As Tina Turner sang, "Simply the best! Better than all the rest!" That's Fearings. While the menu does change some, fortunately there's some staples you can always count on. Great location. Amazing service. Phenomenal food. We were out and about so I surprised my wife for lunch at her favorite spot. We pull up to valet and are greeted with a smile. Greeted again as we enter the breathtaking lobby, a common photo-op for date nights and family gatherings. We walk through the bar to the receptionist, "reservation?" "No maam, we're just dropping in." "Two of you?" "Yes maam!" "Great follow me." We get a romantic booth on the wall with a view of the windows and the kitchen. There's several groups having business lunches and in front of us the two cutest ladies who have probably been best friends for 50+ years having lunch and celebrating one of their birthdays. We're greeted again by one of our servers who takes drink orders. We both order sparkling water with lime, and I also ask for iced tea. I ask the waiter "is it a brewed flavored tea by chance?" "No sir. It's a black tea." I reply, "you guys used to serve the most amazing ginger peach tea of which I became quite the connoisseur." He replies, "oh we still offer that through out the hotel. I'll get you a glass." "Really?!?! That would be perfect!" He then returns with our drinks and brings out their famous breads and butter. They are all incredible, but my personal favorite is the jalapeño cornbread. It's a game changer! He informs us it's restaurant week, which we've always heard of but never taken part in one. Three course meal, includes dessert, for $39 per person. Their offer is some of their top hits so we're stoked! We both get a cup of their world famous Dean's tortilla soup. It's non-negotiable. You've got to get it. We then added a Southwest Caesar salad to share, not part of the offer, which they split into two plates without us asking. Next the entrees come out. I got the Dr Pepper braise Rosewood Ranch Short Ribs with 'Loaded' Whipped Potatoes, Glazed Heirloom Carrots and Crispy Tobacco Onions. When I say this was a game changer and not to be missed, I can emphasize it enough. This entree is probably Dean's most popular and for good reason. Funny enough, while the short rib is a game changer, the sides should have won a Grammy for best supporting role. They were incredible. I saved a piece of the cornbread just to sop up my lunch and proudly gave myself a pat on the back for such a stellar idea. My wife had the Apricot Glazed Bay of Fundy Salmon on Field Pea Salad, Pepita Pesto and Buttermilk Fried Okra. She couldn't stop talking about it. Admittedly, I'm not a salmon fan, but it was very good. Once again the okra and sides were a showstopper. NOTE: one of our favorite things about Fearing's is their French pressed pot of coffee. It's exceptional. So without hesitation, knowing we probably couldn't finish a glass due to our existing gluttony, we didn't give up like a bunch of sissies, no we pressed on. It's a marathon, not a sprint. We got our pot of coffee and await the pièce de résistance, dessert! For Dessert, I had Granny Fearing's Banana Pudding with Toasted Meringue and Cinnamon Sugar Beignets. OMG! So good it will make you kiss yo momma! Seriously, if you've given up too early and missed this special treat then you've got to man up and stay the course, the third course. Again, it's a marathon so stay focused, don't overindulge and devour everything. To go bags are totally acceptable. My wife had a dessert I haven't seen before, but she absolutely loved hers. It's was a s'mores chocolate cakes with a chocolate ganache warm sauce poured over. While the presentation left us speechless, the flavor exceeded our already high expectations. To put icing on the cake, one of the managers brought me another brewed peach tea and we discussed how much I love it and that the company was purchased by Starbucks and ceased to exist. Fearings and several others used to use them and I could spot it in an instant. I told her I purchased a stash before they went out of business. She then told me the brand they use and even came back and surprised me with a sealed bag of the tea leaves to brew at home. THAT is the typical every day experience everyone has at Fearings and THAT's WHY WE KEEP COMING BACK. If we were offered one last meal, our family would choose Fearings. We come here just because, for birthday's, anniversaries, business, and any other time we can find an excuse. It's simply the best! read more

