We have been hearing a lot about Dear Dad's for quite some time and it is highly rated here on Yelp, so we we decided to try it. My wife and I and another couple went in for dinner around 5:30 pm. As ambience goes, Dear Dad's is a nice appealing restaurant. It is billed as a diner, and it has that diner feel. Very light and airy decor. It is inviting. The four of us tried very different menu items. I had the jambalaya, my wife had the sweet chili chicken and shrimp, our friends had the seafood duo, and the bourbon chicken and shrimp. The first thing I have to say is that what I ordered was not a jambalaya. It had cheese on top (jambalaya does not come with cheese on top) and the sauce was more akin to an Italian red sauce than it was a Cajun jambalaya. the couple who joined us are from Louisiana and immediately said "that is not a jambalaya". There was not much spice at all. It was tasty in its own way, but it was not what the name Indicated. Also the rice was minimal and it needed to have more to be a true jambalaya. I can really sum up the other meals by saying that on the positive side, the food is fresh, the flavors are good, but there was nothing that stood out. The shrimp was similar to what you would find in most other restaurants. The chicken had good flavor but once again there was nothing extraordinary about it. The same can be said for the sides. Put simply none of the food wowed us and we are not that hard to wow. There was nothing we had that we didn't feel we could find at a number of other restaurants in town. We had hoped for a lot more. Since Dear Dad's bills itself primarily as a breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurant, perhaps we need to come back and try the breakfast fair. As for the dinner, the food had good flavor, but there was nothing special about it. It just did not match the hype. One minor thing to mention. They have a number of tables for two and then they have some very large comfortable looking booths that can seat 4 to 6 people. We walked in the door along with a party of two. The party of two was seated at the final big available booth, leaving us to deal with two small tables pushed together for the four of us. Everything was everything! The customer service that met us in the parking lot after witnessing a very rude encounter from another customer. The (what seemed to be) managers/owners were extremely friendly along with every staff member we interacted with. Food is pictured. Nothing negative to say about any of it. (Well just that the beignets could've had more powdered sugar but they were delicious!!) The meat on the sandwiches were both seasoned very well. If you can get past the atrocious parking situation everything else is fine and dandy. I am fairly certain this is a remodeled waffle house so the parking lot is tight and doesn't accommodate the amount of people who are flocking to try the restaurant. That being said once we were finally seated the service was great and fairly quick. The menu is expansive offering breakfast (all day), lunch, and dinner. I had an omelet, breakfast potatoes and a biscuit. My food was good. I asked for strawberry jam for my biscuit and that jam was amazing you could just taste the fact that it was made fresh there. They have outdoor seating which is nice but also seems to put staff in danger in the cramped parking lot. Overall I like the vibe and ambiance of this place and I'd definitely return. read more

The staff truly made this a 4‑star experience. Everyone was incredibly friendly, including the manager, and their energy set a great tone from the start. As for the food, this place has been hyped up, so I wanted to see what the excitement was about. Honestly, I wasn't impressed. It tasted like standard breakfast fare, and nothing really stood out. I ordered Ali's Favorite with the turkey sausage patty, fried eggs, grits, a biscuit, and a waffle. The turkey patty was dry and lacked flavor. The grits and eggs were pretty good, and the waffle was fine, but again--nothing memorable. The biscuit, unfortunately, was very dry and basically inedible. Like others have mentioned, the space is tight--both inside and in the parking lot. I felt pretty claustrophobic indoors, and it definitely took away from the overall experience. Had to come check this place out for myself. I have seen a lot of videos on social media so I had to come on down! I'm sure everyone that came here has noticed the parking lot is real small and can sometimes feel like you're playing bumper cars. Definitely not the restaurant's fault for that, just be prepared for the lot to be full and keep your head on a swivel when trying to find a parking spot. I've been here a couple times to try a couple different menu options. First time I went I got the red velvet pancakes. The pancakes were nice and fluffy. Very good and filling. If I ever get these again, I would ask for some extra cream cheese icing to have with them. The pancakes are very generous size portion, which is great. I just needed a little extra topping of the icing so some bites didn't taste as dry. This might be my personal preference, others could feel differently and I'd totally