My friend and I stopped in during the Argyle activation walk event. We split: -Bánh Khọt Tôm - Crispy Shrimp Mini Cakes -$12 -Bánh Mì Thịt Heo Nớng - Grilled/BBQ Pork Sandwich with an egg- $5.75 (maybe even more to add the egg) -Hanoi style egg coffee- $6 Everything came out to over $30 after tip!! O_O I think the crispy shrimp appetizer was good! It was all fresh and had good flavor, but it was expensive as an appetizer. The banh mi was good too! It was not a typical banh mi, but I did like it. It was missing the pickled horse radish which usually gives banh mi really great flavor. The jalapenos were spicy though!! Very good haha And you can add an egg to the sandwich too. The one thing I wish this banh mi was is bigger. For $5.75 and compared to the prices on their menu, it's pretty decent. But this banh mi is probably half the size of other banh mi you can get on argyle for the same price. The egg coffee, pretty unique! I'm glad I tried it, but I don't know if I'd order it again just because it's $6 for an 8 oz drink. As for the atmosphere and service, the owner of the restaurant is really friendly and I really like that the restaurant is family owned and small. I will say, it is slightly awkward walking through the kitchen to use the bathroom because there is no space when they are preparing the dishes and you are in the way... But I'm glad they do let customers use the restroom. Also, if you do want some food items that they posted on their Instagram, they might not be available on their menu. Maybe they were just a special or a trial item. There were a few things I really wanted to try that I saw on their Instagram, but the waiter said they unfortunately couldn't make them. Overall, the food is pretty good, the prices are too high for me, but it was a good experience. Would I go back? Maybe... I grew up on argyle food and there are other restaurants that I do prefer going to that have lower prices. read more

DaNang Kitchen has a lot of things on the menu you're not going to find anywhere else in Chicago. Mi quang, banh khot, bun dau... Unfortunately I was dining alone on this tornadoey night (the sirens went off as I was eating - I kept eating and the staff kept packaging their pickled veggies at the next table) and was only able to try the mi quang (and a pickled yuzu lemonade). The lemonade was a fun spin on the classic chanh muoi and I like it when places blend up the whole pickled rind so tasty little pieces come up your straw every so often. The mi quang was... not bad. In a lot of ways it was great. A thick complex broth, kind of a Vietnamese tsukemen. Really fresh and plentiful shrimp. Perfectly cooked noodles. But there really wasn't enough broth to flavor the whole dish, the quail eggs tasted a little off, and the pork was very tough and difficult to chew (though there was a lot of it). It was also quite expensive for the portion size. I'm one of those people who usually has to take leftovers home, and I didn't here, and I think the bowl cost $16. My solo dinner was $30. However, given that it has things I'm not going to get anywhere else, and the flavors were on point (and I live down the street) I will be back! read more

Danang Kitchen does. not. miss. I've eaten here multiple times now, making an effort to try something new each visit. Every single time I am impressed and thoroughly satisfied. Danang Kitchen has many delicious Vietnamese classics, and has also introduced me to delicious central-Vietnamese dishes like Mì Quảng and Bún Bò Danang. I cannot emphasize this enough: everything here is good. The Mì Quảng is my favorite dish of what I've tried, and it is pretty much mind-blowing. They make a mean Cà Phê Sữa Đá (Vietnamese Iced Coffee) here as well, and I say that as someone who has had many many Vietnamese Iced Coffees in my days. My parents are also huge fans of Danang Kitchen, and that means a lot as they grew up in Vietnam and have lots of experience with the cuisine. When they returned to Chicago, the first thing they wanted to do was eat at Danang Kitchen! The owner is very warm and knowledgeable, and the restaurant uses very high quality ingredients: fresh bún, USA-made mắm tôm, etc. The restaurant isn't enormous, but there is a good amount of seating and lots of natural light. Danang Kitchen is quickly becoming my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Chicago, and I will definitely be returning and bringing lots of friends and family with me :-). read more

