The hotel is beautiful and has such a cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere. The staff is always knowledgeable and professional regarding the drink menu and we got great advice on new drinks. The food menu is definitely small and we got the cheese board that was definitely overpriced for the amount that was on it. I absolutely love this place! Just learned there is one in NYC too. This is located within The Ramble Hotel. I found out about Death & Co through a blog that said this is one of the most instagrammable places in Denver. When I visited during the day, there were plenty of free meter parking around the hotel. If you're unable to find a meter, they also have valet parking at the hotel. If I was a local, I'd be here all the time. Walking in, the valet opened the entrance door as he saw us approaching the sidewalk. We were quite stunned to see such a beautiful lobby and bar. Also looks like they serve light bites as a hostess asked us if we would like to be seated. We got a booth and ordered some drinks (about $17 per drink). We had a mishap where only one out of two drinks ordered came. We had to ask about the second drink when it didn't show. The waitress came back with it and said she was so sorry it took longer than normal and that she would take it off the check. It was very hospitable! The drinks were delicious. We took some pictures and went upstairs. They have an outdoor open deck and bar upstairs. They have areas to lounge. It was really comfortable. A different scene from the upscale bar we just came from downstairs. I would add this to one of the more memorable moments of Denver for me. read more

Coffee shop only review. Yes. You can order cocktails there too! First stop on the Denver tour de force, naturally we had to check out the Death & Co outpost. It's set inside the Bramble Hotel, which has a spacious and well appointed lobby offering several different seating options and lots of natural light. We stepped up to the counter and, though we wanted a cocktail, ended up ordering an espresso tonic. They use a high quality tonic water and a bright and fruity espresso, making for a deliciously refreshing and caffeinating beverage. Best of all they use cold draft ice cubes for insane temperature drops and the staff is super friendly! All in all, this is a fantastic spot to spend some time and get some work done! read more

I am so sad to say I was disappointed by D&C. I have been looking forward to going for so long (knowing it's one of the top places in NY). However, it was just not what I expected. Our service was bad and because of that our drinks (our first ones - the second one was good) were not good. We asked for help deciding what to get and out waitress literally said "depends on what you like" and proceeded with zero help. Obviously it depends but can you please help me pick? She didn't. We ordered incorrectly and none of us liked our drink. Another server came and she was super nice and helpful. She listened to what we each liked and replaced our drinks with good ones. I got a mezcal drink off the menu, it was pretty good but I've had way better. -The watermelon tacos were the best part -Really enjoyed the crackers (but we asked for extra sauce and they charged us...really?) The place is beautiful with amazing decorations. Their cocktail book is wow, I'd take it with me if I could... Visiting Denver with a good friend. I've been to Death & Co. in NYC several times and thought this would be a fun place to start the evening. We walked in at around 8:00 Saturday night. Not overly crowded at all, with several open seats at the bar. We started towards the bar and were run down by some guy that was evidently in charge of seating and informed us there were "9 other parties waiting to sit at the bar". Hmm. We said we didn't necessarily need to sit and just wanted to have a few drinks. Nothing doing. I suppose, unlike just about every other bar in America, they do not allow standing at the bar, even though there is plenty of room. We then noticed several empty tables and asked if those were available. Sure, he said, give me your cell phone number, I'll text you, but it will be at least 45 minutes or more. We're both in our 40's, mature, well off and nicely dressed. Not slobs or unaware of how to dress properly. We then asked him one simple question..."In order to have a drink there we would need to give him our phone number and wait at least 45 minutes for a text"? Yes, he replied. He then said "I usually send people across the street to Cart-Driver to wait". Come again? Again, there was no line and the place was not crowded at all, it was only 8:00. We have no problem getting into any number of "hip" bars in Denver, but I suppose Death & Co. is just too hip for us. We had drinks next door where they warmly invited us in to the bar. Very good drinks. While there we noticed that the "in charge of seating" guy at Death & Co. was outside chatting up a number of females and then letting them in. Needless to say we won't be back or recommending this place. Too many other, significantly more accommodating and friendly, places to choose from. read more

