Chicken tender by itself was average. I think if i had it with a sauce that is 1 dollar more I would have enjoyed more. The tender was dry; not juicy at all. If you look at the picture, honestly it doesn't look appetizing. I requested the medium spice level and it had a good kick to it.
Chicken sandwich was exquisite! Flavor off the charts. Staff was very helpful with spice levels
I've had Daybird on my wish list ever since I saw Jenn Harris feature on a YouTube episode of LA Times Food's "What We're Into" a few years back. Last month I finally got the chance when I visited L.A. with my family. We arrived a few minutes before they opened. This was at their original location which recently closed because they are set to open their new location. We were second in line. As noon approached the line started to grow. The wait and anticipation paid off. Daybird lived up to the hype. The chicken sandwich was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The slaw was fresh and refreshing. I ordered it medium heat but it wasn't very spicy. My wife ordered the fish sandwich. I don't think I'll ever have a fish sandwich that good. It was thick and juicy. I'm still thinking about it... about both, really. Service was also great. I wish them well at their new location. I know the next time I'm back in L.A. I will definitely be stopping by.
We had to come here and try their famous fish sandwich. While it was absolutely delicious, I do feel the fish itself was maybe a tad undercooked or not the best quality. The breading, cheese, tartar sauce, and bun were perfect butthe fish itselt Could've been better. The chicken tenders were a tad dry, the fries were tasty. Service was wonderful, the food was made to order quickly, and the portions are generous. In all a very good meal, but not the best fish sandwich or fried chicken I have had in Los Angeles.
I suppose I'll be hunting for other fish sandwiches in LA. Second time here, 0 for 2 on fish. Today we stopped by around 12:30 (they open at noon)... aaaand they're closed? Open on Google, open on Yelp, no notice on any of these platforms or Instagram unless all they did was post a now-expired story which isn't very helpful. There's some vague post saying something to the effect of: great news, they aren't closing and are opening a new location! Is this instead of the Silver Lake one? In addition to? It takes literally less than a minute for the business owner to change Google business hours to CLOSED--I do this for my workplace--which is significantly less than what potential customers spend driving here. Another guy and his family might've come up from Riverside to a closed door. Hopefully they actually live here and weren't in LA just for this!
Let me start off with how this rating does not reflect the fish sando!! The chicken sandwich coming from a chicken sandwich place, it was not great. Breaded very heavily where my first bite was crunching of the batter. Overall the sandwich was ok... It wasn't that special. It wasn't very juicy either. Now, let me talk about the fish sando.. It was the best fish sando i've ever had in my LIFE. yes, in my life. It was soooo juicy and the tartar sauce really complimented the sandwich. I will come back for the fish sando when i'm back in LA. It was so good!!!
Daybird is one of my favorite spots to get a fried chicken sandwich because of the spices they use in the batter. The chicken breast is not only perfectly crunchy and seasoned but it is way bigger than the bun. I joke saying that the bun is a handle for the chicken breast. The spices go great with the sweet Asian slaw. The fries are also very good- perfect crisp. The spot is small. There is only a counter on the wall to eat. Parking is available in the lot as well as their underground parking structure. Service is great. The guys behind the counter were very chill and friendly.
I wasn't in the mood for fried chicken or fish sandwiches, but I'm glad my husband persisted (this one time only lol). I loved it. The chicken Sando was delicious. But the fish sandwich was amazing. My favorite. The fish was excellent but the sauce was the best. It really brought everything together. I want more.
I have been seeing Daybird on Tiktok for years and finally got the chance to try it. Ordered it on UberEATS and it came super quick. Went with the Hot Chicken Sandwich, Fish Sandwich, and some fries. The Hot Chicken Sandwich was delicious. It had an asian twist with what tasted like Sichuan peppers which makes it standout from other places that sell hot chicken. The Fish sandwich was probably the best i've ever had. It's basically a gourmet version of a Filet O Fish in the best way possible. Definitely recommend Daybird!
Small restaurant, definitely more set up to grab and go. Workers were friendly and efficient. Sandos took about 10 minutes from ordering to completion. The chicken was crispy and delicious. The heat level for Hot was pleasantly belly warming. The slaw was crisp and a wonderful accompaniment for the hot chicken.
