The scenery of this restaurant is great and the interior is nothing but refreshing. As for the service and food... I can definitely say it's a very watered down westernized taste of Turkish cuisine and hospitality. I was very turned off by the waitress who took our order as I chose to only order the California Tahdig. She smirked at me and said that her hand is bigger than this entrée and that if I'm sure I would be full. To the naked I may seem like an enlarged person who can eat a lot but I just underwent the gastric sleeve and unfortunately can only eat half of the size of her whopping hand. I found it very rude that she would make that comment as if I couldn't order more later on if I wanted to, I think professionalism needs to be enforced amongst diners and servers. Other than that unpleasant encounter I enjoyed the California Tahdig but it wasn't anything special, you can make this saffron or turmeric rice at home and throw your own choice of seafood on top. I loved the idea of a middle eastern take on sushi but this experience just put a bad taste in my mouth. My partner had the short rib kebab, saffron rice and a beer. This place was fantastic. Every dish we had was unique and flavorful. The service was also really great and attentive. Our favorite dish was the Octopus. It was presented really beautifully, and the little sauces and even the parsley really complemented the cold octopus well. The bread spread was also great, with the warm fresh bread. We especially liked the Muhammura in the spread. The salad with artichoke hearts and celery root was really fresh and acidic. The lamb shoulder was similarly tasty, especially the fatty parts. It was very soft and tender. Deliciously crafted authentic Turkish cuisine lovingly served at affordable prices in an extraordinary setting, Dalida lives up to the high expectations established since opening this past summer. Located in what was once the Commissary space in what originated as army barracks in San Francisco's heyday as a major military outpost in the historic Presidio park, Dalida comes from husband-and-wife owners and chefs Laura and Sayat Ozyilmaz, who with this concept, goal is to bring a little bit of Sayat's native Mediterranean aesthetic via Turkish food to San Francisco's lushly curated park, of which they acknowledge reminds them of a little bit of his homeland. I had not heard too much about the strong buzz coming out of Dalida, since their opening, so when a friend said that they could get a reservation for two of us on a weeknight for dinner, I was sold. The fact that Dalida is located in the Presidio added to the mystique, as there are not too many restaurants located here, and parking was plentiful. Arriving early, they put us in their bar area, where other diners were sitting with menus and drinks waiting for their tables to be ready, and we ordered our cocktails. I ordered their Pasha, which had tequila, strawberry, tomato grenadine, thyme mountain tea, milk clarified, while my friend ordered their Shepherd's Pie, which had walnut washed armagnac, oloroso, fig, house nocino and bitters. I loved my cocktail as the sweetness carried throughout every sip and had a little whimsy thanks to the circular shaped ice cubes, while my dining mate was less impressed with their drink. Almost immediately, we sat at our table in their dining room, and were able to peruse their menu with a little assistance with our server's Susana's recommendations in mind. The menu at Dalida is separated into categories including Ocean, Garden, Land, Middle Eastern Pastas, Entrees, Large Entrees, Sides and their Chef's Menu, which is a curated menu in which the Chef selects a pre-fix meal from their menu. Of course, with Dalida being so new, the fact that they have a signature dish already meant it had to be pretty special so we ordered their Breaking Bread appetizer from the Garden section of their menu, it was a beautifully baked round of pita bread, called chubby pita, topped with melted butter, and served with hummus, muhammara, smoked yogurt, pickles, cucumbers and marinated olives. This was the perfect way to start our meal as it provided a fresh perspective on the way certain traditional Mediterranean dishes are served in Turkey. For our meal, we ordered their Cypriot Lamb Chops, which were two racks of lamb that were encased in ground lamb and caul fat; served on a bed of hummus, and topped with lamb jus and chives. We also ordered their Kibbe, which was a sautéed beef roll served in a crisp bulgur wheat coating and served with tahini sauce. For our sides, we decided to split their Saffron Tahdig which was a crispy Persian rice pancake served with barberries, and their Seasonal Vegetables, which for today, were grilled slices of pumpkin squash. We loved everything about our meal, as we were both enamored with their lollipop sized racks of lamb, which were the perfect size of plate to