I was in Raleigh for a business trip and was so happy I stopped here for dinner. The food was delicious! I tried the edamame and mushroom dumplings which were incredible. I've never had anything like it before. The dumplings were perfectly cooked though I would have preferred a more classic soy sauce over oyster sauce. For entrees we ordered the sesame tofu and the moo shoo tofu. Both were excellent. The sesame tofu is a smaller serving of food, more of an appetizer I'd say. The moo shoo was a large portion of perfect flavors and textures. It comes with 3 bao buns and I took half home. The inside is large and good for large groups. Definitely recommend this place! If I am ever back in town I want to try the curry noodles. read more

Hmmm. I am not so sure about this place. I was really looking forward to eating here after hearing tons of good things, however, I was incredibly disappointed. There have been few times where I've considered something truly inedible and this place was almost there. My friend and I got Pad Thai and Lo Mein and split some dumplings. Everything tasted the same, it was hard to pick up on any flavor due to the saltiness. I'm not sure if this is a fluke or what, but I would MAYBE give it another try. Excellent! 6 stars. All of it! Location, ambiance, service, food, drinks....all of it! GO! Curry was perfectly spicy (you have spice level choices). Noodles were plentiful and exceeded expectations on quantity and flavor. Dumplings and spring rolls are far above standard takeout quality, as they should be. Underwhelming. Hunan Beef was EXTREMELY spicy even for me from Jamaican roots. The "Sam's Rice and Shrimp" (I think that's what it's called) had a strange after taste, similar to old grease. The Fried chicken wings were dark, dry and tasted of old grease. The fountain Pepsi was interesting, if you enjoy a chemically tasting drink. I don't take pleasure in poor reviews but the experience did not live up to the amount of stars given in previous reviews of this restaurant. read more

