I got one of those annoying camera tickets in San Mateo County and the fine was almost $500! My brother recommended that I call them to seek counsel on how to fight it. Francis consulted me over the phone and after patiently listening to my story, he explained that I did not need to fight this ticket because of special circumstances regarding the vehicle, etc... And, if for whatever reason there is a problem in the future, then they will take the case and he almost guaranteed that it would be dismissed. Woohoo! I paid $300 for this firm to handle my traffic ticket. They told me there was roughly a 60% chance of dismissal, and if not full dismissal, a 90% chance of some reduction, and only a 10% chance of an unsuccessful outcome. My case was unsuccessful, but my bigger issue was the lack of communication. I received virtually no updates, was not notified when the case was decided, and had to call them myself to learn the result. Given that they described an unsuccessful result as only a 10% outcome, I expected a clear explanation of what happened, what they tried on my behalf, and why the case ultimately failed, along with instructions on how and when to pay the ticket. Despite asking for this in writing and following up again by email, I still received no response. For $300, I expected much better communication and follow-through. The experience left me feeling misled. I would stay away and would not recommend this firm. read more

One of the worst, They don't even know how to do their job I paid them 250$ for traffic light ticket and 2 months later I reserved a letter from them said i have to pay my fine (the whole amount) 500$ so basically they just went to the court to sign the ticket for me and make me pay 750$ for traffic light ticket. They promise you that they will either get the traffic ticket dismissed or penalty reduced with no points. 6 months later, my insurance premiums jumped $1,000 because there was a record/infraction where I was blocking an intersection on my driver's license. Although it was not a point, insurance companies now count those as points. They never mention that the reduced infraction would increase your insurance premiums. Beware!!! I've been using this firm forever and know a remarkable amount about this unusual niche of law. I'm a client of professional ticket representation for over 25 years and would NEVER defend my own ticket in court. Once you understand, the choice is obvious. ~ 95% this is for speeding or stop sign/light etc 1 - Missing a day of work just to be man-handled by an area of the gov that you lack knowledge and experience in, involving what could potentially end up quite expensive (fines + increased insurance costs for 2yrs+, lost work productivity). 2 - I'm a person of some import, and my time is more valuable than the fines and time involved (and/or I don't want to explain a work absence to my boss for a speeding ticket). My regular firm will be happy to bill me but a specialty firm has a more streamlined process and I'm not paying for their rent on the 37th floor in FiDi. $150-200 is a bargain - and I skip court? LoL 3 - When the police light goes on behind you, you just spent your money. You're either paying the gov or the lawyer. If you don't like spending money, don't get tickets. 4 - No outcome is guaranteed. My experience has been almost exclusively good outcomes to full dismissals. Generally the worst is plead out to a non-point infraction and pay the fine. And the savings is on not paying increased insurance rates for 2 years. And the difference between 0 and 1pts (on your driving record) is bigger than the difference between 1 and 2pts. With occasional traffic school, you can always stay at 0 or 1pts. 5 - Life Rule #2080 - Never deal with gov without having an attorney between you. There was a lady who absolutely owned this odd niche of law for many years. She is now a judge. Since every attorney sells "no promises", I searched for 10 years for her replacement. As best as her mighty shoes could ever be filled, this Uthman firm is the one. There are no guaranteed outcomes in these things but David K. Uthman knows the ticket game and plays it as well as it can be played. I absolutely recommend this firm 100% and give out his business cards to my friends and I consider him a first-class shop providing an unusual "life-hack"-level service that my friends are amazed even exists. I am VERY pleased. We met shortly before court went into session. He said he knew the cop who gave me the ticket, and we both saw that he was present. David approached him and asked him if he would consider reducing the charges. He agreed! I could not have done this on my own! So the outcome for me is excellent - the fine won't be horrible and I will not have to do traffic school, and I will remain eligible to do driving school if I should ever need to. ( I don't plan on ever needing it) David seems to be well liked and respected among SFPD and this is to your advantage if you ever get a moving violation - especially if your case is similar to mine where some of what I got cited for was subjective ! David and his team have helped me successfully fight several tickets over the past 7 years. They make it so easy and painless!