share between two diners. The Kibbe was a fun small dish to share, as the squash was wonderfully seasoned and prepared, the rice was a little too cooked for my taste but did help sop up the rich gravy that came from the lamb dish. We also enjoyed two glasses of red wine with our meal, as the helpful team at Dalida was on the standby ready to answer any questions that we had of their wine menu, as under the Red Wines by the Glass section of their menu we saw two wines that piqued our interest, with myself ordering a glass of their 2020 Blatina from the Skegro Family Winery 'Krs Crni' sourced from Mostar in Bosnia & Herzegovina, while my friend ordered their 2021 Xinomavro from Thymiopoulos 'Young Vines' sourced from Naoussa, Greece. They were the perfectly unique wines from the Balkan peninsula that paired well with a perfectly unique meal sourced from various regions of the Eastern Mediterranean. Since we were here I had to order dessert, and their Chocolate Muhallebi, which was their version of a pudding or mousse and was topped with hazelnut sauce and Turkish coffee cream, was the perfect way to end our meal. Our total bill was $189.75, which was very reasonable considering how much food and libations we enjoyed this evening. I am so glad that the Ozyilmaz family is bringing their culture so us aspiring foodie denizens can experience their nuanced cuisine to the masses in the perfect setting, so hopefully we can be educated and indulged for years to come. read more

Went there tonight - The ambiance/location is lovely, Food tasted good, but there was a hiccup in our family style tasting menu for two. I gave the feedback to the restaurant and the owner and he was very open and thoughtful about the feedback and came up with an action plan to make sure the tasting menu has value and they can execute it well given all their demand it sounds like we may have had a less special tasting menu experience as they just had many tasting menus that night and weren't able to do as many off menu items and are still working out the kinks of how to serve a larger group. I'm eager to go back to give it another try and see how it goes. They are truly invested in making sure their experience is one that is worth it. I love the idea of family style tasting menus and hope they find a way of better scaling it for groups larger than two. This is what we got in our tasting menu for four: Breaking Bread - delicious spreads and we were kicking the bottom of he dishes hoping for more Fattoush Salad - tasted fresh, the croutons were nice Anatolian Erishte - the hand cut noodles and mushrooms were probably my favorite dish of the night. Wish we had two portions of it! 4 pieces of Cantaloupe and feta, 4 Stuffed mussels, and 4 cubed sweet potato stuffed with goat cheese (off menu)- the cubes were lovely - spiced and creamy, and my friends said that it may have been one of the best cubes of food they've had! The stuffed mussels were a lovely bite that melded the Mediterranean flavors well. 4 stuffed squash blossom with a coriander sauce (off menu) - very tasty, one for each of us. The squash blossoms are hand picked and had a light lovely Saffron Tahdig - tasty and crunchy, goes well with the lamb 12 hour lamb shoulder tandoor - the lamb was very succulent and tender, was lovely and we enjoyed it! Likely the most tender lamb we've ever had. Shishito Peppers - the red sauce was lovely Su Borek - Kinda was like white cheese lasagna, was fine but I probably wouldn't order it myself Pork Cheek Souvlaki - Tender and the crispy potatoes it came with was good. I felt like the pork could be more seasoned with a bit more salt Presidio rose tres leches cake - the rose marmalade was delicious and overall a nice dessert Char-broiled rice pudding - the smoked caramel sauce was lovely Marash Style Chocolate Ice Cream - My favorite, I enjoyed the texture greatly and it was a lovely complex flavor I think they have it well portioned out for a family tasting menu for two as is evidenced from the many reviews! Probably for us that night, it would have been better for us to go a la carte from a four person perspective. At this time, I can't recommend the chef's tasting menu if you're more than 2 people, but definitely still recommend coming here for the food! If I were to do it again with the group of four, I'd probably go a la carte and get the lamb shoulder, the turbot, the Anatolian Erishte (maybe even get two dishes of it, it's so good!), the pork cheek souvlaki, the octopus, the Zeytinyagli Enginar and Kereviz, the oysters suleman, lamb chops, shrimp and grits. Totally underwhelming. After all the hype, I was really looking forward to this meal. The taste was definitely lacking. We ordered a spectrum of apps and mains across the board, from lamb to eggplant and a number of other dishes. Dishes. There really wasn't any standout dish other than the 12-hour marinated lamb and the