We went to this restaurant down the cape in the middle of winter on a week night & they were packed. Seemed to be a popular place for residents, service was still timely. Went last night on a date. Was looking for a quite place with some nice atmosphere. Had been here a while ago and thought I would give it a shot. The bar was a bit crowded and after politely trying to get the bartender's attention for several minutes, I had to resort to the "HEY!" method. She took our drink orders. My date went with a white sangria and I went with a cab. Unfortunately, they only had one cab by the glass and it was way sweeter than my palate would bear. Either immature or from a bad bunch of fruit. My date was unimpressed with the white sangria and switched to riesling. We did eventually get a place to sit at the bar and it was a good place to share some conversation and get to know someone. If you're going here for a date, suggest you stick to beer or mixed drinks. Didn't try the food and probably will not be back. read more

This was a really really cute Inn in Sandwich. My family met up with family friends for lunch recently and we had a blast. The spot was really cute (and I can imagine that the 'conservatory' area is really lovely in the snow as it was plenty lovely anyway. The food was quite delicious and for a place with a rather wide menu, this was great. I had a wrap sandwich and I really liked it (and the fries were also quite good). For dessert, they nicely let me have a kid's sundae...at $4, probably a little steep, but tasty nonetheless. Overall, really fun and a really nice spot. Check out the fun area in front where you can learn all about having to sit in the stocks (well, wasn't fun during that times they were used, I'm sure!), but it's neat to have it and there's an information plaque. Love this place. Excellent service and very classy. Bruce the bartender is great and very attentive. Food is awesome! The lobster roll comes on a toasted, buttered brioche bun and it's massive. Quaint and lovely inside bar and restaurant, bright and romantic outside seating. Lovely exterior, dated, but in a sweet way; reminiscent of the former inn's ambience that burned down in the 1970's. I taste-tested their specialty martinis like one would a box of chocolates (the pear and white chocolate raspberry were especially tasty), each one as delicious as the last. The food, shockingly, was even better. Their lobster grilled cheese and chicken pot pie were incomparable! Overall, excellent restaurant. The inn itself had an equally elegant-yet-homey feel. The Dan'l is the type of place that serves consistently good food. However, the wait staff is always a crap shoot. Sometimes you get a waiter or waitress that is super and the next time we go we get the worst person ever. We have sat at the bar and it is busy on the weekends. The free cheese and crackers in the tavern is fun to munch on while sipping a couple adult beverages (what lease would you drink at a bar!). read more

Every three months we make a special trip to Daniel Webster to take my 92 year old father out for breakfast in the Conservatory at a table by the water. I always make a reservation and ask to be by the window. We have done this for YEARS but when we went today, again with a specific reservation, we were told they had booked the entire Conservatory and we'd have to be in the other dining room. The manager told me he had called me an hour before our reservation to let us know the change, but we were already on the road and didn't get the message. Now if you had booked the Conservatory for a very large group, wouldn't you know more than an hour before that our reservation was a problem? Very disappointed...stayed for breakfast but no hot chocolate, terrible coffee and annoyance prevailed... read more

Amazing lobster chowder, and the food was all expertly prepared. I dont know all the ins and outs of flavor combinations, but you could tell that the chef did. Both of our dishes were best with all of the various things on the plate eaten together. We went here for dinner while staying at the Daniel Webster. I had the Salmon and my daughter had the lobster soup and both were wonderful. The decor in the green room is beautiful and it is nice to see outside when eating. The natural sunlight was great! The only issue we had was more service oriented. Went there on a Saturday night to celebrate a birthday. They were very busy and service was somewhat slow. Food was very good. Good prices.

