Wtf they gave me multiple slice of used lemons. And all the greenery are smash up to pieces. It's like they took all the left over from a table and put it into my to go order. Wtfffff!!!!

It has been almost 18 years or so since I tried this spot last. The interior and exterior looks like it's been frozen in time. Not completely a bad thing but this place can benefit from a light refresh. Parking can be challenging and on this particular day, it looked like the wild Wild West out front. Patrons were parked on sidewalks and "made up" parking spots lol. We luckily found parking across the street pretty easily. There was plenty of seating for our party of 5 and a baby. We dined in the day after lunar new year so it may have been busier than a normal Wednesday lunch. The gentleman who took our order was efficient and informative. We asked about combining different style noodles in one bowl etc. He was quick to take our orders and the food was delivered shortly after. The accompanying herbs of Chinese celery, quick blanched (your choice of fresh or blanched) bean sprouts, sliced jalapeños and lemon wedges were abundant. Overflowing off the plate really. I appreciate a mountain of herbs and greens to accompany my noodle soups. The shrimp in the soup were ginormous and the protein was plentiful. The broth is flavorful and clean. Besides lemon and herbs I did not add any other condiments. For an average of $16-$18 per bowl, you are getting an exceptional value.

This is one of the OG Vietnamese restaurants in downtown San Jose. My go-to for chicken pho is Pho Tau Bay on Senter, but I hadn't been to DaLat in 20+ years and decided to give it a go. Chef may have been a touch heavy with the MSG, but the broth was clean and strong, and the chicken breast was plentiful. Lots of fresh basil to add to the bowl as I went. Washed it down with a refreshing so da chanh (homemade lemon soda). The place wasn't particularly busy on a late Monday afternoon; but the customers at the two other tables were all Vietnamese, which I took as a good sign. Probably won't rush back, but I was glad to see them still in business.

Best broth, always fresh veggies and prawns. Over the years the noodle soup is consistently high quality, no skimping on freshness and taste.

The dry hu tieu with a combo of wide white noodle and thin yellow noodle. Tons of different meat with two large prawns!

This place has been around forever and their food is still consistent, tasty and good service. The staff is much more friendly and easy going compared to a decade ago. They don't skimp on portion and give more than most restaurants! I ordered a small dry noodle (Hu Tieu) with a mixture of white wide noodle and the thin yellow noodle and it was full to the rim of the bowl. There were a lot of diff types of meat and two huge prawns! When we asked for a side of fried pork fat they gave us a full small bowl not even in a small dipping plate like most places would. My hubby ordered a large clear noodle soup and he could barely finish cuz the portion was huge! It's a hole in the wall type of place and not fancy, but you get more than you pay for and food is delish! I go here every time I crave for dry hu tieu.

This place has been around since the late 70s definitely a "hole in the wall" with lots of flavor. The décor hasn't changed much over the decades, but you're not here for the ambiance, you're here for the food. Prices are about 15-20% lower than most other Vietnamese spots, especially the newer, trendier ones. It's the kind of place your grandparents would love, and the loyal, older crowd reflects that. They specialize in river prawn with rice or clear noodles, but the menu has plenty of classic Vietnamese comfort dishes. Portions are generous, flavors are bold, and yes, there's MSG but in the best way. Come hungry, and come for the food.

3.5 rating. They were very nice. We got there around 12:45 pm. Lunch crowd was leaving. Parking was half a block away. Had to go around the block. Their noodles were clear noodles and I do like it. The shrimps were big. Chicken slices were a bit dry. Lots of bean sprouts and their greens was different. My eating mate had the chicken mushroom with mixed veggies. Veggies were good (bok choy, broccoli cabbage). I didn't see much mushroom. The chicken slices was same as mine. The chicken seemed very dry. Tea was $1 per person. You order at the table and pay up front. Prices was good.

I've been coming here ever since I was a kid and this place still holds a good place in my heart and tummy! My go-to is the combination tapioca noodles but the dry version with the soup on the side. One ordering. Don't forget to ask for an extra serving of special sauce and crispy pork fat. It's decadent but obviously delicious.. Their Vietnamese iced coffee is also one of my favorites in town and I get it every time as well. Highly recommend this local joint and don't be deterred from it's surroundings! It's in the sorta the cuts, but well worth it. At least for me (:

Combo clear noodle, dry style with soup on the side!

Great noodle spot! Had clear noodle combo there over 6x last 3 weeks, delicious foods and quick friendly services!

This place is a childhood favorite of the BF. It's also nostalgic for him since it's one of the places his father would take the family before going on a trip. He hasn't dined here in over 10 years and the parking is still as crappy as he remembered it; its downtown what do you expect. The menu for the most part is very straight forward with the choices and options, we were here for the Hieu Tieu. We came here right when they opened and we were the 2nd table being served while they were putting together a large togo order. Staff was friendly and they accepted credit cards. I ordered the non dry Hieu Tieu with regular noodles and the BF ordered the wet with clear noodles. The prawns were huge, portions were generous even for the small size, broth was flavorful, meat wasn't dry tasting, and the noodles had a nice chewy bite to them. Both were delicious and even though we ordered the small, there was still leftovers to take with us. Come early to catch a good parking spot.

Portions were very large, and the servers were nice. I actually really loved their egg rolls, huge and crispy!!

    Ask the Community - Da-Lat

    An option for no MSG?

Why? It's been proven that MSG isn't bad for you. It was perpetrated in the 70's by a racist guy who tried to defame Chinese restaurants. Countless studies and even university studies that have found MSG is like salt in terms of toxicity.

