Don't remember if I reviewed this place before but this is a cute little shop which does nothing but waffles - a great menu of both savoury and sweet ones. I haven't come in a long time because I felt they took a really long time to make them but this time - perhaps cuz it's a rainy January day - there was no long line or wait, everything came pretty quick. We had the cinnamon apple one with ice cream and the chorizo and bacon savory one. Both are pretty good especially the chorizo and bacon as the hollandaise and sauce just goes really well with it. Local waffle shop with extremely nice and friendly service and the densest waffles I've ever eaten. It's like eating a bagel that got turned into a sweet waffle. The waffle toppings are tasty, but be sure you want a very dense waffle and not a light/airy waffle before you decide to come here! Also, the prices here are pretty high. $18 for a waffle with blueberries and strawberries on it! Considering how close by and cheap Wonderffle is ($2.75 for a plain waffle and $12 for a waffle that's overflowing with fruit), I don't think I'd come here unless I was craving a waffle when Wonderffle is closed and this place is open, but Wonderffle has longer hours as well, except during holidays (this place is open on Christmas Day and is one of the few waffle places open on Christmas in the Vancouver area). read more

Mmmmm, waffles! Just Waffles makes THE BEST waffles in the 'hood! Their waffles were handmade fresh and perfectly made. The toppings were warm so when they melt in the waffle, the waffle becomes fluffy and chewy with the topping flavours. We tried Nutella, Strawberries and Smores. All of which tasted sweet and amazing. Nutella plus banana is always a good combo. But along with warm fresh waffles? Oh yeah, a winner! The Smores were so good with marshmallows! Considering that I haven't had marshmallows in years. The strawberries were wonderful, as well! We got them take-out so we were able to add a little bit of maple syrup at home just because we really wanted something sweet but it isn't really needed. :) Just Waffles were open to dine-in during this time. I adore little gems in the city and you can tell Just Waffles is put together with love. We only had a chance to try the Nutella Waffle with Reese and it was devoured. Sweet and rich, but not too heavy, it was the perfect snack for us. I was full from breakfast so I only took a few bites, but my husband and daughter attacked it after I quickly snapped a picture. There isn't much room to sit so I saw a few take out orders. Parking is all street metered spots out front. Wonderful gem in the middle of Vancouver with the best waffles and bennys I've ever had. The owners, Kathy and Calvin, are some of the nicest folks you'll ever meet, and chatted with us like we were old friends while providing excellent service. We were visiting from Tacoma and were looking for a place to have breakfast on our way to Squamish, and man are we glad we stumbled upon this restaurant. Kathy makes the waffle batter from scratch every day and Calvin rocks the grill like a boss. Seriously, the waffles are so good you don't need syrup, and I HIGHLY recommend the bacon and chorizo benny. The atmosphere is fun and full of teddy bears (we loved the teddy bear cookie jars in the front window). We will definitely be back. read more