The service wasn't good at all, it was completely empty and not even like that the waiter made an effort. We asked for the filet mignon and it came up burned and very dry. We couldn't eat it. The place is very beautiful and they play good classical music. I would not recommend this place. read more

My wife and I live in Sandwich and I've been coming to the Dan'l Webster Inn for years and years. I've seen a major change in the restaurant... Not for the good for the past couple years. I really like the bar and the tavern here but I've experienced a lot of inconsistency in the food quality and quantity. Most recently i've had two experiences where we didn't have reservations were told that it would be about half an hour before we could be seated (even though half the restaurant looked empty) and we waited and we waited... Half an hour goes by and they tell us so it will be about another half an hour? This is happened twice I can promise you it won't happen a third time we're going to start going to restaurants that support locals who support the restaurants year-round. read more

I had a gift card for $25 that I had received for The Daniel Webster Inn in Sandwich, MA. The parent company is Catania. I received the gift card ( which I believe gift cards have a seven year valid shelf life) early 2021. Because of the Covid 19 pandemic we did not visit any restaurants.I also have Diabetes which put me at risk for in person restaurant visits. This past Sunday November 6, 2022 we traveled from Norton, MA to Sandwich, MA to go for lunch. I planned on using the gift card. We ordered and when the bill came I presented the $25 gift card. I was told by the manager , that there was no value to the gift card. I told the manager thats doesn't seem right as gift cards have a 7 year exparation period and it had only been about a year. I was told that normally the manager had discretion to do something for the customer. I was also told that the restaurant was being sold in about a week and she as a manager was told she can not do anything for customers by upper management. That in itself was poor customer service and customer relations. I called Catania home office on Monday November 7, 2022. The office constantly went to vm. I contacted the Director of Operations at Catania. Very Rude.!! When I told him I could not get to the Cape during the Covid 19 Pandemic - he was dismissive. Said there was an expiration date - didn't care if the date passed said nothing he could do - it expired. Told me I should have called the restaurant before I left the house. He said the management staff at the restaurant mishandle the situation - would look into it but he wouldn't do anything for me as a customer. read more

Recently stayed at the Dan'l Webster Inn for a family reunion locally. June 2017 Below where some issues sent to general manager and he never got back to me with a reply. Bird flew daily in to window starting at 6:30am through mid day. Bed end board low and protrudes 6" out to sides and out from end of mattress. No working night light in room. Just had neck surgery and hit end board twice fell to ground once. Badly bruised and sore. Hot water took five minutes for shower to get hot and with in another five minutes went cool while taking shower!!! Night light in bedside table did not work. Clock was set 20 minutes fast. Not easy to fix clock. Dated rooms. Wall covering, paint, etc. Hotel rough all around. Pelting paint, rusty hardware, broken stairs, etc. Have recent neck surgery had to lay down often, no do not disturb sign for door. And maids disturbed. Please bring back the old caesar salad recipe! The one with shaved parmigiana and delicious dressing. Sweet Tomatoes Pizza has the caesar salad that Dan'l Webster used to have. Do better! The hamburger was good. The kung pow cauliflower was laden in sugary sauce that overpowering, less would definitely be more here. Service: We asked the waiter if the wings were spicy and was told she didn't know, she hadn't tried them. Strange response. How about something like "I'm not familiar yet with that recipe, let me run and ask". I also asked if they had any specialty Mocktails. Not an inkling or suggestion. Please get with the times. It shouldn't be either alcohol or a shirley temple. Pilot House has a delightful Mocktail with watermelon, club, lime and basil. Check it out. Ambiance: We saw the sign that there was patio seating. So out we went. The "patio" is a narrow space between two buildings. No view, no sun. Not ideal. It was around 5:00 and a wonderful time for a breeze and some sun. Not here. We walked out the path to the pool area and it was lovely with nice landscaping, then back to the damp patio and had an "ugh" feeling. We are locals and have dined here more times than we can count. We've had guests stay here also who loved it (86 and 88 year olds). Overall, needs a revamping so the 50 something crowd will be loyal patrons for the next 30 years! Please get back on track with the excellent quality food and service that the DW was known for. We want it to work! read more

