I ordered the japchae, spicy pork katsu, and the bulgogi rice dish. The service was fast and efficient, and our food came out quickly. My favorite was definitely the spicy pork katsu. The curry had a rich, flavorful taste, and the katsu was perfectly crispy on the outside while staying tender and juicy on the inside. I would definitely come back just for this dish! The japchae was well-seasoned and packed with flavor, but it wasn't my personal favorite. The bulgogi rice dish was also delicious the beef was flavorful and paired really well with the rice. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely come back to try more of the menu.
Came here for dinner with my daughter and it's her second time, and it's my first time here. This place has the best braised beef soup. It's very good and delicious. We ordered the braised beef and it was very good and good portion as well. They bring out Kim chi, chili cucumber, sweet and sour daikon and macaroni salad as well and there isn't any charge, if you wanted more they can bring you it out more. Service here is very good. We had a waiter and he was running the ordering the cleaning the tables and bringing out food all by himself. Even tho it was busy but he still has a great smile, attentive and friendly as well.. Great job my waiter!!! Ambience here is alittle small but roomy. No t.v and no music. It's casual wear. It's absolutely my go-to definitely when I'm back in town.
This place is INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS! I was definitely wow'd by the flavor! I ordered chicken curry katsu and the rice cakes. Hands down, best katsu I've had in a very long time. I love that it comes out piping hot on the stone plate. Underneath the huge katsu is half rice and half curry. At first I didn't think there was any rice until I cut into the katsu. The portions are shareable! Could've easily fed 3-4 people. I went by myself and I would go by myself again and order more than 1 dish again. The banchan is also SO DELICIOUS & you can ask for refills.
Asian Fusion Korean food! A hide Gem with good size portions. The Pork cutlet with curry was massive, it didn't disappoint! Good flavor and huge portions. The bonchon was good and the bibimbop was great too, wish an egg was included instead of a separate item.
Visited on a Saturday evening and we were able to get seated right away for a party of 5. It was quite late too so we probably got lucky. Clean, cozy size restaurant. Staff were friendly and had a good amount of attentiveness. Everything we ordered was so good! I'm happy to find this Korean spot. Anything you order off the menu will be good. Portions are shareable but of course you can still enjoy them on your own. I will definitely come back!
I think I would give this place 3.5/5 but it won't let me do half stars. the service sat us quickly and was attentive. we did go at an off peak hour, so i'm not sure if there are waits normally. the garlic su yuk is one of the best i've ever tried! would 100% order this again. The mandu are good, but there's so many other things on this menu I want to try, I would probably choose something else to try next time. The mac and corn cheese was interesting in a good way. The thing that makes me a little sad is that I heard about this place because of their katsu. However, the chicken katsu was pretty dry. It was huge tho and I'm hoping that the pork one wouldn't be as dry.