You get what you pay for. For $125 you get terrible representation. I tired many times before my trial to speak with my attorney. Not necessary they said. Just come at 1 pm on the day of your trial. Apparently, many of Mr. Uthman's clients don't even come to court. Mr. Uthman was extremely busy, when I arrived, gave me less than 5 minutes in the waiting room. Never felt I had his undivided attention. Told me I had no case. He didn't actually handle my case either. A junior associate named Mike handled my case. Along with at least 20 other cases across two different courtrooms. He carried a file 4 or 5 inches thick with cases. Apparently they get a lot of business as they were the only legal firm representing defendants on the day I was in court. I ended up arguing my case myself because Mike was useless in court. He is very cozy with all the cops, tries to get them to lower the charges or request dismissal because they "don't recall the incident". Each time he gets the cop to request dismissal, he gives the cop a nice handshake. My cop was having none of it. Of course I lost my case. I am now going to look for a real attorney to file an appeal, as the judge only looked at half my arguments and ignored the other argument. The judges always favor the cops, even though the cop in my case seemed confused and didn't know the vehicle code. I would rather pay another $500 for a real lawyer than the extra $1,500 it will cost me in higher insurance premiums over the next 3 years, not to mention the $238 fine the court ordered me to pay. Maybe my case was not winnable? But I sure didn't feel I got any support for my position nor an aggressive defense by this firm. What did I expect for $125? The absolute minimum effort. It's basically a mill. They have good marketing, are located right across the street from the Hall of Justice, the secretary takes your money. They did make an appearance for me at the arraignment for setting a trial date, which saved me having to go down there. But that's about all I got. I just don't think these guys did much to help me. I received a speeding ticket in Golden Gate Park doing 30+ mph over the posted speed limit. This automatically excluded me from traffic school so I went looking for an attorney to help. I came across David Uthman's yelp page and was impressed by the reviews and I'm happy to say I had a great experience. After a quick trip into his office back in February 2014 to retain his services, I got a letter in the mail saying my trial was set for late May. I was warned at the first in-office meeting that there was the possibility that the judge could increase the fine so that's something I had to take into consideration. Two weeks later after the trial, I got an email saying that the attorney entered a plea bargain with the officer and they were able to successfully dismiss my original charge which was a point violation and amended it to a non-point violation, I do not have to attend traffic school, and I only have to pay the original fine. I read Mark G.s review an was a little skeptical of it being a fake review. I received a ticket for making a left turn on a no left turn sign. I lived in Los Angeles at the time and it was not an option to appear in court on my behalf. So I hired David. I never spoke to him personally it was his assistant. This review is for an excellent traffic violation attorney in San Francisco. I believe he specializes in violations occurring in SF proper - not sure about other cities. At any rate, I would love to write some entertaining stories of all my traffic ticket escapades in SF and how I've been released of my obligations to pay these traffic tickets. However, without doubt, the character limit on Yelp reviews would certainly hinder my abilities to even begin to explain all of the interactions I've had with San Francisco's finest in regards to my interpretations of the traffic laws of our fine city. Having said that, I will write a brief review of David K. Uthman, traffic ticket attorney of San Francisco: Cost of traffic ticket when you just roll over and pay it: 1. More than likely over $100 or $150 and many times more - as in a red light camera violation 2. Your auto/moto insurance (you *do* have insurance, don't you?) premiums will increase for three years. Let's just throw a number out there, say, at minimum, an increase of $200 a year for three years and you've got $600 3. Or, perhaps you haven't had a ticket in 18 months and can use traffic school to keep it off your record - not sure how much the traffic school is since I've never done it - although you avoid the auto insurance increase, it is still your time and money to do the traffic school. Cost of hiring David to get you out of your ticket: 1. $199 per violation - I hope it is OK to post his rate here. 2. Your time. How valuable is it to you? When you work with David to represent you in SF Traffic court all you do is FAX your ticket over and he takes it from there. That's it. You don't have to go to court or even visit his office. How cool is that? Chances of getting your case dismissed? Quite good. All things considered, when you get a ticket, the time and money you can possibly spend to accept the ticket is usually going to be more, perhaps in some cases, much more, than the time and money you will spend to hire an attorney. I don't want to say how many traffic tickets I've gotten from SFPD during the ten years I've lived in this great city. Most of them were from SFPD moto cops for riding my moto in a "very expedient manner" through SF traffic. But, I will say this: I've gotten more than a few. You know how many stuck? None. My driving record is perfectly clean. Some of this can be attributed to my own efforts and some to