Absolutely amazing last restaurant week dinner for the year. From start to finish, everything was great. Servers were attentive and friendly. Started with complimentary gazpacho which was delicious. So smooth and refreshing. My other starters were the tortilla soup and elites beef carpaccio. I'm normally not the biggest fan of tortilla soup but this one was excellent. I feel like it had more of a southwest flavor than I'm used to in these. The carpaccio was good but not my favorite, mainly because of the elotes. I would eat again just the beef and sauces. For main, I got the antelope and rabbit enchilada. I ate every bite it was so good. The antelope was cooked perfectly, was tender, and had great flavor. If you're looking for a great dining experience in Dallas, Fearing's is now at the top of my list! We visited it during restaurant week but now I want to go back and get some more from the main menu! I started with the shrimp aquachile and it was delicious. It had a subtle spice but also felt some Asian flavors to it. Next, I had the Denver steak. It was mouthwatering! They cooked it perfectly and there is a southwestern rub on the edges that give it a nice feel to compliment the texture of the smooth steak. Finally, I had the chocolate tart for dessert. It was so rich and decadent. I'm a chocolate lover and it was the perfect cake! The staff was amazing. I visited during Dallas' Restaurant Week and started the evening with cocktails at the Rattlesnake Bar, which had a fantastic vibe--upscale but still relaxed. One surprise was having to explicitly request the Restaurant Week menu from the waiter, though it did feature several staples from their regular lineup - 3 courses for $59, incredible deal! The meal began with a trio of breads--jalapeño cornbread, sourdough, and a bacon-studded bread--all of which were delicious. My starter was Dean's Tortilla Soup. The presentation was the highlight: the bowl arrived with the fixings in place, and the waiter poured in the broth tableside. While it was flavorful, it didn't completely wow me. My date had the Texas Caesar Salad, a playful twist on the classic with a touch of BBQ sauce. For my entrée, I chose the Achiote Glazed Broken Arrow Ranch Nilgai Antelope--my first time trying antelope--and it absolutely blew me away. Cooked perfectly to a juicy medium-rare, it tasted like a lean, tender cut of steak. The accompanying braised rabbit enchilada was equally impressive, with no gamey flavor and a rich, savory sauce. We ended on a sweet note with banana pudding and chocolate pecan pie--both outstanding. Scoop some banana pudding into the cinnamon sugar beignets for a favor explosion!! Thanksgiving 2025. For the $155 price point I had high expectations, but food was average at best. I could barely find any scallops in my appetizer, which was mostly gnocchi, and the truffles barely had any taste. Their take on a traditional Thanksgiving meal was descent, but the stuffing and mashed potato was rather dry, as was the darker turkey meat on the bottom of the white meat. Holiday Tea at The Ritz-Carlton Dallas -- Extremely Disappointing Experience I attended the Holiday Tea at The Ritz-Carlton Dallas expecting a polished, festive afternoon. Unfortunately, the service and overall execution were so poor that it didn't resemble Ritz-level hospitality at all -- nor the standards of a Michelin-recommended property like Fearing's. Food The savory items were the highlight: * The smoked salmon & crème fraîche sandwich was excellent -- easily the best bite of the day. * The lobster roll was a close second and very well done. After that, things went downhill: * The scones were cold and tasted day-old. * The desserts were lackluster and largely forgettable, which made the long wait for them even more disappointing. Service Problems The service was the most concerning aspect of the entire experience. Missing Basics * Our table wasn't set with teaspoons, which is baffling for a tea service. * The waiter poured the wrong teas into both cups, and then we didn't see anyone again for 35 minutes. * I had to request a spoon just to stir my tea. Later, when desserts arrived, we had to request spoons again -- including for items that require one, like the peppermint verrine. Food Handling Concerns Multiple moments felt unprofessional and unsanitary: * Staff carried the tiered cake stands down by the floor instead of elevated or on a cart. * We watched a waiter talk to a cake stand by his leg before delivering it to another table. * Our server pointed at each dessert with her finger, unsure of what any of them were despite the printed menu. * She also wiped something off the serving stand with her bare finger before setting it down. * By dessert time, I had finished my entire pot of tea and was never offered a refill. Slow, Disjointed Timing * Sandwiches and tea: 35-minute wait * Desserts: another 30-minute wait * Total time before we brought concerns up: 1 hour and 30 minutes Resolution When I finally mentioned the missing spoons and long delays, I told the waiter it wasn't his fault. He replied, "Yes, it is," and told us not to pay for the tea. We insisted on paying so we could leave a tip. The hostess generated a bill for 11 cents, and we left a $100 tip for the staff. A kind gesture -- but it highlighted how unusual and uncomfortable the entire experience had become. Overall This Holiday Tea was not representative of The Ritz-Carlton. The sandwiches were genuinely good, but the cold scones, mediocre desserts, and deeply unprofessional service overshadowed everything. I truly hope this was just an off day, because based on this visit, the Holiday Tea fell far below what the Ritz-Carlton Dallas is known for. read more