So Loud Everywhere The hostess could barely hear us. All we wanted was a cocktail before we went to dinner. We sat upstairs and could not even have a conversation and ended up on our phones instead of discussing business. Which is why we were in Denver. However we had heard great things and wanted to try but overall just not impressed. The atmosphere (minus the noise) was really grand. Service was really slow ... maybe because they only had one server. But the space is so small I can see why there can only be one. I ordered a crostini appetizer when drinks were ordered and we were almost done with our martinis before it came out. By FAR my favorite place! Not only is it beautiful but the very best drinks I've ever had, not even exaggerating a little bit! Emi and Sari at the front door was so sweet and helped us get our reservation! Walking in and being greeted by Sierra was very welcoming! So far they all gave us their BEST first impression! This place is so wonderful! I was really missing the craft cocktails in NYC, and had been to the East Village Death and Co location too many times to count. I was worried that the Death and Co here in Denver may just not be up to par, but I took a chance - and I am SO glad I did. This place has the best craft cocktails in Denver, hands down. This place is definitely one of the best cocktail bars in Denver. Our server, Garrett, was very knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. I had the Bayonet first, while my lady had the Hungry Ghost. These are both phenomenal drinks. The Bayonet is very robust, with Hine Cognac, Roger Groult Calvados (brandy), Apricot Eau de Vie, Cynar, and sweet vermouth tied together nicely. I found the Cynar to be most pronounced, which I actually appreciated. The Hungry Ghost was probably the drink I would normally go for, so I was glad when my girlfriend ordered this. Equally as complex as the Bayonet, it consists of Sunday's Whisky, Laird's Bonded Apple Brandy, Bruichladdich Port Charlotte, génépy, honey, orange bitters, and absinthe. This drink is earthy and smokey at first, with a more herbaceous, absinthe finish. I wasn't planning on getting another drink when I walked in, but I decided upon a Pleasant Talk, and my girlfriend went off-menu with a drink called Coffee and Cigarettes. The Pleasant Talk comes with Ransom Old Tom Gin, Bols Barrel Aged Genever, Clairin Vaval, amaretto, lemon oil, and popcorn. This drink is more simple than my first round, with a base profile of herbs and a buttery finish. The Coffee and Cigarettes cocktail consists of coffee liqueur, scotch, vermouth, and bitters and is sure to put hair on your chest. I will definitely be back. read more

I'm one of those people who get to say "I went to the original one in NYC before checking out this location". The only things that are similar about Denver and New York is that they both excel at cocktails. I had two drinks here and they were both excellent. I don't recall their names but they were derivatives of classics a la Old Fashioned and/or Negroni. Where NYC is a dark, smaller, crowded room, Denver is a hotel lobby. So, naturally, I'd love to stay at the hotel someday. The service is very good although it can be busy. Here with with a party of 7. Had some decent apps - popcorn ($8 for a bowl), mushrooms, buttermilk chicken. Friends had burgers and fries, which they liked. But, the mashed potatoes were literally tasteless. Two people had to send back their orders of baked cavatapi because they were too spicy to eat; and there was no mention of spicy on the menu. No substitutions allowed on mixed drinks or their wedge salads. Our server was friendly, but someone had to go get her to place our order. The place is really loud and they were out of NY Strip, which several of us would have ordered. They are transitioning to a summer menu and not restocking items that they call out of season. This year for Denver Restaurant Week we were invited by a couple of friends who wanted to check out Death and Co.  The Denver location is housed in the lobby of The Ramble Hotel in RiNo.  Denver accompanies L.A. as sister bar locations outside of the award-winning flagship in N.Y. Cocktails or death! They are serious about their cocktails, and it tastes that way! Each cocktail offering features unique ingredients and combinations unlike any other cocktail bar, and they are priced accordingly (up to $33 per cocktail). The food was also delicious!  The $45 prix fixe menu during Denver Restaurant week included a gem lettuce salad, bison short ribs with potato gratin, followed by a chocolate mousse tart.  Vegan options were also available, as well as other entrees and appetizers from their traditional dinner menu. The dining area is in the lobby of the hotel, which also serves breakfast and lunch daily. Upstairs there are two other options,  the 6A Suite (a more intimate setting Thursday through Saturday evenings), and The Garden which plans to open later this Spring with a roof top balcony.  Valet parking is available. read more