The sandwiches were fat af. The chicken sandwich was around $16 and fish $20. They were super fresh and crispy. Overall worth trying once around the area.
Came to Daybird for lunch on Saturday to try their fish sandwich after seeing it all over TikTok for forever now. As a fan of the filet o fish, I was excited to try an elevated fish sandwich of similar design. The restaurant is a hot chicken place, but the fish sandwich remains on the menu even though it doesn't appear on the website or physical wall menu. The parking situation was a breeze, with loads of underground parking under the building. This was already a huge relief considering the typical experience when dining in LA. The restaurant was close to empty. I opted for the sandwich without caviar ($20), the addition of which would have added $60 to the price. I also got an order of fries. The sandwich was made right away and fried fresh. The fish stood out as incredibly large for a sandwich, and had a thick and very crispy batter. I wasn't aware that their fish can come seasoned like how they do their chicken, and the cashier recommended me mild which is what I did. The flavor of the mild seasoning was light but added a satisfying heat. The crunch was very good on the fish, and the tartar sauce was very flavorful and clearly high quality and made in-house. I will say that considering the size of the fish, the cheese gets somewhat lost flavor wise. The only other complaint I had was that the fish had a slightly fishy aroma even while frying, and the taste came through in the sandwich as well. It wasn't enough to ruin the taste or the texture much, but I'm sure the fish I had that day wasn't the most fresh. I could actually see how the caviar might fit into the sandwich flavor-wise, but for $60 I think it's definitely nowhere near necessary. If you like fish sandwiches, I'd say give it a shot. I thought it was worth the price/visit.
This place is tiny and easy to miss, as there is only a chicken symbol on the billboard. It feels more like a fast-food joint because there are fewer than four seats, and most customers order to-go. In my opinion, they have the best Sichuan chicken sandwich; however, it is on the pricier side at $16 for the sandwich alone, without fries. I also tried the hot cod sandwich for $20, and the fish was fresh and packed with flavor, though I still prefer the chicken sandwich. The chicken is moist and juicy and the szechuan seasoning is flavorful. I wish they were open longer, as their hours are limited to 11 a.m.-4 p.m., and they are also closed on Tuesdays. If they extended their hours and lowered the price slightly, I would probably get this sandwich weekly. The seasoning in the chicken batter is addictive--I still crave it from time to time.
Today I commuted 40 minutes to try this place out. I ordered Daybird for pickup through DoorDash, so I can't comment on service, but the food was ready impressively fast--about 15 minutes after placing my order. Tried the cod sandwich, which felt like an upscale Filet-O-Fish. The fish was crispy, the bun was soft, and the herbaceous tartar sauce added a nice touch. It was tasty, but at $20, a bit steep for a sandwich. I went with the non-spicy option, though the spicy version sounds interesting. Also had the Sichuan-style chicken sandwich, which was dusted with a savory, warm spiced dry seasoning. The slaw was pleasantly acidic, with pickled chilies and onions adding a nice kick. The Jidori chicken itself was huge. For condiments, I tried the habanero ranch, Daybird sauce, and the tartar sauce. All were solid, but the tartar sauce paired especially well with the cod. I would also recommend the Day bird sauce over the habenaro ranch. The Daybird Sauce is a creamy and umami condiment that pairs well with the chicken sandwich. The milk tea cookies? Incredible. Soft, perfectly textured, and full of milk tea flavor. I highly recommend trying this too! Overall, 4/5 stars. Great flavors and high-quality ingredients, though some items feel a bit pricey. Hello Yelpers!! Well I haven't posted anything in a while, but I wanted to say a little something about this place. I trekked my way out to Los Angele after a friend recommended this place, the traffic, the the traffic!!!! I put on my navigator (Waze) and took the trip. It took me a couple of spins around the block to finally find this place despite may navigation telling me I had arrived. If you have never been, Daybird is located in a small and I mean small shopping center in the middle of chaos. There is no sign out spelling out Daybird. Instead you have a neon outline of a chicken head outside the location. It's nestled in next to a very busy barbershop and a spa. I made it and walked in. As soon as you walk in all you see is kitchen. 