A staple of Montgomery. My family has been going to d'road for years and will always recommend it.

This was one of my favorite spots back in the day. I decided to try it out again, now that I'm closer to the capital city. I have been here a couple of times recently and have fallen in love all over again. The food is always hot, fresh and ascetically pleasing with delightfully pleasant flavors. The owner is very present, warm and inviting. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to those I know. read more

Upon first entering the restaurant noticed a sulphur water smell. Kind of like rotten eggs. I walked out and waited for my husband to pay for parking but our only other option wasn't appealing. We decided to give it a try because of the reviews and the warm greeting I received upon first entering the restaurant. I'm so glad that we decided to stay! This is a precious family owned restaurant with the nicest people. The coffee was phenomenal as well as the two homemade hot sauce. The owner came out after beginning to eat our fabulous breakfast and introduced herself and asked if we'd like anything else. She saw me putting more of her homemade veggie salsa on my plate and offered her other special hot sauce made with milk she kept in the fridge. I accepted and so glad I did. She told us that her family is chemical free and her coffee is her favorite and drinks it all day. It was delicious and I had three cups when I usually only have one or two at the most. The decorations are very nice with a comfy with an inviting atmosphere. Very clean and the ladies room was as well. We will stop again upon passing through. Such a great experience. read more

We arrived at this restaurant on a Saturday afternoon after our first choice was closed, and we're so glad it worked out that way. The dining room is open and inviting, and we immediately felt in our element (except the air conditioner seemed to be set on max because it was cold in there!). The server showed us the daily menu on a small whiteboard, and we noticed that at the bottom it said that vegan and vegetarian options were available. We asked about them, and she had the chef come out and talk to us personally. Chef Janett gave us some options, and then whipped up a vegan plate of veggies and a masa-type bun that was delicious. She also presented fried sweet plantains, our favorite Latin dessert. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and getting to meet Chef Janett. I'm so excited that I finally got to come to one of their special menu nights! They do them every Friday and you can find out what's the theme on their social media. We came to their Peruvian night and it was very nice. We had a great time, the owner and chef are so nice. Everything was delicious, my favorite things were the salad and ceviche. My wife and I were in town recently for a meeting she had at the State Court of Appeals. We stopped by this nice little restaurant afterwards, and were very please. I don't recall what we each had for lunch, but we both agreed that our meals were exceptional. There was no wait time for seating, and our meal was delivered to our table quickly after ordering. So we walked in to this place and asked for a menu - the answer that I got already made me a fan of the place before starting our meal! She said "We don't have menus or waiters. I try to keep it as home like as possible. When you go to your moms kitchen, she doesn't give you a menu, she tells you what she can make and makes what you pick, same here, today I have crazy eggs, omelette and...(something else that I don't remember)". I took her suggestion and ordered the crazy eggs. She added chicken and made it spicy like we wanted! Expertly presented and deliciously made. They have pickled peppers and other veggies in mason jars at every table for garnishing and they were fresh and delish! The location was great, right in downtown and there were parking spots (paid on weekdays) right in front. The ambience was lively (I believe they remodeled some other business into a restaurant - they were pretty creative and made a very interesting decor) and the price was right! We only had 2 hours to spend in this town but we were extremely pleased we spent one of those eating here! read more

You can choose anywhere you want to sit, then you go up to the bar and order a plate. I got the lunch plate, and because I'm vegetarian, they let me have some of each non-meat side they had. My favorite was the sweet potato noodles. They were seasoned perfectly! I couldn't even tell they were potatoes. my fiance had breakfast. He ordered a veggie omelet. The inside was really good but the outside was overcooked in our opinion. If you like your omelet more like a golden crust then you'll love it. That's the only reason we're giving them 4 stars and not five. The tea comes with the lunch and was tasty as well. Not overly sweet like sweet tea can be. Lunch also includes dessert! It was a bread-like cake with some kind of fruity sauce, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce! The staff were very quick to serve us as well. Great option if you are vegetarian or vegan and need a quick eat. read more