SOOO GOOD!!! went here with my cousins and we only got two entres and one appetizer which filled us up and there were only 5 of us...thats how big their portions are everything was sooo good and came out relatively fast. only complaint i have is that the cheese corn mac had more cheese than corn and macaroni noodles... like a LOT if cheese but it was still good just wouldnt get again definitely would recommend getting the katsu curry and the beef belly!! they were so flavorful and good (btw there is rice on the bottom)
Food Order: Pork Katsu with Curry (1) Bibimbap with bulgogi add on (1) teok bokki (1) Highlights: - great ambiance, friendly staff! - good side dishes, generously given - good texture for the curry and food was not too spicy - gochujang with the bibimbap was amazing! Cons: - everything was a bit sweet - the pork katsu was a bit bland as well as the mac salad side dish - the pork katsu sort of peeled away from the meat because of the heat of the dish overall: - great service, big portions, would visit again! just beware if you want a spicer version of these dishes and a stronger taste. the katsu could have been a bit crisper as well, I think the bibimbap was done very well. the dishes are served in a stone plate keeping them hot through the meal
Man was I surprised by this one! Dawa Kitchen is a delicious spot nestled in the corner of the plaza. FOOD: The Katsu Curry is easily the best deal on the menu for sharing. For $25 you get a huge chicken katsu with curry pairing. The katsu was crispy, hot, and fresh when it came out. Very tasty! The curry itself is good, but doesn't have the same punch of flavor as other curry katsu places. Still good though! This dish could definitely feed 2 people. We also opted for the Ddeokbokki. This dish had great flavor and the rice cakes were cooked perfectly! Just as a heads up, if you are used to Ddeokbokki having extra's like fish cake and cheese, this does not come with it unless added. Overall, for value and flavor this is great! PARKING: Parking is tight in the complex and I would recommend getting there early just in case there's none available. WAIT/AMBIANCE: This place was packed when we arrived with a clear waitlist of 5+ parties. Try to get on the Yelp waitlist ahead of time to make sure you get seated in a timely manner. You can also look to make a reservation as that was also faster for me! Overall ambiance is good, and the restaurant was playing some Justin Bieber! DRINKS: For a casual dining place we opted to get soju and a beer as it was $10 per bottle. Also not too bad of a deal to pair with your meal! Overall would recommend this place! Delicious and great value!
TLDR - food is good, portions are good, service is good, parking is a little tight if the mall is busy - would recommend. Came back and decided to try a couple other things. we tried the chicken katsu curry instead of the pork and we got the beef belly stone pot bowl. I would say the pork katsu is probably a better buy than the chicken. The breading on the chicken falls apart too easily and leads to an unpleasant eating experience. The beef belly stone pot rice is good but it really feels like I could make it at home. Overall a pleasant experience - the spicy curry actually has a decent kick to it so if you are a fan of spicy curry I would recommend.
Yummy food and basically no wait everyone I go! The restaurant is fairly small, but not crowded. I usually get the bibimbap, mac and corn cheese, and the army ramen. Everything is delicious but two notes I'd like to add is that there is a $3 up charge to add bulgogi to the bibimbap. I'm happy to pay the charge but the amount is very small and you end up not tasting the meat throughout the dish. My second note is that there is hardly any service, even as a sit down restaurant. They only come by to have you order, bring your food, then your check. Anything you need in between you will have to walk to the kitchen to request. Aside from that, I am very satisfied with the general quality and taste of the food. I will be coming in soon to try the famous curry chicken katsu!
Dawa used to be so good when it first opened. Went on a Sunday afternoon and they were out of braised beef and the curry pork was so overcooked and super dry. We also ordered the tofu stew and the beef inside that was also dry. Skip this restaurant

I'm down for Dawa! OK, bad alliteration aside, I do like this Korean restaurant. The following review is based on two separate visits. Food: The menu is not large but the flavors are, for the most part, big. I've ordered the Chicken Katsu With Curry and the Dawa Chicken. Both were very tasty. For the former dish, the portion was huge. HUGE! The chicken katsu was bigger than my face -- no joke! And its panko breading had the perfect crispness. The chicken meat on the inside was a smudge dry, but I balanced it out by dousing it in the curry sauce, which was excellent. The fluffy steamed rice tied everything together beautifully. The latter dish was equally satisfying, but for different reasons. The Dawa Chicken is kinda like chicken nuggets but Korean style, and in my opinion so much better than American-style nuggets. The outside is made of a thick batter of deep fried Korean sauce made in-house, while the inside had moist chicken meat. It came with a freshing side of shredded cabbage with sesame dressing. Before I ordered it, my server said it's more of an appetizer; I had mixed feelings about that because it costs $15 -- a bit pricey for a warmup dish. But I am happy to report that, per Dawa's M.O., the portion was big and was the perfect size for a one-person meal if you're not too concerned with accoutrements. Like most Korean restaurants, Dawa offers free side dishes like kimchee, macaroni salad, and cucumbers. They're not knockouts, but they're nice to have as a complement to the more meaty, savior dishes. The Service: I've had the same server twice and he's great. He won't hover around or touch base too often like you might find at a Western-style restaurant, but he's quick to help if you wave him down. He's also very polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. The Atmosphere: It's not the biggest place, with mostly tables and booths for 4. There's one section in the back where two tables can be slid together for a party of 10. But I wouldn't go here at peak times with a large group. Fortunately, it's nicely decorated, pretty casual, and clean throughout. The Location: It's located in a strip mall with a smallish parking lot, though we always found an open parking spot. The problem though is that the white lines designating each stall are too close together, so vans, SUVs, and trucks will find them to be a tight squeeze. Many larger vehicles end up double-parking just to make sure they can open their doors. Overall: The food is quite tasty, the service is great, and the establishment is clean. The prices are a little higher than expected, and the small parking lot is annoying. But overall, I enjoy Dawa and plan to return! read more