Did the business open a second restaurant in Milpitas with the same name?

Yes it used to be but the one in Milpitas location closed down!

Does the hu tieu (dry) come in with sauce on the side besides the soup? I really want to try it but not sure how to order it or eat it! Tips are appreciated! lol

They put the sauce in the bowl.. I usually ask for extra on the side cause I like it saucy! Dry style is the way to go with big noodles

The atmosphere of SJ Eggrolls is casual, with a huge TV playing sports and minimal decor. The food arrived soon after I ordered. Their signature net egg rolls are phenomenal. I am obsessed with the crunchy net wrapping - it was the perfect crispy texture. The filling of pork and shrimp was savory and delicious. It paired well with lettuce, mint, pickled carrots, and a sweet chili sauce. I loved the spring rolls as well. They tasted super fresh and had a variety of fillings. The Chinese sausage spring roll was my absolute favorite. The salty sausage contrasted well against the clean, fresh vegetables. Every dish was a very good price. I arrived about 10 minutes prior to my estimated pickup time and the egg rolls (netted and regular) were ready but the Banh Khot were still being cooked. The estimated pickup time on the website was pretty accurate. Everything made the 35 minute journey and stayed crispy!! The regular egg rolls were tasty but nothing special. The netted egg rolls however, I'd come back for. They were crispy all throughout and the filling was well seasoned. The Banh Khot were very crispy with a nice and pleasant chew from the coconut batter. My husband loved the flavor and texture. I wasn't a huge fan of the coconut flavor being so prominent but I know that's a staple of Banh Khot batter. Next time I'd skip the regular egg rolls but I'm happy I tried them!

Despite it being in a big lot, parking still took a while to find. Thankfully, we had thankfully just beat the lunch rush and not had to wait longer than 10 minutes for a table. My friend and I shared a Northern spread (Bun Cha Ha Noi) and a Southern style Goat Curry (Banh Mi Cari De). Service was definitely on the slower side that day, but thankfully we were proactive at getting the orders in. The Bun Cha Ha Noi was delicious - pretty much a DIY spring roll - all the fun, all the mess, with none of the clean up other than licking the plates clean. The pork belly was delicious; I was surprised how much I liked it, since I'm not a fan of pork. I devoured numerous rolls, and we also had some extra vermicelli to finish off the rest of the protein. This single meal was definitely more than enough for two! The Banh Mi Cari De (goat curry) was unfortunately quite the opposite. The goat was cooked very well - tough, gamy, and difficult to eat. There were probably six pieces in total, our first was tender, our second had bone, a little harder to chew, and the last was best compared to rubber. The curry was a bit watery, which made the banh mi soggy when dipped in. This was probably an adventurous try, but not a dish I'd ever consider ordering again.

If you can't find parking in that plaza, there's more parking across the road where the Target is. After spending about ten minutes on the written wait-list, our names were called. It's definitely a little easier communicating with much of the staff if you speak Vietnamese, and I find that waiting right outside the restaurant is best because they default to calling your name from the door once it's your turn. The interior is crammed with tables; the atmosphere feels busy and warm. There is a single room women's bathroom and men's bathroom in the back as well. The decor leans toward being classic more than trendy, which I liked. The menu is pretty big, offering a variety of items ranging from mainstream Vietnamese options to ones I don't encounter as often. I recommend eating family-style for many of these dishes, including the Bún Chả Cá Lã Vọng, which I enjoyed with my partner. The prices are pretty average, and their portions are generous. That said, they are cash or Zelle only. There is an ATM that you can use if you forget to bring cash, but this is still something to keep in mind. Overall, I can definitely see myself coming back. I wish I had the stomach capacity to try more of their dishes at once, and I 100% recommend that anyone give this place a shot.

The appetizers were all good and definitely satisfied my craving for Hue-style snacks. Unfortunately, the Bun Bo Hue was disappointing. The broth had a strange flavor and was missing the rich, hearty depth that makes Bun Bo Hue so comforting and memorable. I honestly found it surprising that a restaurant specializing in Hue cuisine would miss the mark on one of its most iconic dishes. Another thing I noticed was that the vermicelli noodles were broken into many small pieces, which made me feel like they weren't particularly fresh. It definitely affected the overall eating experience. Before leaving, I also ordered a banh canh to go. That ended up being really good, though I personally wasn't a fan of the fresh-cut noodles. By the time I got home, they had expanded quite a bit in the broth and became softer than I prefer. Overall, I enjoyed everything except the Bun Bo Hue. The appetizers were solid, the banh canh was tasty, and I'd come back for those items. However, the Bun Bo Hue is one dish I probably won't order again.

The standout dish was the egg rolls. They arrived hot, golden brown, and perfectly crisp, with a satisfying crunch and a flavorful filling that made them the best part of the meal. The food, however, wasn't the reason for my rating. The restaurant's cleanliness left me concerned. I noticed cobwebs that appeared to have been hanging in place for a long time, along with dirt and grime collecting in corners throughout the dining room. Even the menus felt sticky, with a visible film of grease and small food particles still clinging to them. The faded print and worn condition made them look as though they hadn't been replaced in years. Those details created an impression of neglect that made it difficult to relax and enjoy the meal. With a thorough deep cleaning and some updated menus, this restaurant could create a much more welcoming dining experience. Until then, the cleanliness issues overshadow what was otherwise an average meal.
