Just got a pair of suit pants tailored. The tailor is an older Korean gentleman. Very friendly and honest too. He told me the suit jacket I brought to have tailored didn't make sense to have work done on it because of the cost/fit. He made some great recommendations too. The turnaround time was great too. $80 for pants is a little steep, but I'm not sure how much other tailors cost and the pants fit great. 10% off for cash too. read more

I went to this place on recommendation from a colleague and by looking at reviews on here. Finding a good tailor that is also not crazy high on price can be challenging. James took great care of me when I arrived. He took his time measuring me and talking about the alterations that I was looking to get done to my suits. Everything I have brought here has been handled amazingly. Invitation either I was especially impressed with how he mended the frayed pockets in my wool coat: I bought a piece of soft black leather and he used that to add leather trim to my pockets, completely hiding the frayed bits. Now the coat looks more stylish then it did before! Unfortunately the hours and distance from the metro mean I don't make it out there often. I have also shown up during business hours to see the store closed without any warning, so I feel the need to call and check that it is open next time I make the trip up. read more

I had to get a few shirts altered because there was just fabric billowing everywhere (seriously.. I am not a slim guy but apparently everything is vanity sized these days). Brought them in, James did a quick but thorough measurement and that was it. Picked them up a week later and was amazed at the workmanship and the improvement in fit. Another important point - I brought in a blazer I'd bought off the rack. I felt it fit me pretty well, but I wanted him to take a look at it. I put it on, he applied his expertise, and let me know that it fit well as it was and didn't need further alteration. I really appreciated his honesty with that. He also keeps a wide collection of swaths for custom clothing. I'm not in the market for it, but the completed products on display in the store look absolutely gorgeous. read more

I've had several items altered at De Louice at different times over the past few months: They took in the waist of pants (substantial alterations), shortened and completely retailored - practially remade - two skirts, and fixed the bodice of a dress. Though it is clear they specialize in custom-made clothing, they were very welcoming and seemed happy to take the alterations. The quality of the sewing was very high. It was clear they took the time to do it right, even though they were casual clothes. I also appreciated that the tailor suggested a cheaper option than I had anticipated to fix my dress. I have been to many other tailors/seamstresses in the Tenleytown area, and I find this shop to be the best thus far. read more

We took in a tuxedo that my fiance's father had made 50 years ago to be altered for our wedding, and not only did James manage to rework the suit so that it looked like it had been custom made for him, not his (shorter, rounder father), but he was incredibly friendly and gracious. I live in Arlington, VA and it takes me about 1 hour by Metro to visit James, but I found it worth. I'm a small petite and often need to make alteration to my clothes. During the past 2 years, I've been visiting James store and have had a number of pants and shirts altered. The results are just perfect and they all looked like tailor-made. There are several things I value about James services. First, James is very nice and honest. He is always smiling, and always think for customers. Sometime when I'm not sure about the fit of a newly bought shirt or pant, I would bring them to James with those needed alteration and ask his opinion, he always responds very honestly and never intend to persuade me to do unnecessary alternation. Second, going to James for alteration is very easy. James is very good at measuring the clothes to fit our figure. Every time I visit him, I just try on my clothes and he would take a look at it and make some marks. That's it. Then he would explain to me what the problems are and how he is going to alter it and improve the fit. I always feel assured and I always find the results amazing. Third, James is very picky about his work, which means that he does his job very seriously. Once I brought a pant to him and asked him if he could do the alteration on site. Because I thought it was a small problem, just a few stitches to sew in the waist which was about 2 size larger for me. I thought it was easy job. But James wouldn't do it. He said if I really want it be done that way, he would do it for me for free, but he doesn't like the idea of rushing a job. He also explained to me that altering the waist of pant is a delicate can complicated job, that all the original stitches on the waist must be open and re-sew to make a balance and better fit. Another "picky" thing about James is that he does all the alternation job himself. I once asked him why he didn't hire some one to help him when the busy season comes. He said once he did hire some people but was not satisfied with their workmanship, after that he never hire anyone and always do every single piece of work himself. Last and most important is that, the fee James charges are very reasonable and are less than I expected. read more

I have taken many items for alterations and the work completed have been outstanding. Some of my dresses and skirts have been challenging due to the fabric and patterns on them.