Came on a Tuesday night and there was no wait. Went with my family (party of 5), and the total was around $111 with tax and tip (auto gratuity gets added). We tried the braised beef with cheese $64 and pork $24 hot stone pot. The beef was on the sweeter side and the pork was saltier, both had their own flavor, but I preferred the beef. The banchan was tasty and we got refills, which was a nice plus. Service was pretty minimal. Ambiance is clean, chill, casual, with very dim lighting. read more

We ate during friday night and the waitlist line is above normal. It was a little busy but the servers were accommodating and nice. We had the Curry Pork katsu and Garlic su yuk They gave 4 kinds of side dishes. The Curry Pork Katsu portion is big and came with 2 pieces. The coating is crispy and seasoned well, the meat is easy to cut and chew. The rice is under the meat and since it's in a claypot, the bottom part became crispy which I like. We had the sauce spicy and spiciness level is around medium. For the Garlic Su Yuk, the meat is very tender and it has a rich flavor in itself. My boyfriend liked this a lot. Spread a little garlic paste and spicy sauce on top and pair with rice. The green onions should be added to the broth while it's still simmering. Bonus points for their restrooms being clean and tidy. read more

This restaurant is on the smaller side so I would recommend putting your name on the waitlist just in case! Their pork and beef belly dishes were so good. And the portion sizes are huge (katsu bigger than your face) that I would recommend sharing the dishes so you could try all of them. You can also ask for more sides. read more
Viral giant Katsu on tiktok! I came here on a Saturday for lunch and we didn't have to wait at all! We ordered army stew and curry chicken katsu and it was HUGEEEE!! This could prob feed 3-4 people so bring a friend! Army stew was good and curry was very well seasoned. I would definitely come back again! read more
Lived in Garden grove for a majority of my life and thought I'd journeyed to a majority of Korean restaurants, but this was a gem in a very inconspicuous plaza. When we came in the restaurant gave vibes of party and an amazing time! The restaurant is a bit on the smaller side but since we got there early it wasn't too wild yet. The server was very accommodating to our party of 7! We were seated very quick, and we were able to place our orders in quickly with turn around of it coming out just as quick! The pictures of the food do it a disservice, you are better actually eating it! We ordered the Dawa chicken, garlic su yuk, Korean pancake with bulgogi, and the curry chicken katsu. Everyone dined in so quick I was only able to get a photo of the hot stone bulgogi rice. ALL of the plates ordered were amazing, the house special dawa chicken was flavored well with just the right spicy and sweet, the garlic su yuk had pork belly that was just break apart in the mouth with mildly spicy but full of flavor. The curry was semi spicy, and when paired with the chicken was great mix, albeit the chicken was a bit thin. The bulgogi Korean pancake was the best I've ever had in terms of how crispy and flavorful it was. I'm definitely coming back for more in the future! Let's go!! read more

