I had a washer and dryer that was moved by a moving company. When they moved it back into place they struggled with hooking things back up so I called D1 appliance repair. called on a Monday and made an appointment for my dryer, they schedule me for Wednesday between 8 and twelve on Wednesday I get a text message that they pushed me back to between 12 and 4. I called and said I couldn't do the afternoon. they then scheduled me for tuuts between 12 and 4, Derek showed up out his ear to the dryer and said he didn't have the part to fix it. he charged me 123.00 as a deposit. they then scheduled me for the following Wednesday between 12 and 4, at 11 they called and said Derek couldn't make it and he couldn't get to me till the following week. I canceled them and found another company. contacted D1 and told them I wanted a refund, Derek said they don't give refunds and that he showed up. he was there for about 2 minutes. don't waste your time with this company, I lost out on three days work. read more

BEWARE when hiring this company. We called D1 to fix our refrigerator. Refrigerator and Ice Maker were not working. Freezer was fine. They sent a Tech out that had no clue what he was doing. After about an hour the owner shows up carrying a part. Not in a box but in his hand, not sure it was even a new part. He helped Tech put it in the refrigerator. After another 2 hours Tech tells us it should start cooling. Woke up next morning the power to the refrigerator was off. Refrigerator kept kicking the breaker off. Now we have no refrigerator, freezer or Icemaker. This was all on a Thursday. When I called Friday morning they said they could send someone on Tuesday. I told them we shouldnt have to wait they should send someone thay day they agreed they would. We sat and waited and late afternoon the owner calls and says tech got a flat and cant come. Now we are without a refrigerator. I ask the owner why he would send an inexperienced Tech to work on my refrigerator and he said that is how his techs learn. Really???? Decided to go on his website and check reviews (lesson learned should have done before we hired him) horrible reviews. I called and cancelled further service, Decided I did not want them back to try and fix issue. The owner did say he would come and try to fix it himself but we declined the offer even though we paid them $448.75. We called out another repair company who told us immediately that the wrong part was put in and the way it was hooked up was flipping the breaker. They ordered us the correct part and fixed our refrigerator. Needless to say we would not recommend D1 for future service. read more

scheduled an appointment for the morning, then they called to come in the evening. we had a death in the family and couldn't do the evening. scheduled for another day, supposed to come from 12-4. showed up at 3:30, the technition put his ear to the door of the dryer and said it's the heating element. literally in our home for less than 3 minutes!! then didn't have the part, schedule for a week later, husband took another day off. then they canceled yet again! mind you we have been without a dryer for two weeks now! told them we don't want to reschedule and wanted our deposit back. they refused. I have never written a bad review, but this company was so unprofessional and unapologetic that I felt compelled to. Between three no-shows, confusion over appointment times, which they scheduled, and showing up late with no courtesy call, I was completely appalled. Both my girlfriend and I had to take separate half days on multiple occasions for them to not show up. When this was brought to their attention, they were completely unapologetic and felt it unnecessary to rectify this issue. They did make sure we got charged the visit though, which they refused to refund. They were completely dismissive of our concerns and at end of the day we cancelled our fifth attempt to have them come out here, after going almost a week without a refrigerator! This company should be ashamed of its lack of professionalism and unreliability . Derek came out to fix and replace an ignitor on a range. After paying $366.24 for the repair, he refuses to provide the part number to us because "the component is a proprietary part supplied directly by the manufacturer, and under our service agreement to them, we are not authorized to disclose specific part numbers." I have never heard of this, and this is extremely frustrating to pay such a large amount of money for to not get the part number to add to our maintenance receipts. I had a broken ice maker I needed to be repaired so o scheduled an appointment in the 12-4 slot. Around 3:30pm I received a text indicating that the repairman would still be a few hours because a job was taking longer than expected. I understood, these things happen. I had family coming over later that afternoon/evening so I had to reschedule. I sent back a text requesting a new appointment... after an hour or so I had not heard back from anyone so I called.. no answer. An hour later I sent another text trying to verify that my text was received.. still no reply. It's now been three days and still no reply. IMO this is not a reliable business. There are many more businesses out there who are capable of politely returning a text. I guess some have forgotten what quality service looks like... It's starts with just being kind and considerate. If returning a text is too much to ask, then I do not want them anywhere near my appliances or home. read more

