Chicken tender by itself was average. I think if i had it with a sauce that is 1 dollar more I would have enjoyed more. The tender was dry; not juicy at all. If you look at the picture, honestly it doesn't look appetizing. I requested the medium spice level and it had a good kick to it.
Chicken sandwich was exquisite! Flavor off the charts. Staff was very helpful with spice levels
I've had Daybird on my wish list ever since I saw Jenn Harris feature on a YouTube episode of LA Times Food's "What We're Into" a few years back. Last month I finally got the chance when I visited L.A. with my family. We arrived a few minutes before they opened. This was at their original location which recently closed because they are set to open their new location. We were second in line. As noon approached the line started to grow. The wait and anticipation paid off. Daybird lived up to the hype. The chicken sandwich was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The slaw was fresh and refreshing. I ordered it medium heat but it wasn't very spicy. My wife ordered the fish sandwich. I don't think I'll ever have a fish sandwich that good. It was thick and juicy. I'm still thinking about it... about both, really. Service was also great. I wish them well at their new location. I know the next time I'm back in L.A. I will definitely be stopping by.
We had to come here and try their famous fish sandwich. While it was absolutely delicious, I do feel the fish itself was maybe a tad undercooked or not the best quality. The breading, cheese, tartar sauce, and bun were perfect butthe fish itselt Could've been better. The chicken tenders were a tad dry, the fries were tasty. Service was wonderful, the food was made to order quickly, and the portions are generous. In all a very good meal, but not the best fish sandwich or fried chicken I have had in Los Angeles.
I suppose I'll be hunting for other fish sandwiches in LA. Second time here, 0 for 2 on fish. Today we stopped by around 12:30 (they open at noon)... aaaand they're closed? Open on Google, open on Yelp, no notice on any of these platforms or Instagram unless all they did was post a now-expired story which isn't very helpful. There's some vague post saying something to the effect of: great news, they aren't closing and are opening a new location! Is this instead of the Silver Lake one? In addition to? It takes literally less than a minute for the business owner to change Google business hours to CLOSED--I do this for my workplace--which is significantly less than what potential customers spend driving here. Another guy and his family might've come up from Riverside to a closed door. Hopefully they actually live here and weren't in LA just for this!
Let me start off with how this rating does not reflect the fish sando!! The chicken sandwich coming from a chicken sandwich place, it was not great. Breaded very heavily where my first bite was crunching of the batter. Overall the sandwich was ok... It wasn't that special. It wasn't very juicy either. Now, let me talk about the fish sando.. It was the best fish sando i've ever had in my LIFE. yes, in my life. It was soooo juicy and the tartar sauce really complimented the sandwich. I will come back for the fish sando when i'm back in LA. It was so good!!!
Daybird is one of my favorite spots to get a fried chicken sandwich because of the spices they use in the batter. The chicken breast is not only perfectly crunchy and seasoned but it is way bigger than the bun. I joke saying that the bun is a handle for the chicken breast. The spices go great with the sweet Asian slaw. The fries are also very good- perfect crisp. The spot is small. There is only a counter on the wall to eat. Parking is available in the lot as well as their underground parking structure. Service is great. The guys behind the counter were very chill and friendly.
I wasn't in the mood for fried chicken or fish sandwiches, but I'm glad my husband persisted (this one time only lol). I loved it. The chicken Sando was delicious. But the fish sandwich was amazing. My favorite. The fish was excellent but the sauce was the best. It really brought everything together. I want more.
I have been seeing Daybird on Tiktok for years and finally got the chance to try it. Ordered it on UberEATS and it came super quick. Went with the Hot Chicken Sandwich, Fish Sandwich, and some fries. The Hot Chicken Sandwich was delicious. It had an asian twist with what tasted like Sichuan peppers which makes it standout from other places that sell hot chicken. The Fish sandwich was probably the best i've ever had. It's basically a gourmet version of a Filet O Fish in the best way possible. Definitely recommend Daybird!
Small restaurant, definitely more set up to grab and go. Workers were friendly and efficient. Sandos took about 10 minutes from ordering to completion. The chicken was crispy and delicious. The heat level for Hot was pleasantly belly warming. The slaw was crisp and a wonderful accompaniment for the hot chicken.
The sandwiches were fat af. The chicken sandwich was around $16 and fish $20. They were super fresh and crispy. Overall worth trying once around the area.
Came to Daybird for lunch on Saturday to try their fish sandwich after seeing it all over TikTok for forever now. As a fan of the filet o fish, I was excited to try an elevated fish sandwich of similar design. The restaurant is a hot chicken place, but the fish sandwich remains on the menu even though it doesn't appear on the website or physical wall menu. The parking situation was a breeze, with loads of underground parking under the building. This was already a huge relief considering the typical experience when dining in LA. The restaurant was close to empty. I opted for the sandwich without caviar ($20), the addition of which would have added $60 to the price. I also got an order of fries. The sandwich was made right away and fried fresh. The fish stood out as incredibly large for a sandwich, and had a thick and very crispy batter. I wasn't aware that their fish can come seasoned like how they do their chicken, and the cashier recommended me mild which is what I did. The flavor of the mild seasoning was light but added a satisfying heat. The crunch was very good on the fish, and the tartar sauce was very flavorful and clearly high quality and made in-house. I will say that considering the size of the fish, the cheese gets somewhat lost flavor wise. The only other complaint I had was that the fish had a slightly fishy aroma even while frying, and the taste came through in the sandwich as well. It wasn't enough to ruin the taste or the texture much, but I'm sure the fish I had that day wasn't the most fresh. I could actually see how the caviar might fit into the sandwich flavor-wise, but for $60 I think it's definitely nowhere near necessary. If you like fish sandwiches, I'd say give it a shot. I thought it was worth the price/visit.
This place is tiny and easy to miss, as there is only a chicken symbol on the billboard. It feels more like a fast-food joint because there are fewer than four seats, and most customers order to-go. In my opinion, they have the best Sichuan chicken sandwich; however, it is on the pricier side at $16 for the sandwich alone, without fries. I also tried the hot cod sandwich for $20, and the fish was fresh and packed with flavor, though I still prefer the chicken sandwich. The chicken is moist and juicy and the szechuan seasoning is flavorful. I wish they were open longer, as their hours are limited to 11 a.m.-4 p.m., and they are also closed on Tuesdays. If they extended their hours and lowered the price slightly, I would probably get this sandwich weekly. The seasoning in the chicken batter is addictive--I still crave it from time to time.
I've been dying to try this spot after hearing all the buzz, went back and forth from a 3 - 4, but ultimately ended at a 3. Below is what we tried: Chicken Tenders ($13.50) - 3 Stars. This was way too salty, and the dipping sauces were mid level at best. Hot Chicken Sando ($14.50) - 3 1/2 Stars. The chicken quality itself is quite good, but the sandwich was rather dry. This is pretty much a giant piece of fried chicken stuffed between two room temperature buns with a little slaw added to it. Fries ($7) - 4 Stars. Best item from this place. Light, crisp, and very tasty. Looks like I'll be checking this spot off the list and continue the hunt to find the best fried chicken sandwich in LA! read more