I've been to this start-up Waffle Joint a total of 2 times so I will review based on both experiences. I am a big Waffle person so this was a must try. The actual waffle itself was done alright but I prefer mine a tad crispier and the pearl sugar is supposed to shock my tongue. That said, they do a well enough job and there are no other waffle joints in close proximity that delivers anything close. For that, kudos to them. Oh, and the owners are super nice people who really take pride in their product. I wish them the best of luck with this business. The Savoury - I"ve tried the Sweet BBQ Pulled Pork with Swiss Cheese. This one was a surprise winner. The BBQ sauce delivers just the right amount of sweet with a slight tang. Perfect for ribs & now, I must say with waffles. If they ever get their liquor license, would go well with beer. :) Eggs Benny Waffle - For the price point, this one justifies the best bang for your buck. As you are eating this waffle, the bits of sugar from the waffle come through very nicely and a perfect compliment to the Hollandaise Sauce which they do not scrimp on. Fresh Fruit Liege with Whipped Cream - Standard fresh fruit (strawberries, bananas & blueberries). Small shop so I understand not venturing too far out of the box but would have been nice to see some exotic fruits in the mix. Perhaps, it will have be a special customized one. Next time, I'll definitely ask for less of the Whipped. The ice cream you can get with your waffles is a great Vanilla where I can taste the vanilla bean. Definitely not the cheap stuff. If you enjoy your waffles, this is definitely a place to try out. Not an absolute gem for me but for concept, and area, this one is a must try. Cons: small space, makes coming in with big groups problematic, and price is a bit more $$ than advertised but: Pros: Food is good enough to return for, servers are passionate about their product which makes you feel like your opinion matters and they've introduced a concept called Savoury Waffles to Vancouver. Hands down the most delicious and memorable place we ate during our trip to Vancouver. These were the best waffles I've ever had in my life. They were the perfect mix of crunch on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The light maple syrup was sweet and deeply flavorful, it perfectly complimented the simple strawberries on top. When planning out our Vancouver trip, the first breakfast spot I decided on was Just Waffles. As a fan of Belgian liege waffles, I knew I had to try out this highly rated establishment. At first look, it's a small, unassuming restaurant. The parking situation appears to be metered street parking, but the Chinese restaurant, which is closed next door has a parking lot. Don't count on the parking lot to stay available in the future. This is a true mom and pop shop with the only two people serving are the owners. You can tell a lot of love goes into the food by the authentic Canadian owners. They appear to be genuinely grateful for everyone who walks into their restaurant. Now onto the Belgian liege waffles. Wow. WOW! Chewy, doughy texture, a subtle sweetness, generous portions, what's not to love???? I got the strawberries and whipped cream on a traditional liege. If there's only one recommendation I would make for the owners, it would be to use fresh strawberries. I think they utilize frozen strawberries, which does give it a juicier texture, but that's just me. Either way, I'm not there for the fruits, I'm there for the waffles and they need to keep the formula because it works! I had only planned to go to Just Waffles once during our trip, but my boyfriend's little sister insisted we go back, and I don't need to be told twice to eat Belgian liege waffles. The owners remembered us! And we saw they put a pin in New York in their world map of visitors. We were the first family from NYC in their restaurant, what an honor! If you want a fancy breakfast, there are other places in downtown Vancouver to go. But if you want true Canadian hospitality, fantastic food, and a memorable breakfast experience, go a little beyond your bubble and try Just Waffles. You won't be disappointed! read more

This spot is open for takeout during covid. There's currently a plastic screen set up at the counter area so you don't have to worry. The owner was really nice and friendly when I arrived for pick up. As for the food, I was feeling something savoury and got the ham benny. Personally, I think the waffle tastes much closer to a sweet doughnut and would do better with a sweet waffle. Will definitely go back again to try them because of service and taste! read more

I was just visiting Vancouver and I saw so many good reviews for this place, I had to try it out. It's definitely small, with seating for only about 15-20 people. I imagine when it gets busy, this would be annoying but I came on a Saturday at 10 am and there were a few open spots. Coffee and water are self-serve at the front, which I like because I'm never waiting for refills. I ordered the strawberry cinnamon bun waffle, which is a liege waffle with cinnamon baked in, topped with strawberries and cream cheese icing. It was delicious! Overall, the food is great. I took off one star because the waffles took FOREVER to come (and it wasn't that busy) and because they are a little on the pricey side for their size. I would definitely recommend giving Just Waffles a try though, because the taste makes up for it. FYI: they don't take debit, only credit or cash :) read more

