Really slow service. Placed a very simple order for pickup online (Dave's mini sliders) I asked the cashier when I arrived if it was ready and it had been almost ten mins since I ordered... he said they were still working on it.... I sat on the dining room watching orders and orders get sent out of the kitchen for over 20 mins... Finally I was ready to cancel the order and it wasn't magically ready. Definitely not convenient

I keep passing by Dave's locations, and so one day I decided to pull the trigger and give it a try! Overall we enjoyed our experience. Pros: - open 'til midnight (nice to have more late-night options in Irvine) - [[HIGHLIGHT]]seating area is pretty clean[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] - chicken strips are pretty hefty and well-seasoned - staff is friendly and accommodating (surprised to see negatives reviews on this!) - happy to see a somewhat healthier option for sides with the kale slaw Cons: - Spice levels are inconsistent, ironic given that's their M.O.. "Medium" not spicy at all, but one level up as "Hot" was damn spicy! - Not a huge fan of their slider/sandwich option. Seems kinda thrown together as an afterthought rather than a considered menu item.

Delicious chicken, mediocre service. The chicken sandwich and tenders were flavorful and juicy, and the fries were excellent, but it took over 10 minutes for the food to come out, and everything was only slightly warm instead of hot. I really enjoyed the Dave's sauce, and the meal was definitely filling. The staff were very friendly as well and gladly provided extra sauce when asked. Overall, I loved the taste of the food, but I just wish the chicken had felt fresh out of the fryer.

Waited at the window for ~20 minutes after ordering a loaded mac and cheese. When I finally got my order I was told it was a spicy buffalo loaded mac so i was like ok and just left since it's been so long. Got home and there was barely any mac and cheese :( I specifically order this because I don't like fries that much.

2 Mild Chicken Dave's #2: 2 Sliders w/ Fries

We ordered 70 of the Dave's #2 menu item for work and it was hit! The amount of food was so filling. The chicken on the sliders were ginormous, crispy with an amazing batter. I love spice and the medium was not too spicy. There was tasty cabbage and crispy dill pickles on each slider. The crinkle cut fries had a Cajun spice and everyone was stuffed and satisfied. This was my first time trying Dave's and I'm disappointed I waited so long. I can't wait to have it again and maybe try other menu items. Highly recommended!

Been going to Dave's since their OG location in LA was the only location! Always got combo #2- hot and drizzled honey on always! Recently had a great experienced with the sandwich portion- where the chicken is cutlet size and width rather than ck tender size in sandwich. Staffs are always so friendly and nice- never any complaints with their customer service :) The only complaints now compared to the OG location are fries no longer loaded up but is measured by the small paper plate & they don't offer complimentary sides with a yelp check in.

We waited for 30 minutes for the order of (1)Flight of Saucy Bites and (2) loaded spicy buffalo mac. Buffalo mac was for other person, so I made sure to check the quality before leaving, but my chickens were half sauced and some not even breaded properly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Front was understaffed, back was crowded with smirks and flying boxes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Front being frustrated, was rude and couldn't even hand us sauces as she was too busy. I understand there is busy hours, but food quality and worker's attitudes should not fluctuate.

My first purchase was a hot Dave's #3 combo, but I got handed a Dave's #1 combo. I just noticed it when I opened the box at home, and at that point I just dug in and enjoyed. I called the restaurant after to ask for a partial refund, but the owner upped the offer and said to come back for a free meal, which I did the following night. Both meals had crispy chicken and generous portions of sauce. Compared to other local spicy chicken joints, this spot could be a little spicier, but the drive through convience and great service makes this my new go-to crispy hot chicken spot. To the owner and staff, if you read this, thank you again. A for service, A for the food, and A for making things right. Overall, great first experience. read more

Got the tender and slider w fries. Upgraded fries to cheese fries, which were super yum. And ordered Mac and cheese (which I agree w one reviewer that it was kinda like stouffers Mac n cheese). Got the no spice and the medium. Wouldn't recommend no spice as it's pretty bland and the medium was not hot at all, however, I did feel a bit of a burn afterwards inside lol. While eating, I couldn't help but be reminded of raising canes. Probably bc of the crinkle fries and the sauce that comes with the tenders. If I were to choose bt the 2, id pick Dave's. There's much more variety as they offer sides and the portions are a lot larger too. One Dave's tender is HUGE (probably the size of 2-3 canes tenders) and the slider is a lot bigger than what you imagine a slider to be as well. I feel like the price is prob cheaper as well. Went on the day they were offering one free tender or slider PER PERSON!!!! So generous of the company to do this as I feel like no one offers many incentives anymore. Will be back! read more

