Well.... Location is not all that. It's a hole in the wall in a shopping center. Nothing fancy. The food is good. But not as others think it is. It did taste authentic. Portions too small for the high prices charged. Disappointed that the menu had NO PRICES. What is that, they need to update the menus. They have a menu at the entrance that has pricing, but when the bill came, the prices where higher. Come on folks. read more

I used bathroom and they must of just had a delivery, cause cans stacked up high.. no fresh food being used here all processed foods (not good for your consumption) and boy does it taste like it.. my food was cold the flavors were what you expect from a can.. Found our local spot for Mexican! Hand made tortillas, Birria de chivo, chicharron tacos were amazing! They have a wide selection of dishes for all. Beans and rice were spot on, and the chips and salsa were always served to us fresh. The service was also exceptional and totally exceeded our expectations. This has always been our go to spot for either breakfast or some tacos. We always have great service and the food is always delicious. Unfortunately, this time we weren't that impressed. They've updated menus and increased the prices. The restaurant was a little dusty and dirty-they may have been renovating, but wasn't clear. Then this time we had to wait over 30 + mins for our meal to come out after placing it. Way too long in our opinion. The best burrito I've ever had. Love this place I get the carne asada and chicken burritos with extra protein after a long workout with a side of sour cream and small side of guacamole and it is always perfect. I've been here a few times since moving to Brea. Service is always exceptional. They always bring you a set of chips and salsa regardless of how much or little you order. They have their special for taco Tuesday and it's a bargain for food and service you get. My favorite are the asada and al pastor. Their house made tortilla tacos are quite big. You can't go wrong with either the street taco or the homemade version. I've yet to try other entrees on the menu, but by the way they keep expanding the dining area, I'm sure I will not be disappointed. read more

I love when I am in an area I have never been to, and I open up Yelp to find somewhere to eat, and it turns out amazing. Within the first 5, maybe even 3 restaurants near me, was La Puerta. I will be honest, pulling into the parking lot, I wasnt sure I wanted to go in. I am so thankful I did. Dont judge a book by its cover... or a restaurant by its.... simple outside? Anyway, I was greeted at the counter right away, and was seated immediately. I was in the area for a work conference, so it was just me. There was a nice little table for two on the side, under the big fork and spoon on the wall which I loved. I was torn between fajitas or the carne asada plate. I went with the carne asada. I started in on the chips and salsa, and whew did that salsa have a bite! I like to think I can handle some spice, but it bit me! I liked it. The plate of carne asada had a very large piece of meat on it, and had grilled onions and I want to say either green pepper or jalapeno strips on top. I stayed away from the pepper since I wasnt sure. I dont need to choke from the spice in the middle of this little place in Brea. There was rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, and guacamole on the plate as well. I chose flour tortillas over corn, and there were two in the container... I could have used a third, but it was ok, I ate the rest of my plate without the extra carbs. Everything had SO much flavor and was so delicious. I literally ate everything but the tomatoes. I couldnt stop. The chips were fresh and every single part of my meal was fresh and had amazing flavor. There are a total of 13 tables in the restaurant... I believe there were only 2 of the 2 seaters, and the rest were 4 with one or two 6 seaters. I can see this place getting packed at any time. I was lucky and didnt have to wait, I got there on a Wednesday around 11:55am. A lot of people came in to get food to go as well. My only reason for not giving this 5 stars, was it was really warm inside. Small complaint, considering the amazing food. The woman that sat me, and checked in on me, called me sweetie, and was so very nice. My waitress was really nice as well. I have more seminars later in the year to attend, and I will be back here for sure! read more

When I realized the owners were from El Taco Sabroso in Placentia, most noted for their delicious home made corn tortillas, I knew the food would be good. La Puerta is located at the former El Lucero location in a non-descript strip mall in a quiet residential area of Brea. The word on the quality of their food has gotten around because they are quite busy. They are packed for lunch and they say dinner is busy too. This is so awesome to see. La Puerta has the same delicious corn tortillas which makes their tacos special. They also have hearty and delicious soups on their everyday menu, including caldo de res, caldo de pollo, chicken tortilla soup and some seafood soups. I came with a Mexican food snob from work and he had the chilaqueles con huevos and he gave his thumbs up. Our picky son had the sopes and he loved it. There are so many other things that I've yet to try. Just looking at the photos makes my mouth water. The interior is bright, clean and welcomy. This was one knock I had on El Taco Sabroso which was dark and a little dingy. The service is warm, attentive and super friendly. They check on you frequently and drinks are always promptly refilled. There might not be a need to go to Placentia anymore. La Puerta is every bit as good, if not better, than those restaurants, especially the overrated El Farolito. read more