DO NOT USE!!! This company is extremely unprofessional. They do not show up for their scheduled appointment, don't reach out to their customers when they're going to be late (or in this case, not show at all), and decides it's ok to blow off the customer completely by not responding. We had service on our dryer scheduled between 12-4pm yesterday. The time frame came and went, no tech. I reached out at 4:05pm (via text as was told to only reply via text). I was told they were running really far behind. I asked what time they would be here. No response. An hour later I was told they were stuck in Munster and would not be able to make it out to Valpo, but they could make arrangements to come the next day (today). I told them we had rearranged our schedules to be available and would also rearrange our evening schedule for them to still be able to come. I said I realized it was after hours for them, but they also need to keep their word and realize their customers made arrangements to be available for their 4-hour time window. We were willing to be available the rest of the night if needed, but we never received a response. I told him how frustrated I was by this experience and asked what time he would be to our house the next day (today). No response. My husband then called this morning, and he was told "It would be in the best interest of us both for us to find someone else to come out." This wouldn't be a problem if dryer appliance repair men were readily available, but now we have to wait two more days before someone can come out because their schedules are full, and this guy screwed us over. Called D1 Appliance Repair to come out and troubleshoot a non-functioning ice maker on a 3 year old Frigidaire fridge. The tech came out three times to fix the issue. With each visit the issue changed (pump, then ice maker itself and filter, then motherboard), which each visit and each new issue, the job became increasingly more expensive. On the 3rd visit the tech that came out had to call his boss to come out because he was unable to troubleshoot the issue. Told them I did not want to give them a 4th chance to repair the fridge. D1 refused to refund what I prepaid on parts and repair, nor the $99.99 I paid for the initial inspection. They claimed these were non-refundable. If you hire these guys, pray they can make the repair, because they definitely won't give you your money back to hire someone who actually can, and plan for a couple weeks on the repair and being on call for repeat trips to your house to get it right. read more

Also what's even more sad and I didn't know it when I called them is that there is a level of immaturity with Derek that he exhibited with me and can be seen in his responses to negative reviews. He will rebuttal mine and say I was difficult. I was not at all difficult I have the text to prove it. If I could give zero stars I would. This is the worst service ever!!! They sent a tech that took 2 hours to diagnose. We ordered the part and I had to wait a week to get it. He comes puts the part on and says it still isn't working I don't know what's wrong with it. He essentially misdiagnosed. D1 then schedules a time to come out, cancels, reschedules, cancels and then is 3 hours late. Derek gets here and says it's the mother board and that is very expensive. I said ok but I'm going to have someone else fix it I have lost confidence. After all I had been through with this company, all the while I was being very understanding. He had the audacity to get an attitude, become very immature and unprofessional. He is a business owner and doesn't have the emotional intelligence to deal with his company not doing a good job. So they were pretty quick on scheduling and were here when they said they were going to be here ..the only reason I didn't give them a perfect rating is because they noted that the vent from my dryer to the wall was too long and crinkling and said they said they were gonna leave my dryer pulled out for airflow. This guy is totally unreliable and unresponsive. My wife was referred to him by someone that we went to church with, so we thought we'd be getting a reputable repair service from D1. The first time he was scheduled to come out he called and indicated that he couldn't make it because he had a family emergency with his daughter, but that he would come the following Monday. He called on Monday and said that he couldn't make it again and asked if he could reschedule for Friday and because of the inconvenience he would give us any parts required at his cost. Our window was from 12p - 4p on Friday afternoon. As of 5p on Friday, still a no-show, no-call, no-text. I just called him and left a voicemail telling him he wasn't welcome at our home to conduct the repair. This guy strung us along indicating he would perform the repair for over a week. Meanwhile, we haven't been able to dry our clothes. Now we have to find a reputable repair service and probably wait another week+ to get service scheduled. Morgan from D-1 was great. She fixed me up with an appointment 3 days later and the $79 would be applied to my repair. Jay showed up. Broken fan belt on my dryer. Fixed it in an hour, $168. He also lied to us about when he will come for the service. Always says he will be there and never shows up. Then when I asked why he doesn't show up or call to let us know he is running late or needs to reschedule, he wanted to argue with us that we were renters and we don't even own the place. The issue and model number were described to the tech over the phone. I was having an issue with my freezer being cold but fridge being warm. This is a common problem with this GE model I own. 1st issue .Poor communication. They kept calling my wife instead of myself even tho I gave them my number twice. My wife works days so she cannot be reached. So they show up the day of unannounced. Second the guy did not have a mask on when he came in my house and was not very professional. Derick came in opened my freezer automatically knew the problem, went to "check " for the part in his Jeep, mind you the guy said he worked for GE so he must know the fix even before he comes over. Came back said he didn't have the $15 part, and still charged me $103 for 8 min. I called back to cancel and get partial refund for the visit. I did this because I felt I was being overcharged for just a visit with no part or tools in hand. The tech called me back and started to argue with me. He kept talking over me. He didn't want to hear me out.. Finally I asked, why he didn't bring this part knowing this could be an issue. He said he didn't have room in his ''Jeep'' for this small heating element. This is the most common fix for this issue.. They don't bring parts cause either way if you cancel they still have your $103 for no work done. . When you first call them to get a quote they say its $79 to come out . They don't tell you till after they get to your location its another $23 ... Then $380 for the rest of the job. . All that for them to put on a $15 dollar part labor 10 min. I understand that they have to make profit. I get it. I myself am a tech for an electronics company. We don't even charge that much. This was just a waist of money. Google a better company . plenty out there. Or DIY. Most techs bring the proper parts for possible fix. Especially if we told him the problem at the beginning . . If the office would have communicated this to the tech, I would have saved the house call because when I told the tech when he arrived, he said you need a new washer - before he even touched the appliance. Had an issue with my kenmore refrigerator. Had it a while but in great condition. Started acting up. Figured if I could fix it for a certain price I'd take that route. D1 came out, diagnosed it quick. He text me a quote and told me he could have the part in a couple days. We set the appointment for Thursday. I received a text that morning stating he might have to change it to Friday which was not going to work for me at all. Derek ran into an emergency and was hoping to reschedule but it wasn't going to work for me. I wasn't happy at all. I then started to read some yelp reviews. I literally started to hunt the part down myself to install it! I found the part and could next day it. Then I noticed Derek was charging me the same price I could get it for, not marking it up. It quickly changed my opinion, said I'd wait for him to see what's up. He showed up later, making time to install the part! Quick, efficient and worked like a charm. I almost made a mistake by trusting the rude Yelp posts vs giving the man a chance! Glad I did. The washing machine is not completely fixed. One cycle still isn't working.