the efforts of David Uthman and his predecessor. Drive safe. I received a red light camera tkt in the mail, which i wanted to argue against the circumstance. I looked on Yelp, and called the number for Mr. Uthman on Friday. Received a voice mail that they had walk-in consultations from 9:30-4 Mon-Thurs. Left a msg about my tkt and would like to speak with someone regarding the tkt. No call back on Monday. Tuesday called again, and left the same msg about the tkt. I received a phone call from his secretary about 20min later, who recommend that I go across the street to 850 Bryant (Police Dept) and talk with a police officer to get "hjs" opinion on the tkt. Really??? I couldn't believe that was the advice i was getting from this gal. Don't SFPD's support one another and the law...as if i was going to get any support from the police dept. I decided i needed to go in person to Mr. Uthman office in order to get better customer service and advice regarding this matter. So went today, Wed., hopeful i would get a chance to talk with someone else who knew more about the law and red light camera tkts. Not So. The same gal who i spoke to over the phone, was the only person in this small little tiny office,and once again recommended I go to the 4th or 5th floor (she was not sure) to ask to speak to a police officer to get his/her opinion. I asked, where was Mr. Uthman, and she told me very honestly, he rarely is here!!!! So much for this lawyer arguing a case for you....and having his unexperienced secretary offering bad advice to the public, when she has no legal experience whatsoever. Your better off going in front of the judge yourself, as i have read on many blogs about traffic court, and pleading no contest, and asking for traffic school and getting a reduced fine. I received a ticket for stopping a bit over the white line at a stop sign (I was in a van and wasn't too used to the brakes) and received a ticket. I searched for many hours for an attorney and decided from Mark's review to try Uthman out. I just faxed in the ticket and called to confirm they received it and that was it. I guess that would be my only complaint, that there is no contact and you have to call in to receive updates, but they have a nice secretary who pulls your file within seconds and tells you exactly what's going on. Three months later the ticket was dismissed (I have no idea how) and I jumped for joy. Spending $200 on getting the ticket dismissed probably saved me over $1000 in insurance increases AND for paying for the actual ticket would have cost. I am very grateful, and really recommended using this attorney. One suggesting though that Mark touched on is don't admit ANYTHING when stopped for a ticket. Be courteous, but do not admit to actually running a stop or that you were 'just going 80 mph.' The police officer WILL write down what you say on the back of the ticket, and if it goes to trial Uthman may have a harder time just getting it dismissed. I received 3 traffic citations in the past year. 1st ticket was in San Mateo, illegal lane change. I basically went straight ahead through an intersection from a left-only lane. 2nd ticket was in Palo Alto, for rolling through a stop sign. 3rd ticket was in SF for an illegal left turn (turned left even though there was a no-left turn sign on the intersection). David's office was very good with email correspondence and prompt with all notifications. For this reason, I was very lenient with my rating. Of the 3 tickets above, ONLY the third got dismissed, the first two did not. I rated David accordingly. It seems from the other reviews is that his office is very reliable as long as you are dealing with traffic violations within San Francisco. Not so for San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Wow. This law firm has been outstanding. I got pulled over, and given a ticket from a san francisco policeman. The event was not to my likely nor was the ticket. I quickly got on yelp and found this law firm. After checking the law firm out (looked them up on the CA state bar, they had NO issues). I called them, they asked me to fax in a copy of my ticket. the court date was the next day and i was worried that there might be an issue. On 2016, Salesforce was in town for a convention. traffic in San Francisco it's already heavy withbout conventions,it is 5 times worse Whit conventions, I did a u-turn on what they like to call illegal u-turn on a busines district due to this convention heavy traffic. it's a one-point moving violation 386$ ticket. one star will be too much for this law team! my boyfriend was told that he had 80% wining the case and now they give him a DMV web link and ask him to pay the ticket and take the traffic school, no instructions, no report for the case, nothing. All that money we pay only get one email and doesn't even tell you what to do and you still have to pay. We call in the office and try to get more information, the lady be like, oh you can get the information from the Court website. My experience with David Uthman's office has been a wash. I discovered the office after walking outside the SF traffic courthouse. Uthman's office is strategically located directly across the street. They helped me clear 2 tickets. However, on their 3rd assignment they messed up in my opinion. The judge doubled my fine, and Uthman's office did not tell me this news for days. When I called the office, they mistakenly said that the ticket was cleared -- and then retracted this. I was disappointed by their customer service and how they worked with me. Honestly, all else being equal, I'd rather transfer funds to the City of SF rather than a law firm. I'm planning to find alternatives for any future traffic tickets. read more
