There are plenty of cookie cutter restaurants in any given city. There aren't enough great, old school delicatessens. Sitting at the giant bar that fills the whole place feels like a throwback to before I was even alive (might be an old soul occasionally, but I'm not actually THAT old). Vintage music plays in the background as you get served up hefty portions of classic dishes. There's a real sense of ambiance in a place like this, and while the food isn't incredible, it's also not trying to vie for a Michelin star. I had the bagel breakfast sandwich with more eggs and bacon that could even fit. Both were tasty but the bacon clearly came from a batch that had likely been mass cooked some time ago. The bagel was great, and I would likely order this again, just expect better than average diner/deli food and don't expect to be blown away.

Visited David's Deli for the first time today. Considered another place but there was a long line so ventured over to David's. We sat at the counter and it was as if we stepped back in time. The decor is old school, rustic and welcoming. The service was excellent. The Grilled Chicken Sandwich was a bit dry but fries and salad were tasty. The Split Pea Soup with Challah bread was delicious. Others around us had the Ruben sandwich and Botscht stew both looked great. Definitely would visit again.

I always enjoy eating here and I decided to come back here and I am so glad I did! The food here tastes amazing and the service was very friendly and the ambiance of this place is phenomenal! I highly recommend people try this place. If I can give them a 10 star rating I would!

Right down the street from our hotel and definitely a keeper. We came in for a late breakfast so they were not crowded (some mornings the line was out the door). Service was great and the pricing good, considering your are in the heart of SF. The menu is extensive but my wife chose a bagel with cream cheese and a side of fruit while I had the Shakshuka with 3 eggs. This came in a cast iron skillet (very hot) and it was great. Bottomless coffee and tea so what else do you need? We were now reasy for the day - and another 5 or 6 miles around SF. Nice background music and the venue is a lot bigger than it looks from the street. Old style deli/diner feel with formica counters and stools. Nice!

I can here for an early am breakfast as it was close by our hotel. It has that nostalgic 1950s diner with old school vibes. The service was good since it wasn't that busy. They had a nice around the counter seating and I particularly liked their house made hot sauce. Breakfast was two eggs sunny side up. Bacon and some challah bread. It was just fine and a good vibe.

Super yummy and fun place to grab breakfast! We had to stop by two days in a row on our trip.

Veggie omelette. Hash browns were the star.

Would give them a 3.5 if we can. The food was decent and the service was pretty good. Place gave you a classic old school ambiance but a bit run down. Reason for the three stars is that for the price that is comparable to other nicer places, you're not getting much of a value. But I think 2.5 stars is undeserved.

What a throwback to back in time! Service is amazing. The food is classic, good, and delicious. I have been here many times and have yet to have a bad experience. Completely recommend you check it out. Have the coffee, split pea soup and enjoy the old music.

The cutest counter dinning I've seen in the city in a long time!

Super cute deli bistro with counter top service! This reminds me of the city in the 80's! We made a quick stop here between shows at the Curran Theater. What we had: 2 coffees 1 eclair Excellent service. This has the feeling of days gone by and is the perfect place to pop in and relax between shows. The staff was very nice, desserts were served fast and they were fresh. I wish we would have seen this diner for our dinner as the menu looks super cute and nostalgic. We will be back!

    Love the mustard bottles!

Cute little place in downtown area. Weird experience overall though. First, there was a light garbage smell coming from the back room, not a great start. But we chalked that up to the place being so damn old. The atmosphere fortunately had a very cool vibe with great 1940-50s music playing. The food was pretty good. Loved the fries, but I always like the thin cuts without any coating on em. Had an excellent greasy spoon mushroom Swiss burger -- which is my default diner litmus test. The waiter was attentive and very nice. Overall I was very happy with the food and experience. That is, until some weird hotel person  yelled at the chefs to help with someone's bags for the attached hotel next door. She was super unprofessional and kinda mean. It was so bad that I almost got to to defend the poor wait staff. Instead we minded our business, left a heavy tip for the poor guy, and split... With all that said, if you're interested in a decent old school greasy spoon diner vibe in the middle of Union Square, it's worth checking out. I would just set the expectations a little low due to whatever that hotel mess is going on next door.

It was ok. I didn't expect hot pastrami to be fried and just bread with it. It was convenient. Lox were yummy.

Have been here twice and will be back to eat everything else they have haha. Very punk shop. Tiny little space with a cute parklet in front. The workers are very helpful and knowledgeable on their products. Want to come here for more food, grab a bottle of wine next door, and enjoy the night with a friend. I won't say much about the food, just that there is a reason I want to come back for more. Fresh, delicious ingredients. Carefully thought out and brought together for great combinations. Truly curated experience is how I would put it. I really like this shop.

Came here right at 11:30 AM on a Sunday to get their Brunch Focaccia. The shop is filled with…read moreshelves of unique produce and dry goods, giving a sense of wonder and cozy intrigue. I loved seeing all the other goods they had for sale; though they were pricey, the curation seemed very special and done with love and care. There's some seating outside on benches or the patio deck, and the employees were very friendly and easygoing. The day I went, the brunch focaccia was an artichokes, salsa verde, sundried tomatoes, red onion, arugula, and pepper jack focaccia that day, and it was delicious! they grill it fresh in front of you (takes about 5 minutes), and I'd recommend eating it as soon as possible for the best experience. The focaccia is so light and airy with the crispy crust, and their ingredients are so high quality with a symphony of flavors. Would definitely come back again for this, maybe to also try their paninis!
