Not worth it. The food was poorly prepared, and we visited during lunch hour. Only three tables were being served, and it took over 20 minutes to get assistance. We remained patient, but the server wasn't busy at all. It might have been a bad day or the start of a shift, but she was staring at us, waiting for us to ask if we needed help. Besides that, maybe we'll try again for dinner in the future, but overall, it's not worth it. You're better off going to Sushi Ya. read more

My wife and I stopped for a late lunch. We wanted something light and warm. I had the shrimp and vegetables tempura Goyas Noodle Soup. I asked for it crazy spicy as the menu indicated as one their spice categories. The waiter politely indicated that was not possible. However when my soup arrived he produced a small bottle of spicy seasoning that I could use. The spice was grown red pepper flakes, lemon peal, black and yellow sesame seeds. I will look to find this in an oriental grocery or on line for purchase to use in my cooking. The soup was hot from the fire . Not spicy yet but after tasting the broth several times I experimented with this unknown seasoning. The broth was very favorable with mushrooms, green onions I believe ginger with a good size portion of large noodles. A without adding the spice was delicious. I did add a very small amount and tasted that for the heat. It was there but not enough for my taste buds. I added another amount making it about a 1/4 teaspoon. That amount added the heat I was looking for. The soup was now perfect for me an no criticism or insult is meant to the Chef. His soup was excellent and most people would love it without my tampering with heat. The tempura consisted of two each large shrimp, sweet potato slices, carrots slices all perfectly coated in tempura batter and deep fried. All very very tasty and I dipped each in my soup as I bit off pieces. My wife had a California Roll and tasted one piece. The rice was excellent and held together with the seaweed wrap. The shrimp and carrot inside with ginger slices and wasabi paste made this an excellent choice. I do not eat a lot of sushi and no little about it. The few times I have hadn't it has been very good by my limited taste knowledge. This was very good to my taste and she said it was great. We had iced tea to drink. The restaurant is very well decorated with an arrangement of booths and tables that allow both privacy and romance if you are inclined. Some of tables and chairs closest to the rotating sushi bar allow access to that. It appeared to be unused during our visit which may have been the time of day in late afternoon with minimal customers. I have never been to a restaurant using a rotating bar so will refrain from further comment until I can return and possibly use the bar. This restaurant is excellent, good for families and groups. If you are looking to try sushi or your a regular eater I would encourage you to try here. Some of the sushi prices seemed quite high to me but my wife says that is normal. I used to love coming here, pre-covid. The revolving belt was always jam packed with both savoury, and sweet dishes, and Ramune drinks, which intrigue me, with the little glass ball in the top. Then of course, covid put paid to the dishes on the belt, but they still had the main menu, which does have a lot of dishes on, to be fair. Well i heard recently they had restarted the belt, so i was eager to go back and we went last night. Usually i like to sit at the bar because i feel more immersed in the experience, however we were shown to a table. That's not a big deal though - as long as i can reach the plates, it's all good. It's quite a big space, and has an airy feel. We were promptly given (ice) water. Which of course is standard in most restaurants but i don't drink it if it's got ice. We ordered drinks (Pepsi - no ice, please) and told our server we'd be dining from the belt, and could i have some Wasabi. She brought that quickly for me. I now know that i must mix my wasabi with soy sauce, i learned a long time ago, with a nostril searing experience when i first came to the USA "Ooh look at the pretty green stuff!" I learned that the pretty green stuff has an unexpected and vicious effect when you breathe out through your nose. The selection was definitely not as good as pre-covid, however, we were one of the 1st diners, and as the restaurant started to fill up, the chef was adding more dishes to the belt. The dishes however were as good as i remember. Yes, it's Westernized Sushi, and not a true Japanese authentic Sushi experience, where you sit at a bar, and a Sushi Master with 40 years experience makes your dishes right before your eyes, and personally hands them to you, one after the other, no choices involved - you get what he gives you, and no mixing your wasabi with your soy - he puts a smear on the piece itself if he feels it needs it. This place is a trip. It's sort of beginners sushi... It's frankly not very well made. Buuuut it's cheap. Some of