Indulge me for a sec. Death & Co. means a lot to me. When I moved to Denver last summer, this was one of my first stops. I walked over to the bar and just stared in silence. The leather barstools, the natural lighting, the crystal clean mirrors, the deep selection of spirits, etc. Was it all a dream? In my opinion, there should be some type of prerequisite reading materials before setting foot inside Death & Co. They LITERALLY rewrote the modernized book on cocktails and how to run a successful cocktail bar. It's my coffee table book of choice, one I reference every other day. On top of that, many modern classic cocktails stemmed from the original bar in the East Village. The all-star cast of bartenders who opened D&C on New Year's Eve back around 2006 or 2007 have gone on to become icons of the bar industry reaching a legendary status. Death and Co. is one of the main reasons why the cocktail renaissance of the early 2000s began, and why bars and cocktails are where they are today. All of that to say how fantastic their Denver outpost is. Sitting pretty inside the Ramble Hotel, offering a D&C am menu with breakfast offerings and a coffee program, while implementing table service in a luxury manner, yet not as pretentious as one might think. When you have a wait staff that pours you a glass of water upon arrival, you know they've been trained to an entirely new level of hospitality. The cocktail menu changes seasonally, and their uniqueness of ingredients is unmatched in the cocktail world. Mixing base spirits unlike any other bar in the country to create balance and boundary-pushing concoctions. It's a dynamite experience. First time here and it did not disappoint! They have a very extensive menu so I can't imagine anyone having a hard time finding something to drink. I am not the biggest fan of very spirit forward drinks and the disco tiger was exactly what I wanted! Very refreshing and perfect for a hot summer night! My partner usually enjoys a good old fashioned but when at fun cocktail places, egg white drinks are his go to. He enjoyed the jewel runner quite a bit but didn't love his second drink (the electric city - not pictured). This stop was just one part of our date night plans so we refrained from ordering multiple dishes to eat but the trout was pretty good. Not sure I would order it again given that there's a whole menu of other things I'd want to try. The wait was about an hour for Saturday at around 7pm, but we didn't feel it was too bad as we just grabbed a beer elsewhere while waiting. I've never really had an issue with parking here, but I know it can get pretty crowded during this time of day. The inside was very aesthetically pleasing and felt clean, however, it was louder than I'd prefer. The costs of the drinks were also steep but it was worth it and pretty comparable to other similar spots around the area. We have been wanting to try Death & Co since they came to do a demo at our favorite bar in Tulsa - Valkyrie - a few months ago. The bar is located inside the Ramble hotel which has a great atmosphere whether you just want to spend some time doing some work at a booth or hang out with friends. There is a small coffee bar that serves cocktails as well as coffee early during the day and after 2:30 pm the main bar is open with their full selection of cocktails. The drinks from both the coffee bar and the main bar were great! This place gets very crowded in the afternoon/early evening so come early to snatch a spot. It was packed on a Monday afternoon when we were there! Therefore it took a little time to get our cocktails in between each orders but otherwise everything was great. He warned me that it might be a strange taste to have the aloe vera, but I grew up on the Asian aloe vera drinks, so that was fine. We got here around 8PM on a Sunday, and it was just a few minutes wait to get a table for 2. I tried my friend's Saddle Tramp, which tasted like 'just' a high-end margarita. The seating was extremely comfortable and the music was just a little louder than I would prefer, but not blasting by any means. But service at the bar was solid, and I enjoyed a couple of solid whiskey based cocktails including the Hungry Ghost - Sunday's Whisky, Laird's Bonded Apple Brandy, Bruichladdich Port Charlotte, génépy, honey, orange bitters, and absinthe. I could never make this at home! I also appreciated that they had Sunday's whisky and enjoyed a perfect high ball. My second visit was right at opening and I loved the peaceful vibe and sunlight. I had two fantastic gin based drinks but with genever - a martini with Japanese sake vermouth and a tuxedo no. 2. Both were fantastic and loved the creativity behind the bar. I am visiting from out of town and was told to visit death & co. It's first come first serve, we went on a Sunday evening. I am staying at a hotel about 18min Uber ride away. The weather was a little chilly and rainy so I was hoping to get in a get seated quickly. Spent money on an Uber to get to the restaurant and found out the wait time was ridiculous. The wait was over an hour! the hostess made it seem like it was only a 20 minute wait. So we agreed to wait around since the hype of this place was worth the wait. They have a system where they will text you when your table is ready. There is bar seating, tables, and couches. The interior was absolutely beautiful. The staff came off a little cold and straight to the point. I Didn't feel very welcomed but also they seemed short staffed. There is a Mexican restaurant across the street we got a drink from while we waited. We almost gave up after the hour wait and even ordered food from the Mexican place thinking death and co forgot about us on the wait list. As soon as we were about to give up and Uber back to our hotel across town I got a text after 75 min saying our table was ready. We got a cute spot on one of the couches. Waitress was awful, she took forever to take our order. Simply to get us water took 10-15 min. Then again with the food and drinks. It was SO SLOW!!!!! The drinks and food were pretty darn tasty.! But with the bad staffing management and unfriendly staff with the 75 min wait made this place not worth it. Really disappointed in the experience here. Love this place! Stopped in for a couple snacks and cocktails with my sisters from out of town before we went to dinner. Nathan was amazing!! Super knowledgeable and really friendly. Very attentive. The cocktail menu is huuuuge, and I'm insanely indecisive, so I ordered off-menu and had the most perfect Makers 46 mint julep ever. This place is legit - they served it in the correct vessel and their choice of ice is on point! My sisters each ordered cocktails from the menu (one of them had a delicious non-alcoholic option) and everything was great. The menu is gorgeous, by the way - a full-color bound book. It's perfect for drinks and bites with the girls, or even a date with someone special. I came with my best friend and had an amazing time at the bar. Shout out to John the bartender for the great cocktail recommendation! All of the waitstaff and personnel were very friendly and accommodated us throughout the night. We tried the fries and fried pierogis with caviar. Excellent! And that's coming from two Polish women. :) Also, the decor and ambience is really special. It's dimly lit, elegant and sophisticated. I can't pin point the decade it's from, but everything is really thoughtful throughout in terms of decor and even menu design. I HIGHLY recommend checking out this place next time you're in Denver. They get pretty packed here but the bartenders are pretty efficient so the wait for a drink isn't too bad. Mitchell, our bartender was fantastic!
