MACARONS ONLY: I came to D'ange for macarons back in April (came home for spring break) and never had a chance to review it, but felt I should to share my experience. FIRST IMPRESSIONS/PARKING: "wow where is this place," no seriously, where is this place? The location is pretty bad. It may be on Las Tunas, but it's tucked into the side of this small, cramped plaza (next to Whatever Tea Lounge). We actually missed it TWICE before having to u-turn and pull in. We had came around 6pm, but by the time we FOUND the place, it was around 630. Parking in the back was terrible. The lot itself is TINY and is shared amongst several other stores. Luckily, there was a man leaving as we were entering, yet my boyfriend still had trouble pulling in, because the spot itself was small too (mind you, he drives a small Honda). To get out of the car, he actually had to wedge himself out because there was a pole next to our spot, blocking his door. The entire time we were inside the store, he was worried that someone would inadvertently ding his door because the parking was THAT cramped Walking in, the place itself was really nicely furnished. The interior felt very upscale and luxurious, with almost a "Gothic Lolita" theme. There were cakes everywhere along the wall, and a few tables for people to sit at. - SERVICE: It was virtually empty when we came in. In fact, the only other people there were a group of high school looking kids (speaking entirely only in Canto). However, after waiting for a good 5 minutes to be greeted, no such thing happened. There were two workers there (older Asian lady and a younger Asian girl) and both of them did not even welcome us into the store. The older lady seemed preoccupied with talking to the group before us, EVEN THOUGH, they had already been rung up and had all their goodies in hand. It took the group before us a good long while before they FINALLY decided that they were holding up the line by chatting up the owner and should move. I stood by the cash register and waited for the older lady to acknowledge me, and she finally did (a few minutes later, after trying to act like I didn't exist), with an indifferent side glance and a "what do you want to get?" When I told her I wanted macarons, she grabbed a box, and looked around at the store, as if she was bored of serving me and wished there were other customers (rude much?) In fact, she even seemed ANNOYED that I couldn't decide what macarons I wanted (they only had a few flavors left and I was deciding if I really wanted flavors I didn't like, but really it took me less than a minute to pick and there was NO ONE ELSE in the store) I finally got my macarons after my boyfriend was basically shouting at her to let me pick the ones I'd like. Back at the register, she handed off my box to the younger Asian girl (who was more polite), who rung me up, while she walked off without a second glance - MACARONS: They were okay. The flavors themselves were true, but the macarons didn't have the same texture as REAL macarons do. These tasted more squishy (like half melted cookies). They were also a lot smaller than normal macarons I could get at, say Lette in Pasadena. 6 for ~$11 also wasn't necessarily cheap (~$1.85/pc) - OVERALL: Wouldn't come back here again & wouldn't recommend it to my friends because: 1. I know they would be as annoyed as we were with parking and 2. They'd also be as frustrated as we were with the terrible service and indifferent, rude owner (unless apparently you're friends with her and/or speak Cantonese) Save yourself the money, trouble, and hassle and just go to Pasadena instead for macarons (Lette, Euro Pane, Flour + Tea, etc.) and there are also PLENTY of bakeries around the 626 that sell various cakes (Oh My Pan, Kiki's, Paris Baguette). I was so annoyed with the service at D'ange by the end of the night, that I didn't even want to try any of their drinks (despite the multitude of promotions for "happy hour" they had) and left to Factory Tea Bar instead. read more

Urggghhhhh. I came in here, and the first thing I noticed was that the place was empty (it was around 4:00pm.) Okay? I didn't think too much about it. Looked around at the breads and was not impressed. Some of their cakes looked alright, but I wasn't left knocked over thinking, "Woah, I have to try these!" They look like normal, regular slices of cake. Macarons were broken and sort of dry-looking. Ordered their oh-so-famous egg tart for nearly $2.00 for one piece, and ate it--was not impressed by its bland taste and fall-apart texture. The egg was super duper pale, but kudos to them for filling it up with a TON of egg--that's a plus, since most places skimp on the egg and give you a whole lotta crust. Then I noticed that there was a BEE on the breads (that were laying there on the counter in the open.) Watching that little Bee crawl all over the breads made me pretty much lose my appetite. Argh! Based on customer service this place receives 2 stars in my eyes. Based on looks/presentation, this place receives 3 stars in my eyes. Based on the baked goods, this place is 2 starts in my eyes. The place has a good look and presentation (the black box with red ribbon is very eye catching, but you only get the pretty box if you order certain a dozen of egg custard or a dozen pastries). Baked goods are pretty fresh since it's a new bakery and they don't bake a large quantities of baked goods. The rude customer score comes from my order request of 30 egg custards. The owner asked me to wait for 30 mins, I thought, ok no problem. I left and came back about 30 mins later, she yelled at me and said I only left for 10 mins. Once again, I thought, ok, I can wait. 45 mins later, she is barely taking my egg custads out. She hands me 2 dozen egg custards. I told her I ordered 30, she immediately takes the 2 boxes back and tells me "No! You ordered 2 dozen. If you want 6 more you have to pay first!". I went back to my car to bring back all the items I purchased and asked her to reprint my receipt since she did not give me a receipt. Sure enough, only charged me for 2 dozen. There is a disconnect here if you cannot speak Chinese. Will I return or suggest this place to my friends and family? Nope. Most of us ABC kids speak English and there are plenty of other great bakeries out there with fantastic customer service and better baked goods. They accept credit card, but if the amount is under $20, they charge you 50 cents. read more