understand. Drinks wise, I have tried the caramel latte. It was excellent! I've also tried the Biscoff latte, which is also a crowd pleaser. My most recent visit I got the strawberries and cream French toast. The French toast was very good, and cooked to be very fluffy the way that I like it. Strawberries were fresh as well. The thing that I was looking most forward to getting along with this dish was the ice cream that was included! Unfortunately, by the time it got to the table, it was already melted. I was looking forward to the combination of the cold ice cream along with the soft French toast. I kind of feel like it being served this kind of takes away from the enjoyment of what I was expecting. I recently saw a video online of someone who got this to go and the ice cream was put in a separate container.I would get this dish again, but I'll ask for the ice cream on the side like a small bowl and then apply it to the French toast myself. Upon entering to get my order, I immediately noticed the lively, clean atmosphere of the restaurant. All the tables were filled, the waiters busy, and everyone seemed happy. While I waited for my order, they offered me a complimentary cup of ice water and a seat. It was very refreshing after a long day outside! My order was ready early. Parking was very easygoing, it was not difficult to get in or out of the place like other restaurants on Battleground. The beignets were so soft and delicious! Tried this place for the first time Sunday evening with a couple friends to celebrate a birthday. Best meal I have had in a while!! Everything was delicious, especially the beignets!! I loved their service, and their entire staff is amazing. The place is newly opened and well kept with a nice chic vibe. The coffee is decent and their plate presentation is excellent. They also have an expansive menu with some things done right and others just ok. The food quality is on par with your average diner. We had tried to get into Dear Dad's over the summer but the wait was 45 minutes, so we left. Tonight we were successful in getting seated. Our table ordered French toast and chicken quesadilla plus a house salad. All were excellent, and I want to add the lettuce on the salad was very fresh. Servers were helpful and timely. I know there are many reviews here, so I wanted to leave one tip: THEY TAKE RESERVATIONS on their website and that will help you get seated faster. Parking lot is tight. Must be patient if going on a busy morning. Food is excellent and worth the wait. Pictured are the birria bowl, chicken and waffles, and hashbrowns. My first trip to Dear Dads was amazing! The atmosphere was beautiful, the staff was friendly, and the food was delicious! I ordered the hot chocolate and the skillet with breakfast potatoes, scrambled eggs, and corned beef hash. The hot chocolate was creamy and perfectly sweet. The skillet was wonderfully seasoned and the corned beef was fresh. The mix of textures between the eggs, breakfast potatoes, corned beef, peppers, and onions was a great contrast and helped to enrich the dish. So I REALLY wanted to love this place because I've heard great things and the outside is so cute. Unfortunately, for me, it was just okay. I'm a semi-picky eater so if you look at my reviews you'll see I get a lot of similar food when I go out to eat so I feel somewhat qualified to rate a pretty basic breakfast lol (chocolate chip waffle, bacon, and toast). Pros: the service was great! We went during the evening and were seated right away, and our server was quick and pleasant. I love that they're open later and still serving breakfast because a lot of breakfast places close at 2 or 3. The dishes are so cute which was a really nice touch. I didn't try it but I saw they had fresh squeezed orange juice which sounds delicious. The cons: My food was just okay sadly. I ordered the chocolate chip waffle and there really weren't a lot of chocolate chips at all, even when I cut it open. The bacon was pretty good (it's hard to mess up bacon but definitely possible) but I felt like 2 pieces was a little small. I also added on toast which tasted good but I also felt like the portion was really small because usually places will give you 2 slices. The bread was fine but didn't taste exceptionally fresh or homemade. Maybe my expectations were too high but I was a little disappointed. I also tried the cheese grits and sadly they needed more seasoning and were very watery. Our waitress Emma was absolutely incredible, truly some of the best customer service my husband and I have ever experienced! She was such a joy and made our entire experience 10x better. The wait wasn't long at all, and even if it had been, it would've been completely worth it. The coffee was amazing, and all of our food was delicious, (especially the home fries, they're a MUST)! We highly recommend this place and will definitely be requesting Emma again if she's available when we come back! My wife and I first learned about this place through a Yelp event. It's locally owned and serves comfort diner food. The cakes are made locally by a locally owned bakery. Generally they're not very busy and you can immediately get a table. The portion sizes are generous, even the children's portions. They have their own parking lot with plenty of parking and it's wheelchair accessible. The only negative thing is because the cakes are sourced locally sometimes they're out of what you might want. Either that or it's a conspiracy against me. If you're in the area you should give Dads a try. read more

