Darbar is just three blocks from my home and each time I go there I think "Why don't I come here more often?" Four of us had a delicious dinner on Tuesday night. Samosa and palak tikki for apps, tokri for breads (3 kinds of naan), two salmon tikkas, one panner tikki, one chicken tikki were consumed with relish - and fantastic sauces (rim shot). Service was spot on. There when you needed, gone when you were in deep conversation or laughter. We had complimentary glasses of wine and I had another. Dinner for four adults with extras including tax and 20% tip was $156.00. We had plenty of leftovers to enjoy the next day. We will not wait so long between dinners this time. You cannot beat the convenience and speed of Darbar! I run by this place every day and it's a classic that I go to when I'm craving Indian food in a flash. Their classics (chicken tikka, saag, vindaloo) are all great but I think could use a little more salt sometimes. They definitely make up for it in spice though. This is a review for their takeout. I come here whenever I have a craving for Indian food. It's super close to my house so I place an order usually 30 minutes before I need to pick it up. My usual order is: 1. Garlic Naan ($3.50) - This has a great potential, flavor is great but every time I've gotten it, it's been soggy. Maybe it's because I bring it back home with me as take out. I tried popping these naan into the oven but they were still pretty stale tasting. They do not skimp on the garlic - I like that. 2. Butter Chicken ($16.95) - Tender white chicken cooked in tomato sauce, flavored with touch of fenugreek leaves, and served with white rice. I usually ask this to be extra spicy and it actually has a good kick! I wish it would be a little bit more spicy though... Another complaint is that their Butter Chicken taste too similar to a Tikka Masala. I was expecting more of a creamy, buttery, milder sort of "gravy" curry. Regardless, still delicious and I end up ordering from here again and again! I did see a sign for AYCE lunch buffet so I will be back to try that! In a world gone made, sometimes you just need Indian food It felt like it'd been at least 46 days since I'd had Indian food; I never needed Indian food like this before. It was a craving. Alas, my favorite place was closed. So I called DB for carry out. I wouldn't eat there. Looked dingy - the walls appeared like there were in a cave. Food was acceptable. Maybe so, maybe not. I ordered Plain naan bread- two orders $5.5, Chicken Tikka Masala $18, and vegetable samosas $5.5. The bread was okay. The chicken wasn't spicy and there was hardly any chicken in the bowl. The sauce tasted more like tomato sauce instead of the yogurt sauce they usually make it with. The samosas weren't seasoned with spices. They were boring. This food here is decent, but not inconsistent. I have had times when it was delicious and times when the meat was tough and disappointing. The rice dishes with shrimp have been good, but he the chicken and lamb have been just average. The sauces also seem to be just about average. If you're an Indian or a Pakistani, you will regret choosing this place. The flavors lack in every dish- I tried their Chana chaat and it was so bland. The potatoes were hard and overall it just didn't taste right. We also tried their biryani- it's not really biryani. Their naan bread is fine but that's it. We tried their samosas and it was also just okay. The waiter who served us was nice. The ambiance was okay- not too loud. Darbar was among the first few restaurants I ever ventured to in Baltimore, and oh my it became my absolute favorite. It has actually become a running joke that any time me and my friends are on the hunt for place to eat dinner I will without a doubt recommend Darbar because it is just that good. The lunch buffet is the light of my life. It alternates and introduces new dishes every week. Between the saag paneer, and the kheer it rocks my world. Also super inexpensive the lunch buffet is $12 for a LOT of delicious food. One other exciting thing to note is that twice we have visited and when we arrived they ask if we want complementary glasses of wine??? Like yes I definitely would love a glass. And both times the wine was perfectly good. So Darbar is the best, and if you like Indian food/want to try it out I think the best time to go is for the lunch buffet! read more

My daughter and I ate there for the first time Sunday evening 2/18. We had the meat samosa, chicken xacuti, shrimp vindaloo and olive and basil naan. The food was delicious and the portions generous, especially the shrimp. The waiter was excellent with recommendations and so kind checking on us. I hadn't eaten much of my shrimp as I was full and it was a bit too hot for me and he offered to have it remade milder. As we were finished that wasn't necessary and I enjoyed the rest the next day. We are from out of town, and we tried this place based on online reviews. We were immediately greeted and seated upon our arrival. The staff was friendly, punctual, and helpful. The environment is classier than I expected; double table clothes, water goblets, and candle lit table. But it was a welcome feature! The food was great, and the spice level was on point for my dish; rate spice from 1-10. We ordered chicken vindaloo and chicken tikka masala. Both dishes were fantastic but we both preferred the chicken vindaloo because of the spice. We also ordered plain naan, which paired well with the entrees. We didn't order an alcoholic beverage, but they have a wide variety of beer and wine. This was my first Indian restaurant experience and it was DELIGHTFUL. Five friends and I came in on a Tuesday night around 7 and got sat immediately. The server was extremely knowledgeable and walked us through the drink and appetizer lists. We ordered three appetizers, all were amazing! We also ordered the Mango Lassi-- so fresh, creamy and flavorful! Then on to entrees, I ordered the 12 Spice Curry Chicken. It was so tasty! I ordered it mild-- in retrospect, I should've gotten the medium as there was very little spiciness in the mild. That was my fault erring on the side of not setting my mouth on fire. We got sides of NaN and Garlic Naan, and would recommend those to any other dining patrons. For dessert, we ordered Mango Kulpi and the Gulab Jamun. The Gulab was fantastic-- the honey base and richness of the dough, was an excellent way to finish the meal. The mango Kulpi was also very good, with a great consistency and amazing flavor. The staff was incredibly attentive, the food was cooked and prepared so deliciously, and the value for the food we received was AMAZING. All 5 of us had drinks, had 3 courses, took home leftovers, and left a 20% tip and it was still under $200. We were looking for a memorable dining experience to end 2019 and Darbar def didn't disappoint! We reserved in advance and were promptly seated by our server, Mir. The atmosphere is warm and cozy with large and vibrant Mughal paintings throughout. The only downside was the ambient music which was a bit overwhelming and repetitive. The attentive service made our experience truly exceptional. From expert recommendations of the menu to frequent check ins to confirm we were satisfied, we appreciated the thoughtful attention the staff paid to all the patrons. The lamb korma was savory and flavorful. My husband ordered a fish recipe from the Goa region, that tasted especially fresh. We loved the warm and buttery garlic naan. I want to share an amazing experience that we had with Darbar recently. We placed a to-go order for 3 orders of garlic naan among other things. We got home to discover that we received regular naan instead of garlic naan. No big deal. It was a busy Friday night for them, and this had never happened before. Nonetheless, I gave Darbar a call in hopes that I could save the customer of the other to-go order from getting our garlic naan. The next day, I received an envelope in my mail box from the owner of Darbar, containing cash for the price difference of my order. I could not believe that they went that length to return under $10.