There is a lot of stiff competition in uptown specifically on Argyle when is comes to finding the perfect bowl of Delicious pho. I can honestly say DaNang is one of my favorites. You can tell a lot of Care energy went into the creation and presentation of the broth. I would also like to mention that the interior of this restaurant is extremely clean. Everything down to the details so what they are watching on television goes to show they care gone into this Vietnamese cuisine. I will say that they did not have very many vegetarian options I was hoping that they would have at least veggie egg rolls however the potstickers were a good substitute. The broth was by far the star of the dish it was so Succulent in flavorful it had the perfect hent of spice. My only complaint was the wait. Exceptionally delicious Vietnamese Coffee! We recently chose visit Danang one evening for Vietnamese Coffee after a very filling Japanese Dinner in Evanston with friends. We each ordered a hot coffee sweetened with condensed milk, and the coffee was superb! This family-owned restaurant is a real gem, and the service is very friendly, informative and efficient! This place was good! A bit pricey in my opinion and I will say my only qualm is that after trying four dishes...there's a lot of fish sauce in everything. Like a lot. To a point where I couldn't finish a dish cause I was so fish sauced out but that could be our own fault, as the menu is huge and there are plenty of other dishes to try and more variety in taste. Overall though, had a positive experience here! The shrimp cakes were decent- a little too oily and overpowering with fish sauce (again) for me, but I enjoyed trying them. I absolutely loved the papaya salad- the papaya was so fresh, with a mix of tangy and spicy flavor. The chicken with the rice was moist and the skin was so crispy. Bánh Mi Chão was a dilectable experience and is available only for a limited time. As featured on instagram at @Danang_Kitchen, the sizzling meat was buttery soft and the pork pate was full of flavor that complimented the fried eggs. The meal was all pulled together by a delicious crisp baguette that served as a vehicle for the rich bone marrow. An amazing meal for anytime of day, but is only available Sunday, TOMORROW. I don't say this lightly but DaNang Kitchen may be the best Vietnamese restaurant I've been to and I've been to a lot of them around the country - including in fountain valley! This isn't your run of the mill pho or banh mi shop with the same generic menu. The chef takes extra care to curate a menu that is representative of the Danang region and ensures every dish is plated nicely and rocking some crazy flavor. This is a family run restaurant and they really make you feel at home and Sydney the owner is a fantastic host. If you have questions about what you should order don't hesitate to ask her and she'll guide you to something delicious. Below is a review of what we've had so far. Danang signature noodle: sooo good, def a party in your mouth. Be sure to ask for the special soupy sauce to give these noodles an extra tangy and spicy punch. Papaya salad: oh man this might be the best papaya salad I've had. The papaya was julienned very fine and were so crunchy. Lots of bright acid, freshness of the mint, texture of the beer jerky/almonds, and just the right touch of spice made this dish really stand out. Wings: also excellent and even better when paired with the papaya salad Grilled pork dishes: the meat marinade they use is fantastic and you really can't wrong with any dish featuring marinated grilled meats. Pho: pretty good but if you need to scratch your pho itch but not as unique as the dishes mentioned above unless you get the oxtail version which is different and amazing. Sydney recommends the short rib version also - which we'll have to get next time. Bun bo: this is a good option if you haven't tried bun bo yet and want a break from pho. We live an hour away but find ourselves finding excuses to drive into Chicago so we can grab some food from this fine establishment. Do yourself a favor and please check this place out! read more

Was craving Vietnamese food on a Monday evening and my friend had been raving about DaNang Kitchen so my boyfriend and I went to try it out. It's a very small restaurant but it was pretty quiet at 7 PM. I appreciate that this restaurant has a small and concise menu that highlights their favorites, small plates, noodles, drinks, and desserts. Other restaurants with large menus are super overwhelming and lead to decision paralysis. I knew what I wanted after looking through the menu. Came in on a cold Saturday night around 8pm. The place was about half full. Right away, I was able to get a table and take a look at the menu. From previous Yelp reviews, I knew I had to get the mi quang. It was my first time trying this dish and I really liked it (thanks Yelp)! The broth was very rich and complemented the noodles, meat, and eggs perfectly. I don't remember seeing this dish at other Vietnamese restaurants I've been to, so I definitely recommend coming here and trying the mi quang! Service was friendly and quick as well. This is one of my favorite spots in Argyle (the hood). I have tried the dry vermicelli noodles with Fish sauce and grilled meat in each and every restaurant in Argyle. This is my favorite one. Im just