desserts. When we arrived at 6:15 pm, the place was already quite lively, and we were immediately seated next to windows facing the front patio and elegant Presidio grounds. As recommended in a 2023 SF Chronicle review, we decided to splurge on the $85 (per person) Chef's menu, along with a bottle of German Riesling suggested by the sommelier. It was well worth it. Though billed as a five-course tasting menu, it involved nearly a dozen different dishes. It began, auspiciously, with a wonderful 'small snack' of spiced mussels, a yogurt drink, and melon with cheese. A medly of more deliciousness followed: fried squash blossoms stuffed with ricotta; Octopus and Sujuk (think octopus prosciutto); Breaking Bread (the best pita and mezes ever) and Fattoush Salad; Duroc Pork Cheek Souvlaki (wow) with shoestring fries, and lamb filled dumplings; and finally, a pair of lamb shanks (very tender and flavorful) with crispy Moussaka and a separate plate of sweet peppers (amazing). We couldn't finish the lamb shank and peppers (they boxed the remainder for us to take home), but we saved room for the dessert course (actually 3 different desserts; 4 if you count the small cake that they brought us with a lit candle for one of our birthday's). In summary, Dalida combines sophistication and warmth with très delicious Eastern Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food. Head there before they earn their first Michelin star. P.S. My favorite restaurant experience this January! Both the food and service was top notch, a testament to Chefs Laura and Sayat's hospitality and quality. Breaking bread is a must-try dish; I'm certain that this was the best bread and hummus I will ever try. We tried the Chef's Menu and all dishes were light and flavorful. It was also well-paced! My favorites were the breaking bread (no surprise), lamb shoulder tandoor, kibbe, tahdig and the rose tres leches. I also enjoyed the Fattoush salad, which was a fresh combo of beets, persimmons, walnuts, and pita croutons. We also enjoyed the Santorini Assyrtiko with our meal. Pretty presentation and although described as fried it just had crispy edges but didn't seem oily and fried. We received a nice bonus birthday dessert a deconstructed take on a s'more which came with a beautiful metallic green candle. However, we had a number of miscommunications with the waiter (his english wasn't great) which wan't a big deal, but it took us longer to order and get our food. Since this was a sunday brunch, we didn't care, however, they asked us to clear out because we had stayed too long. At this price point, there is no excuse for pushing people to leave (2pm?) as brunch was winding down especially since the miscommunications took time up. Despite the heavy pour of rain last Saturday evening, we made it to Dalida to celebrate the birthday of my hubby. This was our first dining at Dalida which is located inside the former Presidio military. Parking is on the street and we paid until 6 pm (after 6 pm is free). My family rated 10/10. If you are planning the dinner ahead of time, call in advance at least 30 days. Walk ins are accepted but will wait for at least 1.5 or so hours. We went with high expectations due to the glowing reviews and accolades but came away underwhelmed and annoyed. Things started off poorly, we went in on a Thursday afternoon pretty close to opening and h ing checked that there were many reservation slots open. The man that checked us in told me that they would seat us either at the bar or the lounge table. And when I told him that the restaurant was more than half empty and they had plenty of reservations open, he made a show of checking to eir tables and then walked me over to a table. Maybe I didn't fit the standard bill of well heeled patrons. But I was already ticked off by the condescending attitude. Our waiter on the other hand seemed to have a hard time communicating. One of our group has severe allergies to some nuts and when we informed him, it didn't seem to register. So we had to prompt them to check on the items and asked if anything we were ordering had nuts. They said it was all okay but then on further prompting and inquiry told us the food runner would check. It took us aback because usually the waiters check and ensure that the food we're ordering is allergy safe. It just felt so different from our previous night at Seven Hills where our server was super on top of things and completely put us at ease. Lastly the food. Sadly for all the hype the food lacked the depth of flavor that we've experienced at other top notch Mediterranean restaurants like Bestia, Mourad, Evvia, etc. The lamb tandoori was well cooked but bland, the portions of the dips on the pita appetizer were stingy and the hummus was flat and boring. The cauliflower on the other hand was downright disgusting and was just a mess of flavors fighting for attention and too much of everything.
