Lived in Garden grove for a majority of my life and thought I'd journeyed to a majority of Korean restaurants, but this was a gem in a very inconspicuous plaza. When we came in the restaurant gave vibes of party and an amazing time! The restaurant is a bit on the smaller side but since we got there early it wasn't too wild yet. The server was very accommodating to our party of 7! We were seated very quick, and we were able to place our orders in quickly with turn around of it coming out just as quick! The pictures of the food do it a disservice, you are better actually eating it! We ordered the Dawa chicken, garlic su yuk, Korean pancake with bulgogi, and the curry chicken katsu. Everyone dined in so quick I was only able to get a photo of the hot stone bulgogi rice. ALL of the plates ordered were amazing, the house special dawa chicken was flavored well with just the right spicy and sweet, the garlic su yuk had pork belly that was just break apart in the mouth with mildly spicy but full of flavor. The curry was semi spicy, and when paired with the chicken was great mix, albeit the chicken was a bit thin. The bulgogi Korean pancake was the best I've ever had in terms of how crispy and flavorful it was. I'm definitely coming back for more in the future! Let's go!! read more

TikTok brought me here, the wait was atrocious, but hey what are you expecting from a TikTok restaurant. Overall, it's good, I wouldn't say it's a to die for food, but it wasn't bad either. The pork katsu was the highlight, not in terms of taste as it tasted like any other katsu, but the size of the pork is instagrammable. The value however is something youd go back for, it was a huge serving for the price. The army stew was great, the flavor was great and tasted better than most army stews in the area, but im a sucker for easy-cook ramen soup. (Although the half cheese slice is laughable). Went here a few weeks ago with my wife and ordered the spicy tofu soup and the katsu. The food was delicious and they are definitely generous with the portions. I wanted to point out their honesty and overall quality of the service. Midway through the meal, our server came by with another piece of katsu because they thought they were skimping on us. They didn't have to do that at all considering the katsu was already massive. Following that, we ordered take out and forgot to check the bag before heading home. We realized that there was no curry. The restaurant was empty on a Friday afternoon. There wasn't that much seating, but the inside had a lot of room. We sat down and the server was patient with us. I had a great first experience eating here. Upon arrival we were seated immediately, luckily beating the dinner rush because it definitely got a little busy on a Friday night. My husband and I shared the Korean pancake with shrimp, pork katsu curry, and the bulgogi bowl. I love that banchan was also provided which were a macaroni salad, kimchi, kimchi cucumber, and pickled radish. Everything was delicious. The Korean pancake was my favorite choice forsure and it came with a soy based dipping sauce (assuming it was soy not 100% sure) Inside it's very cozy booths to sit in. I was really between 4 or 5 stars, but I decided to give Dawa the benefit of the doubt for now because overall, we had a great meal. The reason is that our pork katsu was dry. Yes, it is huge, but I think it's because they pound the living daylight out of it. Our katsu was flat, which is why I think it was over cooked. Everyone else in this review section seems to like it though, so what do I know. Everything else was really good. The star of the show for me was the Mac and Corn Cheese. God, that was absolutely delicious - warm, gooey, and savory. I also really liked the scallion pancake with bulgogi. Crispy and yummy - done very well. It could do without the dipping sauce on the side. Japchae was also very good. I liked everything we ordered more than the katsu. But I also feel like your signature dish should be... better. Ate at Dawa this past Sunday and thought the food was solid. We arrived when they opened at 11:30 and it wasn't busy but by the time we left around 12:30 most of the tables were full. There isn't a ton of parking outside but it wasn't difficult to find a spot around noon. Service was quick and friendly - the food didn't take long at all to be ready. For the food itself, we ordered the pork katsu with curry, beef belly ramen, shrimp korean pancake and Bulgogi Bibimbap. The katsu is what everyone shows pictures of and rightfully so - it's absolutely massive and crispy. The beef belly ramen was good and had a medium kick to it. The shrimp pancake was probably my favorite of the items we ordered - good flavor and texture. The Bulgogi Bibimbap was solid but wasn't my favorite of the four. Overall the portion sizes here are very large and a good value for the price. Fire!! Dawa is and has been my go to safe restaurant since I found it. There was a month where I dined literally once every week. I love the food. The Army Ramen, although basic, always hits the right spot I have no idea why. The Spicy Pork Rice is also top top. At this point I've tried almost everything on the menu and those two are the must tries. Service is always great! I always seat with this one server with the glasses to the point where he knows I'm coming and he knows exactly what I ask for! Super cool guy and amazing service. So when my boyfriend and I first came in for our date night or technically lunch, there weren't many people there yet. I think they have about I wanna say 10 to 15 tables most of them being booths or possibly all of