DO NOT EAT HERE! We opened our food to find a rusty metal bolt in our food. Outrageous! We almost ate this!!! This store should be closed. Orange County public health inspector was contacted and they are investigating this location. HR for Dave's has also reached out and are internally investigating. Went through the drive-thru around 8pm, George took our order and not only did he have great energy and attitude; he was extremely helpful in tracking our large and complicated order and offered to repeat the order a third time when we added more items. I ate there last week. Their "no spice" and "mild" options had the same level of heat, and their "hot" option barely registered any. Having had a lot of other spicy fried chicken, this was a huge disappointment. Their "kale slaw" only had a few pieces of kale in what was otherwise just bland cole slaw. One star because the lady who took our order was very friendly. To add insult to injury, we ordered and paid for a side of mac & cheese which was completely missing from our order. Yuck!! Love this place. 100% consistent been here 4-5 times in last few months and always good. Get the sliders!! The slaw is really good and makes for a really good bite much better than stand alone tenders. Chicken is always fresh and juicy. Also great staff! Placed a random order before midnight. Kept it simple, ordered a slider with fries along with a water bottle. Placed the order through a delivery app so by the time the food got to me it was slightly cold. Fries were soft/soggy, didn't have much of a bite to them, but the slider was exceptional. Kept the spice to a medium thinking it would be decently spicy but that was a huge mistake. Should've ordered hot or even spicier. Medium is packed with flavor but almost no heat. Nonetheless, the slider was not disappointing. Ordered a dave's sauce packet, as well, then drenched the fries in the sauce - it was much needed. read more

The drive thru was slow, but it was fine since there weren't many cars. The chicken was fresh, juicy and flavorful. The pickles were good too. However, I agree with the other reviewers that there is an odd gritty feel when you eat the outside of the chicken. It felt a bit like eating chicken covered in powder, which technically it is because of the added spices, but texturally, it was a bit off putting. Perhaps reducing the quantity of powder might help or making it into more of a sauce? Still, it was a decent and well-flavored meal if a bit expensive for what it is. read more

Since it's initial opening in Irvine, I've been to this location 5-6 times. I keep giving it chances but they keep disappointing. Seems to me that there's no such thing as quality control ever since their expansion to different cities. While the pieces of chicken may look big, the chicken itself is quite small. What makes them appear big is their coating which probably is 40% of the sandwich. The spice is non existent even at the reaper level. The crunch, might as well be eating greasy double deep fried chips in oil. Sorry Dave's...I was a loyal fan but I guess I'll have to move on....too bad too because location is prime. read more

Dave's hot chicken in irvine, finally, I went in to enjoy some Nashville hot sliders but I didn't have the best experience. First of all, the worker spoke very fast lacking a key element in communication with customer, I felt I was rushed to order unfortunately. They spent so much effort confirming the order, I wish they had spent the same effort checking that my bag had everything. Went through the drive thru, when I got home I was missing one of the two mac and cheese. Upon checking my receipt, yup! It's there, all paid for and clearly missing. We had it for dinner, one child totally disappointed about the missing mac... and if you have kids, you'll know how annoying this is. Didn't go back to get it because well.... At $3.50, the time and drive during a busy night while trying to finish some last minute work isn't worth it, and makes no sense, but it's extremely annoying. In terms of the food, I will echo previous reviews that it is way too salty. The slaw provides some relief so I highly recommend it, but after spending $60 for one adult and two kids, I will opt for a healthier meal elsewhere. Kids did not like it, even the mild was too spicy and way too salty that we barely took a couple of bites and decided to eat something else for dinner. We ended up tossing all of the food in the trash.... What a waste. Tried it once, probably won't be back... it's where the old KFC used to be and we miss it. read more