90 % of the location is kitchen and prep area and 10% is for waiting and stand (counter style) eating. Which there is nothing wrong with that. The smells being produced by this place will have you salivating from the moment you walk in. The menu is very simple and minimal which says a lot about the place. They don't have a multitude of things on the menu and what they do have they make very well. I ordered their chicken sandwich, fish sandwich and fries. The chicken sandwich was spilling out of the bun. I mean the chicken was enough for two buns. Accompanied by a delicious Daybird sauce, slaw and dusting of savory spices. I was in food heaven. I was so out of it I almost forgot about the fish sandwich. The fish sandwich was it's own masterpiece. I can only describe it as a brick of goodness. A 3-4 inch thick piece of golden fried cod seasoned with spices and seasonings. I was done. The fries were seasoned and fried to perfection. I definitely recommend this place. Take that drive. This just through me for a loop. I need to get out of my comfort zone and drive out of my area. So many places I neglect because I don't want to deal with traffic or lack of parking. Daybird is in an unassuming little plaza that has 30 minute parking spots on the outdoor level and an underground parking as well so keep an eye out on where you park. Upon entrance, the shop has a spicy smell which led me to order the chicken sando at the mild spice level which I was so glad that I did because even the mild spice had enough heat and I do well with spicy food. Ordered some sauce to put with the sandwiches but ended up not needing any. Just make sure to order fries to pair with the sauce since the sandwiches are best without the extra sauces. The sandwiches are seasoned so well, very flavorful! I know I'll be coming here for often in the future when I crave chicken/fish sandwich. The sauces and the veggie fillings of the sandwich can get things messy but that's what makes it fun to eat. Highly recommend! read more

can't even count the amount of times we come back here. Quality never fails. We always get the cod sando and it's piping hot! It's like elevated filet-o-fish from mcd's lol. As a Filipino, the flavors HITT!! Even their daybird sauce has that hint of Maggi. Their tartar sauce was very herby which I liked. The chicken tenders are coated with dust that reminds me of a Filipino chip. We got the caviar with the cod sando once, it was too fishy imo Quick service, there's a bar to stand and eat. Bathrooms in the back of kitchen. Def a place to take food to go. read more
I've had a lot of fried chicken sandwiches in my life and Daybird takes the crown for the best fried chicken sandwich out there. Located inside a strip mall with the narrowest of parking lots, Daybird is a very unassuming chicken shop. Don't let the lack of a line out the door scare you either -- the food speaks for itself. I got the Szechuan hot chicken sandwich -- medium heat, while my wife got the hot cod sandwich -- mild, with cheese and yuzu tartar sauce. Though I enjoy spicy food, I think medium heat was my limit. Anything beyond medium I would probably have a difficult time enjoying. The chicken cutlet is not the only thing spicy in the sandwich: the slaw contains a generous amount of spicy peppers as well. Don't say I didn't warn ya! The chicken cutlet is absolutely massive. Come hungry and plan on doing nothing after eating this sandwich because you'll feel like a potato afterwards. The chicken cutlet overextends the bun by 1.5 times and could easily accommodate another burger bun. The fry on both the chicken cutlet and fish filet is perfect. The crunch you get when you bite into the sandwich is not too dissimilar from taking a bite out of a potato chip. So crunchy! Both proteins were incredibly juicy and tender, especially the cod filet, which flaked apart beautifully. If you dine in, you're eligible for a 10% discount off each item. This was a nice surprise, as its not openly advertised on the menu. I wouldn't recommend eating this sandwich in your car as you will certainly make a huge mess. Taking down this sandwich will take at least 4 to 5 napkins. If you're a fried chicken sandwich connoisseur, you must try out Daybird. It's a perfect 5/5 in my book. read more
Caviar tartar is an eye popping extra 60 dollars on top of the fish sandwich Came to daybird to try their fish sandwich with generous caviar tartar. Also had to try their Szechuan hot Sando I'm of the mind it's never a waste try something at least once but the price tag was painful. I didn't think the fish was by any means spectacular and it honestly felt like the caviar was wasted. I also personally felt the piece of kraft single on top of the fish patty was out of place. Overall the fish sandwich and the caviar was an easy pass. The Szechuan chicken sando however was exceptional. Juicy tender and well seasoned, great crisp breading all combined with an innovative mala spice. I would absolutely go back for the chicken sandwich! The shop is pretty small in a very tight strip mall so parking may be quite difficult. I'd suggest going during off hours. read more