Say you're from Latin America looking for good food in Montgomery. You'll be shit out of luck for the most part, until you come to D'Road Cafe. The place is small in a large strip mall. The owner/operator is a really nice woman who comes around and takes your order by listing off what she has in the kitchen and allowing you to pick one. I can see why yelpers are so taken with this place. The owner is social and outgoing, taking time to chat up the patrons and coo at the babies. I told her to surprise me and she picked the pulled pork. The food definitely has that home-cooked feel but alas, did not produce a foodgasm. For those more interested in quantity, you'd be disappointed as the guy I was with kept talking about eating another meal after we left. The biggest thumbs-down aspect of this place is that there is NO A/C. New England with no A/C... I can see that. ALABAMA in the blazing heat of summer with no A/C?? It's borderline some sort of human rights violation. The bathroom is even more of a steam pot. We left with sweaty armpits and an uncomfortable layer of sweat on our upper lips. Trust me, am Chinese, I totally understand being environmentally conscience and wanting to save on the utilities bill and all, but under these circumstances, not providing A/C is simply not reasonable. read more

I can't say enough good things about this experience except that I will be back....and often. The owner was the SWEETEST woman I have ever met. It's a family style dining concept featuring made from scratch Venezuelan cuisine and she occasionally does a global day featuring cuisine from across the continent. I couldn't decide what I wanted as I stood looking over the buffet style arrangement so she politely says "Here I will put a little extra on your plate. Just make sure you eat it all mi amore." Then I got to speaking to her about the allepas they serve . It's like a Mexican Gordita.....it's made of corn meal or matza. It's an extremely hard to find dish in these parts. She explained to me the difference between the Mexican corn meal and Venezuelan corn meal and said "Wait 5 minutes mi amore and momma will make you one. What do you like in it?" I said "Hook it up momma! I trust you." She brought me out not 1 but 2 different LOADED allepas. This is a genuinely good person that has TOP NOTCH food. I felt like I was at a relatives house. This was my first visit to D'Road Cafe in its current location. Initially I was disappointed to learn that Friday night is "International Night," consequently the Venezuelan / Latin American food that I expected was not available. But I suspected that I was in good hands, and I was right. The theme was Greek and the food and service were excellent. First course was a delightful chopped cucumber salad with feta cheese. Next was an appetizer with thin-sliced summer squash, red bell pepper, eggplant, topped with pieces of lobster in a light sauce with herbs and tiny slices of onion. The taste and presentation was first-rate. Next was the main course: Generous amounts of lamb, beef steak and chicken served atop two large pieces of pita. The dish also included a small amount of hummus, two falafels and a large slice of lightly fried queso fresco. To conclude the meal was a small flaked pastry with a drizzle of honey and filled with a hevenly coconut cream. D'Road is a small, unpretentious restaurant but the chef, Ms. Malpartida, is a talented and creative chef. Her establishment provides a great value in a friendly, welcoming environment. read more

We stopped here while we were in town. My husband got the french toast and I got empanadas. He said the French toast was good and he got the fresh squeezed pineapple juice which he said was amazing. My food was ok, the empanada was mostly dough, very little meat. The taste was ok, my neighbor makes way better. And their sweet tea was not sweet tea at all. They actually should explain that when you order. When asked what was wrong with the tea and I told her it didn't taste right, and that was being nice, she said they use lime and natural sweetener because sugar is blah and bad for you. Well if I had known that I would have skipped it all together. Then she asked if I tasted the sauce that came with my food, I told her yes and she stood there for a minute like she was waiting for me to rave about it. It too was ok, nothing special. Then as we were leaving I had to use the bathroom. All I could say is OMG it look like a prison bathroom right down to the toilet, there was some kind of plastic molding on the toilet to made it taller and it was gross and dirty !!
