The place was pretty busy when we arrived, which is usually a good sign, but what stood out was how fast the food still came out despite the crowd. The food here is amazing! The chicken katsu is the highlight of our dinner. A gigantic portion size but still crispy and flavorful. Definitely the favorite of the table. The dumplings were also very good, came with a very delicious sauce. The bimibamp was also very good. The veggies were cooked and seasoned well. Bulgolgi was sweet and not too fatty. Delicious food with generous portions. We had wanted to try this place for ages, especially after seeing pictures and read reviews from our fellow Yelpers. Came by on a weeknight so it wasn't as busy, but because the restaurant is on the smaller end with limited number of tables, I can see the wait time being a bit long. The reviews/pictures reels/insta stories were correct, the katsu is huge and the curry compliments it perfectly. You can definitely share it with 2-3, if not more friends. Weather's gettin cold so I got the Beef soup. It was very hearty, rounded, and a reminder that even humblest of menu items can satisfy us. The bon chon is the milder side, whereas I like mine a lil punchier but thats just a preference no big deal. The restaurant is nice, dark, and had some cool wooden booths. I came at quiet hours but want to try coming back for drinks n see how it comes alive at night. Service was standard. Came back to Dawa Kitchen because the first visit was so good, and once again it didn't disappoint! This time we tried: garlic Suk Yu, beef pancake, spicy tofu soup, pork katsu with curry, and of course our favorite, the bibimbap. Every dish came out fresh, flavorful, and full of that comforting homestyle Korean taste. The garlic Suk Yu just melt in your mouth , the beef pancake was crispy and paired well with the dipping sauce and topped with flavorful beef. The spicy tofu soup could have been spicier though. From what I could tell, the pork was seasoned with salt and pepper, which was visible when the skin peeled. The Dawa Chicken came with a sauce that leaned on the sweeter side. Arrived here at 6:30pm on a Friday and luckily was seated right away. The parking lot is a bit tight but there's some additional parking in the back. We had the Curry Pork katsu and Garlic su yuk They gave 4 kinds of side dishes. The Curry Pork Katsu portion is big and came with 2 pieces. I've always wanted to try eating here after seeing many social media posts about their giant katsu. The parking lot is small, and can fill up quite quickly, and there is an overfill on the backside of the restaurant. If you can I recommend you make a reservation before you go as dinner time on a weekday was still full. You can also just join the waitlist on Yelp before you arrive! There is plenty of seating inside and the service is prompt, great for groups no bigger than 6 people. The best thing I liked about this place is that the portion sizes are huge and all the food is super delicious. For your first time, you have to get the huge katsu. I've never had a fried katsu so big, and it's the perfect thing to share around the table. We love going here as a family since their portions are huge. Before I talk about the food, let's talk about the other things such as parking and waiting. Their parking lot is small but you can also park on the street. We usually get here right when they open so there's no wait and we can park at any spot. The servers have always been friendly and gives the right amount of "hi how are you, is everything okay" type of greeting. I appreciate it. The restaurant is kinda on the smaller side, so if you have a party of 6-8, it's a little harder to accommodate because most of the booths/tables can handle 4-5 patrons. Also, like I stated, portions are huge and price point is pretty fair for what you get. So no complaints. Now onto the food. We always order the braised beef and the chicken katsu curry. My family loves the braised beef. It's a good balance of flavors, not too salty and not too sweet. They love the kabocha, carrots and other fillers in it and fyi - there's not a lot of it because there's a lot more tender beef in the stew. This is always a hit and the sauce pairs well with the rice. They did order it with the rice noodles but they preferred it with the rice to soak up all the flavorful juices. The chicken katsu curry is huge! They really pound it down to a thin piece of meat. It's not dry, it's fried well and not oily at all. It comes in a stone pot so by the time you've eaten all the rice and etc, you're left with crispy rice. I'm not sure what to call it but it's delicious. For this trip, we also ordered the shrimp pancake, which I thought was just okay. Not sure what batter they used because it was too crispy for our liking. There was a lot of little shrimp though, so no complaints. The dipping sauce was a great addition to it. Also, we ordered the marinated pork. It came in a stone pot with rice, corn and bean sprouts. You mix it all up and it's delicious. We only did it because we noticed that there was a a little of sauce at the bottom of the meat and it was delicious. Mixing it definitely made it so much better. They also give us some banchan and we really like the kimchi they provide (the cucumber and the cabbage one). In previous trips we've ordered the mandu, which was okay, and Dawa chicken and another chicken dish, which were just okay as well. I just say it's just okay because it was fried and the sauces were just sauces. Nothing to write home about. We really just like the katsu and the braised beef a lot. I'm down for Dawa! OK, bad alliteration aside, I do like this Korean restaurant. The following review is based on two separate visits. Food: The menu is not large but the flavors are, for the most part, big. I've ordered the Chicken Katsu With Curry and the Dawa Chicken. Both were very tasty. For the former dish, the portion was huge. HUGE! The chicken katsu was bigger than my face -- no joke! And its panko breading had the perfect crispness. The chicken meat on the inside was a smudge dry, but I balanced it out by dousing it in the curry sauce, which was excellent. The fluffy steamed rice tied everything together beautifully. The latter dish was equally satisfying, but for different reasons. The Dawa Chicken is kinda like chicken nuggets but Korean style, and in my opinion so much better than American-style nuggets. The outside is made of a thick batter of deep fried Korean sauce made in-house, while the inside had moist chicken meat. It came with a freshing side of shredded cabbage with sesame dressing. Before I ordered it, my server said it's more of an appetizer; I had mixed feelings about that because it costs $15 -- a bit pricey for a warmup dish. But I am happy to report that, per Dawa's M.O., the portion was big and was the perfect size for a one-person meal if you're not too concerned with accoutrements. Like most Korean restaurants, Dawa offers free side dishes like kimchee, macaroni salad, and cucumbers. They're not knockouts, but they're nice to have as a complement to the more meaty, savior dishes. The Service: I've had the same server twice and he's great. He won't hover around or touch base too often like you might find at a Western-style restaurant, but he's quick to help if you wave him down. He's also very polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. The Atmosphere: It's not the biggest place, with mostly tables and booths for 4. There's one section in the back where two tables can be slid together for a party of 10. But I wouldn't go here at peak times with a large group. Fortunately, it's nicely decorated, pretty casual, and clean throughout. The Location: It's located in a strip mall with a smallish parking lot, though we always found an open parking spot. The problem though is that the white lines designating each stall are too close together, so vans, SUVs, and trucks will find them to be a tight squeeze. Many larger vehicles end up double-parking just to make sure they can open their doors. Overall: The food is quite tasty, the service is great, and the establishment is clean. The prices are a little higher than expected, and the small parking lot is annoying. But overall, I enjoy Dawa and plan to return! read more

I'm actually surprised that Dawa has any bad ratings at all - we were able to find parking pretty easily even though the parking aisles were a little tight, but our meal service was pretty immaculate. It was really easy to make reservations as there were plenty of times available even at short notice. Our server was really attentive and on top of our requests. We loved the menu - it's straight to the point and the font was so big that it was super easy to read. My husband and I shared a Curry Chicken Katsu and a Mac & Cheese Corn and it was more than enough food between the two of us. The katsu is GIGANTIC so we ended up taking some of it home. The curry it came with was really good too. The Mac & Cheese corn was also a really big portion and they did not skimp out on any of the ingredients. The Mac & Cheese Corn was good but also a little heavy - it was basically the complimentary corn that our meal came with but loaded with cheese.
