We came he wondering why on earth anyone would name a restaurant "Dead Dog Saloon." It's obvious when you walk in the front door. There are dead dogs hanging all over the place. As we walked in a Golden Retriever was hanging right in front of us and a pug was hanging directly to his right. German Shepards, Dachshunds, poodles, mutts of all kinds. They were all just hanging there. These were family pets at one time. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Dead dogs stacked up everywhere in that lobby. My wife and I had tears in our eyes. Fortunately they were all pictures in frames and not actual dog corpses. But it is a beautiful tribute to their customers' pets. Service was top notch in my opinion. This place can get packed and loud but our server was n top of it all. The food was actually better than I expected. Take a look at the picture of the hush puppies I ordered. That was a small portion and they were delicious. Seafood wasn't over cooked and the drinks were on point. They usually have a band n the evening and it gets pretty loud but an actual live band is a plus to me (not one guy playing a guitar and singing. I hate that). Food: good. Service: good. Logic of ownership: questionable!! Unlike restaurants across the country, the lunch policy is STRICTLY enforced until stated lunch time has been reached. The servers ordering tablets restrict any possibility of an accidental lunch order until the appropriate time. Indeed, Stranger than fiction. I wasn't even allowed to order lunch prior to stated lunch time. IF I was able to order lunch during breakfast time I'd at least have my lunch less than 30 minutes after lunch time started. It gets more interesting, your welcome to order alcohol during breakfast hours. I see the owners priorities are in order. Choose wisely. read more

We were taken here for breakfast before flying home. A scenic vista into the marshes provides a great backdrop for any meal. You can opt to eat indoors, where hundreds of photos of patrons' departed canine friends line the walls. (I wonder if I can mail them a photo.) For a Monday morning breakfast in a half-full restaurant, the service was quite slow. I get it, these places probably run on a shoestring budget -- and I can't fathom how insane rent on the marsh walk must be -- but that did put a damper on things, considering we had to catch our flight home soon. I can't fault the staff for friendliness, though, and memorizing our orders with perfect accuracy. My girlfriend and I got the crab cake Benedict and fried oyster Benedict, and I can't decide whose meal was better. Those dawgs in the kitchen are at the top of their game, let me tell you! The home fries were excellent. I finally tried grits, and they were bland, but when I mixed in the remains of my meal that were stuck to the plate (and some hot sauce), the grits sprang to life. (The southerners at our table said that's normal for plain grits -- no fault of the restaurant.) The Dead Dog Saloon is worth a trip for anyone looking to liven up a visit to Myrtle Beach. read more

Wife and I were in town for the week and wanted to try out something new for seafood. We decided on Dead Dog seemed to have had more people than other places in the area, we had to park across the street in the dirt parking lot. We were seated outside on the deck next to the stage where they have live music, we had a great view of the creek. The menu is pretty big has a lot of items on it and it has a nice drink selection with some quick made drinks. Our server came over to get our drink order wife had a regular margarita and I asked about a few of the drinks and she just said ya that's a good one so I just got the pirates punch. Both drinks were ok nothing to rush back for broth were $9. When she returned with our drink she also brought a basket of hush puppies, they are very good and the honey butter is good also. So we ordered wife had the Heavenly Trio we asked how the crab cakes were made and she said there's bacon in them and everything is grilled and I ordered the chipotle shrimp tacos with lime rice and a cup of she crab soup. The soup was ok not as thick as I like it and they didn't offer any sherry to add to it. The trio was ok the crab cake is surely not a Maryland cake, the crab cake is coated with panko $38. I thought this is local seafood it doesn't have to travel like most other seafood I would have thought the prices would have been a lot more reasonable. The shrimp tacos were very good for the first bite, after that the corn tortillas fell apart so it ended up swing a fork and knife meal. They should use flour tortillas and grill them slightly and they would hold up a lot better when moisture is added, the lime rice was ok nothing to rite about. Overall food was ok I'd try someplace else next time just to see how the other places are. Maybe if the drink were a little more reasonable I know I would have ordered more, this is a cheap liquor drink at the most $2 so $6-6.50 they would sell so many more drinks. It has become a little less enjoyable to eat out everywhere with prices sky rocketing and portions smaller. There is a great boardwalk to walk on after or before the eat. read more

Love love love the location and the views of the marina. Drinks were good they did not make their typical bloody Mary's that we were expecting, service was ok. The peel and eat shrimp some of the best I've had, the scallops are huge and were cooked to perfection. The Boo Boo Tender Bites were my favorite of everything I tried on the menu. read more

This is more of a nostalgia thing than anything. The atmosphere is a little bit morbid. Hundreds if not thousands of photos of dead dogs line the walls. The patio is the best seating but if you don't like live, loud music then stay inside. The real star of the show are the hush puppies and honey butter. They're so good! The rest of the food is good but not memorable. The fried shrimp is crumby and crispy. The burgers are good but not amazing. Worth the stop and we go back every year but the food isn't why. read more

Really enjoyable meal here. Outdoor seating is beautiful and the music was good. Overall the food and service were good. We enjoyed both the Murrells Colada and the Gator piss, and how could you not try something with a name like that. The Dirty Myrtle was again my favorite draft beer, really good DIPA. The kids tried the smoothies and liked those as well. The meal started with complimentary hush puppies and that set a really good tone. They were loved all the way around. After that I tried the She Crab soup and it was good but Lulu's has a much better one. The Heavenly Inlet Trio was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. I though the best of the 3 was the Crab cake but the scallops were not far behind. Nothing wrong with the shrimp but the other two were just way tastier. The tots were really good also. My wife had the Cajun chicken Alfredo and enjoyed it but did it was more of a good than a great. HOLY HOLY HOLY sh*t!!! So, we went for Sunday brunch, and I finally had a traditional Southern breakfast. I had the shrimp and grits with eggs over easy atop. This was the ringer of our whole trip! The dish was . . . SUCCULENT! Perfectly cooked grits, devine shrimp and the eggs complemented it to the hilt. I actually sneakily put my finger around the plate to get every last lick - I kidd you not! To think that I thought that Seasons 52 did this dish well - hell no - this was the REAL deal - damn!!! Be careful here. I went here over the weekend and purchased a round of drinks for everyone I was with. I was the DD and Sober due to pregnancy, so I know I have been scammed. I left a $5 tip on my credit card and the bar changed that tip to $20!! My credit card statement alerted me to the 61% tip, which I did not do. I now need to call the owner to see if they will give me the money back, which they most likely will not. I was scammed out of $15 at the back patio bar. Never again will I come here for drinks. Dead Dig Saloon only gives it to just the military person. I inquired to the manager about it thinking the waitress made a mistake. The manager confirmed it is only a discount for the service member. The food not so much. 4 people got the wrong order. We got that straightened out. Only 4 of the people like the food. The chicken bites were garlic parm but tasted like plain chicken. Cool spot and great food. We are new to the area and have a goal of trying all the marsh walk food spots. That said, its your typical "on the water" spot from a view standpoint, but it was one of my favorites so far when it comes to food. Now for areas of improvement. As a local, I wish the prices were a little cheaper. I also didn't find the staff to be super friendly. I tried asking about the dog photos and how to contribute and the 3 workers at the front seemed annoyed I interrupted their conversation. Lastly, and most important to me, I wish they labeled their menus better because my waitress wasn't super sure about my allergy related questions. Luckily, they offer tacos on corn tortillas and have enough items for those who know their allergies to stick to something simple like a salad.