obsessed with the dish and I have it once a week. This spot serves in my opinion the best in the block. I often order the grilled pork one, they offer other meat options and probably vegetarian with tofu. They always treat us nice here and come to our table to talk to us, offer us extra spicy home made sauces and more. Other dishes here are also very good, the Phos are all good, and the spring rolls are also very good. I love the place, specially for Lunch! Feels like a family-run-bis. I went in an the place was empty. I asked if they expected any big parties, it is Saturday. She said no so I took the big table in the window. It was a good table and had a good view of the street. It was not the huge menu that the other Vietnamese restaurants around have but it as sufficient . I ordered what they called Summer rolls that I call Spring rolls. They were generous and had a different sauce. I am used to peanut sauce but this was sweet. I will get back to this. they were very tasty. On the menu I was tossed up about a main dish. The soup selection was tempting but the noodle section had one that had their noodles that they are known for. I had to try that dish. The noodles were rice and I usually like glass noodles but these were very good. The dish had beef and large shrimp. I am not supposed to have shrimp but the description looked so good that I had it anyway. It smelled heavenly and even the shrimp were wonderful. There were some cracker type of thing on the side that were good enough that I would have eaten a ton of them. The dish had a lot of vegetables with some on the side to add. It was a real treat to eat there. Being an old man I always go to the restroom before I leave. On the way back I met the chef. I asked about the sauce replacing the peanut sauce. He told me that they serve an almond sauce because his son was allergic to peanuts so they had nothing with peanuts in the restaurant. I had actually figured something like that. The chef, an older fellow, was personable and j]had the feel to him of a man that really knew the kitchen and food. It was a wonderful meal. The prices were fair. Toward the end of my meal 5 young people came i and sat in the middle of the restaurant. As I was returning to my table 3 more ladies came in. I usually sit and read but the table was so nice and I knew the younger folks would love it. I told them that the table would be free as soon as I could leave, They were polite and gave me a feel for the place that even the customers were worth sharing a restaurant with. I wished I discovered this new gem sooner! Ordered for delivery: Mi Quang, Bun Bo Da Nẵng, Com Ga Hai Nam, & com Suon. ALL were exceptional! First of all, presentation of each item was meticulously beautiful. Very rare for takeout at a Vietnamese restaurant. The portions were perfect. All the ingredients were fresh. Flavors were balanced and not overwhelmingly masked with spices. Also love that they don't have a long huge menu. They focus on just about 10 main dishes, which guarantees freshness of all ingredients. I called to order for takeout again and was told they sold out of the Com Ga Hai Nam. Which shows they only cook with fresh chicken! I live by West Rogers Park, where most restaurants on Argyle would not deliver. Thankfully DaNang Kitchen does, I hope this wouldn't change. Ever since I found this place back in July, I find myself continuing to come back for their amazing Vietnamese food! I still stand by my previous review and wanted to further update it slightly. My boyfriend and I actually came in yesterday for dinner. However, my main intention was to go and order a decent amount of an appetizer dish for the following day for a potluck at my clinical rotation site as I am currently in pharmacy school. I know for larger orders that a lot of restaurants prefer that you gave them at least a 24-hour notice just so that they can make sure they can prepare your food on time. Because this was somewhat of a last minute decision, I thought I'd ask if I could order 5 orders of the shrimp summer rolls and would not be butt hurt if they told me "no" since it was my fault that I didn't give them enough notice. But alas! They said they were able to do it for me but it might take a bit to make but the wait was worth it. We ordered dinner (2 M3s, which is their rice plate) and Thai teas to sip on while we waited for the big order. The rice plate was so delicious that both my boyfriend and I devoured our plates, with no stones left unturned. We didn't even wait that much longer in my opinion. Once we finished dinner, we probably waited like 5-10 extra minutes and the summer rolls were ready! Our server, Alex, was amazing as usual and always has a smile on his face whenever we see him. He was very attentive to us and made sure that we were enjoying our food! Kudos to Alex, we love you! Hopefully you didn't find it weird when I asked for your name lol.