This place needs to be called Dayfish!!! The fish sandwich was PHENOMENAL one of my favorite bites in la so far! The fish was so flaky, juicy, and well seasoned. If you enjoy fish sandwiches I would definitely urge you to get this one and even over their chicken sandwich! The yuzu and tartar sauce on the fish sandwich was sooo delicious. The chicken sandwich was good (the flavor had a lot of asian influences) it was nice to try, but I don't think I would order it again. But I'll for sure come back for the fish sandwich! read more
Came here from TikTok recommendations, was a little wait outside in the plaza so we knew it was the place. The fish sandwich is great, that's the review! Didn't need to get the $60 caviar tartar sauce. This was HOT and FRESH, 100% worth it. The fries are basic and kinda bland, I'd skip those. read more
Small place and minimal parking! You can park underneath in the garage. No seating inside only standing table. Ordered both mild flavors and chicken was big, crispy, and juicy with a szechuan cabbage slaw and fish sandwich is average. read more
My husband and I wanted to try this place so we drove 21/2 hours (San Diego to LA) to check it out. The place was small and it has a counter that you could use if you want to eat there. But if you don't mind standing while you're eating, then, you'd be okay. There weren't a lot of customers when we went, it wasn't that bad. The chicken and the fish sandwich tasted great! We split each one so we could try both. If you like some heat/spice on your sauce, you have that option, too. For me, I'll be okay without it. The sauce on both blends well with the chicken and the fish. Out of the two that I've tried, I would go back for the fish sandwich. It's fresh, and amazingly tasty and not fishy at all. Overall, it was a positive experience for us. We enjoyed the experience and the food. It's a must try if you happen to be in LA! read more
Color me surprised! I wasn't expecting Daybird to be so...underwhelming :( I really wanted to like this place. It's been on my radar for such a long time and for good reason. I applaud anyone who is actively trying to innovate in the Fried Chicken Sandwich Space®. However, I wasn't exactly wowed by my first bite and although you'd expect Taiwanese fried chicken to be a blast of five spice and aromatics, I didn't get that. One thing I did love were the portions. They don't skimp on the chicken and the toppings either which is a little overpowering. We also got the yuzu lemonade which was pretty watered down and only had a hint of yuzu. The Daybird sauce is extra but imo not worth getting it wasn't anything special. Overall I don't regret trying it out but not sure if I'd be back. read more

