Daruma by Rie Started off with some delicious Gyozas - Fried Dumplings and Yellowtail Carpaccio - Yellowtail with ponzu sauce. Both excellent and prepared well. Then had the Dragon Roll - Freshwater Eel and avocado on Shrimp Tempura Roll which was excellent and the Alaskan Roll- Baked Salmon California Roll which were good size and tasty. Had the Mayu Tomkatsu Ramen - Char Siu, Egg, black mushroom, crispy onion, green onions, black garlic oil. Very good broth, good size bowl and lots of items inside, after having shared the appetizers and sushi, had to take home some of the Ramen. Placed an order online around 7:20. The earliest pickup listed was 8 PM so we selected that time. When we hit the refresh button again the time changed to 8:30! 1+ hour wait time for 2 rolls, are you kidding me! Well now that apparently they pulled the ol' switcheroo on us and we had already paid I guess we would have a long wait. The rolls were delicious though. We had the sunset and Alaskan roll. Both were beautifully made and presented in a perfectly sized to go box. The Alaskan roll contains baked salmon with green onion on top of a California roll. The to go order comes with a small container of eel sauce which I only needed a small drizzle of. The sunset roll is made with spicy tuna, salmon, avocado and cucumber with sunset sauce- a creamy pale orange concoction. You could definitely taste the spicy tuna with each bite and all the ingredients worked well together. The meal came with two packets of low sodium soy sauce which I thought was a nice touch since I find regular soy sauce too salty for me these days. We got seated pretty fast for a Saturday night! Ordered Las Vegas roll, Tiger roll and spicy tuna roll. All were good. Vegas roll had a different flavor without the eel sauce I'm used to. If it had eel sauce it was very small amount and wasn't noticeable. The tiger roll had shrimp on top and was very fresh. All rolls were flavorful. Excellent food! Last night's crave was sushi. We have not had sushi since Covid started so we were so looking forward to a great meal and Daruma did not disappoint! I found it on Yelp and the reviews were great. Went in for dinner. A few tables were occupied. There aren't too many tables so I'm guessing social distancing is enforced. You are supposed to wear a mask when you are coming in but I noticed some people came in not wearing one. The menu has a lot of great options for appetizers, noodles and sushi rolls. Since my husband and I have stopped eating raw fish a long time ago now, I immediately looked at the rolls with no stars on them to order. We ordered 5 rolls, chicken karaage for an appetizer and a chicken yakisoba. The rolls we chose were dynamite (our favorite), Vegas, daruma, halloween and hungry man and we ordered one orange soda and one lemonade for drinks. Food came out pretty quickly. Everything was fresh and looked beautiful. Portions were huge! The chicken karaage were delicious, especially with the dipping sauce that came with it. The yakisoba was very good. As for the rolls, Dynamite, Daruma and Halloween were our favorite. Vegas wasn't great to be honest and hungry man although tasted very good, we couldn't eat the roll because it had raw fish on it but we tried a couple of bites. I was pretty sure I ordered everything from the options that did not have a star on it (indicating that it has raw fish) and shared that with our waitress explaining that I do not want to order any thing with raw fish. I wish she let me know when I ordered hungry man that it would have spicy tuna (it was there in the description but I missed it), especially since it was the most expensive roll we ordered. Overall, this was a great experience and the food was delicious. Service was attentive and quick. Prices are average. With a tip, we ended up paying $109+. A ramen place with ramen for ~$13. I tried the Vegas roll as appetizer and the tonkatsu ramen not spicy and the miso butter ramen spicy. The Vegas roll was pretty good for ~$9. Nothing to complain about and I'd probably get it again. The chashu in the ramen is decent and pretty tender, and the eggs are also decent but ours weren't as umami or marinated as we wanted it to be. The noodles are pretty sub par and definitely the worst category for this restaurant. The tonkatsu broth is pretty decent but not outstanding. I would not recommend getting the broth spicy as it seemed to completely take over the taste of the ramen which is why I can't really rate the miso. Overall, probably the best place for ramen I've had in AZ but definitely has a lot of room for improvement. read more