Came here for Mother's Day brunch over the weekend. I was a bit disappointed in the service originally as I had to call 6 TIMES before I got a hold of someone as my daughter has celiac (gluten allergy) and I wanted to ensure they could accommodate. When I finally got a hold of someone they confirmed they could accommodate her but wouldn't tell me what her food options would be. LUCKILY she loves filet but that was the only option for her and I imagine many kids would be disappointed by that. Also her filet ended up a bit salty so that was a bummer. For the kids the starter was a berry bowl which they forgot to bring out until we reminded them. My other daughter had chicken fingers for her main entree and for dessert my celiac daughter got a flourless chocolate cake and my other daughter had a few small different desserts. I started with the fried shrimp Cobb salad which was really good but it was totally unnecessary to fry the shrimp, it really should have been grilled or sautéed because frying it made the whole dish super heavy. I got the halibut as my main entree which was good but a bit bland. Dessert was a variety of small desserts. Overall we were underwhelmed and service was also quite slow. read more

Came here for Valentine's Day and it was amazing outside the forever wait time. They stayed open to accommodate the crowd. While we waited, I ordered a dirty Shirley from the bar and it truly was the best I've had. When we were finally seated, the fine dining experience began immediately upon being seated. We even received this delicious, unexpected mushroom tarte from the chef. Chefs kiss :) For starters, we began with a trio of sampler items they had on the menu (see photos). Delicious! Located inside the Ritz-Carlton we found this restaurant during a recent stay which I am glad we did. The atmosphere was both beautiful and inviting, the perfect balance between upscale and comfortable. The food really good, But the real highlight was the drinks. We were seated in a booth close to the kitchen but we didn't notice the sound. We started with the Southwest Sampler. The crab cakes were fried perfectly, the short rib enchilada was a little too sauce heavy but still delicious, and the lobster tacos were delicious...but let's be honest, the tacos were one bite and not two bite. My gf had the Chilean Sea Bass and I ordered the Antelope over Mole Rojo with Rabbit Enchilada. Both the sea bass and the rice it sat on were cooked perfectly. Absolutely delicious dish that I'll order next time for myself. I'm usually disappointed with rice in Texas so this was a pleasant surprise. The antelope was amazing. Whenever I see it on a menu, I always order it and I encourage everyone to try it. The only miss on this dish was the rabbit enchilada. The servers were great with knowing to have drinks out immediately but then giving people leeway to talk. Drinks looked wonderful, but I had a Prosecco. Amazing customer service! Scheduled lunch here on a Saturday and there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. The basil mocktail was a great start then on the beef empanadas and tortilla soup. The recommendation was to try the burger and the short ribs- which was cooked to perfection! My wife and I went to dinner at Fearing's last night. My wife ate the sea bass and when we got home, she became very sick and threw up multiple times throughout the night. This morning I called the restaurant and there were no managers available to talk with me about the problem. I was given the number of a manager to call, but she didn't pick up and the mailbox was full so I couldn't leave a message. I will be reporting the restaurant to the local health inspector. This is less of a review and more of a warning shot to any family thinking about dining here: don't. We came for a Saturday lunch. The restaurant was practically empty - 3 or 4 tables total - yet the service was an embarrassment. I sat with an empty water glass for what felt like forever until I finally had to ask. My mom's iced tea? Never refilled without asking. Bread? Never replenished, even though we clearly enjoyed it. Meanwhile, the server was perfectly happy to spend 10+ minutes chatting in Spanish with a table of two while ignoring the rest of us. For a place that bills itself as one of Dallas' premier restaurants, the service was closer to a Denny's on its worst day. But the real insult didn't land until the check arrived. That's when I realized just how brazenly this place gouges families. Let me spell it out: $6 for a single glass of milk in a plastic cup. $20 for a plain mac and cheese for my 3-year-old. The check at the end listed it as "crab macaroni and cheese," but there wasn't a shred of crab on that plate. Fraud, anyone? $25 for a cheeseburger for my 6-year-old. Yes, twenty-five dollars. For a kid's burger. We asked about kids' items before we placed our order. At no point did the server warn us we'd be charged full adult entrée prices for children's food. That level of deception feels predatory. Almost like they're counting on parents not noticing until the check hits the table. It's disgusting. And here's the kicker: the adult food was excellent. The $40 power lunch is actually a great deal. But what good is that when you feel swindled and disrespected the moment your kids are involved? Shame on Fearing's. Charging families these kinds of prices without transparency isn't just bad hospitality. It's a disgrace. read more