A great spicy chicken sandwich especially if you like Szechuan flavoring. The store is nothing special given it's in a unremarkable strip mall but that doesn't matter because the service and food was great. I'll go back and next time I will upgrade from medium spicy to hot! Particular to my liking, it was chicken thigh/leg which is a home run because I find chicken breast tough and boring and avoid it. Most other fried chicken sandwich places use breast meat so Daybird really stands out by using the leg. read more

I absolutely love Daybird. I would say it's top 5 chicken sandwiches in LA. Easily. The piece of chicken in the sandwich is huge. You can break off a piece of it and save it for later as a snack. The bread, breading, and veggies all work together so well. I've always felt full and satisfied after a Daybird sandwich. read more
Wow, this has got to be one of the most disappointing places I've eaten recently. I've had Daybird bookmarked for a while but recently saw an episode of Triple D with Guy Fieri visiting so that pushed us to go. We stopped by today around 1:00pm and at first were the only customers but then a small line formed. About 10 minutes after ordering, our food was delivered. The place is super small with only a standing bar on the opposite side of the cashier, and an "open" kitchen to see your food prepared. The "cook", however, was more interested in his futbol game than focusing on our food (as pictured with his phone in the red circle, sitting on the food prep counter). And we could tell because either the attention and detail to the food has gone down already, or his lack of focus is causing bad food to go out. The cashier was nice enough to bring over our tray of food and the looks are definitely great. We ordered the chicken sando, medium heat, the fish sando, and fries. The price, however, is ridiculous. Nearly $40 for this. Since this is revolving around "hot chicken" and similar items, I can compare to Howlin Ray's which is cheaper, has better service, and tastes 1000x better. We started with the fish. Overall, it had a really good crunch on the batter and the fish itself was soft and flaky. The tartar sauce was good too. But the cheese was pointless because the one regular slice of American can't even be tasted, felt, or noticed while eating. It's a waste of a topping. And the spice used for the fish totally throws off the flavor in a bad way. The bun was also ice cold. Like, just taken out of the fridge near the ice maker, cold. Overall, we just weren't that impressed with the fish although it was leagues better than the chicken which is the big issue here - Again, the bun on the chicken sando was ice cold. The chicken looks big with the setup of it sticking half way out of the bun, but it's really not that big of a piece. They use thigh meat so it's not as plump or juicy as breast. It's almost like a thick schnitzel. Again, the crunch was a positive but the only redeeming factor for the chicken. The batter started falling off as we ate the sandwich. The chicken itself was actually dry and tough, where we could barely pull apart a piece with our teeth. It also had a weird taste and almost seemed like the chicken itself was not fresh at all. I couldn't help notice that the chicken was pre-fried and then fried again when you order. We did see in the Triple D episode that the chicken is twice fried, but it doesn't really work well when the chicken is sitting under the counter for who knows how long, only to then await the second fry. The spice and seasoning was also not good at all. Medium spice usually has a decent kick and this barely had any. All we really tasted were mild hints of spice and salt. So. Much. Salt. We were completely parched and begging for water not 10 minutes after finishing our lunch. The amount of salt is insane. And the coleslaw was a big mess. Big chunks of raw jalapenos and peppers, with a wilted coleslaw and overly vinegar juice. The fries were meh. Just regular fries. No seasoning, fair crispness, and nothing to remember. My group all agreed it was a waste of time, money, and our appetites to try. But, we would never know unless we tried so there's some light at the end of the tunnel. read more