First time at Death & Co, we came in early on a Friday and had to wait about an hour for a table for 4. Luckily their is so many other bars nearby to wait for your text. The experience was honestly was worth it, we were seated on the couches in front of the lobby. The waitress explained the menu which was extremely helpful and had recommendations for any drink, we asked about something similar to an espresso martini and she recommended the Wizard in Black. The whisky drink while strong had a nice aftertaste of coffee, their was 6 pages of cocktails though so a lot to go through especially on my first visit. Awesome evening. My wife and I decided to have a night out. That's rare. We chose Death and Co. Due to its popularity and many reviews. Upon arrival, we were discouraged due to the 5 small groups standing in line, not the case. We were quickly greeted by the host , who was very pleasant and greeted us with a smile. We were immediately seated at the bar, and with such short notice, we were glad to sit anywhere. Trevor and Matt are very talented mixologists. They truly made our night out something special. We had our drinks made to our taste. We were also given a parting gift that was an awesome surprise. The food was quickly served with a very polite interaction, and the taste was amazing. Yes, the drinks are pretty good. Yes, that quality of ingredients is pretty good. Yes, the service industry needs to pay its workers fairly. I still think this place is slightly overpriced and overhyped. The ambiance is nice, and if you can afford to spend $100 for three cocktails + some bread a butter good on you! It's not a place I see myself going again unless someone bestows a large sum of money on me and I'm feeling frisky enough to drink $20 cocktails. We don't get many nights out and we heard so much about this place. It was full inside but the hostess told us the drinks are canned each morning and they are the same as what you'd get inside. It was a nice night out so we figured why not? All I have to say is if the canned drinks truly represent what this place is about then it's a failure in my book. The guy recommended the paloma and mai tai. We couldn't even get through 1/3 of the mai tai. It was awful. We managed with the paloma but after living in Mexico I can tell you this was one of the worst I've had. On top of that they were $14 a piece for liquid we could hardly stomach. read more

It is the ground floor of the ultra-chic Ramble Hotel, giving it an air of bygone days that have been updated for this century. Death & Co has several secret places to explore - including a patio at the center of the second floor, and a back bar that can host private parties or open up to more space when the bar is throwing a big event. There really isn't a way to go wrong when you order - every cocktail I've ever had here has been superb - all of them having the right balance of booze and other flavors. And if there isn't a cocktail that strikes your fancy, you can tell your server what flavor profile you like, and the bartenders can whip up something special. Pro tip: the bartenders also know (supposedly) all of the old recipes from Death & Co's NYC location, so there is a constant "secret menu" that you can order off of - if you remember the name of those cocktails, that is. I have yet to try the food that they serve, but every time I've seen something pass by my table it has looked great. I recommend a trip here for a before dinner cocktail, and then heading to Super Mega Bien or to Cart Driver for your meal. read more

