Great casual place for family. Food and service are terrific and reasonably priced! Love it!

I am originally from New Orleans and a bit of a seafood / Cajun food snob. I had been here once before for a quick beverage so didn't really get to enjoy the food. This time I decided to go all in. I started with the lemon pepper chicken wings which I really enjoyed. Then came the Crawfish Étouffée. Loved it. It was packed with crawfish and a really unique and a very tasty roux. deckhand has become one of our favorite places...in the top 3. we're trying different things from the menu every time we go and so far everything has been sooo good! we've been when it's crowded and when it's not and we always seem to receive very good service. prices are about the same as other restaurants so no complaints there either. great food that i don't have to cook (i can't cook as well as they do) and i don't have to clean up either. read more

I just noticed this place today for the first time. It was a colorful place that said seafood so I thought I would try it. I got the fish and 3 shrimp plate. The food was so good and seasoned very well. Even the fries was seasoned. I loved it. The people where very nice. Strangers all talked together at the bar. The restaurant didn't have that chain restaurant feel. I will definitely be going back! You should try it. So many choices on the menu. read more

This place always has the best food. I visit here very frequently. I have had almost everything on the menu. Gumbo is a must as well as the Tom Yum soup and Crying Tiger. Very fun atmosphere. Very cool people. Friendly staff. Food is always fresh. Sometimes i can even pick out the fish i want before they prepare it. Fridays get very busy so try to get there early. read more

Amazing Oysters big and fresh. 6 for 6.95. I also tried the fried clams which were good. My only complaint - they should warn you the beer isn't a PINT but rather a 12oz mug. Thats not such a big issue since I'm not a drinker but I can see how that would miff someone who's there to drink. Nice place and the cook came by to see how I liked it all... I told him fantastic. Seriously if you want oysters (and they have a lot of other cool things like baked oysters, scallops with bacon, etc) this is the place. read more

HUGE OYSTERS!!!! I live in Dallas TX , I usually go to Aw Shucks, Dodie's , Seafood Shack , Pappadeaux, and Shuck n Jive .. Which are good places, but I've been disappointed in the size of the oysters. Deckhand had oysters on steroids! They also have HOT HOT HOT sauce that you can't buy any where. I also had the stuffed flounder, it was Awesome! I would rather eat that on thanksgiving day than stuff turkey..LOL! The owners are from Lao's, so their spice's add a twist to the flavor! So if you're use to plain jane food with no flavor you may not like. But if you want your taste buds to explode or go in to shock! You'll love this place! Definitely going to make a trip back when I get another day off! read more

After hearing glowing reviews of this restaurant my husband and I decided to eat here for dinner recently. First of all, I was not impressed by the atmosphere but figured if the seafood is as good as we'd been told, who cares. My husband ordered 1/2 dozen oysters and the broiled flounder plate and I ordered the broiled snapper. The oysters came out first and my husband was very pleased. They were fresh and not gritty. Next came the entrees. The server asked who ordered the snapper (me) and served my husband his flounder. After she walked away I looked at both of our plates and both fish looked exactly the same. The flounder was defintely a flounder and my "snapper" was definitely not a snapper. That explains why the "snapper" was so inexpensive. Our vegetables were anemic looking cooked broccoli and raw baby carrots. I've never gone to a restaurant that served raw carrots as a vegetable side. Seriously? The rice on our plate was still in the shape of the measuring cup they used to get it out of the pot. My husband is embarassed to tell the people who highly recommended Deckhand what our experience was like because he doesn't want to make them feel bad. Ate here last Friday. It was pretty busy, and a Friday, so we came with patience. The hostess told us it would be about a 35 min wait, but it was more like 15. That was nice. When we sat however, we sat there at LEAST 15 minutes and no waitress to take our drink order. I FINALLY flagged one down. She brought the fountain drinks fairly quickly for the kids, however it took another 10 - 15 min for our beers to come. We ordered bottles.. Not sure how long it takes to take the top off a beer and leave it on the counter for the waitress to pickup and bring normally, but this seemed very long. The waitress kept saying the bar was very backed up. I saw the table next to me get their beers fairly quickly with their waiter. They ordered after we did and the waiter brought them about 2-5 min later. The food was very good. We ordered oysters on the half, they gave me an additional one since one was about the size of a half dollar so that was nice. The catfish was very tender and cooked well. So for this, I'm giving it 4 stars. The waiting .. 2-3 stars. read more

