This was my first time having Dave's hot chicken and I'm actually pretty pleasantly surprised by the quality! I got the #1 with 1 medium and 1 hot chicken tender each. The hot was delicious in flavor and just barely stuffy nose inducing, while the medium I could barely feel personally. The chicken was pretty juicy and thick in size, with a really delicious crispy batter seasoned well with a nice blend of spicy, and tangy flavor that isn't just cayenne pepper and salt. The fries weren't the soggy crinkle cut mess like from raising cane's, and was actually golden brown and perfect for dipping in the sauce. The only thing I don't care for was the sad looking pieces of bread, but an air-fry at home would suffice. Of course l, I love the pickles that come with the meal too. Lastly, I got the mac and cheese side which hit the spot for cutting the spice and if you like cheap nostalgic mac and cheese like me. First time here and I'm honestly so glad that I finally decided to give it a try. Yes, the menu is small but it has everything you need. Alexis helped us out when we came and she really blew me away. I'm super big on customer service and she deserves a raise! It's so rare to see young folks actually care about their jobs and to go above and beyond. Chicken sandwich was good, I ordered it extra hot and it was actually hot! The order for two sandwiches comes with seasoned fries. Flavors are good, and they give extra sauce too. I would have liked onion on my sandwich, but I'm not sure if they offer that. Only thing was that the place could've used some fresh air, it smelled like old greasy food smell trapped in there. New location here in Escondido! And upon my first experience here at Dave's I must say the overall quality of the food is sufficient. The spice & "hotness"? Nonexistent. Being under the impression that "Dave's Hot Chicken" was going to be "hot" and it not holding true, quite disappointed. However, my meal came out in under 10 minutes and was very fresh. The chicken itself was moist with a good flavor. The breading gave it a nice crispy body from start to finish. Nothing exceptional about the fries, but weren't under or overly cooked. I'd argue everything paired well with their sauce. Better than most establishments I've been to thus far. Sauce was the star of the show and is their saving grace. Am I incredibly eager to revisit? Not necessarily. But for it to be the only Dave's in my city, I'm delighted that it's there. Non-food Critique: Upon me walking in and ordering I was greeted with a smile and asked how my day was prior to being asked what I'd like to order. Very commendable. The neon red-white lights gave the inside of Dave's a futuristic feel. I would recommend bringing a group of 5 to have conversation and enjoy a good meal. read more

I first tried Dave's in Mira Mesa, so I was super excited to have one open closer to home. The chicken here is very tender, juicy, and loaded in flavor. Heat ranges from no heat to Reaper. I typically reach for the Extra Hot, with the occasional Reaper (you need to sign a waiver for it). I've been to a few hot chicken places, but I like this one the best. I'm partial to having cheese as an option to add, and Dave's has sliced cheese or a cheese sauce you can add. The kale slaw is really good and I hate kale. My only complaint is that thanks to inflation the prices are definitely higher than they used to be. But I have the same complaint with every place, so whatever. It's still worth going to! read more

I have been dying to try DHC. My 12 year old daughter & I were shopping at Target (planned to go to DHC after) ....a DHC employee happened to be giving out samples as we left Target. We both thought sample was incredible. I had mild & my daughter had medium. The chicken was juicy & tender & breading was so tasty - a thin layer & fresh!!! We went there & ordered to go. It was nothing like the samples we had just eaten. The chicken was way overseasoned & super dry & way too salty. The fries were good. My daughter loved her strawberry milk shake. I tried hers- it was good. They use real ice cream. Their signature sauce?! Oh no, not for us- awful. But thats fine we can do without the orange sauce. The kale slaw was delicious. But the chicken was extremely disappointing. We went on Mothers Day. We gave DHC another 2 chances for take out hoping to get the same chicken we had with the samples. We went a total of 3 times......each time way too salty. We wanted to love it so much. Customer service was very good. We tried a total of 3 times to get great tasting chicken because we know your chicken CAN be fabulous. Consistency is KEY in a restaurant. I'd like to point out my parents live in the LA area & they say the chicken is amazing at that location (Venice & Overland). We will try it with them when we're visiting there. read more
