A couple friends and I visited this place for their soft launch, and we had a great experience. The restaurant itself has a very nice, friendly atmosphere. The food was delicious. We each got something different, and all of the dishes were a hit. The wings were my favorite item, they had so much flavor-but if you can't handle spice, I'd opt out of these! The Thai iced tea was some of the best I had! The food was fresh and came out very quickly! The food was great, but the service was the reason I decided to review this place. It seemed like every person who was working at the time came to chat with us and thank us for dining with them. Service was fantastic, food was ehh, passable. Meeting the standard for Bend food. I was really excited they were opening on the west side, and went on a Thursday around 5ish with a friend. We sat on the west facing side of the restaurant and wouldn't recommend it unless you have some sunglasses/a hat or both, they could really use some sort of shades or something because that sun during sunset is quite rough on the eyes. For food, I got the Spicy Holy Basil Noodle with veggies, and my friend got the Pad Thai and paid the extra $5 to add chicken. Having never heard Spicy Holy Basil Noodle, it felt an awful lot like drunken noodle except.... the rice noodles were too clumped together to eat with chopsticks, the dish wasn't spicy, and there was what appeared to be fried basil(like fresh whole leaf basil that had been deep fried). I'm not really sure I would go with that dish again. The Pad Thai was good, but again 0 on the spicy scale and not even an option to get it spicy, fits the bill for classic Bend food with little flavor. I thought it was odd you have to pay extra for shrimp(what it's usually served with), but liked the option to have a different protein for the same additional price. TLDR: nothing was bad, but the food was classic Bend food(lacking authentic flavor, still $20 a plate). When you go, which you still should, ask for it spicy and bring your sunglasses read more

This place has a lot of buzz, and I think has it has a lot of potential but I wasn't blown away recently when I went there for dinner. The service was great. The food was hit or miss, the chicken wings were excellent in that umami rich, sweet, crispy way that Thai wings should be. However the appetizer of curry and roti was strangely served barely above room temp. The basil with fried chicken is an interesting dish, the chicken did not seem freshly fried however. It was a bit dry; it seemed like it had been cooked earlier and then reheated for our dish. The vegetables were extremely salty as well. The green thai tea was absolutely delicious tho. The entree included 3 cashews and did not contain any pineapple.....The Sukhothai Noodle should have been named "Stand Alone Noodle Dish" due to not including any peanuts, dried shrimp and cilantro. I've had an opportunity to dine here once more, this time via a takeout order instead of DoorDash. I've updated my review to a 5-star rating based upon my second time here in person. I was greeted with a friendly wai, which you don't get in other Thai restaurants here. Nice grace note. The takeout experience is unusual: there's a dedicated kiosk station at the far left of their divided counter space near the front door. Ordering consists of swiping through the different menu categories (salads, noodles, etc) and adding items to your order. You pay there, too. My first attempt at tap failed so I just used a physical credit card. Then, I sat, waited, and watched the team. I showed up at around 5:30pm on a Wednesday and they were doing a brisk business. Three groups of four or six diners arrived in a fifteen minute period, a couple, one DoorDash pickup, and two in-person takeout orders via the kiosk. Busy! The two dining room staff were hopping but attentive. Despite the high volume, my order was handed to me in about 10 minutes, in a paper bag stapled shut (a nice touch, given the recent footage of a DoorDash driver elsewhere in the US spitting in their customer's food). My order was the similar to the original one that was botched during their soft opening: Pad Thai with Fried Chicken, and Holy Basil Noodles with Top Round. This time around, I was pleased to see that the proteins were included. The fried chicken was unusual--battered and deep fried and sliced into strips, laid across the top of the pad Thai noodles. The pad Thai noodles were sweet but not cloying, with fresh bean sprouts, crushed peanuts, with all flavors distinct and clean. The top round that came with the Holy Basil Noodles was thinly sliced and tasty, if albeit perhaps a little light on the portion size for the additional $3. The noodles themselves had a healthy level of spicy heat! Diners unaccustomed to hot spicy foods might find it a bit difficult but I loved it. The noodles were satisfyingly chewy, piquant, and popped with the whole pepper stalk included in the dish. My go-to choice for a Thai meal with lots of variety would still be Toomie's. Dear Mom is making the wise strategic decision to focus on a very small selection of well-prepared dishes. However, the next time I'm dropping into Safeway or the UPS Store next door, I won't hesitate to order a couple of noodle dishes from Dear Mom to go. It's an excellent addition to our restaurants in this area! read more

I ordered the chicken satay and it was horrible. My husband said it wasn't cooked enough so I hope we don't get sick. The owner came over saw that we didn't eat it and asked what we thought. I said "it wasn't good. We couldn't eat it." She said "oh" then took our dishes and walked off. The chicken wing appetizer was weird too. There was barely any meat under the skin. We didn't bother finishing this dish either. Shrimp Pad Thai was meh, and another crispy chicken dish with vegetables and an egg on top was good but wasn't anything that would bring me back. Would have been nice had they removed the chicken satay from the bill considering it wasn't edible. Then when it came time to check out, the minimum tip was 20% lol, then 25%, then 30% bahahaha! My taste buds were so satisfied, I ordered the same dish the next day: yellow curry with fried chicken. Although I got takeout, the restaurant looks clean and has a casual, comfortable atmosphere. In person takeout orders are easily placed using a kiosk (like at Crumbl), and there is a nice waiting area with seating. The yellow curry is slightly spicy and slightly sweet. Roasted vegetables are a brilliant addition. After reading a raving Door Dash review, I opted for the fried chicken as my protein. The breading is on the lighter side and perfectly crunchy. I got 2.5 meals out of each dish. This is now my favorite Thai food restaurant in Bend. I will absolutely be going back! read more