them being booths. There were maybe three or four parties that were already seated. There were two people waiting to be seated and then we made the second party waiting for a seat. There seem to be one busser who was helping a server, clean a table or two. But you check in with the iPad. But there's no host or hostess to really even greet you so it was kind of strange. For a place with fairly open seating, it took a little while to get seated. I don't remember the exact timeframe, but it was longer than it should be in my opinion? When seated, we got our menu right away and the server was doing his best. It seems like in the entire restaurant. He was the only one taking orders or really doing everything. So he did his best and I think that deserves at least four stars. Some of the things that kinda subtracted stars in my opinion is that there were several tables that were left dirty. It was there before we sat down and remained there, even after we were done, so it was a little bit offputting. There were other people in the back, but no one seemed to help the poor server that was helping us and like four or five more parties that came in after we were seated. That's why so many stars went to that server however subtract a lot of stars basically for management.. We got more food than we needed, but we were super excited for the Katsu. I got pork since we were getting the Korean fried chicken. And I feel as though this restaurant was more for show than for taste. The pork Katsu was huge. There's a picture I put with my hand next to it and it's literally huge. But the consistency of the pork was like a dry chicken. The curry was decent, but it's very little of it. The dumpling in the chicken was OK but not much to write home about. The aesthetics was nice before they tried to put like the advertisements of the beer and such. Found this place while intown for a business trip. It's not far from the disneyland. If you are craving some Korean food I would recommend this place. It's in a little plaza but the food, service and ambiance is chill. The food portions are large (you are getting your money's worth) the quality and the taste of the food is perfect. The banchan (kimchi, cucumber kimchi, daikon macaroni salad) is fresh, delicious and made in house daily. Beef soup with glass noodle. Clean tasting broth and perfect. It can go well with rice as well. Korean pancake is super crispy and large serving. I got it with shrimp but you can get it with bulgogi which I would love to try next time. Jinro shochu lemon flavor. Pairs well with most everything, taste like a lemon drop. Service is great, they paid attention to detail and made sure we were ok. It wasn't that busy the night we went but the staff took care of us and made us feel comfortable. I would recommend and I will visit again. They serve massive portions, they are known for thier massive chicken katsu. It's not far from Disneyland. Both times I have eaten here, we were the only guests dining when we sat down, but the small restaurant filled up quickly. I read some reviews prior to going because I had driven by it a few times and wondered what it was all about. I followed the recommendations and ordered the Tofu soup and Chicken with curry. The tofu soup is to die for and was the main reason we went back. On the second trip, we had two orders of soup because it is so delicious that we couldn't get enough. The chicken curry dish is enormous. I did not know that a chicken could be flattened out to this size. Enormous. The first time I went, there were only two of us and I felt that we had overordered and took home about half of it. The second time, I was prepared with a party of four. The chicken is pounded out and fried Korean style, and it is crisp and tasty. I am not big on curry, but I enjoyed that as well. It is served with scissors so that you can cut pieces off that fit your appetite. The meal also comes with 3-4 side dishes as well which was a really nice bonus. The restaurant only has 10-12 tables, so it feels quaint and intimate. At both times there was only one server, but he did a fantastic job and was patient, knowledgeable and friendly. We tried the pork cutlet curry since it's rated a guest favorite, and while it was good, it felt a bit off. I've been here twice now with a group of my friends as well as my boyfriend! Of course we were enticed by the promotion of the giant katsu, as well with others with around a 30-40 minute wait on a weekend night. The restaurant itself is a lot smaller than expected, which will definitely affect waiting times in the future as this place continues to blow up more on social media. I've tried the Pork Katsu with Curry, the Korean Pancake, the Braised Beef, Spicy Tofu Soup, and Beef Belly at this point. I didn't care too much for the korean pancake or braised beef (although the spicy version might be tastier), and the spicy tofu soup was solid and pretty good if you're craving it. The actual flavor of the beef belly is DELICIOUS, however there is so much fat/oil that it becomes super overwhelming once you're halfway through. The giant katsu that I've eaten both times have been really solid and the curry sauce is tasty! However, I've seen the katsu on other tables and in other pictures that seemed super thin and dry. I give Dawa credit for sticking to consistent sizes and service most of the time, it'll just suck for those who manage to get a bad batch for their first time. Overall, I think this is a great place to go to with a group (maybe less than 5 people though due to the table sizes being small), or if you want bang for your buck and leftovers.
