Great concept! Good Korean street style food. Chewy, savory, and packed with flavor! It appears that you choose a base (red, spicy sauce, black bean sauce, etc) and you can add all the add ins you want! Well, for an additional fee of course! Ramen noodles, eggs, veggies, top it off with cheese, etc! Really hits the spot! I don't know if the add on items are available all the time however. When I went, the bar of add on's was there but there was nothing in the boxes. Maybe they add it on in the back? Drink options are cans and bottles and limited to basics: water, coke, Coke Zero, etc.

Hidden gem inside H Mart supermarket. The only place I found were offering giant rice cake yet with perfect texture. Since this is in the food court, you will need to order first before seated. I ordered Rose Tteobboki which super creamy and added noodles which probably the best noodles texture I ever ate. There was also one sausage, boiled egg and fish cake! Found a place to be my regular eating tteobboki

Had to stop by the H-Mart in Garden Grove later at night for some last minute groceries and really wanted to pick up some dinner from the adjoining food court at the same time. To my dismay, although the booths were still lit, they were all unmanned, presumably closed for the evening. But thankfully Halgatteok came through! True to their word, their hours state they are open until 8:30 PM. The man at the counter was very friendly and helpful while I was making my choice, walking me through the different "tteok" they offer - soft, chewy or jumbo sized. I picked the rose tteokbokki with chewy ssal tteok, spice level 2 and ramen noodles. I chose to take my meal to go, which took only about 15 minutes for preparation, and while waiting was largely entertained by their looping ad video of the halmoni spokesperson dancing and cooking rice cakes. Packaging was airtight and spill proof, which I loved, so that by the time I got home, everything tasted hot and fresh - the ramen wasn't overly soggy and the rose sauce a perfect blend of creamy and spicy. Already craving the meal again!

Chewy and delicious Korean rice cakes! Located inside the Garden Grove Hmart, Halgatteok came as a wonderful surprise. We had received a coupon to try their teokbokki, and it was delicious! My Korean husband named it as one of the best teokbokki spots in OC. The spice levels were also no joke. I got the medium, or level 2, and it was spicyyyy. However, I think it does depend on the person working and how they make it. We loved the addition of ramen, which is as perfectly al dente. We will definitely stop by again when grocery shopping!

Gimmari (Seaweed Rolls, 5 pcs) - It was good, lightly crispy and had the typical vermicelli filling, but small in size.

A popular francise in Korea has opened in Garden Grove! It seems there are locations in LA, Northridge, Las Vegas and Utah as well. Not sure if there were more. Halgatteok is an acronym for grandma's garae rice cakes. Garae rice cakes are large, cylinder- shaped rice cakes. Tried these two weeks ago for take-out. GRANDMA TTEOKBOKKI This comes with the original tteokbokki sauce, as some would say, old school tteokbokki. You can choose the types of rice cakes and also can adjust the heat/spice level. I ordered the garae rice cake, spice level 2, which was slightly spicier than sriracha. But not Yup Dduk level spice. There were about 4-5 rice cakes with fish cakes and a boiled egg. Really enjoyed the thicker rice cakes, which were deliciously chewy. It's meant to be chewier than the typical rice cakes in tteokbokki. Even though it was take-out, the food was hot and the rice cakes were not overcooked. GIMMARI (Fried Seaweed Roll) / 5 pcs This was good, but so small. Wish I ordered more. This was take-out and I wasn't the person picking up the food, so I cannot comment on customer service. However, I am definitely coming back to try more of their other items.

Friendly and swift service. Tasty bites! This is a great entry point for any non-Korean person who wants to try Korean street food. Their spicy and sweet sauce was on point. However, I have to say level 1 (lowest heat level) may still be too spicy for some. I think they would benefit from considering a level "half" (0.5). That said, for those who love fire spicy, you can achieve that by requesting for their hottest level. I didn't realize that there are 3 different types of rice cakes. I chose the "garae tteok" which is the most traditional version, made of rice. I found the texture of the rice cake very pleasing. Chewy, thick, and rich. I hope they stay true to this quality and recipe for years to come (no dilution/substitution to cut corners/$). On the theme of helpful suggestions, please consider opening one in South OC. Garden Grove was quite a drive away... You've got lots of Koreans, Asians, and K-Food lovers in South OC! Come this way for more business :-) The fried dumplings were nice and Krispy (not greasy). A great side for vegetarians as it is full of mung bean or sweet potato noodles (that's it). But for anyone who likes protein in their dumpling, it was a bit odd. There should have been at least veggies or tofu or beef or pork. This was a noodle dumpling only. In summary, check this place out. It's delish! Wishing this new biz lots of success!! They opened this month (January 2025).