I went to this restaurant I ordered a wet burrito with their special sauce. It was so disgusting it tasted old . The worst burrito I ever had a wet burrito. This place, hands down, is my favorite Mexican restaurant in town. It's a small mom and pop restaurant. I've been there many times, and I've always had a great time. The food is amazing. My spouse is very picky with her Mexican food, and she absolutely loves this place. Also, they have a high amount of vegetarian options compared to other similar restaurants. I've tried various items from the menu, and I've been pleased with every choice. As of right now, I can't say that I have a favorite because I'm a fan of everything I've had. On another note, they serve breakfast all day. So if you're craving a breakfast burrito during dinnertime (such as I have many times), they offer it. Since the restaurant space isn't that big, there are times (especially on Sundays) when you'll have to wait to be seated, but it's totally worth it. read more

My wife and I are always reluctant to try New Mexican restaurants in Brea because they are typically not authentic enough, The salsa is never spicy, the tamales are dry the tortillas are from a bag. But this little gem was quite the pleasant surprise. Soft homemade tortillas. Salsa that leaves a slight tingle on the lips and a complex flavor on your tongue. The tamales were perfectly tender and the masa was delicious. The chicken Mole was on point and melted in your mouth. I think it's safe to say we've found a new favorite. read more

Was craving some ceviche so my friend and I pulled up here for a quick bite. We thought it was a quick spot to order and quickly eat and go but it's actually a sit down restaurant. I ordered a fish taco and the shrimp ceviche. The fish taco had all the fixings with the mayo and coleslaw. The tortilla had a good thickness as none of my orders came with any sides so with the taco and ceviche got me pretty full. They give a good amount of ceviche which was mixed with fresh veggies. I thought the flavoring was great however wish there was a bit more spiciness and salt. Complimentary salsa and chips is always nice. So I give this place props. The salsa was okay, I thought it had a weird after taste. The tacos were okay, nothing extraordinary. They were really small and I thought they were a bit pricier than other Mexican joints ($2.35). My shrimp tostada was 8.99. It came with two tostadas and a side of avacodo. The shrimp needed to be cooked a bit longer. We also ordered the queso with chips. I was disappointed. It was super greasy and chunky. Overall, the staff was super nice and attentive. The food was okay. They have birria and carnitas plates, so maybe those are delicious. Maybe I'll be back. read more

Had a wonderful first experience here on Taco Tuesday this week! A friend and I had two tacos each, carne asada fries, and flan for only $21! The tacos are street tacos, mainly just meat, some salsa, and onions on two small tortillas. I had an asada taco and a pollo taco...definitely getting only asada next time. The chicken wasn't bad but the asada was much better! They also have some fun options like beef tongue if you're into that! Tacos were only $1.25 each! Would've had more if it weren't for the fries... The fries were amazing! They were topped with carne asada meat, melted cheese, guacamole, beans, tomatoes, and jalapeño. It's listed on the menu as an appetizer but pretty sure my friend and I could've shared only that and had been satisfied! It's a huge portion and very delicious! Now on to the flan... I am a well-known flan lover and this was one of the best flans I've ever had. It was creamy and rich and the caramel sauce and whipped cream was a beautiful and tasty addition. $4 felt like a lot for flan when my two tacos were only $2.50, but it was SO WORTH IT. I LOVE FLAN! The service was great and the atmosphere was very homey, which I liked a lot. Highly recommend and will be coming back! My only complaint would be I ordered the taquitos plate and they didn't put enough guacamole so I asked for more...well, when I went to pay they charged me $3.50 for the SMALLEST side of guacamole...I didn't say anything or make a complaint bc the waiter was really nice but I just think that if they would just add some more on the original plate I wouldn't have to request more and then pay almost $4 for the smallest amount.... WOW! This place not only has amazing food, but the service is even better! Came on a Sunday for a late breakfast with a friend and we wanted some some drinks to go along with it. Well, they don't serve any drinks, but trust me the food makes it worth it. So after we ordered we asked our server Laura if we can step out to the bar next door real quick then be right back. She said sure! I left my card so they don't think I'll leave we're bailing on them. Right as we were finishing our drinks here comes Laura letting us know our food is ready! Did she have to do that?