I had their Szechuan Hot chicken sandwich a few years back and loved it, but this time I'm reviewing for their Hot Cod Sando $20. Pretty pricey so not something I'll buy often, but definitely worth the try! A gourmet take on a filet-o-fish, topped with yuzu tartar sauce. I really enjoyed their hot cod sando! It had just the right touch of mild spice and a flavorful, crispy breading. Simple, but packed with flavor and the yuzu tartar made it extra delicious. I need you to understand how this could be my only meal for life. Forever. So I had both sandos, the chicken and cod. The chicken was marinated and pounded to perfection in prep, so it cooks evenly and stays hella juicy. The batter is so crispy, my ears tingled with every bite. The Szechwan spice seasoning holds tight to the batter, embedding a bold taste that holds its own before you reach the slaw. Some might like the bird pure, but I alternate between clean bites (no sauce), and dirty bites (drenched in daybird sauce). How that sauce elevates each bite is beyond me. There's no overpowering, only enhancement of the protein and fresh cabbage slaw. The potato bun is like a whisper. Soft, yet sturdy enough to hold the bird and support the flavor profile. The cod is also a star! It's such a big piece, yet she stays golden, crunchy, and delicate on the inside. The Kraft single adds a nice lunch box nostalgia. It hits like cheese but doesn't come in all salty and forceful. A fun choice! Keeps the grounded and unpretentious. As for the tartar sauce, I normally skip it. I bring small packets of kewpie if I need a fish condiment. But this tartar sauce? Mannnnn it's like if fresh dill met a hollandaise sauce and never quit. I licked the container it was so good. The fish comes slathered in it, but next time (if they allow it) I'd get two extra sides of it for my fries or simply to slurp solo. Side notes for my Diet Coke drinkers, while the tiny bottle is cute, I guzzled it in two turns. Head to 7-Eleven across the way and grab a 20oz. The daybird sauce is as if you said, "Gimme a fried chicken comeback mayo sauce, but hit it with some hoisin and other Asian spices." Also! They have a board outside that says whether or not they have cod left for the day. They go quick so come early! We were the first to order on the day. There was one chef in the kitchen, and he had our food out fast, along with everyone else's. The employee on the register was patient with us as we took a beat to order. Excellent service! read more

After seeing everyone and their mom rave about their chicken sandwiches here, I had to get one. Albeit on DoorDash so it wasn't as fresh as it could've been. BUT it still tasted bomb.com. Frankly, I didn't like Cole slaw within the sandwich. It was weirdly spicy and zestier than I'd like, because they put a lot of chilis in it! Next time I'd ask for it on the side. If you're not a fan of spice, have it on the side. It's spicier than any other Cole slaw I've had. The bread was very soft, slightly sweet. The chicken was generously sized, spilling past the bread, and was super crispy and flavorful. The portion size really filled me up. I'd order the sandwich again!!! With Cole slaw on the side, of course. read more
Dined in 11/14/24 around 6 PM: The fish sandwich was phenomenal, would definitely come back for this. The batter was nice and crunchy, the cod was piping hot and moist. It is a tad bit spicy but super manageable. The chicken sando was definitely having a tough day and felt a bit dry, felt like mostly batter? It's also really spicy lol definitely wouldn't get more than mild if you don't handle spice well, as it's mainly the slaw that amps up the spice level. Service was good, the sandwiches came out quickly. Ambience: there is an eating area that's standing only that will seat like five people total. I didn't check if there was a bathroom but there's a small parking lot underground + unmetered street parking in the area. read more

Through Postmates, I ordered a fish sandwich, 2 tenders and an order of fries. These culinary geniuses sent a fish sandwich, with no fucking TOP BUN! HOW THE F*CK DO YOU FORGET TO PUT A TOP BUN ON SANDWICH?! I don't even care how it tastes. The complete and utter incompetence ruined my appetite. Imagine if I had've went ahead and ordered the caviar with it. How disrespectful would it have been to have a $90 fish sandwich, with no top bun?! They didn't provide me with the daybird sauce I asked for, for the tenders. Clearly, somebody over there is high or possibly even ret*rded. Or, maybe this is the new business model, do dumb shit that ensures people won't come back a second time. read more
