Over the years, I've developed a soft spot for this place - the Dairy Queen on Scenic Highway that is attached to a gas station and sits atop the bluffs overlooking I-10 crossing Escambia Bay to enter Pensacola. How can one not? I am writing an update that keeps the rating the same - at 4 stars - and that's because I actually had "dinner" here when I have always just ordered a chocolate dipped cone. The reality is that, despite the #14 combo being satisfying on its own, I still ordered a chocolate dipped cone! The #14 Dairy Queen combination consisted of a fish sandwich, fries, and a soft drink. The fish sandwich had a good sized breaded fillet patty, but I had them add pickles, which I think taste great on fish sandwiches. I was surprised that the fries were very tasty. For soft drinks, they have a machine from which Coke Zero is one of the options. I always appreciate this so I can avoid a 50:50 mix of Coke and Diet Coke, the latter of which is sort of bland. While this eating adventure was high in calories, I kept telling myself there had to also be protein, fiber, and vitamins in the mix! The folks at the counter were good natured and said "sure" when I inquired about adding pickles. The food was made to order and arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The price for this combination was fair. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I also ate inside for the first time at this Dairy Queen.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] That's because I'd be juggling several food items beyond an ice cream cone, which is usually eaten outside while gazing at the long I-10 bridge and the beautiful bay. So, in conclusion, this Dairy Queen has both beauty and brains. I absolutely love this Dairy Queen. I've been to many in many different states and this is my favorite, by far. It has a magnificent view of the Escambia Bay. There is another dairy queen closer to my house but I always prefer to make the drive to the Scenic Hwy location. The outdoor seating is the best part, with the best view, but indoor seating has a great view as well, for the rainy days. The bathrooms are always clean when I visit and the staff is always friendly and quick to make your order. I always order either an ice cream cone or banana split. Their food is good too. I've tried their chicken sandwiches, fries, and hot dogs so far. read more

First off, we waited for about 20 for our food and ice cream then IT WASNT EVEN CORRECT. I was very upset because they were also extremely rude. Based on the one chili-cheese dog that I got here, I wouldn't be too enthusiastic to rush back to get anything else. From the sloth-like and surly employee manning the register in the convenience store section, to the morgue-like emptiness of the DQ area, it was a less than stellar experience. The hot dog was...a hot dog. I asked for extra mustard, which I think I got, but the hot dog artist squirted the damned mustard on top of the chili and cheese. Who does that? Most of it ended up stuck to the lid of the paper crate holding the half-foot snack, so had to swab at the mustard with the bun as I was eating. The cheese was a curiously pale orange, unlike any other cheese that I have had close contact with. The chili had hard lumps in it...beef? I dunno. I ate it, because I paid $2.35 for it. I am frugal and selfish like that. As others have mentioned, this store has a quite nice view of Pensacola Bay from the bluffs that it is perched atop. There is a wall and walk from which you can ogle the water, so if large bodies of water amaze you, you can snap some pics here. Located at the traffic light at the east-bound I-10 exit for Scenic Highway, you'll have to deal with inconsiderate ephtards when you try to leave. Seriously, drivers around here act like letting you onto the road ahead of them will cost them money. WTF is up with that? I had to sit through two cycles of the light before I pinched my eyes shut, yelped "Geronimo!" and buried the accelerator in the once-plush carpet of the floorboard to head north on Scenic. I figured the oncoming vehicle would slow down. Or not. I had breached the threshold of my patience and had to get moving. Really, I only stopped here because I had been on the beach for six hours and was about to experience bladder gasket fail. There are scant opportunities for relief between the 9-Mile split and where Scenic turns into Cervantes. Persevere if you can and stop elsewhere. If you can't, slide into this DQ and buy yourself a thoroughly mediocre and over-priced chili-cheese dawg. read more