The sashimi platter was decent. Overall the experience was just average for me. I wanted to like it and had high hopes so maybe it was just the expectations. Unfortunately no real crab, limited selection and nearly every dish is chock full of gluten and soy. Did you know "krab" (imitation krab meat) has gluten in it? My wife ate daikon radish and I think one roll and a piece of tuna. There were 3 servers for pretty small restaurant but sadly they weren't very attentive. In fact, while we were there, I think a party of 7 or 8 people entered, stood in front of the door to be seated for 4 minutes and they got ignored so they left! So delicious, and the fish tasted so fresh! I came with my partner on a Sunday at lunch time, and we were immediately seated. We ordered the salmon carpaccio, the sashimi salad, and the Alaskan roll. All of the above were great, and the stand-out in my opinion was the salmon carpaccio! Salmon carpaccio (5/5): This was the first dish that came out, and it really set the tone for the rest of our lunch. The fish tasted so fresh, and the yuzu sauce was to die for! It was the perfect acidic, tangy compliment to the salmon. I craved this dish throughout the week after our lunch, and I would DEFINITELY order this again. Sashimi salad (4/5): We loved that the sashimi salad had three kinds of fish (tuna, salmon, and yellowtail), and my partner really liked the sesame ponzu dressing. I felt so-so about the dressing, as it distracted from the flavor of the fish rather than brought out the flavors. I think the yuzu sauce might have worked better here. And I wished there was more fish! But maybe I'm a little greedy... Alaskan roll (5/5): This was a solid roll, and exactly what I expected! It's similar to a Lion King roll (if other restaurants call it that). The salmon was cooked perfectly, and the sushi melted in your mouth. It's a little on the heavier side since it's cooked, but since we had it during the second half of our meal with the salad, it worked perfectly. Delicious and would order this again! Service (5/5): The staff were polite, checked in with us a good number of times, and kept our drinks filled. No frills here with the service, which I thought was perfectly fine! Daruma is right next to my favorite Korean spot and I've been wanting to give it a try for some time. The interior is simple and clean looking and was fairly busy on a Saturday evening. The staff was friendly and attentive throughout the entire dinner! We started with the gyoza and jalapeño pepper starter and both were just okay. However, the Tonkatsu ramen was solid and definitely one of the better bowls of ramen I've had in the east valley. The broth and pork had good flavor and the egg was also cooked nicely. I ordered the spicy sauce on the side to mix in to my liking and I would highly recommend that strategy --the hot sauce is very spicy and could quickly overpower the entire dish. However, mixed in to your liking is the perfect way to go. I ordered the combo and also got California rolls, but they were just okay (I think the rice was off, maybe?) My boyfriend ordered an assortment of sushi rolls and overall liked them. However, the quality of the fish is a little bit questionable since the tuna was clearly dyed and left dye on the rice underneath! Lastly, the timing of the food coming out was a bit strange. My entree arrived first, followed by one appetizer, then finally the other appetizer, and then finally my boyfriends' food. My boyfriend had to sit there and watch me eat my ramen for a solid 10 minutes since I wasn't going to be polite and wait for him...but do you blame me? :-) All of the noodle dishes around us looked fantastic and I would definitely return to try them. The Hiyashi noodle, which is served like a salad with lots of veggies were refreshing yet filling. We also tried their Salmon, yellowtail, and albacore carpaccio (not pictured). Ordering was easy and delivery was on time. However, this is the third time we have ordered from Daruma with the first two orders being exceptional in taste and presentation. We were very disappointed with the recent order as the California roll fell completely apart and became impossible to pick up with chopsticks. Came here based on the good reviews. A few thoughts- 1) Service was great! Our waitress was bubbly and our food came out quick. 