Money is not an issue but for the price compared to other places. 3,4 dollars more I frequent. I EXPECT a faaaar better "syrup". They served Ms Buttersworth which is absolutely DISGUSTING! The bootle is a refillable bottle I didn't know what it was while pouring it over the French toast. Took a bite & immediately I knew it was not "maple syrup" but rather high fructose corn syrup marketed as syrup. I only knew it was Ms. Buttersworth because I asked the waitress what is this yuck in a bottle lollshe. The turkey sausage presented really nice visually, but the taste, something just was odd about it. Couldn't put my finger on it. If one thing for sure something in it needs to be eliminated. The tomatoes, cheese, and onions were missing, the shrimp was tough and the chili sauce pooled on one side which made the wrap soggy and the green lettuce made it worse. It was also vey salty. Man Oh Man!! I just had one of the best dishes of my life! Today I ordered the Cajun Pasta over Rice. It's usually with pasta but there was a 20 minute wait for it since they make it fresh. They were willing to put it over rice because I just had to have it on my lunch break. The flavors came together like no other. They used red rice which was a nice surprise so I'd say they know what they're doing! This restaurant tends to be pretty busy and that seems to be for a very good reason. Customers should not be sitting elbow to elbow with one another, nor should paying customers have the inconvenience of another customer bumping their table and spilling their drinks. Volume is high at times sitting should be adjusted accordingly. The server we had was forgetful, and she also served the person right besides us and forgot all about her as well. Also if a protein does not come with waffles or pancakes its an additional $4 on top of the price of a waffle or pancake. I arrived at 2:15pm on a Saturday to meet friends for lunch. It was one of their birthdays. They beat me there. I first learned of this place via a Yelp Event a few months ago. The birthday friend suggested a chain restaurant for my treat to lunch but I suggested this instead. The managers Vanessa and Ryan, were present during the visit. I first met them at the Yelp Event. The waitress came over at 2:23pm. We weren't ready yet and she came back. We ordered at 2:28pm. The birthday friend got skillet with pork link with eggs over easy with white bread and strawberry jam. My other friend got steak and eggs with hashbrowns with a side of pork sausage gravy. I got their chicken and waffles with hash browns and strawberry jam. I finished my water fairly quickly and it took a while for waitress to refill water. The food came at 2:42pm. My chicken was a little salty but cooked amazingly. The waffles were delicious. The chicken and waffles come as a sandwich vs separate. At some point, I ate them separately to dip my waffles in the AMAZING strawberry jam. One friend said. "The steak is flavorful and juicy" The other said, "The skillet was pretty good; I was expecting a different type of link." My friends got a piece of bread with their meals and they both felt that more than one piece of bread would've been better. They highly enjoyed the strawberry jam, which I hyped up. One friend added "I liked their music selection" and I concur. The major issue here was there was a LONGGGGG delay in receiving the bill, for an unknown reasons, initially. We waited 35-40 minutes after we were DONE eating. We saw one of the managers, Vanessa, talking with our waitress, Alina. When the waitress returned, she stated there was an issue with the checks while trying to split it, I believe. Apparently another table, who already left, paid for our food. So we paid for theirs. We didn't overpay and they somehow made it work. I worked at a restaurant before this type of situation was handled differently, even when I was in charge. Regardless, we should've been communicated with to be made aware about what's going on. They could've just made a new check for what we ordered and figured out the rest later because 35-40 Mins is a LONG time to wait. One of my friends told me that they felt that the issue should've been handled in private. The cash register is in the front and they (along with other tables) could hear what Vanessa and Alina were saying... Loyalty program isn't the best, in my opinion. You get 1 point per $3 spent. After 50 points, you get $5 off... you have to spent $150 to get $5 off.. it's honestly pointless unless you're going to be a regular. Im enjoyed in so many rewards programs and most places have 1 point per dollar spent. Overall, this was my second time here and I'd likely return again. We really enjoyed the food. If it weren't for the check issue, it would've been 5 starts. read more