the cheapest sushi in Anchorage if you get it off the Revolving Bar. Conversely, the sushi on the menu is priced outrageously and is not worth it. Basically, come here for the cheap, mediocre sushi on the bar. It's cheap, fast and convenient. Oh and fun! And makes you DIZZzzzyYyyyy trying to read the damn signs LOL I should mention, I don't care for nigiri, but looking at the way it was prepped, it was cut WAY too thick and looked terrible. But if you don't mind huge slabs of fish- go for it. The rolls were tasty, but to echo what some others said, some of them were falling apart, but they were cheap as hell, so I'm not going to complain. I really liked that I could see what I was getting prior to purchase and I didn't have to agonize over the menu, and I could get really small portions. Our annual Valentine's Day trip to the revolving sushi bar started to be very upsetting. The whole point of us going to the revolving sushi bar is to enjoy the REVOLVING SUSHI BAR... We would often stack upwards of 20-30 of those little plates in front of us. DISCLAIMER: we love food. To our dismay, the revolving bar was not in use - thanks COVID. We did not let this ruin our, what turned out to be, lovely linner (lunch/ dinner). When we walked in we were warmly greeted and sat immediately. There was only one party of 3 in there when we walked in, when we are use to a bustling atmosphere. Come to find out we were there at the latter part of their lunch hours - but they stayed open, me thinking... they will take what they can get now a days. I ordered the Hella Hot #2 on a whim since we were the only people in there to order, the waitress was quite attentive. The only difference between 1 & 2 is that 1 was deep fried. The fiancé ordered beef bulgogi and the Mt. McKinley #1 roll. The difference between 1 & 2 is, 1: topped with spicy tuna && 2: topped with spicy crab meat. We started with the salad starter which had an awesome soy ginger sauce on it which was delish, but I was missing the tobiko which is sometimes added to those salads. We also received 2 miso soups. Like stated before, Kelly don't share her miso soup. The soup was a little mild, maybe made with a little lighter miso paste but was surprisingly hot, temp wise, which was welcoming. The hella hot roll had spicy tuna inside and a pile of spicy crab topped with a jalapeño and dot of sriracha sauce & a sweet glaze. Not the best I've ever had, but still tasty && def not HELLA hot, very mild 7/10. The bulgogi the fiancé ordered was going off! It was cooked to perfection, med. rare, && was nice big meaty chunks. It had amazing flavor def 10/10. Trust me this will not disappoint! The MT McKinley roll had great flavor: deep fried && filled with crab meat, avo, cream cheese (which I didn't know till plopping it into my mouth/ lactose intolerant here), topped with spicy tuna, tempura flakes && lots of them, sweet glaze and spicy mayo. The roll defiantly got lost a little with the amount of tempura flaxes they heavy handed on top of the roll but over all 9/10. Overall a good trip considering. Went for lunch on a Friday. There were only three other tables so plenty of room and not busy. Didn't know the revolving part was only after 5pm. No real lunch specials, the server pointed to bento boxes. No sushi boats, just expensive sushi & sashimi or combination options. $64 for 12 piece sashimi. So went with three $20 rolls instead, felt like a much better value for a party of two. They were good, the jalapeño popper, American eagle, rainbow roll #1. We're forever in search of a substitute for the Ronnie Roll. I will never go back for lunch but I'm still interested in dinner with the small plates on the conveyor belt. No need to wait for anyone or even open a menu! Plates are color-coded by price. They have lots of creative options. Even though I'm not a "sushi guy", many of the types of sushi they have here are types I like: lots of tuna, stuff with jalapeno, kimchi, eel, etc. I don't find sushi all that filling (not a knock on this place, it's just how I feel about the style of food in general), so it's very easy for be to rack up as big bill here without even realizing it. I was in the mood to hit up one of my old favorite spots, and I was surprised to see how much it changed. There's no conveyor belt right now; it makes sense but I was a little bummed. The tradeoff is that it seems like the quality of their sushi improved a lot. I used to go here when I felt like eating less traditional sushi, the stuff that's more 'Americanized'. While it wasn't the most traditional it hit the spot for what it is. Now, however, OEC is knocking it out of the park. I went easy and still semi-americanized with a Rainbow Roll, because every sushi place can make a rainbow roll so it's a good measure of quality for me. I also ordered the Cherry Blossom to go with it, the picture was just too good! It was fantastic! Both the rainbow roll and the cherry blossom were perfect for me. That's a lot of sushi for one person in a sitting but I had no problem cleaning it up. I can't wait to go back and explore some more of their food. The environment is very comfortable. Tables were spaced out and partitions are put up, and it seems like all of the staff wear masks. I'm glad to see OEC open and making awesome sushi. read more