I though I found a gem for Oyster Bar in Round Rock. I went there on Thursday Oct 20,2016 by mistake of getting lost. I have seen the review previous on yelp and was interested in trying this place at least once. Well the atmosphere is like local pub that with diverse people and a hint of friendly. My service was okay, I had to keep ask for help to place my to go order. The food was okay and the price for 10 fried oyster with coleslaw was a outlandish $15.14 and I gave a tip of a 1.00 for a take out order. Now here is where the plot thickens.. I just so happen to check my bank account with DECKHAND OYSTER BAR- ROUND ROCK AND SOME ONE ALTERED MY TIP FROM 1.00 TO 4.00 WITHOUT MY PERMISSION!!. NOW FOR A FRIST TIME CUSTOMER THIS IS BAD!!! I have called numerous of times to get this rectified with the manager in Round Rock nothing but answer service. I going to press charges against business for FRAUD and have the employee fired!!! I even will to take Deckhand to court because if you did this to a new customer image how many other customer this establishment has Fraud in alter a customer TIPs to gain extra money for their business. IT wrong and I will not stand for it!!! read more

Came here for Mothers Day since I was in the mood for something new. I was very disappointed with the whole experience. The service was very slow, and by slow I mean it took about 15-20 minutes just to get our drinks. Then when the food eventually came out - it was not good. The only decent thing was the shrimp and fries that my five year old ate and my angry orchard beer. I ordered the steamed fish which is a soup - that was scorching hot. The taste was not very good but I was so hungry that I ate what I could after pouring out the ice from my ice water onto the soup so I could actually eat it. My husband ordered the drunken sailor which was a bit spicy. We had the deckhand oysters as an appetizer and they were too salty, I had to ask for lemon to try to tone down the saltiness. We were overall very disappointed as this place is rated 4 stars. The bathrooms were also very dirty. I would not come here again. read more

last friday me & my family were in there ...had the worst service, she was a tall asian i think her name was Darla... if you go into to eat -- make sure to get a new server ..the food was amazing but she ruined our entire experience, might not be going back --- if we do we will definitely sit in someones section who smiles & appreciates our business.....the other servers looked happy to be there but unfortunately not ours read more

Worst experience we have had here...The bar is usually busy on weekends and also, the dining area, but rarely much of a wait. This past weekend we visited again and found the dining room with only a few tables used as it was a little early. My friend got there first and was placed behind a table with a large party of all ages. The noise level made it unable to have a conversation so we relocated. No big deal, but poor positioning by the staff. Waiter seemed very new. Note to management - not such a horrible thing if your order is actually written down before leaving the table? I wanted to try the pork dish listed under the heading of Soup, Salad and Sandwiches...which after a description from the waiter discovered it was none of the above, but still agreed to give it a try with an order of garlic toast and sticky rice as suggested on the menu. Others ordered an appetizer, entrees and also, side orders. My plate came out first - with no rice or garlic toast. It got cold waiting for the other food to arrive...served with a small wedge of iceberg lettuce, one slice of tomato and cucumber, sitting on a bed of shredded lettuce. I guess this is what made it a salad...but no dressing. The accompanied lime cilantro sauce is more of a chunky salsa type, not a dressing. The rest of the food finally arrived still with no side dishes, appetizer or utensils for one of us ?!? Flagged down a waitress for a fork and when our waiter finally checked on us expressed surprise that "someone" didn't deliver our appetizer or onion rings...and taking in to account how long it took them to finally arrive, they were never ordered before ? Manager behind the bar expressed her regrets with the suggestion this was due to the new location being open and offered a 20% discount of our meals. She asked if we were interested in a dessert and told her we already ordered one with our meal. She suggested a slight change in how it was presented because it was better according to her. Eventually garlic toast, appetizer and onion rings arrived in stages later. BTW - onion rings were fabulous. The toast is now cut on a diagonal of the loaf (too thick to completely warm through), not cut lengthwise as it had been on a previous visit so it wasn't suitable to try to make a sandwich out of the pork pieces. Never did get the sticky rice. Dessert arrived (which was to be shared) with inappropriate and insufficient utensils and not as the manager suggested. While we sat chatting, 3 to-go cups of tea were brought to the table. Waiter was nice, just not well trained. The bill came with comped dessert and 10% discount. My friend said her experience 2 weeks ago was similar with horrible service. Sorry Deckhands - we weren't your drinking at the bar regular customers, but now we aren't your customers at all. read more

Absolutely LOVED this place! I had driven by this place several times but was craving seafood one Saturday and decided to stop in with my family. We have been HOOKED ever since! The kids meals have generous portions, which is something many places don't have. The first time there I had the stuffed flounder...it was humongous! It was absolutely wonderful and like nothing I'd ever tasted before. There are tiny hints of Thai flavors in the spices used. The hush puppies are great, but the oysters are to die for! The owner is super friendly and is very welcoming. Some of the staff seems a little lost, but they may be newer. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because of the way they bring out the food and the catfish. The second time we were there, my daughter's food was brought out first, then my food. By the time my husband got his, I was halfway done! Also, the catfish breading is a little bland. Overall, this is a place we will be visiting at least once a week! read more

