We were looking for some good food in Anchorage on our one night in town following an Alaskan cruise. It was raining, and we wanted something close to our hotel with good food so we checked out the Yelp reviews and found Dami. It is certainly not something that would have caught my eye when walking by, but I am so glad we found this place. Inside the restaurant has a great ambiance. We were greeted quickly by a friendly server and plate of edamame. My husband and I ordered four sushi rolls to share. They came with salad and miso soup, and each one was more delicious than the next. After a week of great food, we didn't think we would be able to finish but we ate every bit because it was so good. I even enjoyed the complimentary fried Oreo that came out for dessert (yum)! And we had a wonderful conversation with our server. This place was a great value and excellent choice. Dami is not only our favorite sushi restaurant but one of our very favorites anywhere. Fish is always fresh, delicious, and prepared creatively. Service is always excellent. Only downside is location which is constantly swarming with street people on the outside in parking area. Like much of Anchorage this is an unfortunate problem but truthfully it's never caused any problems for our experience. read more

Clean and good atmosphere. The food is fresh and they have saki hot/cold. The price for food was the best I seen so far in Alaska. The sushi places in Wasilla are so terrible I make the hour drive in to eat at Dami's. Plus they bring you edamame in the beginning and fried Oreo at the end. read more

Excellent!! I ordered the halibut box and it came with a roll of my choice. I had the dragon roll and it was outstanding prep and super fresh. The tempura shrimp and veggies was so delicious. It was some of the best tempura I've ever had. At the end they brought me a tempure oreo. I can't wait to come back. read more

This was a great place. Despite its unusual location (attached to the Econo Inn), the ambiance was nice. The interior was decked in the usual Japanese garb and was dark with spotlight lighting and fairly loud rock music playing. The food was good. I had the sushi which was well prepared. The teriyaki and spicy squid was great. We also had the oyster appetizer...so fresh. I'd say the only downside was the drifting smell of cigarette smoke which only came in when a large group walked in from the Inn. It was minor. At the end of our meal we had a neat surprise, fried Oreo cookies! That was a treat since we've never had them before. Great end to a really good dinner. read more

The food and service is unimpressive and the older lady at the front is completely RUDE. I would not want to go back. I don't recommend eating here; you can find better food and service for the same price or cheaper all over town. I've had better rolls at Sushi & Sushi, Bernie's, Ronnie's, Souper Bowl in the mall, etc... The ambience inside of the restaurant is nice, even though it's connected to an Inn and our server seemed indifferent. Their menu is very extensive with a lot of options for sushi and other Japanese/Chinese food. We ordered appetizers and sushi rolls that didn't taste bad, but it was not anything special. My friend who is allergic to avocado ordered the Las Vegas roll which didn't have avocado listed in the menu (most Vegas rolls don't). It came with avocado, we told the server, she seemed to not believe us when we said that we don't think it was listed on the menu. Then she came back, said it's not supposed to be in there, took the Las Vegas roll to fix it. Our friend had to wait about 15 minutes after everyone at the table had already finished eating and our server didn't comp anything on the ticket nor did she apologize. When my friend got the roll back, an older lady who wasn't our server came by and said, "Las Vegas roll NO avocado" with an attitude. This was the same lady that checked us out (no one told us that we had to go to the front to pay, so we waited a long time without seeing our server after we received the check). We went to the front to pay, the older lady didn't say anything, I gave her the first card and told her how to split up the order, she still didn't say anything, she ran the card, gave it back, and asked what the two other cards on the table were for. I told her I wanted to split up the bill (mind you we were a group of 6 with a large bill), she did not apologize, said that she ran it for the whole amount, I asked if she could issue a refund, she made some noises and still didn't apologize, so we decided amongst ourselves to Venmo each other money and not waste any more time there. The lady stood there, didn't give us a pen to sign the receipt, when we asked for a pen she just said, "What? There's no pen?". It was terrible service for mediocre food that wasn't cheap. My wife and I truly enjoyed our sushi dinner at Dami on our vacation to Anchorage, despite being initially skeptical based upon the mixed reviews. We went mainly because it was walking distance from our hotel. Our server was friendly and honest (e.g., telling us not to get the oysters). We had the gyoza and 3 different sushi rolls, and all were excellent. Definitely recommended. read more

Friendly waitstaff. Didn't wait too long for food to come out. I did think the sushi was a bit pricey but it is Anchorage. I didn't care much for the location. It's unfortunate that you have to walk through the dingy lobby of the Econo Inn to get to the restaurant. I ordered the dinner entree vegetable tempura and a spicy roll. I should have just settled for the sushi. Very large portions on the vegetable tempura which also came with soup, salad, and rice. Overall, this place was great. I had a very friendly waitstaff. My sushi chef was kind enough to make me a little side of mussels *free of charge* to try and the waitresses were attentive and made sure that everything was okay. We've been to this place many moons ago & then it was just OK. This visit was definitely an upgrade from years past. Their food selection has broadened to include sashimi & my favorite dish, Hae-do-bop. The ambience is still on the dark side but I love it that way because it felt like date night. So don't let the location cause you to turn around and go somewhere else. Yes, it shares space with an Econolodge but that's where the similarities end. The food and service are both great. While I wouldn't say I'm a sushi snob, I can say I've eaten some primo sushi in my time and Dami's serves some damn good sushi. My wife and I shared three rolls and some sake. The Dragonfly and Crunchroll 2 were great, and while many sushi restaurants overwhelm you with a mouthful of rice and leave you wondering where's the fish, at Dami's you get just enough rice to complement the fish and bring all the flavors forward not hidden behind a mouthful of rice! Salad was SWIMMING I watered down gross sauce. The edamame was delivered cold to table with no bowl to discard into. This place is number one on Yelp of Japanese restaurant. This place needs to close down so someone who cares can run it. And the worst top 40 music one could possible play: ice pick in my ear. And I got an upset stomach about an hour later. Besides the strange location...Dami is overall very good! The sushi was amazing, our waitress was probably one of the best from all the other sushi restaurants. She was very attentive and accommodating to everything we asked for with such a great attitude. The prices are also very affordable, I had to check the bill twice to see if something was missed. Last week, we found this awesome sushi place. Inside of the restaurant looks very nice although the location was in a shady part of town and the outside looks a bit strange. But nonetheless, the food was wonderful. The sushi, tempura and teriyaki were amazing! Love the fresh fish and great presentation. Cute little place. Workers are very friendly and our waitress was pleasant and on point. My boys enjoyed watching the koi fish inside. We ordered the Calvin roll which we thought was pretty good. I got the teriyaki chicken combo and that was good (not the best I've ever had--but having a lot of teri sauce was a plus). Hubby got the teriyaki salmon and thought it was a little overcooked for his taste. Our daughter got the yakisoba with chicken and she said she would get it again. We ordered 6 rolls. A couple recommended by the server (billy roll and the Calvin roll) would definitely get them again!!! The service was great, our server was so prompt and polite.
