I found out about Dairy Belle when I tried looking for poutine in South Florida. I wasn't very optimistic, I live about as far as you can get in the United States from Canada, but I was pleasantly surprised to find there is ONE place in all of South FL... Except it was still two hours from my house. I was resigned to never being able to go eat there. Until today. And it was awesome. The actual building isn't something flashy and when we first pulled up to it, my mother, who was my traveling companion, looked at me skeptically and asked me if I was sure that was the right place. I was, thankfully, and I was sure about that when I saw a bunch of Quebec license plates in the parking lot. I was lucky enough to get there at a time when it wasn't packed and it was a great experience. You can tell it's a bit of a hang out from the station playing on the PA system, it's french, which isn't something you hear very often in SoFlo so I thought that was a great touch. The associate who greeted me was extremely polite and welcomed me with extra exuberance after I told him that it was my first visit. I ordered a medium traditional poutine to share with my mother (after reading on here that a medium was big enough to share) and two medium mango smoothies. The smoothies were absolutely amazing. They didn't taste like they were filled with sugar, it tasted like they made it with real mango nectar. The poutine itself was delicious, it was everything I'd thought it'd be and more, though I am sad that I didn't get two small ones instead of a medium. If I had, I'd have been able to try the Italian (which the lady who was at the table next to me had and it looked AMAZING). Even so, I loved it and so did my mother, which is something because she's very critical of the food she eats. From the moment she saw the place, she wasn't expecting much from it. The moment she tried the food though, her mind was blown. Overall, the food is great, the place is small and not much to look at but the experience is amazing. The staff are so sweet and polite and the other customers, especially the ones who are regulars and tend to hang out there (As the couple next to me mother and I were), are very nice and friendly. I approached window ordered a large! Lady with brown hair gave me a medium and then proceeded to argue repeatedly how I ordered a medium. Since when does a business argue with the customer when they get the order wrong? The customer is always right. I only order large everything, everywhere. If employee has selective hearing maybe she should not be rude and argumentative and just get what I ordered instead of trying to argue a point that is not valid whatsoever. I used to live in Quebec and I really, really love poutine. Sadly, I haven't lived anywhere that it is available for the last umpteen years, so on my trip to Art Basel Miami Beach this past weekend, I got a room all the way in Fort Lauderdale specifically so I could see if the hype about the poutine at Dairy Belle is justified. No pressure there, then... I was amazed at how good, and authentic, Dairy Belle's poutine is, and I actually had it every day of my trip. The one acid test to determine the quality of poutine involves the cheese. Yes the fries have to be good and the sauce has to be correct, but the most important thing is that the cheese squeaks as you chew it. It may sound strange, but that means it's really fresh. Dairy Belle's poutine is perfect, actually better than a couple that I tried on a trip to Quebec a few months ago. The cheese squeaks, which was not always the case in Quebec. How is that even possible? For me it's nothing short of a miracle. I also recommend their galvaude. When I'm in Quebec I'm always torn between ordering poutine and sandwich hot chicken, another favorite of mine that is even more rare outside of La Belle Province. Sandwich hot chicken usually has the same or similar sauce as poutine, plus chicken and peas served open faced over white bread. Not haute cuisine, but it really makes me feel like I'm back in the Quebec of my youth. Galvaude combines classic poutine with the chicken and peas from sandwich hot chicken, minus the bread. Dairy Belle's galvaude is spot on. Lastly, I tried the ice cream too, which was excellent. I don't usually like soft ice cream like Dairy Belle's, but theirs is so rich and creamy that I could easily become addicted to it, especially the vanilla topped with their homemade caramel sauce. read more