Small hidden gem. Does not accommodate large parties. It's more of a grab and go with minimal standing area. The aesthetics are cool with a single gender neutral restroom in the back. Came here to try the viral hot cod with caviar and it's ok to try once because of how expensive it is. Next time I would try the chicken sando. The service is friendly. read more

In full honesty, I came here because I heard about the $80 fish sandwich. My natural curiosity, and also being a fish filet fan, got the best of me to check this spot out. As this is a hot chicken place, I felt that I just had to at least try their main food. I got myself medium spice level chicken sandwiche because I wanted to gauge the spicy level. I should have gone spicer, but it was still a tasty chicken sandwich none the less. Good spice and flavor. Also wanted to give notice to their daybird sauce, which was an absolute bang'n sauce! Next, I had the famous $80 hot cod sandwich with caviar. Honestly, it was the best fish sandwich I've ever had. The fish was crispy and juicy, and the housemade tartar sauce was amazing due to the yuzu in it. Would I order it again? Yes, but I can do without the caviar and just get it as is. Save $60 and just have a delicious fish sandwich for $20. Still, it's always fun to say you had a fancy filet sandwich. I'll come by here again. read more
My FAVORITE fried chicken sandwich ever. I ordered the medium spicy chicken sando, and it was perfect for my taste. The chicken sandwich comes with a huge piece of chicken, fried to perfection with sichuan flavoring (mala spice). The extreme-level spice burns too much for me, and when I split extreme-level tenders with my friends, all of us were in tears. I'd say that the fries were just OK, but if you're craving fries with your sandwich, then you might as well get them. I'd also advise against getting the tenders, as the chicken sando is what the restaurant is known for, and the chicken sando is MUCH more tender and juicy and then tenders. The store gives off a small, cozy atmosphere. There isn't much seating, but there's a bar counter top where you could dine. Among the many times I've been here, I've only doned in once -- every other time, it was during Covid when indoor dining was shut down, or I had to bring some sandos back for my friends in the AirBnB. Every time I come to LA, I always make sure to stop by Daybird. It's one of my absolute favorite places, and I always recommend this place to all of my friends. read more

First things first, I am not going to lie I was pretty annoyed finding this business. I did arrive at the right place on my first attempt but because the entire building is under construction, I couldnt even tell there were businesses there still open. Hardly any signs were there hinting people. Plus when I first got there, they werent open so it was even harder for me. Sigh. Anyway, after all that fuss, I managed to locate the business, thanks to people front of the premise waiting for their order. If it wasnt for them, I highly likely have left annoyed. I ordered two Hot Sando; one in medium and other in hot. I also got each of their sauces to try it with the sando. Their lemonade of the day of my visit was WATERMELON and I love watermelon so I also got two of them; one for my friend and myself. It didnt take that long for me to get my order so that was nice. I was also very satisfied how they prepared my order. They left the box and the bag open so that chicken stays crispy and not soggy from possible trapped moisture. Hot sando was pretty good. I ended up eating the medium and it was a nice kick. Though I can handle more spiciness than this, I think some people may even find medium pretty hot and spicy. Hot was perfect spicy for me but if I had eaten that, it probably would have upset my stomach even more. I really enjoyed the crispiness and juiciness of the chicken and moreover, it was packed with flavor! Day Bird definitely distinguishes itself differently in a unique approach of their own as what they call Szechuan hot chicken sandwich. Oh, and the slaw was so yummy. Its tangy and sweet flavors went really well with the spicy and savory fried chicken. Only thing that bothered me a bit was the soggy bun at the end because of the slaw but I guess that is expected. Three sauces that I got were complementary with chicken. My least favorite was Habanero Ranch. I didnt quite understand what it was supposed to taste like. Day Bird sauce was pretty good. Probably my favorite among the three. Hot honey was also great but it wasnt hot at all, for me at least. To add, the food overall is on the sweeter side. Everything I had was sweet and sweetness stood out the most out of all possible flavors but again, it wasnt to the point where it bothered me. Price is not too kind but I think I dont mind spending $16 for a Day Bird Hot Sando occasionally. Watermelon lemonade was also unique and I enjoyed it. It was little too sweet to my taste when I first took a sip (I got it with no ice) but later I ended up putting ice and as the ice melted, it made the drink less sweet and was more enjoyable. Parking lot was almost full during lunch time and IS really small so be careful when youre backing up. If you are NOT an experienced driver, please find street parking and do NOT park in the lot. With the construction, you will face difficulty. Now that I clearly know where the shop is located, I may come back again for a hot sando very soon. If you are expecting to pay a visit, just look for the building under construction then you are at the right place. read more