Beautiful ambiance, moderate prices, decent New England food, but the stiff and slow service ruined the experience for us. Waited 20 minutes for water (they weren't obviously busy) and to give our food order and another 45 for it to arrive. My husband's fish sandwich was excellent, as was my daughter's pot pie, but my onion soup arrived to the table burned. Hard not to see that the bread and cheese were charred. I realize lots of restaurants are suffering from short staffing in the pandemic but the wait and the inconsistent quality will keep us from another try. read more

It's a lovely inn with a very attractive restaurant. The breakfast food is quite terrible. The home fries are sweet. They're basically boiled potatoes sauteed and doused with ketchup. The hash also has ketchup incorporated into the recipe. They have a pork gravy and biscuits, opposed to sausage gravy. The pork gravy was unseasoned and sweet as if sugar was added. The coffee is sub par. The service was ridiculously slow. The kitchen is not talented or accommodating . I have only had breakfast there, but i can't see a reason to go for dinner considering they can't put out a decent breakfast. Good place to visit, but not a good place to eat. read more

I stayed and dined here in 89 for my honeymoon and went back for a first (and likely last) date. My date lived off Cape so it was a mid spot to meet. The setting continues to offer a rustic colonial experience. It's a little old school with an older crowd. The bartender was very nice but rather slow despite it being a quiet night. I had a Guinness and my date had a few Sam Adams. He asked for a menu to order food. It came 20 minutes later. By the time he came to take our order the food service was almost over. I opted out as I lost my appetite and wasn't into the date at all. That's another story. It was cozy and might be a nice spot for an older couple. Even if I fancied my date, I doubt I'd run back to this spot. read more

Charming old Inn. Really brings you back to a simpler time. Food is excellent. Sandwiches are all served on fresh homemade bread. The Lobster roll is the best I have ever had. Turkey BLTs are delicious as well. Service was top notch as well. Prices are very reasonable, too. The dining room in the back looking out on the fish pond quite enjoyable. I can only grade this place on Sunday brunch, but what a brunch! I can't remember ever going to a buffet where I liked everything, but I really did like everything. Bananas foster French toast, seafood crepes, omelets, waffles, fruit, cheese, salmon, bacon, sausage, all of it was amazing. Truly superior. Worth the trip from wherever it is that you are. Two suggestions: one, make a reservation. This isn't a hidden gem, people already know how good it is. Two, budget for it. My grandparents and I had a lovely lunch here today. The service was excellent (waitress was very patient with my elderly grandparents) and all the food was very good--especially the chocolate cake we had for dessert. The Inn is very cute, and I loved the quintessential New England vibe! I've been to the restaurant 3 times now and can safely say it's consistently OK, but should be much better! The food is ok-good, I've learned to get all sauces on the side as they are heavy handed. They also have a habit of overcooking things but on the flip side they usually have a lot of flavor and the ingredients are quite fresh. Service is spotty too, ranging from fantastic to non-existent. I think 50% of the staff can be a bit on the lax side. It's a solid go-to place for ambiance and a quick bite but expect to pay a bit more than the other area restaurants. read more

The good news about yesterday's lunch at the Daniel Webster Inn: we were seated at a favorite window table in the beautiful atrium, enjoyed an outstanding Cosmopolitan, delicious garden salad and lobster chowder along with yummy warm crusty rolls. Now the very bad news: the smoked salmon and lobster cakes topped with baked stuffed shrimp and hollandaise sauce offered as a special luncheon entree sounded good, so we ordered...big mistake! The dish was accompanied by a not very good rice pilaf and mixed vegetables (just okay), but the cakes were burnt black, top and bottom, mounted with a small, overstuffed shrimp, drizzled with barely a teaspoon of hollandaise sauce. I noticed as we were leaving that nearby diners who had ordered the same entrees were served the same (blackened!) version. As a concession the restaurant removed the cocktail from our bill. Our server was excellent; but someone in the kitchen was not doing their job - to allow those meals to be served was a disgrace and disappointing for a restaurant of that caliber. read more