2) The tonkatsu ramen was very good. I enjoyed the onions and mushrooms! The meat was tender. The broth could have been slightly creamier, it was a little more watery than I'd prefer. However, the flavor came across nicely (I had spice level 3). 3) Karaage was crispy and the meat to breading ratio was great. I had the Tako Yaki and the Vegas Roll! Delicious!! The Tako Yaki was beautifully presented and had a nice fried exterior and smooth interior with a couple nice chunks of octopus inside. The Vegas Roll was a great combo of flavors, encased in a lightly crunchy fried covering! The waiter was very attentive and engaged. He made the visit even better. I had no ideas this place opened several months ago. I was in the area looking for something to eat for lunch, this place came up on my search with great reviews of several of my Yelp friends. If they said good, it must be good and I had to try. We had two different ramens to share. Tonkotsu and miso butter. Tonkotsu had good flavor and I liked the noodle texture. Butter miso was a bit too much buttery for my liking. I had butter miso in Hokkaido before. I don't remember being this buttery. Anyway, ramen bowl is big, it really filled me up. The food and the service here were both amazing. We had the MAYU TONKOTSU RAMEN and substituted chicken for the pork at spice level three (1-5 scale). We do like spicy but will take the advice of our server next time and go with a two. I discovered my all time favorite roll here. The best way to describe the Geisha roll it is fresh and crisp. The tangy sauce on this work of art is just amazing. Not too much tang but so complementary to the roll. The ramen was next level pure deliciousness! So happy to have found this place close by. I would not recommend the Daruma roll. The fried shrimp on top of the roll did nothing special for it, in my opinion. We each had one piece and were done with it. I'm torn making this review since it came highly recommended by other Yelp Elite. The pro is that Mon - Thrs the Happy Hour is all day and the prices are reasonable. My experience of the food was rather mid due to lack of depth & flavor on the rolls. The spicy tuna tasted like a roll made at a grocery store. To make matters worse i brought some leftovers to my wife who just finished giving birth and wanted her first sushi fix. She was not impressed and the food made her tummy feel funny. A cute little spot, Daruma by Rie is next door to Hodori so you know it's going to be good. Winter has finally come in Arizona and last night was chilly enough to entertain the thought of ramen for dinner. Of course I type "ramen" into Yelp and one of the first results was Daruma by Rie. I decide to order the black Mayu tonkotsu ramen and make it spicy for $1 more. I've read that the spicy sauce IS spicy, and when ordering the hostess reported the same so I decided to order it at 3 (on a scale from 1-5). Alas, there was SOME kick to it at 3 but next time I'll try 4, maybe even 5. (For reference, I'd like to think I have a high tolerance for spiciness- I down xxtra flaming hot Cheetos DAILY (side side note, I realize this may not be the best scale for comparison)). In addition we ordered the tuna roll, jalapeños pop roll, chicken kaarage, and Gyoza. Each entree came with a dipping sauce. The rolls were fresh and the chicken was soft and tender. The gyoza were good, probably frozen ones heated up, but at $6 for 5, not exactly good value. A little pricey but definitely delicious. The rice was unseasoned and dry. also too much of it so that you couldn't taste the fish and it fell apart. The fish tasted good but the rice ruined it. We ended up picking it apart to eat the fish and didn't even finish the order. We tried a variety including spicy tuna, spicy albacore, salmon, cucumber (I actually ordered salmon cucumber but that's OK) and sunset roll. Sad spend of $50. I could not recommend this ramen enough! -Sapporo Miso Butter Ramen - My boyfriend only had praises for this ramen. The broth was not quite as flavorful as the tonkotsu, however it had that richness from the butter and strong miso flavor. Quite delicious! -Sunset Roll - The salmon was fresh and they did not skimp on the cut of the salmon! The salmon paired with the cucumber and avocado so well. -Daruma Roll - I was a bit disappointed by this roll after eating their delicious ramen and the other roll we ordered.
