My friend and I wandered into this restaurant because we didn't want to wait in the long lines in front of Paramount Theater for our concert. Great location for a meal before catching a concert, with great food to boot! I forgot exactly what we ordered (the dishes are shown in the pictures), but I was blown away by the portion size! Honestly, I don't have high hopes for quantity when it comes to restaurants in Downtown Seattle, so you can imagine my surprise when my friend and I couldn't even finish the two entrees we ordered. And on top of that, they gave us a complementary cheesecake! I'm not sure how often they give out these complementary desserts, or why we even received one to be honest, but I'll take it. Note: This review is not for the food, it is for the extremely poor service. The food was relatively decent - we ordered Chicken Tikka and Pakoras as our appetizers and Rogan Josh with Lamb and Vegetable Kofta as our entrees. Sadly, good food almost never makes up for rudeness and poor service. We ordered our meal last night via Postmates for our Diwali dinner. In addition to the four items above, we had also ordered Garlic Naan. The food took longer than estimated to be prepared, but we were okay with that, understanding it would be quite busy on Diwali. Upon arrival, we saw that our garlic naan had not been included, which we had already paid for via Postmates, not the mention the proportional taxes and service fees associated with it. I called the restaurant to see if anything could be done - could they send it over, worst case could we come pick it up? The gentleman who answered the phone was not at all apologetic, nor did he seem surprised that it was excluded/forgotten (I wonder how many other customers were missing items). He simply said "yeah you know it's really busy, just come back next time and we'll give it to you." I almost thought I misheard him. First off, very presumptuous for him to think I was going to "come back" and secondly, how does that solve my current problem? I mentioned to him that we were really looking forward to it for Diwali, and he repeated again how busy they were. Yes, and as a well established restaurant, that is something they should have been prepared for. He kept repeating to come back next time and they'll give it to me then. When I asked, what if we came to pick it up, will it be ready, he hesitated and said "sure if you want, but we're very busy." I also asked if there was anything else he could offer for the inconvenience, considering I had already paid the service and delivery fees to Postmates, and he didn't seem to understand what I meant. He also kept brushing off my inquiries, as if "oh it was only garlic naan" versus had an entrée been missing, he might have cared more. Umm, it shouldn't matter, you're running a business, food shouldn't be ranked in terms of importance and frankly, naan is pretty essential in Indian meals. The icing on the cake was when he cut me off, called to his manger, and then, in Hindi, proceeded to complain about me, roughly translating to "she keeps complaining, I don't know what she wants, can you handle her?" HA just because of my American accent, or rather lack of an Indian accent, you're going to assume my ethnicity? Sorry buddy, I understood allll the rude comments you thought you were saying behind my back. The manager came on the line, I repeated my issue, and he said okay what's your order number and name, I will give you a refund for that item...just as I was halfway through answering his question, he hung up on me. In the end, we submitted a complaint through Postmates and they issued us a credit equivalent to the item price and proportional taxes/fees, but were highly disappointed with the lack of resolution from the restaurant and the incredible rudeness of both gentlemen I spoke with and we will certainly not be returning. read more

The staff here is friendly and they gave the food pretty quickly. The decor was that of a typical white cloth table indian restaurant. We previously tried to order over the phone 45 minutes before closing and they said we just missed the cut off time for food service. It was completely empty on a weekend night. The food was pretty mid as I got a chicken tikka naan roll that had minced chicken in between two pieces of nanna stuck together. The mango lassi was pretty bad and you could tell from the color as it was faint yellow; it was mostly yogurt and it was barely cold and closer to room temp. - I threw it out because it felt like I was drinking room temperature yogurt. read more

Unfortunately the placement of where it is doesn't allow for much visibility or signage so people probably miss it, since its on the corner and neighbors with the convention center! I will say most people say "I have to be in the mood for Indian food", and I very much agree, but if your craving it, this is the spot to come! First the HH menu has food and drinks that's perfect! The tiki masala sauce was on point. Samosas and that sauce with the samosa woahh! We got the vegetarian ones, YUM! Sharing? even better, they have enough to share and In fact the naan alone is a meal, it's huge for 2.25, yup this is crazy! Ingredients were mixed well and the rice and naan were a solid combination. I highly recommend this place whenever you get the chance. I thought the food here was good, not spectacular. Lunch buffet on Friday gets very busy, and the food stays fresh. I wish there was a bit of a better spread (they had pasta salad which easily could have been something else more authentic), but the butter chicken and rice were cooked perfectly. We came here before seeing a show at the Paramount. The Paneer Pakoras are huge, breading is thick, so good for how big the cheese pieces are; wish the Paneer had been tandoori style. But good nonetheless. The Vegetable Samosas are filled with an Indian spiced smashed potatoes and pea mixture, almost mashed potatoes, not chunks like I normally see. Very good, seasoned well. Chicken coconut curry, 3*** had a nice heat and shaved coconut on it. Garlic naan was flavorful, a little buttery, crispy and fluffy. Excellent size too. We'd totally eat here again. Came for the weekday buffet. Not great menu, seems like more american-ised version of indian food. The host and servers are good and friendly. Food was ok-ish, but would have preferred few more options in the buffet. Also veg pakoras tasted like they made pakoras using the same potato masala that goes in samosa. Carrot halwa and kheer were quite good. I have come here for ala-carte which in my opinion was better than their buffet. Will also try their weekend buffet sometime. read more