Had a 3 year old Kenmore refrigerator, that wouldn't cool in main compartment. Inside door panel was hot to the touch. Evaporator fan worked but was a little slower than usual. Made an appointment with D1 to resolve issue. Service call cost me $100 and diagnosis of evaporator fan and damper, in need of replacement. Both parts were supposedly ordered and placed on back order, until further notice. Told order would arrive within 10 business days. After 10 days, I texted and called to no avail. Never heard back. Also tried calling owner, Derek. Once again, NO COMMUNICATION. If a business expects to stay afloat, communication and interpersonal skills are essential and necessary. Finally, heard back from owner almost six weeks after diagnosis, after posting a review. Told parts were never ordered and service man was fired. Very poor communication. Lesson learned: Don't waste your time and money on servicing appliances. Replace and buy new. read more

The first repairman did not wear a mask. My elderly parents were very upset. The second repairman was unprofessional. He watched a YouTube video of how to do his job then stripped the screw on the refrigerator and claimed it was a manufacturer issue. We waited all morning for him for the 8-12 interval and he showed up at 1:20pm causing us to miss afternoon plans. After all of that and 3 visits by 2 repair men, he said he could not fix our problem (the ice maker). Very disappointed. read more

We recently moved to Crown Point, IN. and discovered the washing machine in our new home was not working. We hired Derek at D1 Appliance repair to fix a busted valve on our Maytag 2000 series front loading washing machine after I troubleshot the unit. The unit was displaying an "LF" error after running a load of wash for approximately 10-20 minutes then draining. I took a look on line and found that this is due to the intake valves and hoses for the machine. After self-checking an unable to resolve it ourselves, we hired D1. The first time Derek visited our home (during the pandemic) my wife had to specifically request that he wear a mask while in our home which he did reluctantly. He diagnosed the problem within a few minutes and called me as I was not at home. He told me the cost of repairs and parts and I agreed to this. We scheduled a follow-up to install the replacement valve. That being said, my wife mentioned that Derek had a real attitude problem. I didn't think much of it as maybe he was having a bad day. A week later, Derek came to install the valve. He walked through our front door without a mask (once again). I let this slide as I really had not met Derek formally the first time and thought I'd give him the benefit of the doubt first. He replaced the valve and told me it was fixed. I inspected the unit, only to discover the dial knob on the machine was missing. Derek claimed it was missing when he arrived but I never noticed this myself. I told him I need to confirm the machine is working and he gave me attitude, claiming he had "12 other calls to attend to". I said that doesn't concern me as I can't pay for the service until I have verified that the machine is functional. I also asked if he was going to replace the knob which he said he could do but would have to charge me for. Frustrated with Derek's attitude and general demeanor (he several times slammed the washing machine door with excessive force when he was troubleshooting). It was through this I realized that this was not a typical house call for a maintenance repair technician. In my 13+ years as a home owner, I have never experienced such a display of attitude and lack of concern for the client's satisfaction. This drove me to raise my voice to Derek, of which I feel bad about but I must say I can't understand how someone can enter a home as a stranger with such an attitude and expect a positive reaction. Derek told me if I didn't pay today, he would remove the valve. I said I was going to report him to his superiors to which he reacted saying "I am the owner." Thus, we were up against a rock in a hard place and being pressured to pay without confirming the device was indeed repaired. I went ahead and paid just to get him out of my house as he had angered me so much I just felt the best course of action was to get him out and deal with this in a yelp and BBB review. I have never in my life experienced such a total lack of respect for other people's property and customer service. It saddens me that this is how someone treats their customer who reaches out for help, more than willing to pay for service. I just hope this person takes this as a lesson in better customer service in the future and steers his ship toward a better future. I feel bad for any potential, unknowing customers to have to go through such a horrible experience themselves. read more
