Worst food and experience in years. If you see this, I recommend you also sort and read the other 1- and 2-star reviews because I think those are the most accurate. We placed an online order at 8:45pm. I got there around 9:10pm. Food's not ready yet; no problem. Around 9:30pm, server comes and tells me that the Gajar ka Halwa has nuts mixed in, which we asked to exclude due to allergies. Okay. They insisted I replace it with the Rabdi Gulab Jamun. (These normally have nuts in the recipe too, but maybe this one didn't. Who knows.) Whatever. I get everything around 9:40pm. Somehow everything is room temperature except the hot chai. What'd they do, make all the food and let it sit there for 30 minutes before asking about the Gulab replacement and making the chai? They're also super small portions. Like you know the normal sized to-go containers? They use containers that's about 2/3 of that size. All the food was bland. Super bland. We got everything "Make It Hot (6-10)"--the spiciest option on the menu--and none of it was remotely spicy. Not even Tabasco/Cholula/Sriracha spicy. Not even paprika spicy. Not even a 1 out of 10. Achar chicken. Not even a hint of achar flavor. There were a couple drops of orange-looking oil at the bottom of the container, but that's about it to even hint at any sort of flavor. One piece of chicken was also pink in the middle. Cooked chicken isn't supposed to be pink. Palak paneer. Basically cream of spinach. Like imagine your favorite canned soup brand made a cream of spinach product. Oh, and there were 6 medium-sized pieces of paneer. Six. Really? Shrinkflation hit us THAT hard? The 65. We got cauliflower. It looked red. We were kinda excited. Except when we bit into it. Overbreaded. No taste and no spice. What'd they do, mix in red food coloring instead of actual spices? Because the visual level of red on this anywhere else would've suggested it might've been the level of spicy we asked for... Dynamite. The website markets this as "house spicy curry sauce." I got what looked and tasted like orangeish/pinkish mayo. And somehow it wasn't spicy, despite it being advertised as such (again, did they put food coloring instead of actual spices?). And how they market this seemingly mayo-based sauce as "curry sauce" is beyond me. Rabdi Gulab Jamun. The one we got as a replacement for the Gajar ka Halwa. Somehow, parts of the Gulab Jamun were hard. They're not supposed to be hard! They're supposed to be soft and syrupy and delicious. Nope. Not at all. (Also, didn't like the taste of the rabdi, but I can let that go; sometimes the taste just isn't for us. But the texture of the Gulab being all wrong isn't cool.) Garlic Naan. The texture and taste seemed more like generic flatbread, but at least it did have real garlic on it. Whatever. Didn't really get to try the Masala Dosa. Like I said, the food came room temperature, meaning the dosa was kinda cold, sad, and wiggly by the time we got home. I'll try heating it up in the oven. The chai was fine. Oh. Nothing comes with rice, apparently. I know some places do that, but most of those places tell you things don't come with rice and you need to do a side order. Nothing like that here! You just find that out when you don't have any rice after getting your takeout order and when you're already home. Or you read my review and know to order rice, I guess. Remember to spend another $3 on rice if you want any. Good luck if you end up trying this place anyway after reading my review. I reserved a table for us for 7:00 pm, and they let us sit early when we requested to do so. We had questions about the menu, and our server was great at responding and providing recommendations. It was loud and hard to hear what she said at some points. Overall, our dishes were excellent and filling. However, the food took relatively long (about 30 to 45 minutes) to get to us because it seemed that they prepared their dishes in batches to serve the rest of the customers. The paneer pakora ($9) tasted decent, but the portion size was too small. We had finished it quickly. Instead of ordering an appetizer, I'd recommend getting another à la carte dish to make your dollar more effective here. The chicken tikka masala ($15) tasted really good with a decent amount of meat in the curry. The lamb shank curry ($22) was flavorful and full of spice. However, it eventually got difficult to take the meat out of the bone. It was hard to ask the staff for a knife since they were busy, so I ended up taking it to go. The vegetable biryani ($13) was our favorite dish. It was delicious and the reason why we got even more full. I'd highly recommend ordering a biryani to go with the food here. We then had three orders of garlic naan ($3.5/each). Each order has four pieces. We initially got two orders because the server said that it should've been enough for us. However, we were hungry and asked for one more order. The garlic naan didn't arrive all at the same time. When the second order arrived after several minutes, it was much warmer than the first. The third order came quickly. We parked at Claremont Metrolink Station since it had free parking and walking distance to the restaurant. Found this spot driving by and so glad we stopped. The inside is clean and bright and nicely decorated. The music sets the ambiance. Kash was our waitress and she was so helpful and friendly. She recommended the spice level as medium and it was just the right amount of spice. The goat curry lunch special highlighted some of their best sides and was cooked perfectly! The naan roll was enough to share if you wanted to. The complimentary dessert is really tasty and reminded me of a Mexican type dessert. My review for the food still stands but I'm quite disappointed in how our server MK handled things after I submit this review. She asked us to add a review on yelp to receive a discount on our bill so I did. And after I submit the review below, I saw our bill and had some comments about it. We ordered 2 rice sides, each for 4 dollars. The first rice was half the size of the first one. I asked her why this was and why it's the same price. I explained that if we had just received the right portioned one we wouldn't have needed to order two. And I've been here before and the rice side was large enough for 4 people. She was defensive saying the rice is always portioned out the same, and rule number 1 is never argue with the customer. My experience was valid and she's telling me it isn't basically. Inexperienced server and it shows. I was a server and I know not to do what she did. What also bothered me was that when I ordered the vindaloo with mixed veggies she asked if we wanted it with paneer also and I said oh you do that? She said yes. And the bill showed a 2 dollar up charge for the 3 pieces of paneer they added. That was very shady of her to just slide that in and not tell us it's extra. I hate dishonest shit like that and had I known I wouldn't have opted in for that. I also don't like doing reviews for discounts as it doesn't really promote honest feedback. The chicken is breast meat. The chicken tikka was also flavorful and had a rich vibrant color. This dish was made up of legs and thighs. The samosa was perfectly cooked and what really stood out was their sauces. So good If you haven't tried them yet. It's worth trying. They've only been open six months are are doing well.