My girlfriend and I have tried many Indian restaurants, and Dawaat is by far our favorite. We miss the buffets, but now we always order the Chicken Vindiloo, aloe Gobie (a potato, cauliflower, and peas dish), and naan. It ALWAYS comes piping hot because they literally just made it. My guests from San Diego selected Daawat for dinner. For me, a bit noisy place to start with. Corner bar looks amazing with a view of traffic intersection. Customers a bit on chaotic form standing anywhere including next to our dinner table carrying on loud conversations. That for a start is disappointing. Even after bar tender requesting guests to go wait at the front, party conversations continued. Small partition between tables didn't stop loud conversation noise from coming across and taking over our dining space. Except for the interesting bar corner pretty blank walls create the backdrop. Orange is a theme for the place. Probably continued from previous Asian restaurant at this location. Now on to food and drinks. Let's get the drink out of the way first. From the MENU beer LIST we ordered King Fisher. Server tried to be funny with his conversations. Fine. The server in his funny talk indicated that king fisher plant is closed for months. Still beer is listed on the menu. That's how current the emu is! Without going further or giving other Indian beer options, we got delivered Rainer Beer. REALLY? I ban people who bring Rainer beer to my home. Here my guests from San Diego and I got stuck with Rainer beer!!!! Now that's a beautiful start to a dinner evening at Daawat! We ordered mixed tandoori appetizer platter. Really well prepared. A bit heavy on chicken pieces with a small piece of black cod. Good selection. For dinner we ordered chicken tika masala that came with a small portion of rice and, garlic and cranberry naans. Both were good. Yes, dinner items were well prepared. Revived a nice and humble apologetic message from manager Jesse. I rate food quality as four stars. However, with chaotic behavior of guests, restaurant's inability to manage them and beer booboo- three stars is all I can offer today. Will my rating improve in the future? May be. great and surprisingly speedy meal! everytime I go to an indian restaurant I always wrongly assume the portions are small but leave with a full stomach and a whole meal's worth of leftovers - and this was no exception :) we ordered butter marsala and saag palak marsala (both with paneer) and both were so decadent and flavorful, yet never felt heavy or overloaded. the garlic naan was super crispy (and conveniently cut into slightly smaller pieces ). all in all a satisfying meal; looking forward to eating my leftovers tomorrow! read more

Buoyed by the amazing reviews this place has, I find myself at their tables one afternoon. I am quite excited to eat here because two minutes into being seated I can see delicious dishes being delivered to other eager customers. The place feels quite upscale so my brain now expects higher standards of food and service. It's a bit of a wait before someone comes to take my order. Putting that aside, I quickly place order of tandoori chicken wings, butter chicken and naans.. Chile naan, garlic Naan and plain naan.. And also ordered mango chutney as an accompaniment. The only thing that stood out was the naan. Simply on of the finest I have ever eaten. However rest all the entrees were disappointing. The wings were decent and the mango chutney was also weird, cannot explain that taste *rolls eyes* The butter chicken was In my opinion a total train wreck. I had giant chunks of chewy and boiled chicken in it. The gravy was pretty good but the "meat" of it ruined the overall taste. In the real world the chicken is marinated and roasted in a clay oven. Someone cut corners here... Which is why I knocked off one star from this review. How can you run an Indian restaurant and mess up butter chicken! Daawat could use a smiling face at the door, nothing worse than a restaurant that looks perturbed at your arrival. My server forgot to say hi, or welcome me instead he told me to order quickly... quite a strategy. Interior is clean organized and modestly appointed. On the bright side the food was quick and tasty. Curries have a good deal of proteins and almost pungent spices, rice accompaniment was large and warm. Highlight was the garlic naan, about 10inches wide and 16 inches long it's impressive to say the least. A little fluffier and thiker than usual, but quite enjoyable.