    1. Both dishes tasted delicious, and the portions are generous! 2. The spot has fun casual vibes as it is located inside an Hmart! 3. There are indoor tables! 4. The staff were friendly, and they will give you a pager to alert you when the order is ready! 5. Parking lot can get crowded depending on time and day! Note: This spot does not have their own restroom, but there is shared restroom in the food court! Photo: Multteok Fish Cake Soup and Rose Tteokbokki

I needed to feed a college student after picking her up from the airport at 3:10 PM. Our other Asian choices of Japanese ramen and Vietnamese diner would be closed for the afternoon until dinner. I had seen on Instagram that Halgatteok which served Korean street food was now open in Garden Grove and the United States. It being situated in the Food Court of H Mart, the college student would also be able to get groceries. The man was very patient with my daughter and my niece as they tried to decide what to order. I had already placed my order for Combo B with mil tteok which he had explained is the softest of the 3 tteok offered. I went with the mildest spice level of 1 and a rose tteokbokki. The combo also included tempura and fish cake soup. Daughter went with jjajang tteokbokki and a garae tteok, a longer and thicker tteok, adding additional noodle topping from the toppings bar which is an additional $3.49 per 1/4 pound over the cost of the main dish. Niece also got rose tteokbokki at a spice level of 1. The spokeswoman for the Korean stall is a popular Korean actress who plays a powerful chairwoman and grandmother in Korean dramas. We watched the reel of her promoting the rice noodles. The man brought our food out to the table we chose to sit at in the Food Court. The Combo B was plenty of food and the daughter who had not ordered anything had a meal just by eating something from everybody's orders. There was fish cake in everything. We liked the fish cake on the skewers. The soup was not too salty. I had added cheese to my rose tteokbokki which my niece had not so the rose tteokbokki was a little spicy for her. There was sausage, bacon, and carrot pieces in the rose tteokbokki. We had never had jjajang tteokbokki before nor the longer garae tteok. It wasn't overly chewy and we liked the black bean sauce. A couple of young girls also came to eat from Halgatteok while we were having our meal. Otherwise, it was quiet for late afternoon not quite dinner time yet. Daughter says that she will order Grandma Tteokbokki next time.

Located inside the H-Mart food court, Halgatteok is a great option for Korean food. I only tried Halgatteok once at their k-town location, and I'm glad there's finally another location that is slightly closer to me in orange county. Came on the day after their grand opening, and parking is a bit hard in the plaza even at around 5pm, but we managed to find a spot. The staff members were nice and welcoming. I got takeout, and they informed me it would take about 20 minutes, which was pretty accurate. When I got back home, the food was still hot which was nice, and I appreciate them sealing the container so that the food doesn't drip out. I ordered the grandma tteokbokki, and specifically I chose the garae tteok as the type of rice cake out of 3 options (the other 2 which I believe are cut into smaller pieces and are softer while the garae is long and bigger). I did level 1 spice because I didn't want it to be too spicy, and it was just right for me, it definitely had a kick to it (and was pretty red in color) but it was manageable. I also got the gimmari fried seaweed roll as my side that came with 5 pieces. The tteokbokki is really good, there were three big long pieces and they were chewy. There was pretty generous amounts of fishcake, a long piece of tempura, and an egg . As for the gimmari, it was good too, it would be even better if it was eaten in-person, but for takeout it still had a bit of crunchiness and I liked dipping it in the tteokbokki sauce (though it did come with its own soy sauce kind of dip). Overall, I'm glad I got to try this place again, and would recommend this location! I am curious about the jjajang flavor and the rose, so I would try those next time.

Checked this place out after hearing good things - it's located in the Garden Grove Hmart food court so it's a small and quaint stall with shared seating. We got Combo B which came with your tteokbokki of choice, tempura, and fishcake soup. All were equally delicious and the garaetteok really made the dish! Chewy and satisfying to eat! Service was great as well.

The food was amazing! Went on New Years day, there was only one person working and he was super helpful, kind, and attentive. He let us swap out the bacon for more fish cake since I don't eat bacon. We're visting from the Bay Area & we dream about this meal still and wish we had this meal up here. The sauce wasn't too spicy & I wish I could've tried it at level 3. The service was friendly and fast. It was really filling for two people, although I was considering ordering more. Definitely coming back when we're in the area, worth the drive and money + the prices are more than fair!

My fiancé and I tried this place during grand opening weekend! It was pretty busy when we went, but we didn't have to wait very long to order or get our food! The service was very good and the tteoboki was so yummy. My fiancé and I shared a rose tteoboki (we got the normal size one that was super soft and chewy- I think it was option 1- with medium spice). We added cheese and ramen in it and it was SO GOOD! I would highly recommend. We also got the fried seaweed wrap (I don't remember what it was called, but it was just rice wrapped in seaweed) and dipped it in the rose sauce instead of the sauce it came with. All in all, it was a pretty filling meal! Next time I stop by, I'll try the grandma tteoboki with the giant rice cakes!

Their pork dishes are DELISHHHH (i recommend skipping the beef brisket) and I love that they cook the meat for you so you can just DIG IN. Their meat is high quality which I think justifies the price. Combo A/B will feed 2 people and C/D/E is just enough for 3-4 people! I love the lil extra goodies they include like the pineapple, mushroom, and cheese... so yum.... For the combos, I prefer the kimchi stew over the soybean stew since the soybean is a little salty for me. Make sure to order the cold noodles too - they complement the meat SO WELL.

While we waited for the grill to get going, we snacked on the banchan. The pickled dishes and spring greens were especially refreshing and did a great job balancing out all the rich flavors to come. The highlight was definitely the meat. Everything was grilled perfectly and came out incredibly juicy, tender, and flavorful. What I loved most was how many different ways there were to enjoy each bite. You can dip the pork into the garlic oil sauce, add a little wasabi, pair it with the melted grilled cheese, wrap it with myeong yi, sprinkle on some salt, or simply enjoy the quality of the meat on its own. Every combination brought out a different flavor profile, so the meal never got repetitive. The soups were comforting and packed with flavor, making them a great complement to the barbecue. Overall, this was a really satisfying KBBQ experience.