I'm actually surprised that Dawa has any bad ratings at all - we were able to find parking pretty easily even though the parking aisles were a little tight, but our meal service was pretty immaculate. It was really easy to make reservations as there were plenty of times available even at short notice. Our server was really attentive and on top of our requests. We loved the menu - it's straight to the point and the font was so big that it was super easy to read. My husband and I shared a Curry Chicken Katsu and a Mac & Cheese Corn and it was more than enough food between the two of us. The katsu is GIGANTIC so we ended up taking some of it home. The curry it came with was really good too. The Mac & Cheese corn was also a really big portion and they did not skimp out on any of the ingredients. The Mac & Cheese Corn was good but also a little heavy - it was basically the complimentary corn that our meal came with but loaded with cheese. We thought it was bang for our buck so we'd definitely come back! read more

The ban chan here is always fresh and delicious. My favorite dish is the beef belly fried rice, it's packed with so much flavor. The portions are huge, which makes it great for sharing. I also love that everything comes in a hot stone bowl so it stays warm the whole time, perfect for family style dining. read more

SUCH good serving sizes & reasonable prices! would recommend going in a group to split the cost. wait times can get crazy so plan accordingly. original braised beef: 10/10 has so many contents including tteokbokki that's so good and melts in your mouth! curry pork/chicken katsu: 9.9/10 docked 0.1 of a point bc it was too much for 5 people which speaks volumes lol but curry is good! rice is on the softer side :) mandu: 10/10 perfectly cooked! sauce is good too :) read more

If you love big portions, this is the place to be! My jaw literally dropped when the massive katsu hit the table -- it was crispy, flavorful, and totally satisfying. The restaurant itself is fairly small, and there was a bit of a wait when we arrived, but it was 100% worth it. The food speaks for itself, and the portion size alone makes it a great value. Came in for the seafood pancake, but enjoyed every dish we ordered. This place has a big bench/table seating area. I recommend making reservations and arrive hungry! Portions are reasonable and make sharing easy. We ordered the japchae, which is hot and contains broth. My party had never encountered a japchae like this, and it was a hit. The panchan is flavorful and the spice level is nice. The other dishes ordered were braised beef and soondubu jigae. read more
TikTok brought me here, the wait was atrocious, but hey what are you expecting from a TikTok restaurant. Overall, it's good, I wouldn't say it's a to die for food, but it wasn't bad either. The pork katsu was the highlight, not in terms of taste as it tasted like any other katsu, but the size of the pork is instagrammable. The value however is something youd go back for, it was a huge serving for the price. The army stew was great, the flavor was great and tasted better than most army stews in the area, but im a sucker for easy-cook ramen soup. (Although the half cheese slice is laughable). The service was just average, it took a while for my order to be taken, with my water cup fairly empty at most times. The restaurant decor didn't have much and just felt like a regular ole korean restaurant, so not much to talk about regarding interiors. TLDR: Unfortunately a one and done for me, but if its your first time, its a great place to try. 3.5 stars for me, nothing to go crazy about, nothing to complain about. The chicken katsu is bigger than my head! It comes with a side of curry rice, and omg it is sooo tasty. They also have plenty of sides including sweet potato noodles. Additionally, the Korean army stew is not bad, it has spam, American cheese and soft rice cakes. Service is quick, ambiance is casual. read more
Portion sizes are HUGE! Would definitely recommend coming here with at least one other person as most of these dishes are definitely meant to be shared. My friends and I wasn't aware of this and ordered our own dishes. I ordered the beef belly which was like a bigger, better version of a sizzling beef and rice plate. However, because of how big it was, I got tired of the taste pretty quickly. That's why I think it's a good idea to share dishes at this restaurant, so you can try different dishes and are not committed to a lot of a single dish! The side dishes were very good; our favorite was the macaroni. The interior is very cozy and a cute place to have lunch or dinner. read more