My friends and I visited with a small group. We ordered several drinks and meals. Unfortunately, one person in our party left his card behind. When he returned to retrieve it, the bartender made a disparaging remark implying he was homeless, saying "we don't serve people off the streets". This was offensive and unwarranted, especially after we had spent generously at the establishment. The waitstaff displayed rude and elitist behavior throughout our visit. Hmm, well, are you turning away 8 people x 4 cocktails at $25 per cocktail? That's $800 in revenue. No, sir, some things are more important says the 22 year old hostess with no ownership stake. If you've been to the original in NYC, and if you're looking for that same vibe, head upstairs (only open Thurs, Fri, & Sat). It's dark and cozy up there, whereas the main room, with its towering ceilings and crystal chandeliers, is more coldly elegant than cozy. We came twice while we were in Denver, after a perfectly fine experience downstairs that simply was missing that "it" factor that we've experienced at Death&Co NYC. The experience upstairs was perfection. Drinks we tried: - As I Lay Dying: Botanist, Laphroaig, dry vermouth, blanc vermouth, genepy (the *highlight* of both visits) - Spice Melange: a scotch neat drink with apricot brandy, amaro, macadamia, and absinthe (SO good...like Christmas in a glass) - Stoplight Kisses: tequila, navy strength gin, pear brandy, Kombu, and celery bitters (really nice!) - Continental Clean: tequila, Forthave red, blanc vermouth, vanilla, caraway, and orange bitters (loved it!) - Spaghetti Western: basically a mezcal old fashioned...fine but nothing new - Grand Street: a Manhattan riff with cynar and punt e mes and cherry (nice but not one I'd order again) - Adonis: equal parts sherry and vermouth (really interesting!) - Desert Bloom: equal parts mezcal and raicilla with pear brandy and vermouth (an interesting martini) - Disco Tiger: vodka melon (Aelred) with other stuff (bartender described it as his "guilty pleasure," and it definitely hits the spot if you want something slightly on the sweeter side but still interesting and refreshing) - Spyglass: a fennel liquor martini (my boyfriend loved it; I hate fennel) - Wizard in Black: an amaro old fashioned with cold brew coffee (really nice) - Sharpie Mustache: a drink from Amor y Amargo in NYC (loved it; now I need to try Amor y Amargo!) Oh god, no wonder I was so drunk. (Ok, but keep in mind that those 12 drinks were for two people ordering across two nights....so that's 3 drinks per person per night. This is how you do the 12-step method, right?) IMPORTANT TIP for anyone considering the Theater of the Mind experience at the upstairs room: Our bartender gave us a sample of the Adonis with an olive floating in it that had undergone some crazy procedure (I'm blanking on what exactly it was). The olive instantly exploded into liquid in your mouth the minute you tried to chew it. REALLY cool! So, I bet the rest of the Theater of the Mind experience is also pretty cool. This apparently is a limited-time deal. FOOD TIPS: - DO NOT MISS the bread and butter. The bread is like...deep-fried...omg it's insanely decadent. - The baked cavatappi is really nice. - The chocolate chip cookies ("drunken cookies") are also amazing. They're cooked with banana liquor, which isn't overwhelming at all but adds the most amazing note. It's my new goal to figure out this recipe at home. Not sure if they take reservations, but for us it was first come, first served, so prepare to wait. Our wait was longer than anticipated, and even longer than quoted (30 minutes), but it was so good we had a drink and came back after dinner to finish out the evening. During our first visit in, we sat at a table in the bar. Our server was good, but left a bit to be desired. My first drink reflected the experience. The second time around was far better. We sat at the bar (no wait), and had a great experience chatting with one of the bartenders. I love learning about their stories and experiences, and even those sitting around us joined in on some conversations. I let the bartender make me something from a menu they offered years back. My man tried their manhattan and split-base Sazerac and was really impressed. Drinks aside, the ambiance of this place is chic, mysterious, and regal. A perfect date spot. These are mixology experts and to experience this iconic place is a luxury I hope you all take advantage of! A step back in time, but in a modern way. The lobby of a hotel is genius and the decor is luxurious with a beautiful bar, exquisite seating and decadent lighting. Ok now to the cocktails - there is a book of crafted cocktails which the staff will guide you through each page. There were $30 cocktails, but we stuck with the less pricey creative cocktails.