Not a good place to go for anyone with food allergies. I understand how difficult it is for kitchens to accommodate food allergies and am amazed at how wonderful 99.9% of restaurants are. Specifically, I requested that some chicken breast (which is on the menu) be cooked in a clean pan rather than on the grill to keep it away from foods that I am allergic to, but the kitchen is not able to do so. Space is really nice -- very old, classic and cozy. But I can't comment on the food as I had a plate of dry lettuce for dinner due to the kitchen's inability to cook chicken breast in a pan. read more

The food is good to very good but for the prices they command it should be better. The restaurant does have a very nice atmosphere and service was good. I have been there on multiple occasions and I leave satisfied. I have also stayed overnight and the room was clean and well appointed. I have not used their spa services. The early dinner menu is great for people after gastric bypass or on a severe diet (very small portions). I breakfasted there once and their steel cut oats were superb. We sat in the conservatory. it was not too loud and not too quiet. it was clean and our table had just enough stuff on it that it didn't annoy me. we sat four and started with cocktails. the only minor problem was the waitress forgot my father's olives for his martini. nbd. i ordered the Cesar salad and the butter poached lobster. the salad was your run of the mill Cesar. the lobster was predictable but the peas and sweet potato "bacon" were weird. dont tease me with the bacon. that's insulting. you can just say crispy sweet potato strips. the rest of my table got prime rib, lobster bake, tuna and lobster chowder. all three of them cleaned their plates. this is a lovely place if your on the cape and want to do something other than a seafood shack. i would dare say a great place for a date, but only if you wanna razzle dazzle. read more

This place is a favorite for our whole family. We come here for NYE almost every year. We had quite a few mother-daughter luncheons here last summer during COVID lockdowns. We loved how they expanded the outdoor seating and didn't lose any of the nice touches, friendly hospitality, and perfect food. I have never had a bad experience here in decades. read more

Yummy brunch buffet! We went to the Dan'l Webster Inn (when did it change to Dan'l?) for my Grandma's 80th birthday and had about 15 people. The staff was extremely nice and attentive and treated my Grandma so nicely (they kept wishing her a happy birthday at various points of the afternoon). The decor is very old school 'Cape Cod', which I like. There is a sitting area with a few green leather chairs by a fireplace, which we took pictures in front of. The food was wonderful, especially the 2 seafood dishes that I had. One was a Seafood Crepe that just melted in your mouth and the other was a Haddock topped with a stuffing that made me wish it would magically appear at my table on Thanksgiving. Breakfast items are tough to mess up, but the French Toast banana foster item was a perfect combination of bread and sweetness. Overall, I recommend this place for brunch on the Cape if you are in the area or need a special occasion kind of place. read more

In fact this ancient Inn and Tavern is complete with stocks out front for hilarious pictures mocking early american history, where public shaming for such crimes as "wandering from place to place" instead of "frequenting the publique worship of god." -- Seriously though, the service was great, and the food was delicious. My family and I stopped in yesterday afternoon for beverages and a snack around 3:00 pm. We ( all 6 of us including 2 children 8 & 10) sat at the bar in the Tavern. The kids had something off the kids menu while the adults had either a salad, or French onion soup. We all loved what we ordered, and our server David took great care of us. Lovely little place in a lovely little town! It was accepting of kids, the staff was helpful and accommodating, and the already pretty good food was made better by the discount vouchers we received as guests of the Inn. It has an absolutely beautiful little garden pathway to the pool and hot tub (yay! finally warm!). It was a little pricey and I rather wish the brunch menu had mimosas on it, but no real complaints! On the food, we had delicious choose your own gourmet adventure three-egg omelets (organic, cage free!). Mine was stuffed with goat cheese and caramelized onions, while my friend had goat cheese, mushrooms, and arugula. Another member of our party had the sampler, which looked scrumptious (although the meat is not organic), and the little one was delighted with his chocolate chip pancakes. They mercifully left the coffeepot on our table as well, whether purposefully or on accident.