A cute little and cozy spot with delicious waffles! I believe the owner said he hand makes his waffles but don't quote me on that one. I ordered the liege waffle with mixed berries and ice cream and it was absolutely wonderful. The waffle itself is perfect. Slightly harder on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside and also the sugar granules mixed within give the waffles a really nice sweet edge but not overpowering. They also have a funky feature on their menu which is the crocodile meat waffle. Kind of like a pizza, it has Cajun flavour in with crocodile meat and cheese all over. This review is from months ago and I've been told currently they do not have the crocodile waffle but crocodile eggs benny! The owners are lovely (not to mention you can meet the friendly and chatty Calvin Klein) ;) They opened in the summertime and I really want to see them succeed! My visits have been on Sunday afternoons and if you go close to closing time they sometimes have a 2-for-1 offer on the remaining waffles! So ladies and gents, if you're on Hastings (just west of Kootenay Loop) on your way home from work/school pop in and grab a treat! If you need a parking spot for a few minutes use the Chinese restaurant lot! My favorite is the brownie waffle, then the cinnamon. The liege waffle is a dessert waffle and is dense, filling and really is a sweet treat! The waffles taste great heated up a bit so I sometimes just take them home but I think they'll do it for you if you ask nicely! I've ordered 50 (diff flavors)and had them cut in half for a work function (and were a hit!) and was a great change from the usual donuts and timbits...but they have since started making smaller sized ones which are a great option! I agree with Brittany's tip. Right now it's a take out type atmosphere but if the Klein's cozied up the place and really made it their own it would make it feel more inviting, ppl may stay, grab a coffee and take another waffle to go! :) The more you have people sitting/lining up in your store/window it will pique passerby interest and my thought is that it would also increase business! I also want to note that there are a few steps that make it not so accessible, but if you are not able to go down the stairs (eg. wheelchair or stroller) wave at them from the window and they will come out and give you a sample...if they aren't too busy and even bring you waffles! I was in Vancouver for a long weekend and unfortunately had a hard time finding satisfying meals. That changed with my last meal before heading to the airport! I randomly came across Just Waffles and fig, well you can't really mess up a waffle, right, so let's do this! What I didn't realize is how AMAZING you could make a waffle!!! I got the Cinnamon Bun Blueberry Waffle...added 2 eggs and a piece of bacon. My BFF got the bacon and baked tomato benny. I can't get over how great it all was! In addition...the owners were a husband and wife team...who can not only cook, but were 2 of the nicest people! Very cute and sweet. If I'm ever in Vancouver again I will definitely be back! The staff out front are wonderful, it's such a friendly and bright and happy place. Coffee is bottomless and brewed fresh... the food, on the other hand, was a HUGE disappointment. The waffles are sweet. They did advise this, but we weren't prepared for how overwhelmingly sweet they are. Tooth-aching, cotton candy, Nanaimo bar sweet. Bready texture, I'm sure we would have enjoyed a dessert waffle here? But the sad microwaved eggs sliding around under a pint of dyed-yellow canned Hollandaise were inedible. The "baked tomato" Benny is not baked, the tomato is raw. It's even raw in the giant photo on the wall, why call it baked? They even imply "it's all baked together" when you can clearly watch the kitchen staff working the microwaves like NORAD central command. The paltry tablespoon of chopped "veggies" consisted of what might have been mushrooms and onions? Overcooked to oblivion. Frankly, I've had better waffles out of my own toaster (leggo my eggo!) and for the $40 for 2 waffles and 2 coffees (taxes and tips included) you can literally enjoy a full brunch at the Salmon House on the Hill (shameless plug for the most unknown and incredible brunch in town). We wouldn't have been so disappointed if the price was aligned with what you get, but it's double, and that's generous. Once again, however, the front staff were wonderful, they took great strides to get the baby's egg (microwaved) perfectly and delivered the moment she started fussing. I'll come back if I'm craving a sugar bomb, perhaps a mountain of whipped cream would provide some balance. In short: avoid the savoury options! read more

I stopped by to try the waffles again and the menu has changed since my last visit. Now it is 3 mini waffles for $5 or $2 each, $5 for a plain waffle or $8 pizza/bennies waffles. There are other toppings you can choose from at an extra cost. Prices include tax. The pepperoni and cheese waffle was great. Super loaded with pepperoni and cheese! I also tried the maple flavoured waffle. I was given the choice for it to be toasted, microwaved or served as is. The maple flavour was faint. I think it would have been better if there was the option to make waffles fresh to order. If you have tried other waffle places (ie Nero), there is a big difference in the flavour experience. I decided to check out Just Waffles for brunch with my family. The place was small with seating only roughly for only about 20 people. It's cozy enough. The food was prepared fresh. The basic waffle are good along with the speciality Waffles. The only downside for me would be price, seems a little high for the portion size you get or the lack of sides meaning I ordered an Eggs Benny Waffle, It would have been nice to have some hash brown on the side to complete it. Great Mom and Pop shop. The customer service is outstanding. The owners are so sweet and helpful. They really know their waffles! The liege waffles that they sell are nice and soft just how I like it. It's like having a fresh donut but better. I've had liege waffles before and didn't like them because they ended up being hard, but these ones are winners. I love how they put different ingredients in the batter as they make them. My co-worker and I came here to grab something for lunch... but also I've been meaning to stop in since we work so close to it. I had the eggs benny waffle, it was so good. My co-worker had the bruschetta also very good. As we were leaving the owners gave us three free waffles to share with our other co-workers so they could also try them (Maple, Nutella and Strawberry). I'm assuming they did this to try and get more business since we work so close, but I love the idea. Why not right!? Get people to try the product your selling especially if they work and live in the neighborhood. If they like it they will tell other people to visit. Word of mouth is the best advertisement.