F*cling amazing food, service, and ambiance. Beautiful location and amazing chicken. I definitely recommend this place to everyone! We ordered the two sandwiches and fries for $13.99 which is really good. The extremely hot is hot for my boyfriend but the perfect balance for me. In other words, I don't really find it too spicy. The reaper on the other hand is very spicy. What I appreciate about Dave's spicy chicken is that it's not just spice, it actually has FLAVOR and good wholesome flavor too. It doesn't taste chemically manufactured like McDonald's and it doesn't sit like a brick in my stomach. I feel good after eating it so I'd keep coming back. read more

It's our second time trying Dave's Hot Chicken. The first time was at one of their LA locations. It was alright, we didn't go back because there is another Nashville-style hot chicken place in LA that we usually go to. This location is only a walking distance from where we live, and we enjoyed our first visit there. The food, the service, the wait time. And the fact that Dave's use Halal chicken, is a plus for me. :) We'll be back for more! One last thing, hopefully in the near future they will change their to go containers with a paper-based ones instead of styrofoam. read more

My kids wanted to try this place so I took my kids and their friends (total of 4 kids ) first of all I was disappointed that there is no kids meal choice so we had to order 4 regular meals for $62 which is too much for fast food without any drinks The light mild was over seasoned and very salty the couldn't even finish it and the fries were Soggy and salty as well, so i know where to go for chicken tenders next time !!! read more

Having been to other locations, I thought i knew what to expect, however, the service and quality of food were poor. I ended up waiting 35-40 minutes for a to go order and noticed preference given to Grub Hub and drive thru orders. In the end, my order was incomplete. I would suggest going to any other Dave's location, but not this one. Simply not consistent. read more

Seen these popping up recently so had to give it a go. Solid hot chicken sando! Had the #2 combo and was not disappointed. Those seasoned fries hit just right with the sliders. First time here, recommended by my brother. Very impressed, the chicken was amazing, I wasn't sure how hot the different levels where going to be so I got one slider medium and one slider hot. Both where amazing and I love the option to try different heat levels. Order came out perfect, I've never put honey on fried chicken...mind blown! Cashier was super friendly and helpful, everyone seemed to be in a great mood, really good vibe. Food came out in like 8 minutes, place was very clean. I will be back! read more

Food is great! Just don't order through the drive through. Order online through the app to build up points, and just pick it up in the restaurant to save time. Staff has no clue how to optimize drive through system. If a car in front of you orders 8 combos, they'll make the entire line behind them wait for that car until their order is ready before moving onto the next car in line. I don't know why they don't pull the car forward and have them pick up their 10 course meal inside. It's very inconsiderate and defeats the purpose of drive-through convenience. Every other fast food drive-through does this, Dave's just doesn't apply these basic rules. read more

Dave's Hot Chicken was created by best friends Dave Kopushyan, Arman Oganesyan, and Tommy and Gary Rubenyan. Dave, a chef trained in Thomas Keller's (French Laundry) organization set out to create the perfect Hot Chicken by searching, tasting, and frying. The four friends scrounged up $900 to put a tiny stand in an East Hollywood parking lot. The menu was simple, and chicken was the star. And what chicken it is! Sourced and prepared to be the juiciest and most tender imaginable with each piece topped with Dave's own mix of spices ranging from "Mild" to "The Reaper". Arman created Instagram buzz and the lines began to grow. Two nights later, Eater/LA showed up to see what the fuss was about. The next morning's headline read "East Hollywood's Late Night Chicken Stand Might Blow Your Mind". Almost instantly, the lines stretched around the block. A year later, the boys had the money to open a shop in a hip strip-mall with de_cor by local street artists, where the crowds continued to grow with wait-times of an hour and more. From there, the incredibly craveable "Hot and Spicy" varieties have created a cult following with rave reviews across the U.S. and Canada.

History

Established in 2017.

In 2017, four childhood friends came up with a simple concept -- take Nashville Hot Chicken and make it better than anyone else in America. With only a couple thousand dollars to their name, they boot-strapped a pop-up concept in a parking lot in East Hollywood serving a simple menu of tenders, sliders, fries, and kale slaw -- they created a viral cult following with lines consistently over an hour long. After 6 months of running the pop-up with long lines, the team took the plunge and opened their first physical store in January 2018 in a sleepy strip center in East Hollywood. Demand for their crave-able hot chicken exceeded all expectations and sales have grown every month since opening with consistently long lines throughout the day.