We ate dinner right around 5:15PM when they opened. Service was absolutely incredible. The drinks were fun and delicious. Mother in law had the "Pretty in pink", wife had the Thai tea and I had the Thai tea lemonade. Food, 5 stars. We all shared our entrees consisting of "Grandmas Pad Thai" with Mom's Fried Chicken added to the top, Thai Fried Rice, also with Mom's Fried Chicken added, and finally the Curry Noodle. Perfect amount of spice, explosion of flavors, and very instagram worthy presentation. Ended our meal with the crème brûlée cheesecake and chocolate molten lava cake for desert. We ordered Spicy Basil Noodles, Pad Thai w/ Fried Chicken, Midnight Chicken Wings and Roti w/ curry. We ordered to-go and we ate it soon after picking up. The Spicy Basil Noodles with veggies had the weirdest soap taste and the combination of vegetables like brussel sprouts and something that looked like grape seaweed left a bitter taste. The Pad Thai didn't have much flavor and the fried chicken was more of a fried cutlet. It was dry but not terrible. The roti was too greasy and too flaky. The oil took over the flavor and the curry was too watery to enjoy. Chicken wings were tasty but I thought the portion was too small. Pickled veggies were a nice way to add acidity. The curry was water, the pad see ew has a flavor I've never had before - from Bangkok to dive Thai (some of the best). Worst off is that it's offers are absivve to a consumer. 2 small satay skewers for $9. Really? $9. If we ate in I'm sure they would of said it was a mistake because no one - no consumer would feel that that price could be correct for the offer. In all, utterly disappointed. After showing some friends around Bend, we decided we wanted a break from food trucks and that we should try a new sit down restaurant. My wife (who's always right) suggested Dear Mom (which was quite possibly the furthest possible restaurant from where we were) so naturally this is where we ended up. Immediately upon walking through the front door we knew we were in the right place. Authentic in every way, vibrant, warm and welcoming. We found a nice table facing the pines and were given a run down of the restaurant's back story and what to expect from the menu. We ordered the Midnight Wings, Mom's Salad, Drunken Noods, and Khao Soi. Each dish full of flavor and drawing you in for another bite. My only regret was not ordering the entire menu. I plan to become a regular here and make this restaurant an extension of my personality. If you're ever trying to decide what to eat, just stop, do what's right. Go to Dear Mom and say hi to the 6'7" ginger sitting at the bar that looks perfectly out of place. read more

'Dear Mom Cafe' is not quite a fully realized restaurant. The space has real potential and a few food items are flavorful however the service, presentation and consistency are lacking. I have dined at the Cafe twice now. Here is my experience: The Good: Crispy Thai Basil, Pad Thai are both 8/10 dishes with flavor. The design of the space is fun, open, thoughtful, creative. The Mediocre: Curry noodles: sauce was thin and watered down. Crispy wontons no longer crispy after being drowned in the broth. Nobody wants mushy won tons. "slow braised chicken" was hard, rubbery and flavorless. Tasted like someone pulled a wing off a dried out chicken and tossed it into the broth. The Bad: Service felt passive-aggressive on both occasions. They are not willing to sub items, hear feedback, and they promote more of a "don't like then leave" vibe. I have not personally ever seen a Thai restaurant not offer chicken with a Pad Thai, however this place states, "There is no Chicken Pad Thai in Thailand, so we do not offer chicken" Okay, I guess that's the end of that conversation. Footnote: Its been two months now and they still have the sign of an old Mexican takeout restaurant which is odd. read more

Well its sad because we were *really* hoping this place was going to blow us away! The good and bad: The pad thai with shrimp - nice large shrimp - 5 of them I believe were good. The bad: The flavor of the pad thai lacked the zing of good flavor I'm used to getting with Pad Thai at other places here in town. I give it 2 1/2 stars. Hubby got the old fashioned fried rice. He said it was unedible. Looked like barely seasoned white rice. He ordered it with the "roasted vegetables". He got 1 floret of cauliflower, a couple green onions, tomato pieces. They charge 4 dollars extra for the "roasted vegetables" - really??! Tip: DO NOT ORDER via Door Dash as they have NOT got their process down (transferring orders from Doordash to their own system I think) and seem confused putting the orders together and the WAIT is TERRIBLE! Tough space to fill. Businesses barely last in this spot but this restaurant is delicious and the decor is cute! Here is the scoop- Pros: Pad Thai and holy Basil noodles were delicious! Very authentic and cooked perfectly. Overall the service was lovely And the decor was so different , eccentric and vibrant Downsides: +$5 for chicken seemed a bit steep. Ordered a beer for $6 and was only given a half pint... rip off Your flamingo straw usage in your cocktails make your drinks seem frilly and cheap. I would get rid of half of your tables. Not enough people were eating in the restaurant on a Friday night for the amount of tables you have and it made the place seem empty. Eliminate some and create an illusion of exclusivity!
