I call Dan to install a garbage disposal and was quoted $155 to install it. Dan arrived on time and started to work. I showed him the disposal I bought which I thought I purchased the right one. But I guess I needed one with power cord instead of the disposal without one. He had to modify it which was fine but that costed an extra $25. After he was done he couldn't get it to work. He used his own power cord to check and said he did what he was suppose to do which was to install a disposal but some reason when plugging it in my air switch/it wasn't working. He told me it has to be the the air switch that needed to be switch out now. He packed his stuff and pretty much headed out. Also he wasn't very nice about the situation either. I was stuck trying to figure out how to install a new air switch which I order online. Upon receiving it I started to install it myself. Then to realized he didn't even notice that the plus switch just needed to be push down. If I didn't know how to fix some stuff I would have just hired another person just to know it was a switch issue not that I needed another part that costs another $60 bucks. He isn't cheap either so if you want things fixed right I would hire a plumber next time instead of just a handyman. I also live in a new build so knew it was a easy fix so that's why I thought a handyman would be fine. read more

I was going to replace the overflow cover for my bathtub, but when I unscrewed the screws, they both rusted and broke off. I tried spraying them with penetrating oil then removing them with vise grips. No luck. I called Dan. He came out the next day and determined that he couldn't help me directly. In spite of this he spent quite a bit of time to come up with the best solution - and then instead of trying it and possibly leaving me with a problem, he recommended a plumber. I sent Dan a text to let him know that I called the plumber and that he was working on the problem right then. A couple of hours later Dan texted me to make sure that I was happy with the plumber. I felt like Dan really cared about helping me with my problem - whether it was doing it himself, or by making sure that his referral did a good job. This guy is one of the most rude workers with a attitude I have seen in decades. He came to my condo on time and that was where the good part ended. He quoted me $ 590.00 to replace a screen on a screen door, fix two tube lights and ti change the rollers on a sliding cupboard. The parts would be about $ 150 . Dan is a versatile handyman with a lot of experience. He came on time to repair an old patio door handle and rollers for the door, which were difficult to find replacements for, since they are about 40 years old. He took the time to find the parts, and installed them the next day, again arriving exactly on time. I am pleased with his work and he doesn't overcharge. My father died 2 months ago, and my 87 year-old mother was moving in with me. We needed to install grab bars in the shower for her. The fiberglass tub surround also had a small crack that needed repair. In among all the details of dismantling my parents' home, my mother contacted this repairman to see about doing the install. He quoted a price of $120 per bar, plus the cost of materials. I called him about the repair and he quoted a price of $270. Neither my mother nor I know anything about repair work. And of course, we were in the midst of grief, and the to-do of packing and moving. I asked for a detailed estimate of cost, including an estimate of how long the job would take. While he sent an e-mail reiterating the price, he did not provide any information about the length of time the work would require. This repairman arrived 17 minutes early on the appointed day, and seemed upset with me that I mentioned I wasn't quite ready for him. Even though I said to come on up anyway, he sat in his truck for 15 minutes first, during which I was wondering where he was. After deciding where, exactly, to install the bars, he began to work. At one point, I heard him talking and stepped into the room adjacent to the bathroom, thinking he wanted to say something to me. He was on the phone, talking to another client, saying that he'd received the photos, but could he call later because he was on a job. Not quite two hours later (and this is 2 hours after he arrived; only about 90 minutes after he started work), he said he was going down to his truck to exchange the drill he'd used on the grab bars for a vacuum to get the dust out of the tub preparatory to patching the crack. He was gone for 15 minutes. When he returned, he began work on the crack. Not even an hour later, he said he was going back to his truck while the patch dried, and that it might be 30 minutes. Several minutes later, I went into the bathroom to examine the patch. The crack was still visible; it didn't look like anything had been done. I called the repairman on the phone. He said he was on his way back upstairs. When he arrived, he said he was going to have to come back the next day to paint the patch. When I said that was not at all convenient (since the next day was the day I was scheduled to finish moving my mom in), he shrugged and said he couldn't finish the work that day. Having no other option, I asked for him to return in the morning. At that point, he demanded payment for the grab bars. I'd gotten a check from my mom and explained that. He insisted that I pay him for that day's work, even though he was returning less than 24 hours later to finish the job. This meant that I had to get another check from my mom to pay him for the rest of the work. He took his check and left. It was 2 hours and 50 minutes after he'd arrived. I suspect that he left then to do the other job he'd been discussing on the phone while doing my job. He returned the next day and spent about 10 minutes painting the patch. When he called me in to say he was finished, I examined the patch. It was lumpy and uneven, and it didn't look like he had made any effort to match the paint to the color of the tub. This despite the fact that when I originally talked to him, he made a point to say he was always careful about his work, so he would not be blamed for any problems afterwards. I started to comment about what looked like a poor job. He blamed me for buying a substandard repair kit. I started to say he should have said something about that beforehand and suggested a better product, but he wouldn't let me speak. He ended up leaving without me paying him. I sent the other $270 that same day. So I ended up paying $510 for 3 hours of work, half of which looks terrible. This comes out to an hourly rate of $170. $170 per hour is too high for the quality of the work, and especially too high considering his rudeness. He also tried to ask for a mark-up on the grab bars, even though he'd made no mention of that in his original estimate. He also originally said he was going to buy the bars from his regular distributor. He ended up getting them at Home Depot. Had I known he was just going to go to a box store, I would have cancelled him and had my usual fix-it guy do the work. I'd thought my guy was going to be out of town. I didn't cancel him solely because I thought he'd have trouble returning materials to the supplier. Home Depot would have issued a full refund. I would suggest asking this repairman to quote an HOURLY RATE, rather than a price per project, and INSIST on getting a time estimate. Live and learn. read more

He came out when I needed a repair at my rental. He is behind on the times and doesn't take credit cards and doesn't understand how online bill pay works. When it took five days to receive he was EXTREMELY rude. (and I explained to him that is what I use to pay bills when he didn't take a credit card before he did the work) I offer to do quickpay but he doesn't even have an email. I personally would not recommend him nor will I ever use him again for how RUDE he is. There's so many other people out there that will appreciate your work that needs to completed and would want repeat business. Also he doesn't understand english well. I asked him to do a few things and was only able to complete one and then gave me an attitude when I asked about the others and said I never told him when I clearly did twice before he went to my place. I contacted him because I just bought an old house and have lots of projects that need work. We talked on the phone, he took my name, phone # and address, and then I emailed him the list as agreed. He said he would read the list and let me know which projects he is interested in. A week went by and no response. So I emailed him again to ask if he'd had a chance to review it, and got an email back saying "I'll pass this project." We have a custom built-in corner TV cabinet that did not allow for us to accommodate a larger TV without adjustments to the two-level cabinet. Since the tile flooring goes right up to the cabinet, the only solution was to cut the cabinet down and make it all one level. In addition, a gas valve for the fireplace needed to be rerouted from inside the cabinet to the outside. Dan came the same day I called him, thought through each step of the process carefully, and took on the challenge of remaking a custom cabinet into a "new" custom cabinet. I am so thrilled with the job he did, I keep standing in front of it and admiring what was accomplished. Not only was his workmanship amazing, but Dan is very pleasant to work with, has a fun sense of humor, and I felt his price was reasonable. Now all we need is the new TV!!