My sister and I decided to try DAWA. It was in a random plaza and the parking lot was pretty tight. However, once we stepped inside the restaurant, it was warm and cozy. There were about 10-15 tables, only indoor seating. We came on a Thurs night. We had put ourselves on the waitlist through Yelp ahead so that was nice. We got the pork katsu which came with white rice in a hot stone pot. The katsu was HUGE. Exactly what we saw on social media. They gave you scissors to cut it and we even had leftover katsu to bring home. We also tried the beef soup with glass noodles. Overall It was pretty good and I would def come back! Service was good. Went here a few weeks ago with my wife and ordered the spicy tofu soup and the katsu. The food was delicious and they are definitely generous with the portions. I wanted to point out their honesty and overall quality of the service. Midway through the meal, our server came by with another piece of katsu because they thought they were skimping on us. They didn't have to do that at all considering the katsu was already massive. Following that, we ordered take out and forgot to check the bag before heading home. We realized that there was no curry. I called the restaurant and they refunded us. Overall, great food and great people. Dawa has become one of our staples in the rotation. read more
MASSIVE portions!! Dawa looks pretty unassuming from the outside, located in a random plaza with ample parking. But once you get inside, it's a pretty cozy space with ~10 or so tables! Came on a Friday night and it was pretty busy, but didn't have to wait for a table which was nice. The highlight of of Dawa imo is the massive portion sizes and comforting, home style Korean food! Definitely come here with a few people, as all of the dishes are intended for family style / sharing. We got the curry chicken katsu, beef belly rice, and garlic suyuk. The garlic suyuk was our favorite! Super tender and flavorful pork belly that melted in your mouth. Beef belly rice was like an elevated Pepper Lunch. Chicken Katsu was crispy and flavorful. Everything here comes in a hot stone pot that keeps the food ripping hot all night long. For the rice dishes, it created that scorched rice effect on the bottom, which was a nice little treat. We were close by and saw that this restaurant had a high star review. We checked it out and this place did not disappoint. I was leading towards 4 and 5 stars. The restaurant was empty on a Friday afternoon. There wasn't that much seating, but the inside had a lot of room. We sat down and the server was patient with us. We ordered the curry pork katsu and the bulgogi rice pot. The food and bon chon came out in about 15 mins which was pretty quick. The banchan was really good, especially the macaroni salad. The curry pork katsu was HUGE and it tasted perfectly seasoned. The bulgogi rice pot was good with also a good portion, but I felt like it needed alittle more sauce in it. The total was $54 before tip. Overall, the service was really good, food was great, and was a tiny bit pricey, but the portions were huge. Definitely recommend this korean restaurant if you're craving and wanting a huge chicken katsu! read more

Came on a Saturday afternoon and there was no wait! They still ask you to join the line so they can prep your table, which takes 2-3 minutes. Waiter was very patient when we were deciding what to order and our food came out quickly! The food is amazing! The portion is huge for the price and the food is delicious! Spicy pork hot stone - so good! I love the crispy rice on the bottom and there was a lot of it! I had left overs for 2 additional meal! read more