I've heard about this place and been wanting to go for a while. As the name may suggest, they are known and popular for the fried chicken sandwiches. So of course, I came here specifically for their fried fish sandwich (hot cod). But I would argue that it seems like they are almost as well known for their fish sandwich as well. The place itself is not large (ordering counter and I think some standing counter space to enjoy year meal there) and has simple straightforward menu. The people were very friendly here. Came here for lunch and ordered an iced Hong Kong milk tea to wash down the sando. This drink was very tasty by the way. The sandwich might seem not very cheap, but it does seem like a fair to good deal once you get it. The fish portion is pretty huge. I'm not a small person and I was pretty full after finishing it. The flavors were amazing and the texture was perfect - a nice crisp juxtaposed with a soft bun bite. Just a really well crafted fried fish sandwich. Would definitely love to come back and try the chicken sandwich that so many people seem to love. Parking - there's a small lot for this location, but I have to say, it is located at an awkward corner where it would be difficult (if not illegal) to take a left turn into it. You would have to be travelling north or east to take a right turn into the lot. Pretty stressful intersection if it is a busy time of day. read more

Checked this place out because of yelp reviews and chose to get the hot chicken sandwich! was actually impressed at how spicy it was! definitely underestimated how hot it would be considering most "hot" chicken sandwiches aren't ever this spicy. The daybird sauce paired well with the sandwich. It's definitely a messy meal so I'd recommend getting it to go and eating it at home. The dining setup is just a standing area with a long wooden table! no setting so keep that in mind! If i'm in the area I would definitely come again. This sand which was super filling read more
Came to Daybird with the idea that these sandwiches will taste basic ... but waow I was proven so wrong !! The true star of the show is the fish sandwich (hot cod sando) -- the fish was so smooth and juicy on the inside, yet the outside was crispy. The fish was AMAZING but what was even crazier was the sauce -- CHEESEY YUZU TARTAR SAUCE UGHH I'm still thinking about this meal ! I was saur close to purchasing the astrea kaluga caviar but everyone says it's not worth + you can't even taste the caviar (as a caviar connoisseur this was so hard to say no to xD) We also got the szechuan hot chicken sandwich which was AMAZING too but if you come to daybird you really need to try the fish sandwich for sure. The chicken sandwich was also saur crispy and LOTS and LOTSSS of flavor -- asian flavored inspired sandwich which I lovved. We came to Daybird on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy. At 2pm, it's expected to wait a bit for the food. The only thing is I wish they had indoor seating. They have a small area you can eat but you can only stand up which we were iffy about // so we ended up eating in the car. Small takeout joint with stand up counter if you want to eat in. Only one or two people working the kitchen. You can watch them make the food in front of you behind plexiglass. Fish sandwich is fantastic. Chicken sandwich is solid but I would come back for the fish sandwich. Fries are forgettable. Pickles are okay but won't get again; too pricey to pay $2 for a small sauce container size of pickles and ginger. read more

Found this spot on tik tok from when it went viral. You come to a place like this expecting high prices but good quality food , and it definitely was what I expected. We got 2 sandwiches the original chicken and the fish. Both were delicious, portions actually good but prices also extremely high. Chicken was great but the fish sandwich was definitely the standout (there's just so many good competing chicken sandwich spots in LA but can't say the same about a fish filet style sandwich). No seating, just standing bar along the back wall and no AC either (at least when I went a few months ago). Strong scent of oil/fryer inside the store so needed to wait a few steps away from the door (but that's to be expected when your menu is only fried food lol). This was definitely a novelty lunch, I don't know if I'll be back but if I am it'll definitely be for the fish sandwich. Ultimately would give a 5 rating for the food, just be prepared for the prices! read more