I like David's Dumpling I feel like it's a hidden gem and many people don't really go or know about it. We met a friend where for lunch. When we first pulled up you never know where to park but there is street parking, parking lot and then parking across the street that's available. We ended up getting a space across the street. As we walked in there was a man that greeted us he was really nice and walked up to our table. When you first walk in I always admire the simple atmosphere. It's although the windows are HUGE it still cozy as it provides Just enough light. Our server was really nice. We ordered right away. We ordered; half fried dumplings, chicken curry and rice + Chicken for our son. Their chicken for kids is kind of deep fried like tempura which that was interesting but it was tasty. We popped in here while staying at the Aloft on a Tuesday night. We had our two kids and met a couple friends. It wasn't too busy and our service was pretty good. We ordered two dumplings apps for. One to share and one for my oldest (12yo) who loves dumplings. My husband ordered some spicy chick plate, I can't remember. It was rice, chicken, and peppers. It was pretty good. I am a huge fan of dumplings and always search them out when I travel for business. I was not disappointed they had a house special dumpling that doesn't sound like much on the menu, even the waiter who said they're really good didn't quite explain them to be as fantastic as they were. I was really blown away- this is a very different style of dumpling. I would go back in a second to have a plate of these babies. We had a couple other entrees and some soup everything was really good! Inside was lovely and airy- lots of atomosphere. We had excellent service too. It's... okay? I think what you get out of this restaurant is very dependent on what you expect heading in. If you want authentic Chinese food, you'll be severely disappointed. And that's not to mention that you're certainly in the wrong part of town! The only decent restaurants for authentic Chinese food in the Triangle are in Cary, not Raleigh. On the other hand, I knew from the pictures going in that this is Asian fusion, or just straight up Chinese take-out food. Going in with these expectations, I was pleasantly surprised. The food was decent, although on the oily side like all Chinese take-out food. I was of course thirsty afterwards (hello MSG!), but I was certainly full and fulfilled. I got a stir fried beef dish with veggies. The beef wasn't tough, and the veggies were crispy. So it was actually pretty good take-out food. The environment of this place looks semi-fancy and has a nice mojo to it , but the service and food was both sub par this time. I haven't been to David's Dumplings in 5+ years, and now I'm wondering why I waited so long to go back. The food was good and the prices were very reasonable. I will definitely be back soon. I went with 3 other friends for a weekday dinner. There were plenty of open tables. We decided to order family style and shared all our apps and entrees. I think this is the best way to eat Chinese food, as you get to try many different dishes! Hot and Sour Soup 4/5 - Not your typical hot and sour soup, definitely on the lighter/milder side. I tasted more like the soup base for wonton soup, but with the texture of egg drop soup (thicker). I still really enjoyed it! David's Original Half-Fried Dumplings 3/5 - My mom makes delicious homemade dumplings, so I'm a hard dumpling critic. I thought the dumplings were okay, but they didn't taste as "traditional" to me - maybe because they are fried. They are still good, and I would recommend trying them if you haven't. Crispy Spicy Wontons 4/5 - This was actually really similar to the dumplings, but just fried! I enjoyed them more than the dumplings. Malaysian Curry Noodle Soup 5/5 - Delicious! I'm not usually a big curry fan and I wouldn't order curry as my main dish - but since we were sharing, I'm glad I got to try it! It wasn't too spicy, but it did have a little bit of spice. Very flavorful. Ginger Garlic Eggplant with Pork 3/5 - This was recommended by our waitress, but I thought it was just eh. It was fine, but I wouldn't order it again. Also, the white rice that comes with the dish is really small. David's Fried Rice with Shrimp & Chinese Sausage 4/5 - Pretty good, wish they had other options for fried rice though. Glad we got it but I wouldn't order again. Atmosphere 5/5 - I really like the atmosphere here! It's spacious and wasn't crowded, so my friends and I could actually have a conversation without having to shout. Service 3/5 - The service was okay, but wasn't great. It wasn't busy, but the service felt a bit disjointed. The food came out fast. But we asked for bowls to share the curry, and that took 5-8 minutes to get - and by that time our curry was getting cold. Came here on a whim, and I am very glad that we decided to give them a try. We enjoyed the Won Ton soup, very flavorful, the Sui Mai, the half Fried Dumplings the Crispy Fried Wontons. Everything was delicious, and those dumplings were filled with meat! I also enjoyed a Fizzy Apple cocktail, my daughter enjoyed the Peach cocktail. I have driven by David's Dumpling and Noodle Bar a lot but this was my first time in...and I will definitely be back. We started with a draft Japanese beer and sharing the dumplings. They were tasty, light and just a great start to the meal. I ordered the Pad Thai with Chicken and it was a gracious plenty, enough for lunch the next day. My friend ordered the Malaysian Curry Soup and I am ordering a noodle bowl next time, she loved it. We topped it off by sharing dessert which was a Roasted Pear with Ginger Ice Cream. Stopped in on the way home from a Night Market because it was pouring, and we had driven by this place and few times before. We decided to try out a few of the small plates. The restaurant is very spacious, and there were only 3 tables in use when we arrived, so we were spaced out well. I ordered the hot green tea, which wasn't very hot, lukewarm at best. The wonton soup, shrimp summer rolls, Pork and Shrimp Sui Mai, Edamame and Mushroom Dumplings, and Veggie Egg Rolls. The soup wasn't the right temp, too lukewarm, but the wontons were spot on, making this my favorite dish of the night. The Sui Mai Dumplings were good also, nice filling, but the oyster sauce on top was so overwhelming and salty, that I had to wipe it off with a napkin. The Summer rolls unfortunately only had one half of a shrimp in each one, which was unfortunate. I can not speak on the other dishes as I didn't try them. The price point was good for the items, however, the temperature and the quality were both lacking for me. I'm not sure if I would come back based solely on the fact that there are far better places to try IMO. read more

Oh my god. A whole place founded in Dumplings and Noodles. You know it has to be amazing, and it IS! It's a very classy affair inside, while still casual. The service has always been great. But I can't underline enough how incredible the dumplings are! There's a huge tapas-style small plates menu from which you can order an entire varied meal to try all the dumplings. Although not dumplings, the soft-shell crab over seaweed salad is also Stellar, as are the spicy shrimp. It actually is very dim-sum-esque. These are not you hole-in-the-wall takeout Chinese dumplings, these are handcrafted varieties of steamed, fried, half-fried and whatever else you can think of. I can't comment on too many of the entrées, as I always get distracted by the noodles, but friends have said those are also truly delicious. The food is always well-presented also. A word of warning: tapas-style dumpling orders can add up fast here, so perhaps consider one entrée to manage the bill. But get down here! read more