I have eaten at this restaurant twice before with a friend and had a good experience When my cousin wanted to celebrate her birthday at the restaurant ,as she had never been ,I thought it was a good choice.However I found out that the establishment is ill equipped to handle large parties. We were a party of 10 . Only one waitress took our order and was responsible for getting our drinks which went OK. 3 different type of appetizers were ordered along with some ordering gumbo and salads along with the main course. Only one guy from the kitchen was responsible for bringing out everything. The salald and gumbo came out first but no appetizers. The main course was not not brought out all at once instead it was served over a period of 30 minutes to the guests. The appetizers showed up close to when all the entrees had been served.. The last to receive her entree was the birthday girl and they messed up her order. along with another guest. The manager said she would take care of the 2 meals that were brought in error as well as credit us for the appetizers. Unfortunately, when the bill came only the 2 meals were taken off. I confronted the manager asking her about the comp for the appetizers. she previously mentioned.. She says i have already taken $50 off for the meals and will not remove anymore , though she acknowledges that she told us she would remove the appetizer portion which would have been another $16. In my opinion if I were the owner I would sit down with this manager and consider implementing a better system to handle large party orders. read more

I am actually posting this review because I am so disappointed in the staff the night that we went that I am hoping someone there will read this. I tried to find an email address to email them personally, but couldn't find one on the website. My husband and I have gone to deckhands so much because we do love the deckhand sauce, but some things are changing or there is a lack of consistency, that started a while ago. It was nothing to complain about until our last visit when we got the fried green beans and there was a piece of metal stuck in one of the beans from the fryer (I would guess). I am so glad that I was paying attention otherwise I would have eaten it. I am not an irrational person, so just wanted to let the waitress, cook and especially manager know about this (who never even came over to the table to apologize for some thing that could've been VERY serious). What frustrates me is that after the piece of metal, and the fact that I had to convince the waitress that the calamari salad I ordered didn't have calamari but shrimp in it before she took it back, still nothing was said to us or compensated on our bill. I guess working in the service industry I thought the least they could do, because i was not going to sue or make a scene there for the piece of metal, was take the beans off of the bill. I am hoping this gem is not on a downward spiral as I do like the food, but am alittle nervous to be back soon as I just want to know that the management is actively involved in what is going on in the restaurant and customer safety is at their highest priority. read more

Worst service and food I've had in a long time. My husband ordered a bowl of gumbo as an appetizer, a fried shrimp platter and garlic bread. I ordered a side salad to start and then the black mussels. The menu said they were made with garlic, mushrooms and white wine. Sounded great. After a long wait they brought my husband's shrimp. We had never gotten his gumbo or my salad. When the waitress came by he asked about his gumbo and she replied it would come out with my order - they had food runners. I'm not sure how that was an answer as in any other restaurant in the world appetizers and salads come out before the entree and why would his appetizer be served with my entree!. Someone finally brought his gumbo but still no food for me. Finally the waitress came by and said the kitchen was really backed up. I asked why a chef would send out one entree when the other clearly wasn't even started. When I asked for my salad she replied she wasn't allowed in the kitchen. What kind of answer was that! well as my husband was on the very last of his meal my mussels finally came out. They were made with cherry tomatoes, purple onions, mushrooms and what tasted like half a bottle of Kraft Italian salad dressing - not at all what was described on the menu. And more than a third of them had never opened. You never serve mussels that haven't opened. And last but not least my salad arrived as I was finishing my entree. After thrift store shopping at the Salvation Army next door, my granddaughter and I decided to try Deckhand Oyster Bar. What a great decision! It was first time for both of us so we had hoped it would be good and it exceeded our expectations. We started with fried pickle spears, hot and crispy, then we both ordered the Deckhand platter- 3 large fried shrimp, and 3 large catfish filets, fries and hushpuppies. The fries were ok, the hushpuppies had just the right amount of heat and the fish and shrimp was the best, freshest seafood I've had this side of Port Aransas. I boxed up half my meal to take home and leave room for dessert. We shared chocolate cake and it was to die for. I doubt it was made in house, but where ever they got it, they made a great choice. Not a drinker myself, but they have $2 beer specials on the weekends to watch football. So, fresh seafood, generous portions, reasonable prices. The service was great, our friendly waitress checked on us several times to refill the tea and see if we needed anything. This will be on my list of regular places to go. read more
