I had to specifically request the pimples I wanted her to treat. This was not the case at Dr. Jay's office. Dr. Jay took a thorough medical history, listened to my concerns, and answered all of my questions. He meticulously treated every pimple on my face. After evaluating my skin and treating my acne, Dr. Jay prescribed me a medication to help prevent future break outs. He explained how the medication works as well as how I should use the medication. I felt cared for the moment I stepped into Dr. Jay's warm and cozy office. His staff was polite and helpful and I felt very comfortable. I brought my kids there for their annual exams. The office charges $40 if you want to get blood drawn there instead of going to quest or labcorp. They also charge $15 for an eye exam. Blood draws and eye exams are supposed to be part of a well child exam and a doctors office should not be billing the patient/parents extra for these services. The insurance covers all these services for an annual exam. This was confirmed by our insurance company who called the office. The insurance company wanted to speak to whoever is in charge but they didnt put the insurance rep thru to the person. The receptionist at the doctors office did not tell me they charge for covered well child services or else I wouldn't have made the appointment there. We only went to this office once and won't be returning because of this. There are plenty of pediatricians who do not try to bill the parents for services already covered under insurance.

What was most disappointing was that we never actually saw the dermatologist. Instead, we were seen by a PA, who was lovely, professional, and genuinely helpful. However, it felt as though she was sent in response to my expressed frustration. When I later asked the front desk whether evening appointments are typically this delayed, I was told that evenings are usually "hectic." That response suggests this wasn't an unusual occurrence but rather an expected part of the schedule. The recommendation for my child was to return for 3-6 additional wart treatments. Unfortunately, there is no scenario in which I'm going to drive 30 minutes to Paramus, wait an hour or more, and then have a five-minute procedure repeated multiple times. I understand that delays happen in medicine, especially in pediatrics. But if evening appointments are consistently running this far behind, the practice needs to either schedule fewer patients or add more support. Families are balancing work, commutes, dinner, homework, etc. Waiting nearly an hour past an appointment time without communication is not respectful. Scheduling, wait times & office management left a lot to be desired.