The fosh sando was huge. Crispy fish filet on 2 buns, cheese, and their yuzu(?) tartar sauce. That tartar sauce is real good n refreshing. Id say it makes the fish sando that much better The fries were ok but they are just your reg fries. The place is kinda small with limited seating so just be ready to find a spot to enjoy your sando read more

Came here for their Szechuan hot chicken Sando and it did not disappoint. Extremely flavorful with the juiciest fried chicken. I was extremely impressed with the flavor and heat. I ended up getting the medium and I felt like the heat was appropriate for the sandwich. I noticed they added chilis to the slaw for extra heat and I loved it. We also got fries and the daybird sauce and those were a miss for me. The fries weren't very crispy and got soggy quickly but they were crinkle cut fries and I have a huge soft spot for that. The daybird sauce tasted like an umami maggi sauce aioli, growing up maggi sauce is a staple in Asian households so it was interesting to see it in an aioli form. But I personally wasn't a huge fan of it, the sandwich was great on its own as is. read more

Shoutout to y'all for hyping this place up because man this sandwich was amazing and you did not lie! I randomly popped in for lunch but keep in mind parking is limited. I ordered the Szechuan Hot Chicken Sando, Fries and Hong Kong Milk Tea. I was not prepared to spend close to $30 for this food butttt it was sooo worth it! The chicken sandwich was insanely big that it compensates for the high price tag. The fries were average so you can skip but I felt it completed the meal. Must visit if you're in the area! read more
Daybird is hands down one of the best spots for a crispy chicken sandwich in LA! The chicken is insanely crunchy on the outside, super juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. I got the medium spice level, and it had the perfect kick without being overwhelming. The chili oil they use adds such a nice depth of flavor. The sandwich itself is pretty simple--just chicken, slaw, and a bun--but honestly, that's all it needs. The quality speaks for itself. Also, their fries are solid, and if you like spice, definitely grab a side of their aioli. It does get busy, so be prepared for a bit of a wait, but it's totally worth it. Amazing Szechuan Hot Chix sandwich. So flavorful, crisp chicken but moist inside. On a Martin's pillowy soft potato bun. I got the 'hot'...there's a slow and satisfying build-up of heat with each bite. The order taker was very nice. And lots of attention to detail in the packaging. This was an easy storefront to miss in the stripmall. Don't look for the words 'Daybird' on the signage. Instead look for the chicken head logo on the storefront sign. read more

Finally got to try Daybird. I've seen chef Mei Lin at Top Chef and have tried her previous restaurant Nightshade. When she opened up this shop, I couldn't wait to try it. The day finally arrived. Tried their Szechuan Hot Chicken Sando. Compared to Howlin, its just as hefty but for some reason it feels much light and not too heavy. I could probably eat two of them. Season is on point and I really enjoyed their slaw. We also got an order of Tenders hot, which could use a tad more spicy. Overall, good sando. read more
My friend took me here to try this amazing fish sandwich. The upgrade is a serious one to caviar mixed into the sauce. I just had to try the fish sandwich. One mistake I made is that I had no idea there was a choice- spicy or not spicy. No one asked. Spicy entails dipping the whole piece in chilli oil before frying. It was a surprised because I don't usually do spicy and thankfully it wasn't over the top. The tartar sauce is delicious but it seemed my sandwich did not get the same amount as others being made at the same time. When I asked about the inconsistency in preparation, I was told that if I wanted more, extra tartar sauce was $3. The ambiance is walk in, order and take out. So, we sat in the car and ate this luscious piece of fish sandwich. The fish was thick and the batter absolutely perfect. The entire pieces was well cooked, but moist and delicious. My only issue was that the after taste was chicken flavor which means they cook the fish and chicken in the same fry bin other than that. This is a solid delicious sandwich. What kind of chicken are they using here at Daybird that makes it so huge? I had to check out this place when I saw it on social media and since it was only a five minute drive from where I am. Located on Vermont inside of a plaza that is still undergoing construction during the time that I went. Parking is a bit tight but there are a lot of spaces available in the plaza. Luckily I had no wait time and ordered a medium spicy chicken sando with fries. ($19.76 in total) Man this chicken sando was huge. Had to take 4-5 bites before I even got to the actual part of the sandwich. The chicken was soooo juicy and not dry and I didn't feel like a pile of grease after finishing it. The chicken sando and the slaw that they use, which includes peppers, cabbage, and cilantro, complimented the sandwich so well with each bite that I took. The fries were also so crispy and not mushy. I kinda wish they gave a side of sauce with the sando.. you have to pay extra for that here. ($1) Overall this place is definitely worth visiting if you're in the area and is a place that I will frequently visit. Does it beat out other chicken sando places in ktown? Well i'll leave that to you but it definitely beat the #1 spot that I had always loved since I moved to ktown. read more

