Before I moved in down the road 6 weeks ago I had never eaten Dairy Queen (I'm a transplant to the city from London). In the last 6 weeks I have been 4 times, its turning into a rather enjoyable Sunday evening habit. Have tried a couple of different Blizzards and Sundaes and they were all fab which is the reason for the 4 star review. However if I had to go based on service they would manage 1, maybe 2 on a good day. In my 4 visits they have messed up my order twice. Big, giant props for knowing the ingredients of the original blizzard concoction (I have no proof that the chocolate coating, peanuts and bananas in vanilla i.c. is the original, but my father told me so and I am sticking my guns). This Dairy Queen, while strategically placed in the middle of Chicago hood turn generi-trendy, somehow stands alone and does a decent job of it. DQ conjures the happiest of childhood memories, even if it is just soft serve vanilla ice cream. Like Portillo's, DQ is a family-time staple. I couldn't believe that they had such a cute country-style DQ at this spot on Southport. You will almost feel like you're in a tiny town in Northern Minnesota. (except for the super long line) Though I've mentioned my out-of-control fro-yo obsession, the Oreo Blizzard will never get old for me. Since I was about 7 years old, I have been saying "Next time I'll try something new" But then next time rolls along, and I have to get the oreo blizzard. Maybe it's my OCD, maybe it's the Oreo, but it's most likely the perfect combination of Oreo and Softserve. They bring the goods w regard to soft serve ice cream, blizzards, etc, we all know that. However, if you want a dog that's *not* a chicago-style, (c'mon, it does happen from time to time) then I implore you to try their chili cheese dog. Okay, so I believe that this is one of the only Dairy Queen stores left in Chicago. Having said that I was disappointed that they only offer the ice cream side of dairy queen. Friendly staff it was also nice to take advantage of the promotion they had going on buy 1 and get one for $0.99. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to find a reasonable sweet treat. This place is always a zoo. I love DQ ice cream especially blizzards (YUM!!). I live close but on warm/hot days, the line is out the door which is a little annoying. The staff is always nice and once you order your ice cream/food, it doesn't take that long. There is not a ton of seating inside the restaurant. read more

Blizzards are awesome! Staff is not friendly but I kind of understand because they have to deal with a million kids with ice cream dripping all over the floor. Food wise they only sell hot dogs...not cool!! The chicken tender basket is the best! I don't know why they don't expand the menu a bit. The place is so popular and everyone would love it. read more

USE THIS DQ for your next kids birthday cake. I called less than a week prior to the party to get a large sheet cake for my daughter's 2nd birthday. Yet another place for sweets on Southport... It's a pretty small Dairy Queen. There's one TV playing old black and white cartoons to give off the old style diner effect but it's located in a spot that isn't near any tables which makes it pointless. I've never ordered an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen but this past week I decided to give them a try with a cake for Mother's Day after they sent me an email with a picture of a really nice cake just for Mother's Day. I ordered it online on May 5th and they are supposed to call you to get payment. After waiting two days and not getting a call I decided to drive to the store. Someone there, I think it was a shift Mgr, told me they didn't have everything they needed to do all the designs on the cake but otherwise the decoration on top would look just like the picture and it would say Happy Mother's Day. He did give me a 50% discount due to the problem with the decorating he couldn't do. Needless to say, when I picked it up on Mother's Day it did not look like the picture and it did not say Happy Mother's Day; it said "Happi Flower SHop DP Paisley". THat apparently is the design name of the cake. No one even called me about that. I had not choice but to take it since I was having family over for Mother's Day but this totally screwed up the MOther's Day part of having the cake. They apparently are not very good with following instructions or with contacting you if there is a problem so be careful if you are ordering an ice cream cake from this Dairy Queen. read more

Folks, it's a Dairy Queen!!! Some of you are posting on here like you were going to Hot Chocolate or the Doughnut Vault. Yesterday I said to my partner, what can we do on a hot summer afternoon that won't cost us an arm and a leg. Voila! Dairy queen ice cream. We walked over and, even though there was a street festival going on, we didn't have to wait too long for our ice cream cones. If you've ever sat there during the day, you will see just how much business this Dairy Queen does, so, if you go there at the end of the night, and they are out of things, well, that's understandable. It's a busy place! Surprise, you are not their only customer. It's disappointing but they do have other things there. Also, the service was fast and friendly; they moved the line through quickly without feeling like you were getting the bum's rush. I just wish I lived closer. read more

Strange to see that a simple, old-fashioned franchise like Dairy Queen has decided to open an outlet on yupscale Southport Av., but I'm not complaining, I much prefer their Blizzard treats over the ice cream offerings of nearby Cold Stone. They also serve a few non-ice cream dishes such as hot dogs and BBQ beef, but don't get too excited about those, they tend to be smallish & not a great value for the price - it appears that this store is not equipped to offer a lot of the grill items that other Dairy Queens serve. read more

I ordered an ice cream cake for my friend's birthday earlier this week. We were having a potluck dinner of Mexican food at another friend's house to celebrate.