I hope the people at Daybird don't read this but BRING YOUR OWN CAVIAR !!! I am Bonnie. Yelper. Foodie but BROKE because corp laid me off. What to do when ya richie friends who have jobs can afford the $80 caviar fish sando . You bring your own caviar. It might not be the fancy one offered at DayBird but the caviar being mixed in the tartar sauce kinda misses the flavor of caviar. Buy the $20 fish sando and go to Amazon fresh for $10 caviar and tada! I love my version and feel $50 richer. I give 5 star for the food. I tried the fish burger and it was worth the $20, trust me. Would not recommend the hong kong milk tea though. It resembles nothing of hong kong milk tea except the color of it. But I still give 5 stars for the food, just not the milke tea. Plenty of underground parking space. read more

SO. GOOD. The sandwiches were both super hot and crispy. The chicken had a mouth watering szechuan flavor and definitely had a kick even when we ordered mild. The piece of chicken is huge which we cut off the excess to eat separately, and they do not skimp with the slaw inside. The fish sandwhich was EVEN BETTER. The yuzu aioli carried the flavor and made the perfect citrus sauce to accompany the crispy fish and soft bun. read more
Parking: There is minimal upper floor parking and a underground parking lot. There is a parking enforcement attendant that will tell incoming cars to park underground if there are no spaces above. I would highly recommend coming before the store opens as parking is easier. Service: There will be a small line of people waiting in line here and there. No dining seating inside the shop. Hot Condo Sando: The whole fish sandwich was cookery perfectly. For a thick fried fish I can see why it's $20. Eating one sandwich will make you feel full so I would count it as a full meal. Personally, the fish thickness overpowered the other parts of the sandwich so trying this as a one time for the experience was great. However if you're a fan of equal portion then I would stick with MCD fish filet. Hot Sando (Spice Hot): Chicken was bigger than the bun! So so crispy and so juicy. The spice was there and can build up overtime. Love this sandwich, personally I like this than the condo sandwich. Pickles (w/ginger): $2, sliced and packed in a sauce container. I would only recommend buying this side for the Hot Sando if you don't want an overwhelming heaviness of the chicken. read more

Came here to try the fish sandwich cuz I've been hearing a lot about it. For $20, I would say it was worth it! If I ordered fish at a restaurant, they would've easily charged $30 for a small piece. But this was HEFTY. A nice, big piece of cod with a thin layer of breading. I could not finish my sandwich, it made me sooooo full. So, again, good value for the quality and size. I will say: my mind wasn't blown. Either my expectation was too high or it wasn't as flavorful as it should've been bc I didn't get it with spicy sauce. But staff was nice, there was an area to stand and eat. The quality is very good and it didn't taste bad! It is a small place so if it gets crowded, I can imagine you would have to eat in the parking lot. read more

Wonderful service and amazing quality food but there are some weird spices I wasn't expecting in the cod sando, they use cayenne hot oil, but it wasn't too spicy, it tasted like some sort of Indian spice. My hubs and I have been wanting to come to Mei Lin's Daybird for a long time now... Soo glad we finally made time during our lunch to indulge! The food was spicy (as requested) and so appetizing, the staff was nice and very focused... not super cheery but organized and brought food out to us as it came out and the atmosphere was clean organized, no-muss kind a joint-- love it!! This is my second time here and it's still as good as the first time. On Saturday, I tried the cod fish sandwich with cheese and it was simple, but stood on business! Light and hit the spot. Last time I was here, I tried their fried chicken sandwich. Might be one of my favorite chicken sandwiches in Los Angeles besides Le Coupe. The slaw alone is award worthy. I'm not sure if they put star anise in it but it sure tastes like it. Completely unique. They serve it up on time or even a little before, which I can appreciate. Service is a 5. Saw a post on Instagram and planned to visit eventually. Decided to come by for lunch today, much sooner than expected but gotta start hackin at my plans list lol! We got here around 11:40, didn't really realize or notice it at first since we weren't familiar with their logo and the small lit up Daybird sign wasn't very noticeable but we got lucky and found parking in this SUPER tiny parking lot. I think all the spots are only 30 minutes too so it's definitely made for a quick in and out? We were maybe 3rd in line but it went quickly. They don't have indoor seating or tables but they have a bar you can stand and eat at. My bf and I got the Hot Cod Sando with side of fries and a Mexican Squirt and Milk Tea. Food came out pretty quick! Didn't know what to expect but the cod sando was $20 and doesn't come with sides or a drink so it had to be worth it, right? Definitely!! Biggest piece of cod and they really load it up