Dude, you all need to expand the menu and get a bigger sit down space. This Szechuan fried chicken needs to grace the tastebuds of Los Angeles. My aunt flew in from Hawaii on a redeye and we hit the ground running on a fried chicken crawl. This was by far the winner of the day. But we seriously wished you had a bigger menu! You have degree of spice choices and sauce choices. We got medium because I'm a wuss. The Daybird sauce is a definite big win. We also tried the hot honey because o usually like honey, this was too thin and watered down for me. It's a weirdly located in a strip mall at the corner of Virgil and Silver Lake Blvd. The sign is nondescript and tough to discern. Luckily the parking/security guy loves his job and is super helpful and friendly. There's no seating. We opted to sit on the wall with the planter by the waxing shop. It was challenging and pretty icky BUT we powered through. FYI, there is NO bathroom, the staff told us we'd have to go across the street to the sketchy gas station. No friggin way. We decided to buy a drink from the Burmese restaurant and ask to use the facilities there. read more
Daybird serves up chicken sandwiches with a kick, Szechuan seasoning. You can get Nashville hot chicken almost anywhere in LA now so visit this place for a spin-off from the usual. You may have heard of this place from Chef Mei Lin from Netflix's Iron Chef series. This location is a small store that currently has a walk-up window for ordering and pick up. There is no in-store seating or outdoor seating at the time of this review, so bring some picnic chairs or be prepared to sit in your car. Parking: The location is in a small business center and there is free public parking on the surface level and underground parking as well. Szechuan Hot Chicken Sando - I can't quite tell if this is a chicken sandwich or really a piece of chicken with some bread accompanying it because the chicken to bread ratio is wild! It was very tasty and crispy. The spice was on point. Fries - These were good and were also crispy. A good accompaniment for the sando. Sauces - The sauces are $1 each and I would recommend the hot honey and house sauce. The sando flavor was fine without sauce, but if you like it extra saucy, be my guest. Online Ordering - This location has online ordering via DoorDash and you can pick it up. Chicken Thighs. Sounds like a frigid cheerleader. But, I'm a thigh guy and there are few things that equal a perfectly heated set of them. Recently, I had a Death Row last meal wish so a braked and braked and braked for this Fried Chicken Sando crawling up the 101. Like who wants to figure out where to park the Whip and then queue up for Howlin' Ray's? Not me. So, it was Daybird that got me out of my day bed and on the clogged artery we call a Freeway to see why the Chicken crossed the road. The owner, Mei Lin, owned Nightshade, Bon Apetit's best treat of 2019. Then there was a Covid closure. It was fabulous on every level. A moment of silence in reverence. Out of the ashes rose Daybird. A window through which a server will push a heroic sandwich out with both hands into yours. Have it your way. It ranges from Guppy Heart to Heart Transplant Hot. It's like buying a Ferrari, the options are limited. But if a Ferrari was a sandwich this might be it. The Sando is impressive for sure and is as exciting to look at as it is to eat. The first bite will tell you that the $33 you forked over for lunch was well spent for this greaseless riff on the ubiquitous Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich. So, let's take a few minutes to dissect this experience. Start with the star of the show. A Jidori Chicken Thigh. This is fictional breed bred in LA as a free ranging flapper by a collection of small family owned operations. The Chickens don't eat anything that's been fried and have a better diet than we do. The Daybird beast is probably brined before taking a turn in a fryer filled with Rice Bran Oil. The finished product runs with juice dripping from the thick thigh onto whatever you're wearing. (A rubber lab smock might be appropriate). And this Chicken actually tastes like Chicken. Tame or viscous it is simply delicious. Most Chicken around town reminds you of nibbling a Gym sock. (no need to know how I know what that tastes like). This bad bird is positively wonderful. The batter is sturdy and crunchy. I couldn't decide if I wanted a bucket of the Chicken or just the coating. How bout both? The Cheat: The Chicken Thigh is balanced so that half of it is cantilevered out over the Bun by 5 inches or more. Objects may appear larger than they are. Clamp your hands around the Bun to keep the contents from squirting out all over the parking lot. It's an acquired skill. You'll hoover the exposed thigh first and appreciate Mei Lin's creation. You'll much down the hangin' half until you're down to Bun on Bun. Pretty clever, Chef. The Bun itself is a Brioche-y affair but it comes dry, top and bottom, until the lovely oozing juices turn it into a soggy boggy disintegrating squishy oishi mess. No matter, as once you get to this stage you're almost done. A light swish of Mayo would eliminate the squishy factor as it prevents the juices from invading the Brioche Bun crumb. Maybe, take it upon yourself to spread some Daybird Sauce (Mayo with a little Sriracha) on the blank pallet of the Buns. The Sandwich also has a short stack of Szechuan Slaw. This shred of Cabbage let's the sliced Jalapeno do the heavy lifting. For me Slaw begs to be creamy while the shred remains crunchy. Pretty much the Cabbage and Chili slivers are kinda wuliao de. I ordered a small cup of the Slaw neat and was underwhelmed. There is one alternative to the magnificent sandwich. Breaded Tenders. This is one time when something tender should be battered. Alas, The Tenders were dry. Tasty...but dry. There was a cup of Fries that will bring tears to your eyes while the Thighs go to your thighs. These Fries were perfect. Period. They remained crisp to the last little crunchy nub lurking at the bottom of the paper sleeve. Absolutely, get a Guava Strawberry Slush. Get two. It not only quenches your thirst but stands in for dessert. Daybird was better than I'd heard. Their Chicken fry is definitely worth a try. read more