This is a great spot to eat a quick lunch. You can get in, sit down, and start eating right away. You just grab the rolls from the conveyor belt as get to work. On a first visit, I'd want to know that the colored plates correspond with plates with prices hanging on the pillars inside of the area where the sushi chefs are making sushi. Prices range from 1.95 (yellow) to 4.95 (purple, I think). Wasabi tasted weird. Like it was old or not homemade or something. Just had a sort of metallic taste to it. It was weird. They kept the water glasses filled. The sushi was tasty. It did seem to fall apart rather easily. I've never had sushi that didn't stay together long enough for me to pick it up with my chopsticks and deliver to my mouth. On a couple occasions, I had to eat a piece in two or three bites... which was weird. The Kim chi was the best part. It was very tasty and fresh. I love this place. I have enjoyed sushi in Japan, S. Korea and many US states. When I moved to Anchorage I tried almost all of the sushi places and was very disappointed. I gave up. Then, I realized I hadn't tried OEC. Shame on me! It turned out to be the best in Anchorage and my second favorite in the world. The owner is such a generous friendly man. The sushi chef with the hat is just *chef's kiss*. And the wait staff has been full of wonderful folks that I looked forward to seeing. The rolls are really good. I wish I had a recent photo. I am partial to salmon and had been disappointed (back in 2017) that most sushi places barely had it on the menu. OEC has plenty :-) If I had the money, I would order from OEC 3x a week. Do not dine in with a 1 year old child that might raise his voice in excitement over the upcoming food. Seated with family and before I could even finish my first bite of the first plate from the revolving belt an older gentleman making sushi told us if our baby is going to keep raising his voice we will be kicked out. Mind you we didn't even get to finish our first plate and I had just ripped up a crab Rangoon for my baby to start eating. We were disgusted with the treatment of this older gentleman and other customers also told him how rude he was making that remark as we obviously left. Had a great dinner - the old favorites are there and some new sushi rolls have been added that were really tasty. The dish prices have gone up but that's the case everywhere we go. And where else can you go and be able to try so many different rolls vs. just getting one or two or three to share. Appreciated the variety and the service was outstanding. Our server was so friendly and attentive. I tried the Orange Chicken and the only improvement I would recommend is a little more orange sauce but other wise the portion was just the right amount and it was hot and fresh. If you want sushi and you want it now! Please go to the place. You sit at a chair at the wrap around sushi bar. On the bar is a conveyor belt that has all kinds of sushi rolls on it, from inexpensive little bites to larger more complicated rolls. Each roll is on a color coded dish that represents each pricing point. The chart is in plain view so you can see it. In addition to rolls, there are beverages and desserts. Its really fun on a first or second date. My only gripe with this place is that it is really easy to rack up a big bill. It may seem cheap but to really get full you might find yourself keep grabbing more and more, so its good to keep good tally on what you are ordering if you don't want a huge bill. What I found out is this place is pretty expensive comparing how much food you actually get for the price. You would come off better going to a regular sit down order off the menu sushi joint. But if money is not an issue and the sky's the limit. This place is much fun, I love experimenting on new rolls that I have never tried before. When I lived in Portland, I would go to rotating sushi every week. I loved that you can pick and choose different sushi rolls without having to commit to an entire roll. When I moved back to Alaska, I saw that Anchorage also had a rotating sushi joint, but it wasn't the same. The plates are 2 1/2 times more expensive and the vibe just isn't the same. You get half the food for three times the price, but hey, you get what you get in Alaska. I had a dinner date there last night and spent $50 for two people. That's without alcohol. Those little plates add up my friends. If you're looking for a quick meal of sushi, come here. Just make sure to count your plates while you eat. read more