Inside the space was pretty messy. It looks like the workers did not have time to clean since there were crumbs and bits of trash. I'm glad we didn't dine in. For the food, since it's made to order, we waited just over 15 minutes for the fried foods. It came out piping hot, which we didn't really get to enjoy since by then, our table at din Tai Fung was ready. So we brought it with us. The chicken was really good. It was seasoned well and they even gave us a seasoning packet to add more flavor to the popcorn chicken. I'll go back if I'm in this area and want boba and popcorn chicken.

Chips are all over the walls and corners. It looked like someone tried to paint the walls, but the color didn't quite match. The drain for the soda machine needs a very deep cleaning. They do have a status screen that tells you when your order is ready, which is nice. Then the food. I ordered the 2-piece chicken combo. It didn't look anything like the pictures. The roll is a hamburger bun! I tried the chicken, and well, blech. I thought I would attempt to make a sandwich, but that was worse. Although the chicken was moist, the breading had more texture than taste, and the texture just wasn't good. The curly fries (à la Arby's style) were limp and not crunchy at all. The root beer was good, as I like the Stubborn brand, but the lid was so weird to drink from; it was hard not to spill on my shirt. I ate maybe 1/2 the order because I was starving, but threw the rest away.

I never judge anything based off of value, but this was dry and burnt to a crisp ): From the side profile of the cut, it appeared that one layer of batter and panko was thicker than the meat itself. So far, we have had more good experiences than not at Hako, and prefer not to let this particular experience deter us from returning again. As much as I miss Tacobell/KFC, Dave's Hot Chicken has stolen my heart. By far one of the best hot chicken places I've been to. Now, I may have not been to many BUT this place has definitely beaten the other places I've tried. The drive through reminds me of Chik-Fil-A because there's always a person taking your order. The customer service is AMAZING here. I work at a restaurant and they've literally inspired me to do better with my customers! They're so friendly every single time I order. They're enthusiastic and just sound like they love their job. If you order inside the restaurant, you do it at the register first and then get your table. It's always fast and efficient. The menu isn't that big so it makes ordering very easy. My go-to spice is the REAPER! Yes, the hottest spice they have. It hurts every time but it tastes soooo good. If you like spice, I don't think you'll be disappointed. The sliders are probably the best thing to get! I looove that you can add cheese. Their fries are pretty darn good. I don't know what seasoning they use but it's really nice. I like to dip my fries in their honey. :) Also, not that it matters but they have the best ice. Ricky was incredibly helpful and attentive -- he made everything smooth and stress-free. George was super friendly and knowledgeable, and you can tell he takes pride in giving great service. The heat levels go from mild to extra-hot, So be warned, my friend, or you'll be smoking like a pot. This was my first time trying David's Hot Chicken, and I have to say--I was blown away! The food was absolutely delicious. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. The spice level was just right and complemented the meal without being overwhelming. We recently stopped at Dave's in Irvine and had the greatest experience with Sufyan! He is such an amazing employee. He greeted us in a friendly manner, took our order, and said if there was anything we needed to let him know. In the time we were waiting for our food, we observed him check in on other customers, wipe down tables, check bathrooms, and still managed to take more orders during. Been coming back once every week or two and the staff have been fantastic. It seems they cook their chicken to order since everytime I came the food was piping hot. Tenders are super crispy and flavorful. I saw that they will be getting milk shakes soon. Hopefully soon since a shake paired with their food sounds like a match in heaven! I love the place but I have had a bad experience in the past when I got home and the tender was super small. After this I always make sure I tell the server to make sure that the tenders are the average size. I did the same thing today and still got two really small tenders. I love dave so much but I can't understand why I would pay $16 for super small tenders. Worst experience ever. I regret not taking a picture :( read more

Ricky was the most helpful and energetic employee there is ! It was our first time trying Dave's and he was so accommodating and happy to help us. When we came to the window he had a big smile on his face and politely asked to grab our phone for Apple Pay. Came for my second time. And elected to try extra hot. It was a MISTAKE. However the cashiers and managers were nice enough to re make another medium tender for me just to make sure I got my moneys worth as I was unable to eat the extra hot. 100% Top notch service. The cashier in front, Zain, was also very helpful and kind, when he gave me my order he asked me how many sauces I wanted and made the whole experience very enjoyable. I have been to Dave's multiple times now and the service is always good but today, when I came into the Dave's on Culver Drive, I was greeted by Christian who in the short amount of time that we talked, raised my standards on customer service.