The sides here are fire. I got the beef belly ramen and KFC. The chicken had too much breading but good flavor. Ramen needed more stuff in it but the broth was super yummy and I took it home to eat with other stuff. read more
I was really between 4 or 5 stars, but I decided to give Dawa the benefit of the doubt for now because overall, we had a great meal. The reason is that our pork katsu was dry. Yes, it is huge, but I think it's because they pound the living daylight out of it. Our katsu was flat, which is why I think it was over cooked. Everyone else in this review section seems to like it though, so what do I know. Everything else was really good. The star of the show for me was the Mac and Corn Cheese. God, that was absolutely delicious - warm, gooey, and savory. I also really liked the scallion pancake with bulgogi. Crispy and yummy - done very well. It could do without the dipping sauce on the side. Japchae was also very good. I liked everything we ordered more than the katsu. But I also feel like your signature dish should be... better. I do plan on coming back to see if I have the same issue with the katsu. Service was good. We had a reservation and were seated timely. Food came out pretty fast. Seating area is casual. The restaurant is kinda small, so maybe that's why the wait can get a bit long. But you can totally just make a reservation on Yelp. read more
Ate at Dawa this past Sunday and thought the food was solid. We arrived when they opened at 11:30 and it wasn't busy but by the time we left around 12:30 most of the tables were full. There isn't a ton of parking outside but it wasn't difficult to find a spot around noon. Service was quick and friendly - the food didn't take long at all to be ready. For the food itself, we ordered the pork katsu with curry, beef belly ramen, shrimp korean pancake and Bulgogi Bibimbap. The katsu is what everyone shows pictures of and rightfully so - it's absolutely massive and crispy. The beef belly ramen was good and had a medium kick to it. The shrimp pancake was probably my favorite of the items we ordered - good flavor and texture. The Bulgogi Bibimbap was solid but wasn't my favorite of the four. Overall the portion sizes here are very large and a good value for the price. All the dishes were good but not amazing - would come back if I were in the area and craving Korean food but wouldn't make a special trip to come back. read more
Heard of this place from social media, so we gave it a try. It did not disappoint! FOOD: Curry pork katsu over rice: 5/5. The pork katsu was humongous. Like the size of our faces lol. It was crispy and delicious. I wish they would have given more curry sauce and put it on the side so I he katsu doesn't get soggy from the sauce. Dduk Bok K: 4/5 This item was great. However, if they could add some fried fish cakes in it so that we're not eating all starch and carbs. Bugolgi with pancakes: 4/5 The pancakes was a bit soggy and the Bugolgi was too minced. I wished they would just serve jr the way it is without chopping it to the point where it looks like minced beef. I like how they served complimentary side dishes that are refillable. The kimchi and cucumbers were delicious!! Service: 5/5 Service was great. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Ambience: 5/5 The place is clean. However, they are all booth tables. Not sure how they can accommodate bigger parties of more than 4 people or ADA customers. Something the owner should look into consideration. I would recommend this place for a good curry pork katsu! Had an awesome first experience at Dawa Kitchen! Parking lot is small, but thankfully there were plenty of spots (kind of small I'd recommend taking a smaller car if you have one). We had a reservation for 12:00PM today (Sunday), but it wasn't too busy. We were seated quickly and Ryan served us both quickly and with plenty of kindness (thanks Ryan!) The ambiance is really nice, even the light covers have art and language on it. Food was fresh and yummy (see ratings in the photos). No photo of the shrimp Korean pancake but that is definitely a must get! Loved the rice cakes, but not a fan of the way the fish cakes are cut all thin and put on top. Would definitely come back and price for the amount of food eating was INCREDIBLE! read more

This place has always been on my list for a while now and funny story; I thought this was in the Korean district but it was in Santa Ana and I was going the wrong way for 10 minutes until I realized it was the other way. Anyways, shoutout to the staff for welcoming a large part last minute. Galbi Jim (5/5): A little bit on the pricier end, but definitely a must get with a large party, especially if you love meat. The meat was so tender and juicy. The marinate made it very sweet Chicken Katsu Curry (4/5): Should've gotten pork instead, but my party mostly eats chicken. Regardless this was the biggest katsu I have ever seen in my life. Even though chicken is usually dry, I think there should be more curry to accommodate the giant katsu. What are the hours? On Yelp it says it's only open on Mondays?

We've been looking for spicy curry Katsu since the closure of Curry House. Is your curry spicy (hot spicy)? If not, can it be modified for a spicy flavor?

Unfortunately, we don’t take any reservations. You can join the yelp waiting list by visiting our restaurant. The seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

We do not carry any alcoholic beverages yet, but the good news is we are currently working on it, so will have them soon! Yay😉
Do they have enough parking space available during the weekend?
There is some extra parking in the back but now that it's getting more popular parking can be difficult.