This is Anchorage's only revolving sushi bar. Their menu is a tad bit on the expensive side. They have a pretty decent selection of sushi on the revolving belt. It isn't the freshest that I've tasted, but makes a decent snack. The staff is really nice and welcoming. There's not lack in customer service. I like their coconut roll, but tasted better when they opened. I believe they need to switch up what's on the belt because they've had the same thing since they've opened. read more

OEC Revolving Sushi is the only revolving sushi bar in town, so if you are looking for an experience driven meal, this would be a good one. The food is pricy, even for sushi, but the weekday lunch specials make it worth the while. I usually end up here in the summer after a morning TitleWave run, for a lunch with friends. The sushi itself is pretty standard fair, presented in small portions, though the Tiger Rolls are amazing (in my opinion). I appreciate that I can grab some chocolate cakes, some banana rolls, and a Ramune all along with my sushi, so the variety you can get here is nice. Be aware that different colour plate represent different prices, which are showcased on the pillar in the front. Along that same thought, if you are going out with friends and are planning on separate checks, make sure to stack your plates separately. Atmosphere is good, the food is decent, the variety is great, the service is standard, and the LUNCH prices are decent. We grabbed the ocean salad and the soy beans for a starter, but I decided to order off the menu for lunch since I didn't want any rice or other carb-y foods. The problem was the server didn't come back. I tried to order from one of the 3 sushi makers behind the line, but they said no, order from the waiter. I waited for a long time and almost decided not to eat lunch until one of the chefs said loudly, You want to order something? to get the waiter's attention and I was able to order the sashimi. When it came it looked good. The salmon was super fresh. Unfortunately, the tuna was a bit stringy and when I looked at the plate there was a pink dye left behind from the tuna. I didn't like that. So, based on the service, which was done with a smile but took forever, and the not fresh food with dye, I will pass this place up in the future. Having bartended, served, cooked, bussed and expedited for 5 years through college I learned a lot about food and hospitality. The food here is a little above average. The rolls are totally edible without complaint, but in a town that is saturated with Sushi joints it is nothing to write home about. That's really all there is to say about the food. Oh oh, before I forget, it's over priced too. As far as hospitality, there is a lot of kinks to work out here. The place is really disoragnized which leads to long ticket times and many mixed up orders. This is a family run joint and they have a "my way or the highway" type attitude toward their customers and staff. I've definitely had a cook and server arguing back and forth as food for another table was passed over our heads, like wtf mate? While I enjoy the novelty of sushi on a belt it seems their placement strategies are poorly developed because it takes a looooong time for the roll you want to come around (if it even makes it to your table). General ambiance here is pretty comfortable but unless I'm starving and right outside this place I probably wont be going back. I am just a huge fan of revolving sushi bars. I will try one anywhere, I know they are huge in Seattle so we got to try a few, this place pretty much compares to any that I have been too. For the previous reviews, of course this isn't going to be your top notch sushi, it by far is not the sushi you buy in a package at the grocery store either, i believe it is between the two. It is just okay sushi of course. I think their rolls are much bigger sized then a grocery store sushi and again smaller than places like sushi ya, but you are paying alot cheaper then there as well, a roll is not $16.00 so you can't expect much. I had four plates, i tried the bacon ranch, not my favorite but it was interesting and different, hence why i tried it. I also had the goya cream cheese, nothing fancy here, they could fill them a bit more for the $2.75 they are for just two. I tried the lobster and shrimp I believe and i loved it! I didn't get a second one cause i wanted to save room for something else. I tried a shrimp tempura style something and it was good as well. I really want to hit this place up for their lunch special M-F 1100-300 of everything is $2.75 or less. I'm really wanting to see if they make the rolls smaller or just give you two instead of three pieces per plate. The most expensive plate at dinner is $4.95 and most plates do run the $4.25 and $4.95 prices. They have a punch card too make sure you get one, every $10 you spend after 10 stamps i believe you get $10 off your next meal, its better than nothing. I was a little sad that i didn't know about this prior, i would've made room for one more plate to jump my $16.40 up to $20.00 for that second stamp. All in all a go to place for entertainment and a different sushi experience. read more