A wonderful place... food, atmosphere, staff, everything was wonderful. I went with my partner and in-laws, they live in southern Oklahoma, and came to pick me up at DFW. We then stopped for lunch. So glad we did. Recommend the Tortilla Soup as an appetizer- it really stood out, even though everything was great. I even bought a copy of Chef Fearing's cookbook and brought it home to Upstate New York, can't wait to try some of the dishes outlined in the book! I was so enjoying the food, that I forgot to take pictures of it, and it made no sense to post pictures of our empty plates. Look forward to returning to Dallas, and visiting it again. read more

My husband and I went there to Fearing's restaurant last night. I ordered Seabass with mango sauce in it and jasmine rice. The rice tasted nasty, too much oil on it and my sea-bass mango sauce tasted strange too. Last night I got food poisoning, I threw up a lot it was miserable. What an incredible experience! Came to Fearing's to celebrate my daughters birthday and had a great time. We were greeted and sat promptly upon our arrival and the service team was warm and friendly. The meal kicked off with the delicious breadbasket with three bread offerings and smoked butter. All tree options were quite tasty, but the sourdough in particular was particularly tasty and well done. From there we had a complimentary amuse of the tiniest taco ever! Moved on to share the sampler with the Crab Cake, lobster taco, and enchilada and all were very well prepared and delish. The entrees arrived and we had the Scallops, Beef filet with Chicken Fried Lobster, and the Buffalo filet. All were excellent with highlights with each dish. The pork belly that accompanied the scallops was great and those grits! Do not miss the grits! The chicken fried lobster was a highlight as well as the Buffalo filet itself. Safe to say that the entrees were exactly what you would expect, well executed with solid flavors all around. But now we come to the desserts and I feel like this is where Fearing's truly shines. So many of the components were the best we ever had of that item! Banana pudding and Beignets? Both were the best I have ever tasted and that includes Cafe du Monde in New Orleans for the beignets. The Lemon Ice Box Pie was the best I have ever experienced of that offering as well with the perfect tang from the Myer Lemon. Even the complimentary chocolate cake for the birthday was remarkable. All this and I haven't t even mentioned the perfectly prepared Creek Brûlée. It was all remarkable, the pastry kitchen game here is strong and should not be missed. Save room people!! The dining room is also a standout. Very clean and comfortable. I personally appreciate that the booths are set away from the walls so the booth can be serviced from both sides to reduce reaching across the diners. I ordered the antelope because that was an exotic dish and it was pretty tasty. I do think there is too much hype though for Fearing's and pricey. It was good but I don't think I'll be back. Overall, we had a pleasant dining experience at Fearing's. The dress code I think is smart casual, or you can dress up too. The service is very good and the vibes are great. We loved our table location in front of the chef's prep line! The complimentary bread box is outstanding compared to other fine dining restaurants that we've been. Three different options with soft butter and they are yummy. Southwest Sampler is a great appetizer too. We particularly like the BBQ Short Rib Enchilada with Chorizo Queso Fundido & the Crispy Two-Bite Lobster Tacos with Avocado Relish! Flavorful yet not too heavy. Entrees are less impressive compared to the bread box and the appetizer. The lamb in my Mesquite Grilled Pomegranate Glazed Lamb Chops is perfectly cooked to crispy outside and juicy inside, and the samosas are sweet and yummy. We were s taying at the Ritz-Carlton and this restaurant is located inside on the first floor--opposite check in--so it was super convenient. We went here for my wife's birthday dinner and it was a great experience. Service was top-notch and the food was excellent from start to finish. We started with the Southwest sampler which includes a small lobster taco (the lobster is mixed in with guacamole so most of it is guac); short rib enchilada, and a small bite size crab cake. Each had good flavor and was a perfect start. I had the tenderloin (7 oz) and it was phenomenal. Perfectly seasoned and cooked medium, it was a great steak. Not a bit of gristle or fat. Just tender and juicy and delicious. The wife had the antelope and loved it. It also was seasoned and cooked perfectly so it was tender. The flavor of antelope takes a bit of getting used to IMO but the wife liked it so that is what was important. The portions look small but actually are filling so they are perfect. They don't have a kid's menu per se but have some things that they can prepare for a kid so we ordered a kid's sized Caesar salad (it was really good) and THE BEST chicken tenders I have ever tasted. These had nothing to do with any chicken tenders in the rest of the world, which can be heavy and greasy. These were lightly coated, fried perfectly, and the chicken was actually moist and tender. The accompanying fries were very crispy so that meal was a home run for the kid, which is of course important. For dessert we shared the chocolate torte and it was very good. Plus, as an added bonus they brought the wife a small piece of chocolate cake with one candle. It is hard to imagine a more perfect meal. Everything was great and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We concluded our week in the Dallas area with dinner at Fearing's in The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas. Dean Fearing is known as the "Father of Southwestern Cuisine" and his dishes feature gulf seafood and wild game. We started with cocktails and I finally found a restaurant in the Dallas area that carried 1908 Empress gin so I had to have an Empress gin & tonic. This is one of my favorite gins, for its clean taste and unique coloration. I ordered a bottle of 2018 Chateau Gloria, a wine from St. Julien (Bordeaux). Perhaps needing a few more years of maturation, it was silky, with a lot of fruit. We were served an amuse bouche on a spoon; I didn't hear what it was ... a small piece of toast with something piped on ... whatever it was, it was delicious. My co-worker and I split the Southwest Sampler comprised of jumbo lump crab cakes, BBQ short rib enchilada and crispy lobster tacos. Each bite of heaven was accompanied by a sauce or topping (Chipotle Crema, Chorizo Queso and Avocado relish). Wow, if this is the appetizer, what will an entrée taste like? Two had the "must have" Dean's Tortilla soup, it looked scrumptious! I'm not certain what the other dish was; it was a salad that could have served as a main dish and looked so appealing. I had the Achiote Glazed Broken Arrow Ranch Nilgai Antelope, featuring a Mole Rojo and a braised rabbit enchilada. If there is game on the menu; I'm in and this featured two ... the antelope was so tender and flavorful and the rabbit was ... I wanted more! Others ordered the Peppercorn Soaked Buffalo Tenderloin, Pan Seared Eastern Shore Sea Scallops, BBQ Spiced Beef Filet and Chicken Fried Maine Lobster, Pan Seared Dry Aged Rohan Duck Breast and the Nova Scotia Halibut. Every dish was a work of art, visually and taste-wise. A palate cleansing scoop of sorbet followed and some ordered dessert, including an interesting take on bread pudding ... banana pudding with mini Beignets. I opted to finish my meal with a cup of Illy coffee, good but not quite rich enough for me. What did I / we think? This was the best meal we had in Dallas and topped off our trip in a big way. If you're in the area, Fearing's Restaurant is a "must do". I don't understand why the Yelp rating is only 4 stars; it's 5-plus for me. Highly recommended! read more

