We're from New Jersey, the diner capital of the world. These kinds of places dot the landscape back home, so our standards for diners are pretty high, you're not going to impress us with a nostalgic theme alone! With that being said, Dave's checks all the boxes, good food, reasonable prices, quick service and a friendly staff. The place was hopping on the Friday night we were in for dinner, and there was no outdoor seating available, but we were seated in a booth within about 5 minutes. Orders were taken quickly, and the food arrived soon thereafter. My oldest had a very good banana pancake which he polished off, while my youngest had a foot-long hot dog with chips. The wife had two eggs over easy with hash browns, which she wasn't terribly fond of (the potatoes weren't seasoned and were almost sweet. Not bad, just not what she is used to). I had the fried chicken at the waitress's suggestion. She did not steer me wrong. It was crispy on the outside without losing any of the moisture in the meat, perfectly done. The sides did not match the entree, however. The biscuit was a bit dry, the mashed potatoes were okay, and the cole slaw wasn't very good at all; dry and flavorless, almost like plain shredded cabbage. Still, all in all this was a very solid meal, and the price was certainly right. They also have root beer on draft, something I didn't come to realize until I was leaving. Would've loved to try it! If I find myself in the area again, I wouldn't hesitate to stop back in. read more

Visiting Rhode Island from Boston and hunger takes over during trip. No good vegetarian options in road while we saw Dave's diner in map. Good old place with good diner vibes. Lot of local folks with family around. Good for brunch and breakfast. Good tomato cheese grill and awesome milk shake. read more

It's been some time since my first review. Not much has changed about the place over the years since I found the diner. It's the same great menu, service and atmosphere that it's always been. Enough on the menu to never get tired of it seemingly always having the same items available. Some of the booths sink a bit when sitting, perhaps a little maintenance to work that out. But it's not enough to keep me from going back. In comparison to many diners I've eaten at, this has to be at the top of the list. Looks great outside, but you're doing it wrong if you just stand out there staring at it. read more

I am traveling and staying in the area. I noticed the diner from the road and was looking to get some dinner. I was seated right away. The waitstaff service was great! The first night I had a bowl of chili which I have to say was maybe the best chili I ever had. Delicious! Then I had a cheeseburger with mashed potatoes as a side. Once again the burger was a good size and it tasted delicious. One of the best burgers I ever had. The prices are very reasonable. The second night I wanted to try something different, I ordered the grilled buffalo chicken salad. It was a very generous portion and the salad was done right with plenty of chicken, blue cheese, onions, cucumbers , lettuce and bacon. Great meal and once again reasonably priced. When I return to this area I will definitely come here for dinner as well as any other meal. They serve breakfast all day too. read more

Idk why this place has so many stars. This is my 3rd time here and last one. I think I gave them plenty of chances to improve. If you like corn syrup, potatoes and bread this is the place for you. The food is incredible and the service is unmatched. This is essentially an appreciation post for our server Crisann (sorry if I'm butchering the spelling). My boyfriend and I went out for lunch as part of our anniversary celebration and left with so much happiness in our hearts. She was so pleasant and took the time to chat with us and laugh with us. I came here expecting it to just be ok, but I was very surprised about how well the food came out. The home-fries were some of the best I've eaten in awhile, eggs weren't anything too special, but the chocolate pancakes were great. Service was very good also. Their is some good competition on this street, and it seems to me that this might be the clear cut winner. Everyone else who has reviewed this place also claims that this is the best breakfast place in the area. I can't remember the last time I've had such a good breakfast for under $10. read more

This place is commonly packed with a line to be seated. It's popular with the older local crowd. It's a small restaurant so waiting is tough because there's really nowhere to go. I largely attribute the popularity to the theme more than the food and service. The food is not bad but isn't all that great either. It's average or below. The service is hit or miss. You can get polar opposite service and startingly so. This place is close to work so I've had the opportunity to eat there during all meals. One is not better than another. They don't seem to hold themselves to a high standard. I've been to much better restaurants in terms of breakfast meals that are smaller mom and pop places that serve significantly better meals. Persy's Place is nearby and falls into this category. Not as much aesthetically but if I wanted something to look at, I'd go to a museum. read more

I loved Dave's diner! It's a 50s styled diner, from the deco to the menu, decked out in oldies fashion. The food here was also very good. I got the duke burger, which was a bacon cheeseburger with onions and barbecue sauce. The fries were golden and crunchy. I had zero complaints. Who knew this was in the boro? read more

Second trip to Dave's did not disappoint. Both trips to Dave's required a short wait to be seated, but, it was worth it. We love the rustic/ retro feel of the place and adore the new outside seating area. Our waitress was amazing- polite, funny, and engaging with my young son. Breakfast is available all day and is delicious. I had a turkey (thanksgiving) wrap which was warm and tasty. Oversized burgers, generous side of fries- - we left stuffed. We don't get out to the area very often, but if we are, we'll definitely be back. read more

Awesome place for brunch! They had a large menu, but I went with banana pancakes with chocolate chips, and a coffee on the side. It did not disappoint, my pancakes were delicious and the bananas were sweet and tasted fresh. The service was also super fast and our waitress was friendly and attentive. Went here on the recommendation of a friend. Glad I did. It's much larger than you would typically expect for a diner, the place is extremely clean inside, and has that retro diner feel. The service was fantastic, and the meals were very good. I wish they were serving lunch, but they only serve breakfast every day until one due to staffing shortages.