Cute and versatile dining in a renovated/redecorated former Waffle House. My first trip to Dear Dad's was for a Yelp event and I was really impressed. So, I decided to return to try this eatery out for real. Since the space is small, there was a short wait on a busy Friday night. However, we were able to get seated after about 20 mins and were promptly offered drinks. I opted for the blackened salmon, mashed potatoes with gravy, and string beans. The salmon was properly cooked and the portion on the string beans was more than generous! There was also guitarist playing some upbeat music on site, which was really a nice touch to our dining experience. Many of the tables are quite close together, so just a little warning that this isn't the place for super intimate dining. However, the social energy and buzz in this place made it a lot of fun. The do daily rotating specials and there's a little something for everyone. I also found plenty of vegetarian friendly options on the menu. I'm not even gonna lie... I almost left We pulled up, went inside, heard "25 minute wait," and I was already mentally back in the car. BUT buddy roll... I'm so glad we stayed because this place did NOT come to play. We found this spot on TikTok while heading to Greensboro, and the internet didn't lie with this one I ordered the skillet with an over-medium egg, my husband got the omelet, and listen...when I say seasoned perfectly, I mean no salt, pepper, or hot sauce needed (and that says a lot coming from me ). Then the drinks?? I had the fresh-squeezed orange juice, so refreshing. My husband got the Biscoff frappe, and I definitely "taste-tested" half of it...for quality control purposes, of course Now let's talk about that pancake. We ordered one just to try it and whew...why did it taste like somebody's grandma made a whole cake and said "here, slice this"?? Soft, sweet, and just right. And the homemade jams?? Yeah...they knew exactly what they were doing with that. And I have to shout out Sunshine at the bar, she was so kind, literally a ray of sunshine I love when someone actually knows the menu and gives real recommendations, and she did just that. Overall, I think I really enjoyed my Sunday afternoon brunch at deer dad's. To start the experience I will say the parking situation is extremely hectic and limited so carpool if possible. even with it being packed, our wait time was not as long as estimated which was good. We did settle for seating outside with a group of three on an extremely hot day. This leads me to the decor inside you can tell the owners just spent a lot revamping a small space to feel chic and quaint. I will start by saying the lattes, coffee and tea beverages left a lot to be desired. While the name seem cute and unique, the drinks themselves were lackluster. I ended up getting a chai inspired drink and could have gone without. Now, on the other hand, the fresh squeeze juices which has free refills was delicious. The food service we had was really good however, the server was not very knowledgeable about the menu. Our waiter was extremely attentive and we never had to wait long for them to show up. The food itself was good. Nothing out of this world crazy the Bria had good flavors, which was nice. I will say the more basic food on the menu such as scrambled eggs and fresh fruit was extremely disappointing as the eggs were not seasoned with anything whatsoever and fruit did have brown spots , but the French toast made up for it. I have been dying to go to this little restaurant for months. Every time i have tried they have been absolutely packed, but yesterday my friend and I managed to nab a table outside and I am so glad we did. The tables are so cute and the interior is dreamy, especially all the flowers around the bathroom area. Our server, natalia, was so sweet and helped us with the menu and our desserts, and one of the hosts really helped us alot as well, but we didnt get his name. Honestly, everyone was wonderful. Haras is an excellent owner. Valentina a magnificent waitress. I do think they need a larger space. I think the prices are a little higher than the food warrants and a larger space may offset the costs. The Mexican jambalaya was a religious experience for my partner. He loved it. My waffle was fluffy and light. The eggs were great, as were the side options including fresh fruit and a true southern biscuit with peach preserves. The fresh squeezed orange juice was divine; however the small size and cost is too high for me. I would have gladly paid $6-$7; but not $10 or more for a large fresh squeezed OJ. Regarding the wait, we were quickly seated with no reservation. I think they've truly brightened the space and it's very charming. I came here the first time specifically for the Beignets with Chocolate Sauce ($8), something that is relatively rare around here, especially if they are very good. And they are very good, and the chocolate sauce simply elevates everything. The Cappuccino ($5) I had with the beignets was very nice as well. The other 2 times in, I tried the Birria Tacos ( more than a bit pricey at 3 for $16 - 4 at Los Juanes in Winston goes for $12.99, same for most area spots), and the Chilaquiles (just under $13). Both dishes were good, not great. There are a number of spots in the area that do these dishes better, and as to the Birria Tacos, at a much better price. I think this restaurant will probably do well, especially with certain folks. I won't be one of them. While the place is attractively appointed it is rather small, you feel crowded, and the noise level can be bothersome, and the parking can be a total mess. When you couple those things with pricing, it is just not for me. read more