I celebrated my 50th birthday dinner at Fearings with my family and really enjoyed the experience! Fearings had a great decor. The service staff were all so attentive and friendly. They made us feel right at home. We had a lot of great dishes during our meal. The southwest sampler had excellent flavors, the crab cake, avocado tacos were very tasty but the portion size was kind of smaller than we'd like. The tortilla soup was very good, it's a large portion and almost a meal unto itself. I had the antelope and it was very good. My wife had the halibut and found it a little bland and my son ordered the buffalo. We all sampled each other's dishes and the buffalo was the big winner. It was super flavorful. The sides of local mushrooms and brussel sprouts were also very tasty. We were absolutely stuffed by the end of the dinner. Again, my thanks to the amazing staff. They gave us a lot of attention during this special evening. I left a very generous tip as a thank you. Note that parking at the Ritz is $15 valet plus tip. It was a pricey meal but we enjoyed it! read more

I was able to eat here for my 20th birthday with my family. The restaurant is a small set up but it was beautifully set and with really nice romantic lighting. We were able to meet the head chef as he went around and introduced himself to each table. The service was fantastic as we never ran out of anything and they were super attentive! The food was fantastic I had the coconut lobster bisque which was delicious and I had the grouper for my meal. Overall a great experience and I would come back again! read more

We ordered drinks and an appetizer on Fearing's patio while listening to a favorite singer, Joseph Veazie. Due to the excessive heat, we opted for a non-alcoholic cocktail--Facetious--which was refreshing and tasty. However, it's the wagyu empanada that brought me here to post a review. It was outstanding! The combination of flavors had my tastebuds tingling. I devoured it before getting a picture, so trust me on this--order it! The people watching is great, with lots of beautiful people stopping in to see and be seen. read more

Came here for breakfast: 1. Best french toast I've ever had. The crispy coconut pineapple french toast is unique because it comes as little cubes, which means it has a higher ratio of the wonderful toasty edges. I normally don't eat french toast and here I started with "just one bite" and ended up devouring the entire plate leaving none for anyone else. 2. Avocado toast was good. It had a mini salad on top which is not a bad thing - it made it more substantial and filling - and certainly makes for great presentation. read more