with their Yuzu Tartar sauce. The buns are super soft too! Be aware that these are piping hot when you first get them. I was basically drooling and couldn't wait. The sauce is absolutely delicious and the cod just melts in your mouth. The fries and milk tea were just okay, definitely could go without them. Gotta try Mei Lin's chicken sando. She's the tournament of champions 3 winner! Shared parking lot or underground parking garage. Small store. No place to sit. It's a standing table. We ordered: Schzhuan hot chicken sando mild - like it, very crispy, not too oily, nice with spicy cabbage and aoli. Hot Cod sando mild - lightly breaded but could've more flavour. Parking is abundant. Small and crowded store. Staff was cordial. Prices on the higher side but still on Earth. The chicken tender was very dry. It was not juicy at all. Medium spice had a good kick. The fish sandwich was crunchy. Flavorful sauces. But the meat on the fish was not great. It might be flakey but it was slightly overcooked so some parts had more chew. Hong Kong milk tea flavor seemed off as if evaporated milk is missing. I was told they rank amongst the top for fried chicken and fish and LA and I was disappointed. BEST FISH SANDWICH IN HUMAN HISTORY!!! The Filet-o-Fish wishes they could step to Daybird. No notes, a must try. The chicken tender was very flavorful and had a crispy tasty coating, but the chicken itself was on the dry side. Seemed like they just overcooked the chicken, and if it was cooked for the right duration then it would be a great tender. But for now it's 3 stars The coleslaw was light, bright and paired well with the rich savory chicken and fish sandwich. The fries were fine. The breading of the chicken was airy yet crispy and very enjoyable. The seasoning is spicy and sweet at the same time and the bun is very similar to a Hawaiian roll! Which I love but a con to that though is that it gets really soggy at the end. The sandwich gets progressively spicier as you eat it and although I didn't feel any spiciness at first, my lips were numb by the end of it. I really liked the slaw! So refreshing and countered the spice while also bringing a slight salty flavor. For about $16 this sandwich is huge and very filling. I need to come back and try the fish sandwich next. The place operates as a quick service restaurant, where you order at the counter and there isn't any seating but there's a wooden ledge you can stand and eat at. read more
Order two sandwiches, fries, a tender and a lemonade. But you also get a little appetizer before you even reach the sandwich because the whole chicken doesn't fit. I think just had to take a solid five bites before I reached the actual sandwich! I got the medium, my bf got the hot and ended up ordering an extreme chicken tender after. The sandwich is so good. From the extra bites of chicken before you reach the sandwich to the soft and delicious bread. The coleslaw seems Asian inspired and reminded me of the pickled veggies you get in Banh Mis. They also throw some jalapeños in there. The medium didn't start off spicy but I was dying towards the middle of my sandwich. Didn't really get any of the numbing sensation that I've been obsessed with lately but still a good chicken sandwich. I took a bite of my bf's hot sandwich which I didn't think was a lot spicier. The extreme tender, though. Nearly killed me. Very very spicy and even had my nose running. Service is quick and they even gave us a thing of pickles because I was SUFFERING from the tender. I'm not that big of a fan for fried fish sandwiches, but I was told this was the best spot possible, from a fried chicken shop. I got to daybird right when they opened and ordered the hot cod sando. I got the sando to go and didn't get back to my place until 15 minutes later. The sando was still very crispy and hot when I took the first bite. It looked a bit small for a $20 sandwich, but it is very thick and packed with fish meat. The yuzu tartar sauce gives a nice acidic taste to the crispy and flaky fish patty. By the time I finished the sandwich, I was already full. Overall, this hot cod sando made me re evaluate my opinions on fried fish sandwiches. It was one of the best non chicken sandwiches I've ever had. I originally thought $20 was quite steep. After eating the sando, it was 100% worth my money. I will be coming back to try the chicken sando too. read more

What type of fish is used in the fried fish sandwich?
If I'm not mistaken, I believe it's cod. But it's a big special cut piece. I'm not exaggerating when I said it was 3-4 inches thick. Maybe bigger.
Are they all Spicy?
No. You can order with no spice (just normal fried chicken), mild, medium, hot or super hot.
Does Daybird fry their chicken in peanut oil? Asking for allergy reasons
Their website clearly states that all of their chicken is fried in rice bran oil.