I came here on Valentine's day to buy a taro cake for my other half. The price was advertised as$30, as I'm about to pay for the cake, the manager comes out and says the cake is $36 because it's a Valentines special. Ok so that got me upset. I explain to the lady that they should honor their price since it was their mistake, but she talks me out of it by giving me 3 free pasteries. So I'm looking over their selections and I'm thinking to myself.. I am crazy for bread. I love eating it for breakfast, snack, and dinner sometimes. I've passed by this bakery so many times but never thought of trying it until a client brought me some to try. I decided to stop by one day after work and I must stay I LOVE THEIR BREAD! Its very soft, very fresh, and very unique in their own way. Their taro bread was the first one I tried and I wished I had brought more. Its not too sweet, perfect with tea and the taro inside was very fresh. Stumbled across this bakery after eating at a Chinese restaurant across the street. D'ange has a great selection of baked breads AND pastries/cakes. They even have specialty drinks. The mango smoothie is the perfect blend of delicious stringy fresh mango, and the hint of artificial pumped up mango taste all blended in a big refreshing cup to go. Got the pineapple bun with taro inside. SUPER yum. Got to try a few other samples on their counter. It's probably in the A-OK range, but overall I enjoyed the breads we bought! read more

The butter danish... Oh, goodness gracious! For $3.50, you can get a huge butter danish that'll last four rounds of snacking or two rounds of breakfast-ing. There's also a variety of other danishes, but really, butter is all you need! Most of the buns and pastries range from $1.50 to $3, and they have everything from the ordinary roasted pork, red bean, and pineapple buns to the more unique/ less Asian blueberry, red velvet, and pumpkin buns. There are also muffins, egg tarts, cake slices... Their spongecake (bigger than the norm, for $2, I believe) is among the fluffiest I've had; the aforementioned butter danish tastes great even after three days on the counter; the Macau-style egg tarts are distinctly creamier than regular ones... Everything here is just soooo good. It also helps that everything is clearly and neatly labeled in English as well as Chinese. They also offer a variety of drinks, including coffees, smoothies, and teas. I've tried the peach green tea, and for about $3, you get a surprisingly large cup with just the right amount of sweetness and chill in the well-prepared tea. The decor and ambiance here are extremely nice for a bakery, too! There are a few tables toward the back of the room, but it doesn't seem that it would ever get too crowded. With mellow Asian music playing in the background, this seems like a good place to relax and read in solitude or catch up and chat with friends. Service is excellent. The first time we went, the lady smiled warmly and described their popular items patiently. She even codeswitched with us, switching from English to Mandarin to Cantonese, which I often take as a sign of friendliness. Last time was two different employees, one of whom seemed to be just learning the ropes of the job. Nonetheless, he got my transaction done in a quick and timely manner, all the while maintaining a (meek) smile on his face. Another great thing about D'ange is its sample platter. By the cash register is a quite-easy-to-miss platter of samples of some of their items; so perhaps try that before making your bun selections! D'ange also does stamp cards. Every time you spend $10 or more, you get a stamp; after the 10th one, you get $10 off your purchase! Of course, this does mean that you'll have to have spent at least $100 on buns and pastries before getting there... But then again, it isn't hard to spend $10 here, if you stock up on buns for the rest of the week like I do. A banner outside of the bakery additionally indicates that you get a free bun with the purchase of a whole cake. Only one warning: parking is sparse! The parking lot behind the mini-plaza allots only a few spaces to each establishment. read more