I'm always down for some fried chicken, especially good fried chicken. And the fried chicken at Daybird is pretty good. The taste of the chicken sandwiches really depend on the heat level that you get. At no heat, I was needing something, whether it be salt, pepper, or more heat. So I tried mild, and it was just right. While the slaw does a decent job of cooling things down, I wish there was some kind of sauce they'd put on it. The tenders are good too, however they may fuck your shit up. For reference, think about the damage done by Dutch crunch bread (IFYKYK). The breading is seemingly just panko, and when I had it it was packed tightly around the chicken. This made a little difficult to eat for me because of how sharp it became. Doneness was spot on, dipping it in the Daybird sauce was tasty, but I don't think I'd order them again. read more

I'm always down for Sichuan food, and I'm always down for a good hot chicken sandwich, so Daybird was game over for me! It's at a window/takeout-only operation for now, located in a little plaza (parking garage underneath, thank goodness). My friend and I each got a sando (I got medium, which the employee compared to jalapeño level of spice) and a drink- I had the strawberry guava slush (super refreshing), and he had the lemonade of the day (definitely lots of fresh lemon in there, a little on the sour side). The sando looks intimidating as the fried chicken itself looms over the rest of it (which I later realized is not because the chicken piece is so huge, but because it's arranged that way for effect - just make sure to tuck it back in for a proper chicken:bun ratio)! The seasonings are delicious and authentic to Sichuan flavor, and the chicken was super crispy and juicy. Paired with the icy slush, it was the perfect combo for a warm sunny day. read more

Daybird's Szechuan Hot Chicken Sando is well worth the hype! Located in a small shopping plaza with ample parking on the street level and in the garage, Daybird offers a delicious Asian take on the fried chicken sandwich. Their sando comes with a huge piece of crispy chicken (almost double the size of the sando), Asian vinegar-based slaw, and a soft toasted bun. I recommend the hot if you want a tolerable kick to our sandwich. I also love eating the sandwich with a side of their hot honey and crispy fries. I'm not a fan of their Daybird sauce because it's too vinegary for me. I definitely would make a stop here again to grab a sando! read more

What type of fish is used in the fried fish sandwich?
If I'm not mistaken, I believe it's cod. But it's a big special cut piece. I'm not exaggerating when I said it was 3-4 inches thick. Maybe bigger.
Are they all Spicy?
No. You can order with no spice (just normal fried chicken), mild, medium, hot or super hot.
Does Daybird fry their chicken in peanut oil? Asking for allergy reasons
Their website clearly states that all of their chicken is fried in rice bran oil.