Don't have enough time nor space to say how GREAT this place is! Our servers, Theresa & Dexter, were both terrific. We were a table of 7, celebrating our grand-daughter's college graduation. This diner sets the standard for greatness! From the warm, inviting greeting as you walk in to the heartfelt appreciation as you depart, every moment is crafted with care and excellence. Since there was a bit of a waitlist at 11:30 on a Saturday morning, the hostess greeted us upon entering and asked for the number in our party and a phone number. They called us when our seats were ready. We waited about 20 minutes before being offered two seats at the bar, which we happily accepted--my tummy couldn't wait any longer for a table! Sitting at the bar turned out to be a blessing (not just for the view and photo ops) because we had the pleasure of being served by the fantastic Nikki! She was cheerful, accommodating, and full of great suggestions. She answered all our questions and made us feel right at home. For coffee, they only offer oat and whole milk, which was perfect for me since I prefer oat milk--it's lighter on the stomach. I ordered an iced latte with simple syrup and oat milk, and let me tell you, the flavor was astounding. It even came topped with whipped cream, though it wasn't necessary--it's just as incredible without it. I wanted something simple for breakfast, so I chose the Classic Plate. I'm pretty particular about how my eggs, potatoes, and corned beef hash are cooked, so trust me when I say everything was prepared to perfection. The grilled biscuit with their impeccable homemade peach jam is now my go-to! Their jams are made fresh and kept for no more than two days--talk about quality. Hubby opted for the classic French toast, which he thoroughly enjoyed (and even stole some of my hash browns!). The entire staff is impressively efficient, including the kitchen. Our food arrived exactly as ordered, with no issues, and every dish looked as delicious as it tasted. Even the chicken and waffles I saw another patron enjoying looked picture-perfect (see pic). The teamwork here is seamless. The staff, including the manager and owner, work together like a well-oiled machine. I asked one waiter about the origin of the restaurant's name, but since it was his first day, he referred me to Manager Ryan. Ryan mentioned that the story is best told by the owner himself, Mr. Sajjad. Mr. Sajjad's passion and gratitude are unmatched. His journey from where he started to where he is now is truly heartwarming. You can see how much he enjoys people and his work. I watched him teaching staff, serving customers, refilling drinks, and ensuring those waiting for a table were comfortable and had something to drink. He's a gem who keeps everything running smoothly and everyone on their toes. I'm eagerly anticipating my next visit to Dear Dad's--it can't come soon enough! My wife works in Greensboro and saw a lot of positive online feedback since Dear Dad's recently opened their doors. We were also disappointed to miss the Yelp Elite event not long ago. We were in the area on a recent weekend and decided to stop in. We knew they served their entire menu all day, which allows you to choose either breakfast or traditional lunch/dinner items. The building is a former Waffle House, which has ample parking. The interior and exterior have been thoughtfully renovated, and we were very impressed with the overall aesthetic. It's very charming, all the way down to the smallest of details. After a short wait we were seated at the counter and provided menus. Our server Nikki was quick to stop in and take our drink orders. We asked one of the male hosts for his recommendations and he was happy to share. He convinced both of us to order Mexican inspired dishes. Nikki came back to take our orders and was very attentive. My wife chose the shrimp, chicken and steak fajitas with double rice and no beans and tortillas. I chose the birria quesadilla. I'm a big fan of birria in general but have never had it served quesadilla style before, which makes sense because it does make it easier to eat! Our food arrived in a timely manner and looked delicious. I can say that we enjoyed each and every bite. The atmosphere, the service, the food, all top-notch. We were also fortunate enough to meet Sage, the owner. He told us they opened approximately 3 1/2 months ago and said that word of mouth has kept them consistently busy. He shared he had a prior restaurant that closed during covid and when the opportunity came up for this location, he jumped on it. Our recommendation, run do not walk to Dear Dad's. It is a new hotspot in Greensboro for a very good reason! read more