Bread smells really good!!!! One evening.. I parked on the streets going towards "whatever tea lounge" n when i stepped out of my car.. this strong bread scent lured me into this bakery. My oh my!! This is like a hidden gem to me or something!! This cute little bakery opened a year ago and I never really noticed this bakery even though I passed by las tunas multiple times! Thank god I discovered this bakery!! So this bakery is different from all the other asian bakeries.. They have all sorts of pastries.. such as cheese danishes, raspberry danishes, the Macau egg tart, red velvet spongecakes, birthday cakes (tiramisu, red velvet, AND you can customize them if you like..) and many more.. just not your typical asian bakery.. For me.. I usually determine how good a bakery is by getting their spongecakes.. if you can't even make a simple spongecake perfect then I really don't know what to say.. well.. their spongecake did not disappoint me!! It was very soft, very spongy? and VERY GOOD!!! The cashier was also very nice trying to offer me some samples but i kinda declined because I don't want to end up buying like 20 plus dollars worth of bread and walking into the teahouse next door... I also tried their Macau egg tart because it looked really good inside the glass container.. but the egg tart ended up to be only alright.. not the best.. Liked the flavor of the black sesame but it was not as moist as I would like it to be. The chestnut was ok. Good but nothing special. The Macau tart is very good as well. Gluten intolerance ceases to exist when you come here. For me. I've only had a few things: cream cheese pastry - 10 blueberry pastry - 9 cupcake (I call it fistcake because it's hard not to eat fistfuls of it at one time) - lighter than an angel's wings - 10 coffee - smuggle in your own or something, b/c it's not good at all. still won't affect my perfect rating. this bakery smells like a buttery angel when you walk in. Every year I come and order 2 quarter sheet cakes to celebrate my boss' birthday. The reason why I like D'ange is because they make specialty flavors that I cannot find anywhere else. Upon coming in, the store was quite busy. There was about 5 people in queue yet the cashier was able to remain calm and serve them while attempting to guide me over to the cakes so that I can take a look while they finished up. When it was my turn, they gracefully explained what their offerings were (although I already knew in my head what I wanted to order), but it doesn't hurt to the let the lady do her job once in a while right? :P Anyhow, I placed my order and paid and also set a pickup date and time with them. I was in and out in 15 minutes. CAKES ORDERED: Lychee - 5 STARS. Everyone tried and loved the unique lychee flavored cake. This is a nice cake with lychee fruit in the middle and a set layer of lychee jelly on the top. LYCHEE OVERLOAD, YUMMY! Tiramisu - 4 STARS. Just like what a Tiramisu would taste like. They also added a nice touch and set some strawberries on top which made it a bit refreshing from all the chocolate. This is one of those bakeries where everything LOOKS much better than it tastes. For example, the "cream" inside their cream-puff actually had a rubbery texture! GROSS! What kind of laboratory generated that nonsense? Is that even real food?!! Their apple pie also LOOKED appetizing but, again, this was also window-dressing. Taste was not there. The ONE STAR is only for the nice staff and cute location... but this is NOT a bakery with fresh, high-quality ingredients by any stretch of the imagination! read more

Just moved into the neighborhood n found this little bakery shop. They smell great from the outside n cozy interior inside. Pretty good selections, so far my faves are the choc bun, taro, tuna. Prices are affordable, they offer stamp every $ 10 purchase(u'll get 10 dollar off after 10 stamps). However its cash only if u buy less than $20--i hate this kinda establishment. If you decided to open a business but not willing to pay for CC service. The happy hr is from 2-5 pm, its $4 but cannot be combine towards the $ 10 stamp deal. So many fine prints. Other than that i like it bcuz of proximity from where i live. Looking fwd to try diff kinds of bread. Update: fast forward a year later. Took friends n fam to try their bread. They all liked it. Its better than 85 degrees in my opinion. The staff are mostly nice n helpful. However, lately, there are many things that upset my wife. First- they no longer offer stamps-thats fine! No pressure to hit 10 dollars every purchase. Second: happy hour now is $5- i guess prices have gone up lately. Third- they now charging sales tax for to-go purchases. I dont know u do that for food items. You dont even dirty the place or even the counter. It's to-go. Last- they only make little batch of everything. My wife went in the morning right after they opened at 9 and wanted specific bread, they couldn't sell them because they dont have anymore. Most likely they only make less than 10/ bread. Not very accountable establishment if you have limited option when u just opened. We drove by on our way to dinner, and this place caught my attention. So, after dinner we walked in and I loved it. I often have high expectations of bakeries and few meet my expectations. This place was pleasing for a few reasons: *the selection was quite diverse as most places don't have much of a selection of savory breads or any at all *the service was fantastic; I had to use the restroom and they let me use it even though it seemed to be employee only. Also, I was unsure of what I wanted to buy and they let me sample *the actual bakery was quaint and just so darn cute...it felt like a legit bakery I will travel over a hour in traffic for their tasty goodies and fantastic service.
